@@sandym340 For 35+ years my dad used powdered Tide and powdered Cascade in the dishwasher and never had a septic issue. Maybe it's the newer stuff on the market today. I use packs now instead of powdered and so far no issues.
I am curious Does anyone have a comment on the laundry sheets. They supposedly dissolve into the laundry. The savings is three-fold: >less bulk and weight because there is no water in them >no giant plastic jug to put into the landfill >no soap residue in the dispenser cup
If you hang your towels to dry instead of dumping them into the hamper/basket then they won't stink. Also keep the washer door/lid open when not being used
Yes and Definitely yes...butttt. make sure a nosy (or one that likes to hide) cat or such can't get trapped in there so lay a longish board or such across the agitator and extending so if lid does get flipped down, your pet has a better change of being able to push it up and get out. (handy, esp if u r not home)
Really great tips! I love that you're teaching people the dying art of wrapping wet clothes in a towel LOL. This was standard procedure for me since I grew up during a time when lots of things had to be handwashed.
I haven't had to iron for years, I hang the clothes right out of the dryer, spray it with water and give it a little tug and I dont need to iron it. I also fold the clothes as it comes out of the dryer that saves me steps relocating to fold and ironing. Zipping up zippers helps to protect your clothing as well😁
I'm in my 40s but when I was a kid in the 80s/90s there were more refill packs of laundry detergent that you just add water to. Saved so much plastic. It was like this with fabric softener and dish liquid too. I've noticed they are starting to come back...why they stopped I will never know!
A couple of years ago during a really dry summer we would direct our rinse / spin cycles to a container to use on the grass & garden. We had been using a recommended dose of laundry detergent & were shocked at how "sudsy" the water was. We cut the amount of detergent for each load in half, still resulted in clean laundry & saved on purchase of supplies.
I’m a liquid laundry detergent girl. I just ordered your Makers Clean Kit, and I can’t wait to get it! My friend turned me on to your page and I loved your waffle microfiber towel. 🎉 have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!
Laundry packs Tide only! I have the dryer balls but I don’t think they do much for static for me. I cut the dryer sheet in half to help with the environment as much as I can.
Hi Melissa, so I'm a liquid gal but am trying to switch to the sheets, you're Canadian so I'm sure you've heard about "True Earth". For sure the laundry sheets are fab for traveling. Concerning stinky washers, I'm assiduous in wiping down my machine after my wash day but also cleaning my washer every 3 months, since we’re only 2 (if your a family of 4 or more, it should be done monthly). I have a friend that's an appliance repair guy and he gave me this recipe (funny, I'm maybe giving you a homemade recipe, weird). You throw these ingredients directly in your washer, not mixed together…1 cup white vinegar & 1/2 cup baking soda and start your machine on "Clean Washer" cycle or a short cycle. IAlso, in my case once a year, I do the heavy-duty clean and this is 1 cup bleach & 1/2 cup baking soda on the same cycle. He also says concerning the detergent drawers should be well cleaned every time you do these clean-ups…if needed get the old toothbrush out and clean. And yes, do always leave the door and the detergent drawer also open. So my last suggestion is the problem of clothes lying around since you judge you can wear them again - fixed that problem! My hubby and I each have a place for us with two hooks; mine is behind the bedroom door and my husband’s is in a small free wall space in our closet. You want to wear your kit another day, 1 hook for your pants, 1 hook for your top - problem solved! Hope this helps you out, and all you out there that are struggling like us all 😊
I'm liquid detergent all the way. I'm rather meticulous about the way I separate laundry (my family says crazy...I like meticulous better). My sorting looks something like this: 1) warm wash (underwear, socks, etc) 2) reds, pinks, purple, orange 3) blue, green 4) black, grey 5) white, cream 6) jeans 7) towels 8) microfibers. Now because I separate things so much, sometimes I have pretty small loads. Because of this, I like the convenience of being able to really adjust the amount of detergent I use. I love doing laundry! 💖
I have always washed (and dried) by weight (of fabric type). Doesn't take any longer to sort by batch/load of polyester (for instance), jeans, towels etc.
Ms. Maker, what a great line!!! "Being on the high seas in the middle of a storm" That is priceless!! Well spoken, oh, and I have purchased two orders of your micro fiber clothes. Great!
I’m a laundry sheets fan. It makes my life easier and I know that I’m not contributing to the land fills. I use the unscented “Earth Breeze” I love it.
I made my own powdered detergent, but my hubby will only use liquid. I recently bought detergent sheets and love them! Hubby still wont use them, though! LOL! I've always used Lestoil for greasy stains (Dad used it on his work clothes as he was an HVAC tech). Oxyclean is a nice boost and is amazing if you want to soak really dirty clothes in a bucket/bin. A couple years ago I learned about using hot water on a fresh blood stain. You rinse the stain under hot running water. WOW did it work well! Old stains, maybe not, but I was surprised. My family uses cold water almost exclusively, as well as gentle cycles. We hang our clothes inside mostly (pollen allergies) but towels and sheets get hot water and the dryer. I finally convinced Hubby that he doesn't need to wash every piece of clothing every time he wears it. Unless he's sweating or it gets dirty, just hang it to "air out" (he's OCD so it took a while). He realizes that his clothing lasts longer when he does this! 💕
I do petsitting all over, so I’ve seen all kind of laundry setups. The last place had laundry strips instead of powder, liquid, or pods. Id never seen them before but they did a fine job.
love your videos they give me such motivation to clean and open my eyes to smaller stuff i never would of looked at I'm a recent home buyer and your channel has helped so much!
