Poor in comparison to most F1 drivers, maybe, but his family was average for what most would call a working class family. Certainly not below the poverty line. Yes, his dad took multiple jobs to fund Lewis’ racing, but his core job was middle management (in IT I believe).

I've heard from quite a few who knew him from childhood/school give a different 'true' version of events. They are quite different to the media trained Lewis peddled stories. Even some from his karting days, where he was given most of the best gear, due to being mixed race. I knew some rich kids near me, and not even they could afford fulltime karting. Yeh, I heard his dad had 2 or 3 jobs, how did he fit all that in, and manage time to take him karting. To earn the amounts for karting, he'd have no time for karting.

That is a backstory that Hamilton himself has created and pushed. His family were at worst working class or more likely lower middle class. His father had to take on extra work to support a very expensive hobby. Of the recent crop of drivers several others have come from normal working backgrounds Vettel, Alonso and Ocon so he is not as unique as he likes to pretend to be

@@obk1404 and this extra work is also bshit, cuz you cant even hold 1 normal job if you driving your kid cross country and through europe for karting 2-3 days a week. so its a job where you use computers or on the phone or some other on the move type job that gives you alot of freedom and doesnt require full attention and to be in a certain place.

I mean you can always compare that someone was poorer or had it worse. He hasn't said his family was the poorest in the world or country. But the family did struggle to make the racing dream come true. If anything his story highlights that there is a need to provide programmes and support for low income families because there are talented people. It is not a competition of who had it harder.

Rubens understood his role as a No#2 driver and was a very good one because he definitely had the skills to win more races however he did his job .

@@ianmccord8633 I am not offended or upset by Lewis Hamilton's success... To the contrary, I was just being dad funny with his wins and how life has turned out for him. Actually, I couldn't be happier for him. He rose from pretty much every disadvantage to become in my opinion, a great driver and also IMHO a really good person. He's still human, polite, patient and doesn't think what does for a living is the top of everything, but it's how he takes life's hard bits and the way he articulates his acceptance of losses (see 2022 season to Red Bull) and other downturns in stride. I admire that in a person that is highly visible. He's a good role model for kids, a good competitor to his fellow racers and from every indication easy to work along side. I also enjoy watching him do what he does on the track. He's super talented as a driver. Hope you have an amazing day too!
