And of course there's Achinese, Minangkabau, Javanese, Siamese, Sri Langkan and Kampuchean who have made Malaysia their home. And don't forget also the millions of Indonesian, Bangladeshi, Burmese, Vietnamese, Filipino, Pakistani working and living here. That's why Malaysia truly Asia...

I attended a college in upstate NY during the late 1980s, stayed there for about 3.5 years and never had the money to come back to KL during festivities. That whole duration there, I simply miss Malaysian food. Was really tough, tougher than the studies ... 🤗

1. Malaysia Truly Asia first used by the govt to promote the country back in 1999 and has been our tag ever since. 2. MH - which is the code for Malaysia AIrlines also carries Malaysian Hospitality message. 3. Ask the Locals - Malaysians are generally shy but very helpful. Just ask /talk to any Malaysians in random, most will take that as an honour really. 4. Number of Shopping Malls. - as KL is getting bigger and busier, the shopping malls, are more region/residential-centric so that people from that residential area do not have to go out into the city centre eg Setapak Central Mall for people in Setapak, Wangsa Walk Mall for Wangsa Maju, Melawati Mall for Melawati area, MyTown Shopping Centre for Cheras region and so on. 5. Food : Nasi campur : Malay-style rice - is the commonest real local food for all Malaysians and eating it is an art : you see various/lots of dishes (lauk) but what should be selected and what suits what is an art. This is what local usually eat during our daily lives. 6. Do visits Peninsula East Coast (Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang) and East Malaysia (Sabah Sarawak) as well as the lifestyle and cultures are (no less pleasantly) quite different. 7. Do visits the mosques, temples - some of the major mosques have guides (FOC) to explain anything asked and experience the real live diversity of the country. Hope you are lucky enough to get invited to weddings. 8. Try to get involved in coming CNY and Ramadan (late March/April) and Eid (late April). Experience the Open-House concept during Eid (Rumah Terbuka). 9. Skye - your collabs with Alana and Solomon is great. Love it. Do try a collab with Mark O'Dea as well. He's a British who has been staying in Malaysia for years.

Yes, Malaysia definitely has one of the most diverse food cultures in the world. There's so many options to choose from besides the usual local Chinese, Malay, and Indian cuisines. They're also the ever popular international cuisine such as Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, and Middle Eastern food options that are readily available everywhere in the city of KL. One will easily put on some pounds if not careful. Lol!😅👌

What distinguishes Malaysian satay is that the peanut sauce is quite fatty and creamy, and the original satay sauce is mostly from Malay cuisine, in fact, it has been served during the Aidilfitri festival since ages ago served with ketupat and lemang.

Tea is not British customs 😭 It has always been Asian culture introduced by the Chinese. British discovered tea and traded it with opium, a 2 strikes with one stone that destabilised Chinese dynasty and caused Chinese to become opium junkies. The British loves tea so much that they opened tea plantation in Cameron High and Sri Lanka.

i’m glad you bring up the plug. when i was in the philippines some years back, i ran into a bit of a pickle because i didn’t know that they use a different type of plug than the one we use here in malaysia. what was supposed to be an easy breezy start to a week-long training session turned into an hour-long frantic search for an adapter to connect my laptop to the power source. the class couldn’t start because the trainer, me, couldn’t get his computer to power on. what a way to make a good first impression. 😅 i took for granted that they would use the same type of plug considering we’re neighbouring countries. but i learned my lesson.

@noordinbeldenlex1620 Год назад
1. English - English is quite commonly spoken here because Malaysia was once a British colony and albeit not always fluently, you will not get lost if all you know is English. 2. Friendly & helpful people - Malaysians love to travel ourselves; therefore, we can easily understand how people will value us if we can help them and be kind to them when they are guests in our country. 3. Local & Western variety - Malaysia is in the centre of Southeast Asia, on the trading route between China and India. Malaysia (Melaka) once served as a connecting point between Europe and the Far East. Due to this, it started serving as a hub for regional trade within the country, making it convenient to find both locally produced and imported western items as well as any other worldwide brands. 4. Diversity - Even though Malaysia's neighbours are just as diverse as Malaysia, Malaysia did not have an assimilation strategy that required its population to adopt a single national identity. Malaysia allows each ethnic community to retain its vernacular education in order to preserve their cultures, languages, and culinary traditions and to reflect the diversity of its populace. 5. Appliances - Yes, we employ the British method in many of our household appliances and equipment, including right-hand driving because of the significant British impact on our country. 6. Strong food culture - When it comes to food, Malaysian local dishes like Nasi Lemak and Roti Chanai are difficult to find in Thailand or even in Indonesia, whereas Thai food, such as Tom Yam, Song Tam and from Indonesia like Bakso, Ayam Penyet, and Nasi Padang, as well as Middle Eastern, Indian, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese and other International cuisines, are also readily available here. 7. Clean & laid back - Kuala Lumpur is smaller than Jakarta, Bangkok, or even Manila, making it easier to move around and maintain cleanliness compared to the congestion and bustle of other cities in Southeast Asia. 8. Developed - The country of Malaysia developed quickly under Tun Dr Mahathir, often known as "Bapa Pemodernan" or "Father of Modernization." Putrajaya, Malaysia's administrative capital, Petronas Towers, KLIA, the North-South Expressway, KL Sentral, Sepang Circuit, and several other infrastructures that make Malaysia a developed nation have all been created by Dr. Mahathir's administration. Malaysia is also seen as fortunate due to its location outside of the earth's crust line, which protects it from many natural calamities such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, typhoons, and other similar events when compared to its closest neighbours.

1. Why are you surprised at the 3 pin plug? We were a British protectorate. We adopted British standards and practiises. 2. Once, our students were studying in British universities. It was natural and efficient to learn the British practises whether in engineering, accountancy, law and medicine. Knowing that those practises were already adopted in Malaysia. 3. Notice that our electric cables are underground. I.e. you can't see them. Unlike in Thailand. And the electric frequency is 50 Hz. Unlike in America or their former colonies where it is 60 Hz. 4. We drive on the left. And position of the signal switch and the wiper switch, on the steering, is for the right hand driven cars. But we don't buy British cars. We buy Japanese and Germans. And we don't honk for no reason unlike in most SE Asia. And, like the British, there are various Malaysian reactions to Jeremy Clarkson. 5. The whole political set up mirrors the British. There is a constitutional monarch. There is the powerful office of the PM. There is parliament. The civil servants serve their political masters in the Cabinet. And there is no military coup becoz the armed forces is under civilian control. Next, the politicians and civil servants find the independent minded judges annoying. All very British. 6. Our towns are not chaotic. In the 70s the govt establish the offìce of the town planner. And town planning was offered as a course in the universities. And fortunately the local politicians and businessmen more or less abide by the decisions of the town planners. 7. Now our young ones go crazy for Kpop, Kdrama and the japanese animae. Our pop culture is diversifying. We no longer look to the west exclusively. And malaysians don't twerk.
