I know im late to the party and might sound mind of bias but does anyone prefer the 98-05 Lexus Gs over the 06-current style? I love the interior and features of the 06-current but i cant get with the exterior styling and body lines. The 98-05 just exterior catches my eye as well the "bubble" headlights and taillights are iconic!
The best thing about the '98-'05 GS versus the later ones is the inline 6. So many great luxury cars going back to at least early 60's had the inline 6 and for good reason. A v6 just isn't the same and likely not as smooth or sonorous. To be fair though, I haven't driven any other GS than my 2000 GS 300 which I've had since new. I do like the gens 3 and 4 body styles, but also not as much as gen 2.
The 98-05 GS is an amazing car. That’s why I have 2 of them! And they are dirt cheap these days and have more like left in them then many much newer cars.
I have 2 gs too 2001 gs430 and 2002 gs300 I really love these cars, I bought my gs300 in 2007 and my gs430 in 2015 check out my Instagram page princewilliam2jz
Gregory Freeman lol I was just talking with my brother how these GS 400/430s will go up in value and then I check my comments and saw this... it was crazy timing!
Bought my "salvage" GS 430 back in 2013 with 130k miles on it, now in 2022, at 240k it runs as well as it did when I bought it. I never changed the timing belt, runs super smooth with plenty of power. I have no desire to buy a new car, I am happy with my old GS430.
@@manohoo so in california , we would call that a rebuilt title, as you got it repaired and went to get it certified by ref or dmv (not sure) that it was repaired. you did all of this?
For the stereo system, no need to press the POWER button first, just select the source - FM, AM, CD etc and the system will power on with whichever source you selected.
Just bought my 2000 gs430 2 days ago...and must say, I had many cars in my life but this is just a class on it's own. Nevertheless, these tips are awesome. Thank you 👌
@@omieecivic269 Hi, It has been awesome and still is. I had couple of things done to it to make sure it will run well (new cambelt kit, new radiator, new brakes, new fluids). It's a powerful car but yet sensitive for any imperfections... tomorrow its having its yearly service as it likes to run on fresh oil, clean air and good quality petrol... it definitely deserves it 🙂
Man, i grew up in this car, and soon ill be able to own a car of my own, definitely looking forward to buying this beauty. The problem is Serbia has a very small amount of Lexuses ,most of which are IS 220s, and not a lot of older ones. The car i grew up in was imported from UAE.Unfortunately, right hand drive cars are forbidden here now. My chances of driving this are very small and it's killing me. You may be the only youtuber giving this car the attention it deserves.Thumbs up for that!
I may be replacing my '97 LS400 with a '98 GS400 next week, can't wait. The LS is nice but the lack of parts availability is killing me, the 2nd gen GS ran for a lot more years so I've decided it's a good candidate for replacement.
Mannnn, The vipers !!! I was like i know all of these quirks....but that viper trick...never knew..and always wondered how ppl clean their GS with them in good weather position.
I have owned my GS since 2005 and I only knew about the wiper blades, air filter and gas tank release latch. The rest is all new to me. Thanks for the content
Sensitivity for Auto Light function can be adjusted, DRL's can also be turned off, and a couple of other things that I cannot remember. The unfortunate thing for us, about pre 2007 Lexus owners, is that these things can only be adjusted through the Lexus C-BEST diagnostic/programming tools.
Hello. I have 98 gs300. And been having problems with it starting. If it dont start on first try. I have to hold the fuel Pedal to the floor of the car. After a few trys it starts. After first start of the day. Its fine. Starts ever time. Just A cold start is the problem. I have researched. And everything I fine Leads me to the fuel pressure regulator.
Thanks! I think you’re on the right track with the fuel system. I believe the 300 also has an Idle Air Control valve. So first I would scan for stored codes. Next, fuel system checks. Next, vacuum leaks. Finally spark (unlikely). Let me know what you find.
I've had two GS300's 1 1999 and 1 2000 and the reason I've had two is because it truly is the best car ever made. And for under 10k for both who could complain?
Also thank you for this vid, didnt know about the cabin filter settings, and my sunroof has been stuck for 2 years and your trick fixed it today. Hallelujah!
One from me: If you press and hold the electric steering wheel adjustment button to extend to it's maximum position and then press the button 8 times it extends an extra 0.5inch. Same applies for the wheel going up or down.