I like liquid gain detergent and laundry softener. I have also used the pods. I switch up every now and then. Lol 😂 I love using vinegar with all my clothes along with detergent and laundry softener. (All in cold water) 😊
I use liquid tide free and gentle. I haven't tried the packs. I have tide powder as well but seem to reach for the liquid. I also have the laundry strips. The jury is still out on them. I now use the Downey rinse and refresh. What a fantastic product!
I recently switch to laundry sheets. Mine are from Earth Breeze, first time I’ve tried this type of laundry cleaner so I don’t know about other brands but I’m loving these. I wanted less mess, less lugging heavy containers around and less plastic waste! I’m trying to use more natural cleaners everywhere in my home to save money and cut down on pollution. I use vinegar, baking soda, essential oils and stay away from store bought chemicals. ❤ Love your advise. Thank you.
I always use cold water to wash my clothes. I'll throw it on hot for my bedding. I use liquid detergent and always leave the lid open. I've tried to forgo dryer sheets for the wool laundry balls, but I'm finding my clothes have been more staticky, so I might switch to the plastic ones.
For static, this really helps: Take a sheet of aluminum foil, wad it up together into a ball, about golf ball size and keep it in your dryer till it gets ratty. I also use the wool balls and have a little silicone thing to help with pet hair. The plastic balls did not help with static but the aluminum ball does.
I love your tips! One I have is to keep a water spray bottle in the drawer under my dryer. Small wrinkles can be spritzed out once the garment is on a hanger… easy breezy!
I was literally like 1 hr ago watching another laundry hacks I was in search came across a few you did one a long time ago but thank you for posting another. Happy Valentine’s Day!!!! I hate doing laundry, I leave the socks for my husband, Lol.. Am I the only one??
Great Vlog as always Melissa. I use laundry pods or packs as you mention. Have always left the door of my machine and Dryer open and quickly wiped down the inside of the door and the seal every time. Advantage of using pods is that the detergent drawer doesn’t get dirty or have residue building up inside. I use a machine cleaner once every two months.
To solve chairdrobe I put an over-the-door hook rack on the bk of my closet door (bed or bath door works). Or try an aesthetic wall mount hook rack. I hang "2 rewear" clothes on it. Ez and not piled.
I love Nellie's powder. It's inexpensive and a bucket lasts more than 3 years for me. It washes the same as any regular washing soap and my washing machine no longer has any gunk on the rubber.
Hi Melissa. This is my first time that I am sharing with you.I really enjoy your videos. They are very inspiring.Other than that, the way you present them ,is even more interesting.I really admire the way you dress up.Each time ,a new outfit.Your nail paints, hair .. everything is so perfect.Microfiber clothes are really amazing. They do wonders. Thanks for helping me,keep my house clean at all times. Would love to hear from you as well...Thanks....
It's always been powdered detergent for me. I like Tide Unscented Powder. Another good stain remover is Sunlight bar soap. I don't use fabric softener either; I like to put some vinegar in my final rinse.
Yes, besides fabric softeners can leave a 'coating' on your dryer line filter (that u don't see) so wash (and let dry) the dryer filter once in a while.
I use Cold Power senstive liquid or powder or Persil sensitive powder or liquid in New Zealand. Most of the time it is powder that I use. It is cheaper. Love your videos. Thank you 😊
I used liquid laundry detergent until I found laundry detergent strips or sheets and I love them ! They come in a cardboard box that is super light (no plastic, no water) and you can easily tear them in half for a smaller or bigger load. Added bonus: they're so easy to pack for a weekend or holidays away (just in case we run out of clean clothes with 2 little kids) 👌
I have old school habits . I like to use liquid detergent, turn on machine/water to dissolve detergent, then place clothes in machine . However newer models dont allow cycle to begin with the lid open☹️
I live in West Africa so we don't have a lot of choice because many people don't have washing machines. I use powder because that's what's available. After watching this video I feel quite proud that I'm on top of my laundry routine. I put it in at night because we only have running water during the night (sometimes only for an hour so it may take two nights) and my husband hangs it outside in the morning. Either one of us brings it in, whoever has time, and we put it away immediately.
Another great video with awesome tips. I am all for liquid laundry detergent, recently started to try the tru earth laundry sheets… I will stick to liquid 😂❤
We wash towels at a higher temperature than the clothes we wear. Kitchen hand towels & tea towels are washed together at 60°. Would like a separate washing machine just to wash these. Bedding also washed at 60°
We use powder since it comes in a cardboard box. We are trying and cut down on plastic packaging detergent comes in. Love all the forms of detergent though!
