The alligators in Runaway Mountain are still there. The Q-line does take you by them, but unfortunately they don't work anymore. I was so excited to show my family them too. I actually knew the guy that created them and most of the animatronics in the park, Grady. I worked at Six Flags over Texas in the late 90's.
Thanks for this video. I worked at SFOT from 1966-69 and transferred to open SFOMA in 1970-1972. I returned to SFOT as head of Gifts & Souvenirs in 1973. I then moved to Seven Seas as Director of Merchandise over F&B, G&S and games. When Six Flags sold it, I was transferred to The Stars HOF in Orlando for a couple of years before I left Six Flags. The hidden secrets brought back several memories from my early days with SFOT.
I remember the Runaway Mountain effects! The loud noise the mine cart made use to scare me as a little child 😂 I’ve only walked through the extra queue during Fright Fest, when it’s super crowded
This is my favorite "little" secret in the park. A few steps away from the Rodeo is a building for Judge Roy Bean. If that name sounds familiar, it's because the old woodie in the park (Judge Roy Scream) is named after the infamous hanging judge.
I've always noticed the Titan Boneyard, but never really thought anything of it. I guess I just thought they were extra parts for rides and such. I didn't realize they had stuff from decommissioned rides!
6:10 the Spindletop ride was fun but unfortunately often caused people to vomit, much to the concern of the other guests who were pinned to the wall and couldn't move.
You're right that the original Six Flags Over Texas being long gone. Today it's just an oversized amusement park loaded with roller coasters. It's nothing like the captivating theme park of the mid 60's through the 70's.
Great video. I've never been to SFOT. Six Flags Over Georgia is my home park. I did a video similar to yours a few years ago about things from old Six Flags that are still there. Over Georgia has done the easter eggs like Texas but they did leave a few things.
The alligators were still going for years up until maybe a couple of years ago. My sister and I used to run to that end and throw sticks just to make them jump out. But that part of the line was just never used. For the last couple of years, they have been off. But they still ran for a good decade. I think they may have finally broke and didn’t get fixed
Wow JB! This was awesome! I was really intrigued by the SFOT hidden secrets you provided! I loved the Angus Oil tower! I have never noticed that before! I also loved the tram ride wire around the entrance of the Runaway Mine Train and how that looks like hard thick rope. What about the past trashcan of the old rides area, do you know if that is off limits, or can visitors walk around and look at all that stuff? Again, awesome video! I will subscribe and watch more of your videos! Thanks again for creating this entertaining video!
So funny story last saturday when I was at the park I accidentally stumbled into the abandoned Casa Magnetica crooked house attraction in spain. I thought it was a queue for el asseradero (because I'm an uncultured swine) and saw that for some reason the chain was down. So I went in and found the attraction still standing SBNO.
now runaway mountain does have lights, it used to be just lights on the side, they updated the ride with led's and sound effects which is great, i actually saw the cart go off the edge the last time i went. my friend and i kept going through like 6 times they didnt even notice, but we saw the cart go off the edge, not fully, but just a bit. might just be testing it to make sure it wont start on fire or sumth
I know this is late but the waterfall is actually back running at runaway mountain, they replaced the sign, opened the large queue line back up, and I've heard rumours of the minecart being powered back on
@@JBThrills when I went labor day weekend the waterfall was red, which I am guessing is meant to be blood for fright fest. They also had some cool effects while on the ride with a statue of something scary and flashing lights.
I never knew I was touching a part of Astro lift, nice video. I love SFOT and I did a project on its history back in 6th grade and I still learned from this video.
This is my second video of yours I’ve watched and actually enjoy them. I just subscribed and looking forward to watching more. Keep it up. Good job! I actually knew all these except the one from the animatronics from the train. It’s so cool! Your doing amazing
Spendal top is basically the ufo flat rides they used to have at fairs and pop up carvales. There used to a ufo ride at the local fair in Goodland ks till like the late 2000s to mid 2010s....
If you watch back on the titan pov, when coming down from the turnaround. On the right is a large crate covered in an orange and blue tarp. Inside that crate is the train for aquaman power wave
Unfortunately...... The tamales and the 3 amigos on the donkeys have now been removed. LaSalle's River Adventure was not defunked.... Seeing the succes of Astroworld's Thunder River, Six Flags just HAD to have one, and the only place it would fit, was in the same footprint as the Riverboat AND Skull Island. The Riverboat was still a very enjoyable attraction and also very popular. I worked on the last crew of that ride in 1982. One more little tidbit..... The elevator never stopped on the 50' level of the tower.... next time you are there.... check out the north side of the tower. You will find a secondary staircase there that does not reach the ground. This staircase is how you would get to the slide (back then it DID go to the ground 😉). Nice job on the video..... but you have definitely just scratched the surface of all the hidden secrets and Easter eggs that are all around the park.
Why did the tamales and 3 amigos get removed? I heard it was for being culturally insensitive but is there like a link you can provide for the news about it? I’m trying to make a vid about it and would appreciate the help
@@JBThrills I can only imagine that was the reason for their removal. The name of the Indian Trading Post was renamed The Buffalo Trading Post about the same time. We have no clue as to what will be going in on the railroad. It is strange not seeing the tamales there.