Great video! Please create more hidden features! Also, you can move the steering wheels either lower, higher, or towards you by 1st maxing our the range then 2nd pressing the button 8 more times towards the direction you want and it should move a tiny bit more. Any confusion let me know!
I did know about this one but decided to do it in an upcoming episode. One thing I don’t like about it is it seems to encourage movement beyond the limit switch. Thankfully I believe the gears are metal in there!
@@ForwardMomentum not sure if the motor for my wheel is dying or the range is just so short. I always try to extend it as far away from cluster as possible never seems close enough. Leggy guy with short torso lol! Keep up the gs videos
@@ForwardMomentum funny thing is you paid 7k almost a decade ago for yours and its still worth 5k-6k NOW even with the additional miles .... Very hard to find an inexpensive pre-owned "premium" midsize sports sedan that you can buy cheap and it doesnt really depreciate any longer. Thats how it works for a nice example of ANY car. 1st. They loose value quickly (like all cars) 2nd. That depreciation slows almost to a halt ( its possible to sell a nice example for CLOSE to what you paid(used) 3rd eventually the values will go up up (Yeah I know DUH!! right?) But take notice that this DOES NOT happen to 80% of pre-owned autos It takes a Sexy/Timeless/ design and of course a strong track record/Reliable machine ect... For this to happen. So right now is the time to go grab one if you can ...I mean if NOTHING else the inline 6 3.0L 2jz under the hood will fetch $$$ (GS300)
My '99 GS300 does close all windows by long-pressing the close button on the key, I dont think it has a panic mode. But I live in Spain so maybe EU regulations didnt call for such mode in here when it came out. I dint know the "winter mode" for the wipers, always had a bad time washing the windshield haha.
2001 gs430 here. the lexus dealership will program-out these features for free if you don't like them. i took out the sunroof because i was afraid i might accidently leave the sunroof open. not something you want to do in florida. so now only the windows go down when i hold the unlock button down. i just checked and the sunroof still tilts up if i use the key to open the windows. darn, missed that one, time to call the dealer lol. you can have them program the sunroof out, open fully, or just tilt up. i also had them program-out the moving steering wheel. i think it will make the motor last longer. just give them a call and make an appointment with the tech team. simple as that. the keyfob is designed to fit in your hand with the key pointing upward. no need to hold it up in the air and use your other hand. just don't point the key-end at the car. the key should lay in your hand. this will also make you an antenna LOL thanks a lot for the wiper trick. i didn't know that one. don't remember seeing it in the owners manual. where the other secrets are stored LOL great info for those without a manual. thanks forward
You have a nice dealer. Mine just laughs at the thought of doing anything for free for customers with vehicles this old. They have a flat fee to change up to 3 features, and the fee is typically 1hr labor.
I have the GS300 99, the only features I didn't know about was the key range extender, the wiper position and the carbon filter position. Off to try them now.
Reporting back, just tried the wiper trick, that worked and the cabin filter, unable to try the key extender at the moment but im sure that will work also. Cheers.
Great video man... learned a few things. Update to Tip 8... you don’t have to go that far in the rear to unlatch the fuel door, if look behind the panel closer to the tail light on the same side, there SHOULD be a vinyl handle that if you pull will open the fuel door. So either way works but check to see if yours is there.
You were correct sir! I didn’t see it because over the years (prior to my ownership) the lanyard pulled through and fell down in there. I will add this update to my next episode and give you a shoutout!
Ahhh appreciate your content bro I just bought my first car Lexus GS 300 I love it man mine came with a custom stereo touch Bluetooth sheesh 😍 Definitely watching your videos on tips and all that thanks btw are you in cali ? I’m by Pomona some help would be sick
So will the window remote tricks work on a '99 gs300? It's my grandma's old car and I wanna see if it works. It's completely stock, no add ons, base trim model. Can it do the trick where you put the key in the door and turn it to roll down all of the windows, or is this a modified key fob system?
The key trick comes in handy in a variety of situations. My ex girlfriend was a complete rag. When she was nearby, I could hear her constantly gripe & bellyache & our relationship just wasn’t working out. As long as I’d stayed 30 feet away, our relationship was amazing. Thank you Lexus for the best relationship advice EVER!!!
