I stayed in a hotel on Ibiza harbour and watched the amazing Kismet (No. 4 in this video) being docked. It took about an hour to manoeuvre it into position. It has a 60ft support boat which clears its path and accommodates some of the crew members. It was fascinating to watch a Range Rover Sport negotiating its way out of a small hatch and down a precarious looking ramp and into dock. Anyway, the reason I'm posting is that I witnessed a family disembarking the yacht and I cannot say they looked happy. Transversely, those families I saw on 35 to 65 foot boats seemed delirious - intoxicated by sunshine and the excitement and freedom of life on the sea. As spectacular as these mega-yachts are, I think they miss the point of boating - which is to have fun.
I remember Octopus well- gorgeous!! She dropped by to visit Bermuda while I was living there. My cottage was on the water right next to White's Island in Hamilton Harbour. Octopus was anchored just off White's Island and across from the Royal Bermuda Yacht club. One weekend I took my sea kayak out to paddle around Octopus. I guess I got a little close to the open integrated dock, and two jet skis piloted by ex-navy seals (Octopus security) came to have a chat. Very polite guys, but they were completely unmoved by my pleas for a tour! :) Living inside Hamilton Harbour, with my patio overlooking the water, I saw more than a few super/giga yachts anchor barely a stones throw away from me, but Octopus was completely unique- my favorite part of her is that she looks functional, like she can do something beyond just sitting at anchor in Monaco.
Lady Moura without a doubt. In every shot of Monte Carlo and the harbor there she is at her permanent berth. She is the good life personified!! I still love her unique design and find it aging extremely well. And the build is of such pedigree. I also adore Valerie. That private top deck pool is EVERYTHING!!

Ace (Little Penthouse), Barbara (Luxury Cottage), Kismet (Elegant Mansion), Luminosity (High Rise Penthouse/ Office), Amadea another (Penthouse Mansion), Octopus (Explorer yacht with all of the toys) All of them I mean they just brought their asking price down to an affordable amount. Might as well splurge a little.
I absolutely love M/Y Ace. For a lot of reasons. Owner's suite to the aft rather than forward for one thing. but the big one for me? The care given to the crew space. huge crew mess on the main deck with big windows and a balcony. second crew lounge area belowdecks. Happy crew, happy you. They work so hard to give the guests/owners the ultimate experience. They deserve a beautiful, non-cramped space to relax in.
If I had billions, I would buy both Octopus and Luminosity. Octopus for arctic adventures since it has an ice rating and Luminosity for sunny beach locations like the med, Bahamas, Maldives and Thailand. Can you imagine sitting on the deck of Octopus sipping Irish coffee while watching the aurora borealis.
Would have loved to see more of the interiors. That is more important than exterior on a yacht. To me, the "seven sins" is still my favorite yacht, though it is much snakker and cheaper than these.
@@Puzzoozoo Yes it doesn’t come cheap but it shouldn’t come at ridicolous prices either. The reason why yachts are so expensive is because they can charge that much.
The estate is probably paying $1-$2million a month in expenses just to keep her in top shape for sale. the cost of these boats is not the asking price - it's the running costs. I'll bet Octopus has an enormous running cost with fuel and crew.
Definitely the Octopus.Paul Allen got to live an incredible life and fulfill dreams that most of us cannot even imagine . It’s just too bad his money couldn’t find a cure for his cancer

It's not her age, it's her size and confirmation. She's truly an exploration yacht and a true ship. She can't dock in the harbors which generally appeal to the "yachting" community. If she docks, it's at the cruise ship berths. Even Paul Allen owned other, smaller yachts. She's a yacht for someone who already has a smaller yacht to do the chic-Med/Caribbean cruise bit with and wants to do serious ocean exploration. That market is very, very small.
i share your love of OCTOPUS But my favourite is KISMET ...... considering the cost of octopus i would buy KISMET & ACE and still have enough cash for a few cases of beer .... cheers lol
The Octopus is 17 years old! Wow! She is still a Wanderer Beauty! I'm going to purchase the Flying Fox and turn her into an asset during these Challenging Times.

I think there'd be a trail of expensive decorative objects on the sea floor behind us. And I'd eventually start throwing buckets of beige paint around. You know, just so I can go inside without having a psychotic break.

They are all good ships...for me, I like Luminosity. She has a hybrid power design and can cruise anywhere in the world. She has tasteful rooms and furnishing. I would make a few changes to suit my tastes and all would be super :)
I’d go for Luminosity, the arse end of the yacht looks a bit dated, I’d rather have a side opening extended beach club on there. I do like Illusion Plus too. Sunrays looks a bit dated on the interior. I’m a bit partial to the Turkish builders now.....

Octopus. Explorer and luxury yacht in one. Close second is Ace if I somehow couldn’t swing the Octopus asking price and had to settle for a mere luxury yacht. Very elegant lines. Third would be Kismet. It was the first super yacht I saw up close on the island of Bonaire in 2014.
My favorite is definitely Madam GU. (Not listed here, I know) Have a couple of questions: They say you should never spend more than ten percent of your net worth on a yacht. That sounds reasonable I guess. But is there a simple ballparkformula that can be used to calculate the monthly/yearly operating costs, based on the footage/ tonnage of the vessel? Or does the operating costs increase exponentially past a certain size? Obviously fuel is the big variable, depending on how often you use it.
In order of which I would purchase 1st: "Amadea," "Ace," & "Octopus." 3 yachts I would actually prefer to have in my, so far, 29-boat fleet because they are among the most efficient & effective at their size range in the world.
I have a question -- as long as the yacht has a forward and rear thrusters -- how large of yacht can be operated by the owner? Basically at what length do you really need to have a crew ? I am considering 70 feet.
Octopus would be my first choice to buy. Amadea would be a close second. If I bought Octopus I would have to bring you aboard. I'd find something for you to do. Maybe the electronic systems. Or super secret cool stuff.
Kismet and Octopus weren't bad, but none of the others (no pun intended) floated my boat. Now, Cloud 9 and the heavenly Princess Mariana (now named what... Pegasus XXVIII or something?) are in a class all by themselves.

I would buy Octopus, Amadea, and Lady Moura, maybe Luminosity would have to see how the tech works on it first. Could be a great technical marvel or a complete pain in the rear lol. I didn't realize Garcon had sold. I had been seeing it and ACE together in port , and on anchor when checking Marine Traffic. I like the idea of the support vessels. If you helo in on the support vessel it doesn't interupt the main yachts flow for part of the day to just tender over to it.
seen Luminosity while was built (being from Livorno) beside the amazing line, it is in tune with the current demands regarding green technology. It is my favourite among these batch of yachts,. Just wondering if you could do a video regarding how much it cost to maintain vessels of these proportions, and how much energy they consume whilst moving. could be very interesting.
