Katie. My daughter and I absolutely love watching your videos. I have picked up sooooo much from watching your stuff and she's beginning to copy and try to... She's only 2
She's only 2!?!?!?!?! That's amazing!!!!! I'm so happy that this channel has helped you and continues to help and make music fun. How awesome that you can share music with your little one at such a young age. That really warms my heart.
10 Helpful strumming tips 16 Days Uketobering 1 Music School Katie Excellent timing🎶🎸🎶 Strumming patterns are my biggest challenge. Counting does help keep me accountable to the beat. Like that audible shaker indicator idea too, thanks for this study session. Happy day
Ohhhh never seen a cute little finger shaker before!! Kinda adds a little percussion into the mix, too! ☺️ I also found myself bobbing my head along with you as you used it. 😁
You must have heard that I was about to lose my mind with this!! I grew up studying classical piano from kindergarten through college so music is nothing new to me but this strumming thing is and I keep struggling. SOOOO frustrated so thank you for doing these for us!!
Agreed! Best Uke teacher on This platform! I am starting to place my thumb behind my index finger for stability; kinda feels like holding a guitar pick without the pick!
Thank you for putting together this strumming course :-) I learned a lot already today looking forward to the rest of your videos thank you very much. Don 👍😇
Hi Katie, I wanted to thank you for engaging with your students and subscribers. My daughter Melanie follows and watches you all the time. She is chronically very sick. She is in respiratory failure and is in a wheelchair. There are many medical interventions she needs and I want to thank you from my heart for your faith in Jesus and for being on RU-vid for her to watch while we are doing her aggressive medical treatments. She used to play the guitar and ukelele but is unable. She still goes to guitar lessons, but she is having trouble being in her wheelchair and playing. I just wanted you to know that she really loves you and she listens to you alot and especially when you talk about Jesus. Thank you. I hope you read this. I tried contacting you through your website but was unable. God bless you, your channel and your family. Take care and God continue to be with you, Therese
Hi Therese, Thank you so much for your support and for your encouragement. It means so much :). You daughter is such a ray of sunshine. I'm sorry that I was unable to receive your message, and I don't know why it didn't go through; however, try messaging me via my email katie@onemusicschool.com, and I will look for it there. From there we can discuss more. Thank you again and have a wonderful day, Katie
Thank you! I was thumb strummer, and I wanted to learn how to chuck! It was a struggle and I never thought that I’d find a video that was helpful for me, but now I can practice with my index finger and hopefully get better!
Woohoo I can't wait to go through this entire series. This is EXACTLY what I need right now to level up my skills. Thank you, Katie!! I just signed up for your Patreon as well so excited to maximize that with you.
I still remember how hard I found it to find the matching strumming patterns. I used to send songs to a friend and ask him which strumming pattern would fit! Meanwhile it's sooo easy for me. I'm looking forward to improving my technique with your videos anyway :)
@@OneMusicSchool I am just starting, and yes stucked in strumming, so I will complete the strumming series first, then I will see chords, Is that okay, teacher ?
This is a great idea, I will definitely be watching all the videos! I would like to learn different strumming patterns rather than using the same few all the time
Brilliant videos. I'm enjoying learning a lot from you. In this video about strumming, would you say its best to grow your nails on your strumming hand?
Good question. My nails are longer on my strumming hand and my chording hand has very short nails if any. That’s just my personal preference. I hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching! I really appreciate it.
Yes it does! I don't have the play alongs for the guitar, but you could play along with me with guitar chords and they would match. The strumming patterns are still the same for guitar as well.
Hi Katie, my first comment on your channel! I have only been playing for a few months so this series will be very useful for me. Thanks very much :-) Edit: I meant to ask, what Uke do you play in this video? It looks and sounds great.
Heyy how are you? Awesome video!! I want to ask that even i strum down with index and up with thumb. And sometimes i feel that the upstrum is very loud/harsh. It would mean a lot if you answer!
Hi Katie! Thanks for the upload! Are you going to be helping us with guitar strumming too, or just ukulele? It is fine either way, I was just wondering, because I do not own a ukulele, and I do own a guitar. Thanks! -Rebekah
Hi! I'm glad that you want guitar videos. The strumming patterns and most of the concepts will be transferable to the guitar except for the practice track graphics. You can play along with me with the guitar chords, but they won't have the guitar graphics. I have more guitar planned. I promise :).
@@OneMusicSchool OK! Thank you so much! I absolutely love your videos, they are so easy to understand, and I learned your tutorial for "Reckless Love", and it was the first song I ever played on the guitar! I want to thank you for inspiring me to play :)
@@OneMusicSchool just kidding :D i really need to practice struming on my guitar and ukulele many of musician say that i hit the strings hard. :D (I have guitar for 16days and ukulele for like 3months)
Hey, hope u are fine I wanted to know that I sometime struggle while playing some chords where I have to place my index finger horizontally. Those chords are a nightmare. Can u please help me with that???
Hi :). I think you're talking about barre chords, is that right? I do have an entire course on my Patreon Page called barre chord boot camp that goes into technique, exercises, and songs to practice those barre chords. If you become a patron, there is a quicklink called "Barre Chord Boot Camp" that contains all of the handouts and video lessons. That can be found at www.patreon.com/onemusicschool. I do have a couple of free videos that I think will help get you started, and I'll link them below. Hi Katie great lesson thanks - I am trying to find an Ohana Shaker - Ohana does not sell to the public and my local uke store does not carry them - Tried on line search but to no avail - do you know who has them in stock please. Mahalo.
Thanks Katie - Chris Wu from Ohana guided me to Aloha City Ukes - ordered one woo hoo alohacityukes.com/products/ohana-rhythm-ring-percussion-shaker-fits-on-finger?_pos=4&_sid=28c360e0f&_ss=r
What I find hard is with a strum pattern where you alternate with a regular strum on one beat and then the next is to chuck. Its not too hard for me to just do chuck strums only, but then that doesn't sound so great!