1. Key fob range boost 2. Remotely open/close windows / sunroof 3 wiper position adjustments 4 cabin air filter location 5 sunroof open/close 6. Emergency fuel release 7. AC off climate control (nav less system) 8. Carbon filter adjustment (No nav)
for key transmitter range, changing the battery worked. no I can literally unlock car from my room :v which is still close to my car but still through many obstacles
Cool video man, nice GS400, I have a '00 GS300 that recently sustained a bit of panel damage to front passenger side. I've been slowly getting paints matching parts to get it back to original condition.
The operating of windows and sunroof via key or key lock are seriously little quality of life things that I never knew I appreciated until I drove a car without them.
I agree. I love using the FOB extended range trick and opening all the windows on a hot day as I walk up to the car. My kids are like, “you think you’re so cool dad!” LOL!
I've recently got the chance to buy a 03 GS300 from FAM for once in a lifetime price,Ben my dream car my hole life I just didn't know it, I'll probably never buy a different vehicle inless I got a shot at a 03-05 GS400-430 IDK REGARDLESS IT WILL BE LEXUS GS300 IT WILL KILL ALL TIRES.......
It really depends on condition and the market you’re in (i.e California vs North Dakota). If it’s almost perfect, $6K is acceptable. Any issues at all should be removed from that asking price.
I just bought my first Lexus!! It’s a 2003 gs430 w/ nav. It’s beautiful condition! My Toyota Matrix xrs which I love actually idles where u can feel it in steering wheel even w/ crazy low miles and babying it. You can’t even tell this Lexus IS turned on when it’s running. It has 200k miles which I would never ever ever ever get close to buying a car with those miles.. but this one is so well maintained and literally every button on the car works and it has Zero mechanical problems. Leather drivers seat is wrinkled but not ripped, other seats are like new. One huge issue for me is that I can’t connect my phone to play music. I’m not about to use a stupid fm transmitter. That does not work in Vegas worth crap. Looking for a work around.
Welcome! Sounds like you scored a nice one. The FM transmitters work really well on the GS because the antenna sucks pretty bad, but I understand your concern. Crutchfield may have an option for you. Hit them up and let me know if you find anything.
In Japan the windows will all close. There is also a way to adjust the subwoofer level through the head unit I think you hold a few buttons like 1 and 6 then it shows up. You can also open mouth casual and put fob in and it gives max range. If you push in parking brake and start car then release you kill DRL.all of the points an this post work on the LS as well.
I just saw this video and want to purchase the 2010 LS460 they just don't appeal to me the 600 hL does however to much for a 2008 I think Im going to buy abother 2004 or 2005 Lexus gs 300 . I drove threw a tornado 2019 I've had this car 5years 160,000 miles.
I bought a 1998 GS 400 with 178k from an auction for $1200. I drove is across country 2500 miles will no real problems. My mechanic informed me that rats are the engine knock wire and the vacuum switch valve harness, both of which triggered the CEL. During quarantine I’ve had the following replaced: knock sensors, spark plugs, vacuum switch valve connector, starter, rear breaks, and intake manifold gasket. This week I’m going to a salvage yard to pick up a trunk lid, rear bumper, rims from a 1st gen IS 300, and a side view mirror. I hope to be driving the Lexus soon. I’m proud to be a GS owner! The car is unmatched.
I had a 2001 gs430 and i loved it a lot. My favorite Lexus from all of there models and generations. Funny thing I had those same rims on mine too. They were nice
I trade my 22 rims for one of this car the other . He thought it was oil problems something like thing like that . But when I bought it home the next day I fill up with gas and the dam thing started up like a champ lol thank god . And had no smell to it to ran flawless.man I was surprised cheers
Awesome video, I have owed 6+ of this cars and I knew about most of them but that last one surprised me! Surprised you forgot to mention the sun visors and how they move left and right as well!
When I was detailing Lexus' for a Lexus dealer in the late 90s/early 2000s we would shove the key blade into/under our chin to get more distance. They said it had something to do with the frequency running through your the bones as an antenna... Never knew the real reason why, but it worked. Nice video
Which STOCK second generation LEXUS GS (2GS) would I buy today? (300, 400 or 430?) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mi0UcB_j9mM.html LEXUS GS / Aristo Specific Check Items (in addition to a regular inspection!) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-swTfG4eMjes.html
Hey I was trying to see do u play music I just got 99 gs400 n there is no aux port and want to keep oem radio wouldn’t mind a dingy cable to click into phone
another cool little feature. there's a little black button under the dash that shuts off the audible beep when you lock and unlock the car with the key fob.