The pods now come in a cardboard box in Ireland so it probably won't be long before they are available everywhere. That will give you more of a choice of which to use. Personally I buy whichever is on offer at the time. X
Im a laundry Liquid person, but if u say the packs are good, then I will definitely try them out!!! Btw I loved your video smmm! thank u, I really adore your channel so much!♥♥♥
I’m a laundry sheet user, however, I’m inclined to use something more simple and natural like vinegar, baking soda, or maybe Castile soap instead of any detergent. Would you be able to talk about using those kind of things in a washing machine? Will that provide any cleaning power for everyday loads and/or will that cause any machine damage over time?
I used liquid detergent for years and had a lot of gunk piling up in the drum everytime. I switched to Powder and the issue got solved in a couple of cycles. There is also this hack : you occasionaly do an empty load with a dishwasher tablet!
I wash my towels, sheets and whites twice and it makes a HUGE difference. I wash everything in laundry detergent, oxyclean and lysol disinfectant. Then I wash them in hot water, bleach, laundry detergent and fabric softener. I used to strip my towels and sheets and certain clothes twice a year, this has stopped me from having to do that. And I'm a laundry pak person all day long!
You talk about fabric weights. This is how I separate my clothes. It's a separation of both color and weight. Jeans Khaki pants Light-colored t-shirts Light-colored button down/pullover shirts (I don't know what they're made of) Dark-colored shirts and pants (it's really 1 pair of pants, but mixing t-shirts with non-t-shirts) Bed sheets, pillow cases and blanket (usually 1 full set at a time) Socks, underwear and all types of towels; and I don't remember off-hand where the bath mats, dish mats, scrub squares and microfiber cloths go, but it's somewhere near this grouping Sweatshirts go whereever it's convenient (I really only have 2 - one gray and one blue) Cleaning rags from my cleaning lady are always separate, usually right after she leaves, and sometimes followed by a washing machine cleaner.
Spray 'n Wash Stain Stick is also a miracle stain remover, you can pretreat and don't have to wash it right away, Bounce Pet Hair and Lint Guard Mega Dryer Sheets with 3X Pet Hair Fighters, I cut them in half though also miracle worker and liquid All free & clear detergent.
I used to have a sign on my washer door to leave it open because my husband also kept closing it! Now I have one of those magnetic things that holds the door from swinging all the way open and the husband leaves it alone.
Oh my word, your washing machine and drier are HUGE. Industrial size. How much does it cost to run those machines please. $8 per drier load in New Zealand. Yes, that is EIGHT DOLLARS. And our machines are less than half the size of your own. Great video thanks so much.
Have always used laundry powder detergent. I actually have to buy the Tide Free & Gentle which was recommended by my dermatologist because all other detergents irritate my skin. As always I picked up some useful information. Thank you!
Get yourself some soap nuts. They work great and are the absolute best for sensitive skin. I started using them for my baby with eczema and now we use them for everything.
I personally feel like I get more out of liquid than packets. I would prefer powder over anything else but since the price of power has skyrocketed I use powder. Thanks for your videos
Liquid detergent for me. I measure out 2T of liquid in a measuring spoon per load. I find the lines in the cap too hard to see and I figure that’s done on purpose so I’ll use more of the product.
I use liquid, fragrance -free laundry soap. It dissolves well in my top- loading machine and in the cokd water I use. I only use half the reccommended amount.
I need to get some dryer balls, I hate when I fold my laundry and get to my sweater, it's so static-y and I always end up having to shock myself in either the dryer door when i close it or the doorknob. 😭😭 I don't want to keep shocking myself
Hi can you show me how you clean the inside of that gasket from the washing machine? For some reason I always always have mold, mildew and gunk, and I always spray it and let it sit with vinegar in and it’s just always dirty.
Hi, Melissa! I have a top loader washing machine, so your tips about drying the inside and cleaning the detergent reservoirs aren't applicable to me. Do you have any advice that those of us with top loaders/agitators should heed?
Laundry powder person I am 😁 What I'd like to know is how do I clean caked-on washing powder residue off the detergent tray? I've tried a million different things and none of them work.
I was told that vinegar in a front loader can damage the seals so I have not used any in mine. I do liquid because I normally do larger loads and it takes more packs to do those. I don't mind loading the liquid into mine.
Oh gosh I wonder is that true about the vinegar damaging the machine because I use it when washing cleaning cloths, towels and in with my whites so I'm now concerned that I maybe damaging my washer 🤔
Hello Melissa I love your videos I started doing my cleaning stuff and works I have a question I clean a Clinic very busy floors get very dirty can let me know what can I make for them to come up I little better not wood cheap floors 😅thank you 🦋🦋🌷🌷
❤️ I like those dryer balls. I use them most of the time, they prevent a lot of uneven drying from the dryer sheets getting stuck on the air vents.💙 Mine are blue!
Laundry powder all the way! It's a little harder to find in some stores, so my default is liquid. I cannot convince myself that packs are the way to go for some reason
Laundry packs are very bad for the environment with all the micro plastics they put into the water (which compounds the plastics that come from our clothes). I like Seventh Generation liquid since it is plant based and they have a great recyclable bottle. Also I use Fels Naptha bar for stain removal, it takes a little elbow grease but it works really well.
