Love the fact that you teaching us that playing guitar is so much more then just pressing a bunch of notes together.Every single note should advertise where we emotionally are in that moment.I thank you for that.

Great levels! Level 10 is hot. To really internalize the fonction of a note, while practicing scales, or stuff, I mostly refer to numbers related to the fonction instead of the notes themselves. It's like a numeral solfège!

I've learnt and played all my life the one finger per fret style, so not used to playing whole steps with two consecutive fingers, that doesn't feel natural at all! Great video anyhow

Only a friend would share this great training. thank you. I play acoustic a lot and have a sold body electric, .. I guess I need to do the solid. It would be nice (some day) to use a semi or hollow ... the latter I don't have... I have a godin synth (not using it yet) nylon... maybe that. great inspiration ...

great lesson, one of the things im doing when associating feelings with sounds is trying to picture a movie moment happening, and the score being the same feeling as the sound im making. For those particular sounds in level 7 i pictured a shellshocked slow motion world war two soldier looking round to find his squad are all dead (think saving private ryan shellshock scene). Im hoping this association method will pay off in the long run but what do you guys do to associate. Any more tips?
@pinealgland6592
@pinealgland6592 2 года назад
i‘m doing something similar to the major and minor chords, like E major is for me a sunrise and E minor is like a sunset, i also associate it with a colour, in this case it is yellow. Or an F Major is for me a green „friendly“ forest and a F minor is a „darker“ forest and also associated with the green colour. So i‘m doin this with all 7 main notes and they got all their unique feeling for me, it is like im seeing some pictures in my head and some feeling that i get from it. this is what music is for me, an expression of feelings and pictures that evaluates in what you hear. Sorry for my bad english, maybe this helps someone :)

You have to be very careful when playing legato. If you are playing 3 notes per string then you must avoid hearing the 123-123-123 sound. Each note must be super even so there is no beat on the 4th, 7th ect..Also don't mix hammers with pull offs. These have a different sounds and so it cannot be called legato. Using pivots and turnarounds is the way to go just like it is played on piano.
@adrianmay_multiinstrumentalist
@adrianmay_multiinstrumentalist 2 года назад
Nah, that's somewhat incorrect. You can practice 3 nps stuff with a triplet feel (1,2,3), or with a quarter note feel (1,2,3,4). They both have a use, and it's not wrong to practice a triplet feel. (Just don't get stuck in it, and be able to break away and do the same with quarter notes, sixteenth notes, etc.) It has a use. Also, obviously the term "legato" has become synonymous with the use hammer ons, but that's not really what it means. It's more of a modern slang definition used by guitarists. There are plenty of amazing players that play combining hammers and pull offs, and do perfect legato (Tom Quayle, if you don't believe me). And yes, it's true they both have a different sound, but it's not wrong, or less "legato" (if you have proper technique). That's like saying legato isn't legato if you use picked notes, because a picked note and a hammer on have a different attack. You can play legato phrases, and literally pick every note, and you can play staccato phrases that are all hammer ons. The technical definition of what legato truly means is that there is no space or silence in between the notes (and the opposite is true for staccato, meaning there is a space/silence between each note.) That being said, you can use hammers ons, pull offs, and picking to do either staccato or legato phrasing.