@@JBThrills Yeah when it first opened It had four different special effects the fire tower and then the Tunnels The first one had Lights on the floor This is the only one that still works The second tunnel had lights on the ceiling They stopped working about 2 years ago And the third tunnel In the summer Used to have Water mist But that stopped about a year-and-a-half after the giant opened.
The fire effect actually recently got fixed, as we saw it was firing once every three rides. We saw it from the train going past NTG, and later that same day while riding it.
The now defunct AstroWorld (6 Flags park in Houston, TX) also used the AstroWay "haul rope" as fencing in Oriental Corner section of the park. Our "bone yard" was back stage. Another side note SF Rail Road (the locomotives are "leased" from a sugar plantation in La.) The Patterson is named after a retired SF RR engineer. It was formerly named Mirabeu B. Lamar. The 2nd Pres. of the Republic of Texas.
Yes..Charles Jefferson Patton. He worked for the T&P Railway for about 50 years before coming to The Six Flags and Texas for another 20. The red locomotive 🚂 was his favorite of the two hence the renaming of it when he retired. The original name of this loco as The Lydia where the green one was called the Mary Ann.
@@muppetsretrofan8873 Mill pond boats, rub a dub boats. No Marvel characters. Some of the rides were re-themed & moved to Enchanted Kingdom (Bugs Bunny world) Some of the signage was up 4 auction.
@@michaeltaylor1603 When Marvel and friends were going to be replaced by Bugs Bunny, did they have a farewell show, or was their last show a normal show? Also, I know that at least Beethoven Bear's statue was saved, I saw pictures of it. Did the Rub A Dub Boats get sold?
@@muppetsretrofan8873 I'm not sure If they did that. I worked there 5 seasons. The 20th anniversary (the Houston city mayor came 4 the parade. ) I was there from 85-89. I came as a guest former employee the nite b4 they closed in 2005. My last position was Sign Shop for 8 months.
@@coastervelocity3899 eh, that’s really good, but I also want a new ride of sorts, I mean they said Aquaman is delayed but they never said we wouldn’t get new rides
@@coastervelocity3899 There have been several improvements already made such as: the clock tower now chimes every quarter hour... the water wheel on The Music Mill Amphitheater is turning with lights at night. One of the first things the new pres did was make sure the railroad was back in operation for HITP last year.
It’d be cool if we got another Spindletop kinda ride but way bigger, faster and with a new theme Like Green Lantern, the chamber would look like his ring.
anouther one is Judge Roy Scream the parks only pure wooden coaster lots of young people do not know about it it is in a part of the park where you go down a tunnel it was named after a judge
Great video! Just a little bit of advice from one RU-vidr to another, at 11:45 neeeever admit you filmed your own POV, you can get in trouble for that. Just use the parks POV 🙂
Ill subscribe because this is my most favorite park in the world but also im in love with roller coasters and you look like you do that so ill hit that bell too
Did you know that the Que line for the crooked house is still visible and the house still sits not used. I don't remember where the Que line was. I think it was near the old que line for log ride
You saw the guy trying to push himself down the giant oil Derrick slide..., itmwasnt steep enough to slide down. Besides, who thought a giant METAL slide, sitting in the HOT summer sun, was a GOOD idea!?! Lmao
But, on the bright side, they are planning on reprofiling to add a turn table, which was originally left out. On top of that, they are going to enhance the theming.
@@JBThrills Ok, I haven't been, but on the "History of Six Flags Over Texas" Facebook page, there's a post from this weekend with pics of them removed and a sign in their place that says they're engineering a new railroad experience. Maybe you caught them on their last day.
If you want people to like and subscribe to you videos you need to work on your diction. The word is architecture, /ˈärkəˌtek(t)SHər/ Not what ever you are saying . Also you repeat the same words over and over again. Your music is to loud behind your voice..in fact it’s not really behind your voice, it’s competing with your voice.
Six flags over texas is great, especially for coaster enthusiasts. But it without a doubt has a intensity problem. You have to strategically ride the roller coasters or you'll have a pounding headache the whole day. I recommend riding Titan or freeze before you take a break to eat, or go on a tame flat ride. Ride the other you didn't ride in between, and go on a tame flat ride, or eat, after for a little. and most importantly, ride shockwave LAST. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. Its the most intense coaster in the USA and 2nd most intesnein the world. feel it as a gray out and really probable black out is bound. Not to mention its the best rollercoaster in the park. DO NOT make the mistake most people do and ride it first thinking it tame because of its appearance. You will struggle to enjoy anything after unless you take a very long break. Im not trying to scare you away from the beast. its an experience every one should expierence, but I warn you to ride it last.
Yeah I always strategize when I go to SFOT lol, it needs more family oriented rides, also I don’t think shockwave is that extreme, it’s really tame for me and I never black out, the most extreme coaster is Titan, shockwave is ok
It's pronounded and spelled architecture ARK-a-tecture, not ARTitrecture. I had to stop watching because I couldn't handle the way you were saying it/ using the incorrect word.
Oh, that’s so sad. I started going to Six Flags Over Texas when it opened. So many lovely, old iconic rides are gone! I loved being able to see pieces of them. Thanks for your info.
