Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

Hahahagoodstuff... he should do the same and take his own advice. This so called Rocky Mountain man is leading you down a false path. Drinking your urine is how you can survive most any situation you find yourself in. The fact that he claims it will dehydrate you tells me one of two things... either he is purposely misinforming his audience or he is been lied to and didn't do his homework. Sorry but 100% B.S. 🙏🔥🙏

@@joshuajensen5286 huckleberries can be red, but they are from a very large lowland bush. They definitely don't look that red tho. Those lowland bushes can look similar to several other berries. @@joshuajensen5286 Absolutely huge huckleberry nerd over here, they don't get that shade of red! as dren previously replied they would be a very dark and almost black purple colour at full ripeness, they are more purple/violet than red or blue in the majority of their ripening stage! the berries also do grow on small droops, but not ones nearly as long as honeysuckle as they stick much closer to the main branches of the bush, they also have red stained leaves that don't curl up or slant away like honeysuckle, they're closer to the actually soapberry leaf shown in the video. The most common lookalikes around me luckily are non-toxic and edible (blueberries and the like) but, some areas have inedible or toxic lookalikes to the huckleberry!

How true about the moss. I am from Siberia, and as a child I noticed that you can't navigate by the moss on a tree. You will simply get lost. As for all sorts of plants, mushrooms and berries, we have one rule: "if you don't know, don't take it." Every time during the mushroom season I refresh my knowledge. Although I know many more edible types of mushrooms than I collect, I don't tempt fate.

@@jpaulc441 Only taking things you agree with isn't research to begin with. Same as you don't have to have enough knowledge to be able to discern helpful from dangerous. @EricPeterson-v3l
@EricPeterson-v3l Месяц назад
Can it be a good starting point for people who DON'T know their plants and their berries though? Start testing by following what the birds and the squirrels eat. I've heard that to test a new plant in a survival situation, first rub some of the juice on the skin and wait a few hours for any ill effects. Then rub some on the lips and the tongue and wait a few hours. Then eat a nibble and wait for a day (or a few days? I forgot). Eat a small mouthful and wait for a day. Then eat everything in sight..
@TJ-rp6wu
@TJ-rp6wu Месяц назад
@@EricPeterson-v3l That seems like a good idea for testing. I heard that rubbing a berry on your lips first and wait to see if they tingle or itch. However, I can't trust that because peaches make my lips itch and those aren't poison.

Except with urine. There is a lot of misunderstanding around it. You can fast on it for several days. I've done it before, and the pee gets clearer and clearer. Very rejuvenative on a different level. The misconception here is that your pee is only salty when you eat a modern salty diet (like most modern folk). Otherwise, it is incredibly hydrating, as the water molecules are structured in a way that it moistens your cells perfectly. Old urine might make you sick. Use only fresh

I taught in our survival classes to cut the bottom 1/2 inch off your t shirt leaving the sewn part so it dosnt curl up. Shoes are important. Especially if you are traveling. Without good shoelaces your boots get loose and you get blisters or loose them in mud ect. Yountake that bottom 1/2 inch of your t shirt. Spun up folded in half and spunnagain makes a fantastic bow string. Lasts forever. Its cotton so it will stretch but once you get it stretched it dosnt stretch much after that. You were one of my favorite alone contestants. Love your channel.

Love that you just dived right into educating and selling anything else. The invitation to comment was genuine and authentic. Not scripted or forced in the slightest. The sales pitch I heard was the need to educate for survival ❤ I hope to continue to learn how to survive in the Rocky Mountains. (I live in the southern region)

30 seconds in you already had me! It takes a higher level person to not want to 'call-out' people who are wrong about things. but at the same time I can also understand the the internet comes with what it unfortunately a massive ego problem in that it won't accept being told it is wrong like a grown up and pay correct knowledge forward. I just discovered your channel mate and after that 30 seconds I knew to sub. Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge with us! All the best from the UK mate :]

Agreed, it also does show a lot of wisdom as one can be wrong at any point in time no matter how much he knows - it just takes recalling the wrong information and desaster may ensue. So encouraging to at least double check on such topics should be absolute standard which it sadly is not.

I'm really surprised anyone would think we should eat berries the birds eat! In Wisconsin, we call the poisonous berries 'bird berries' and I was wondering recently if that's where the saying "it's for the birds!" comes from to describe something bad or a bad idea! Haha! It also always amazed me they said moss only grows on the north side of a tree because all you have to do is walk in the woods to see that's bull crap. Greg saying maybe that (mossy) branch points north was hilarious! 😹😹😹 Thanks for another great video!
@OrthodoxAtheist
@OrthodoxAtheist 3 месяца назад
An easy one for me to remember in that regard is super hot chili peppers. Birds (parrots etc) can mainline those peppers because they are immune to capsaicin. You could put the best chili eater in the world against a regular parrot, and the parrot will dominate. This was an easy lesson for me that just because a bird can eat it, doesn't mean I can. :D
