Already follow a bunch of these. I discovered your channel a few months ago and have been following your advice religiously. I’m almost 40 so I wanted to upgrade my wardrobe to something more age appropriate. Got rid of my Apple Watch and bought a Citizen Avion watch in gold (to match my gold necklace that I received as a gift) with a dark brown leather band. Got rid of my cargo shorts and bought chino shorts (sand and navy). Got rid of my graphic t-shirts and bought solid color t-shirts, printed short sleeve button ups and solid color polos. Got rid of my colorful sneakers and bought some minimalist ones (all black Nikes for everyday wear, white Stan Smiths and black and white Superstars) as well as a beautiful pair of dark brown leather lace up boots from Thursday Boot Co. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments from co-workers and my confidence in trying new styles has risen. I’m finding myself buying articles of clothing and colors that in my 20’s I swore I would never buy. What I’ve found in my older age is that dressing nicer makes me feel better about myself. I’ve matured as a person and I want my wardrobe to reflect that. Thank you Ashley for your advice and for all you do. It’s really helped me out a lot. Now to I just need to start buying some fall weather clothes. Can’t find any chino pants in my size in any stores in my city.
After all these years of receiving the best style advice, we should throw a thank you party for Ashley for fixing our crappy style. And then in another 20 years have a reunion where we all show up with gray hair and white sneakers 😁
Thanks, Ashley, you're awesome! Today for work I am wearing my white button down shirt, navy chinos, Allen Edmonds burgundy penny loafers and leather banded watch. I am 60 years old and using your great advice people think I am much younger.
Ashley, I am howling with laughter at the clip of the guy slipping on ice. That actually happened here in Ireland back in 2010. He became a sensation and the subject of many (many) memes, so much so that in 2020 a plaque was erected in his honour, at the site. :-D :-D
I have also watched these videos for at least five years now, I like it when Ashley‘s name is in the title somewhere/somehow. Her opinion is what I come here for, it just seems right. 👍
9:25 Very important insight about boots. You go from Walmart, to Sorta ok Timberland's, decent Thorogoods with some shoddy materials. And then straight up into Pacific Northwest Handmade boots that will last a lifetime and are legitimately heirloom pieces... Plus they are made to your foot dimensions so you get a perfect fit. Theres no reason to spend tons of money on trash boots. Not to mention they can save your feet and back in the long run...
The bomber jacket hype is real. I just bought my third and fourth bomber jackets!! I love them so much, my ultimate outerlayer. I live in a warm climate and never need anything heavier than a quality bomber to keep warm and stay stylish
@@angelorobledo1536 I live in a warm climate, and I basically never have the chance to wear any of my jackets. Most of the year, anything more than a single short-sleeved shirt would be uncomfortably warm. I want to layer, but it's just too hot...
Check out Ryan Gosling’s (character’s) long sleeve polo in his new movie - The Gray Man. I like it. It probably looks good bc he has his sleeves raise up to his forearms.
Hi Ashley! I tried guessing all of the items you would mention...and fell short on the shoes (no low top white leather sneakers 😱🤯!) Great content as always! Thank you 😊
My personal opinion is the Levi's 501 is an example of a timeless pair of pants. They've been around since about the 1870's, so I'd consider them timeless. I agree with your thoughts on slim or slim straight jeans, but I think to be "timeless" it would have to be the straight fit.
Love the vids, would we possibly be seeing some color scheme/theory videos in the future? Seen some nice pieces and color scheme for looks is sometimes far and few between for men
Maybe I'm just old-fashioned (or old … who am I trying to kid), but to me, Oxford shirts are a *casual* shirt. I wear poplin button downs (preferably supima cotton) with suits, or for any dressy occasion. Oxford shirts are indisputably a stylish option for business casual or smart casual, however. On a separate point, I'm happy that you mentioned respectable brands (rather than over-hyped fashion watches) when discussing wristwatches. I'm particularly surprised and pleased that two were highly affordable brands.
Wear a watch, gentlemen. No, not an Apple/smart watch . . . but a real watch. Preferably with a stainless steel band but leather is OK too. You don't have to spend a fortune, and it ups your style a few quantum levels. Everybody has an Apple watch. Which is just an extension of your phone. Be different.
Agreed. I used an Apple Watch for years and recently upgraded to a real watch. For my first watch I bought a Citizen Avion in gold with a dark brown leather band. It’s so pretty. I don’t even miss my Apple Watch.
Hey Ashley, I tried to purchase a few of these tee's buy my bank declined to do business with the country that they are coming from. If you can find some quality American vendors I'll try to help you out in the future. Take care dear.
Everything eventually goes out of style. Pretty much nothing that's commonly worn today was worn 200 years ago. Who knows what the future holds. If nothing else, dark wash jeans will go out of style once the sun explodes and humanity goes extinct.
@@MensFashioner I would argue jeans weren't actually considered stylish until the 1950s. And if longevity validates style, nohing is more stylish than sandals, which have been around for pretty much all of human civilization. :)
Don't agree with your view on long sleeve polos. It's a British mod thing and imo always looks good with jeans under a blazer, wool coat or as a top layer.
All great advice except for the polo. I'm still never buying a polo. I don't work in a cafe anymore and I WILL die on this comedically small ant-adjacent hill.
100% disagree on the long sleeve polos. IMHO short sleeve polos are a big nono... worn by mostly old and unfashionable the long sleeve is the more fashionable choice for shure!
As a near 47 year old, glad sneakers are out of the list. classic boots and shoes are way more stylish for men my age, unless you just so happen to win the genetic lottery like Beckham, DiCaprio, Elba and Pitt who still look young enough to get away with it.
Style is whatever you wear that brings you confidence and happiness, this channel is more geared towards basic mens style, with timeless classic appeal, not fashion forward or unique styles imo
You shouldn't feel pressured to wear something you're not comfortable with. But she's offering her opinion for free and the advice is there mainly to avoid obvious blunders. The idea is to stick to conservative and timeless look which works for the majority of men who often don't even think about this stuff. If you can pull off a different look, good for you. However sometimes you also have to step out of your comfort zone to evolve a bit.
Polos were originally designed for tennis players. If you need a long-sleeved polo it probably doesn't have to be a polo in the first place. It's just an excuse not to wear a shirt.
Isn’t that the point of a list for clothing items that never go out of style? I mean you could have worn them 2018 and prior. You can wear them today. And you can also wear them a couple of years from now
