It's crazy how the Metal Zone has gone from a total meme to a well respected pedal in the last year. I wonder if next year people will discover that the line six spider was the secret to boutique tube tone all along.
That's what happens when you give a bad product a bit of love, honestly, boss could've released this as a whole new pedal and no one would be none the wiser.
The Metal Zone got its bad name from incorrect use by amateurs: People new to audio (old audio-engineers in Hungary are also notorious for this) try to use their EQing skills they got from their Hi-Fi or Winamp by cutting all the mids.
+László Szerémi lol no. The original Metal Zone got its bad name because it was noisy, gain pot had no usable range, EQ pots had a way too steep curve etc. The re-made Waza edition fixed all those issues.
ErebosGR if you look at Ola Englund’s channel, he tested out the original pedal and it worked fine for him after he plugged it in through the effects loop in his amp
I know, dude. I didn't say it doesn't work. All of the high-gain pedals can/should be used in the effects loop, that doesn't negate all the other issues.
I did a Metalzone vs Revv G3 video on my channel just before they released the Waza version. The original just doesn't have the midrange to do any hair metal stuff. Looks like the new one is actually improved!
swedish death metal bands never used the metal zone and at the gates isn’t even a traditional swedish death metal band, despite this guy ripping off slaughter of the soul in the video
@@oatmeal710 actually that were some mainstream normies who named the whole scene so. It should be just Swedish metal without the "Death". I mean most of those sound power metal (a modern version).
I particularly liked the Djent and Brutal Death Metal, great square wave clipping almost synth like or bit crusher going on with the basses strings. We need to see the settings.
I remember back in the days when I could pick them up $10 a pop because pawn shops had a PLETHORA of them. Now its $50+ and you're lucky if you find one in the whole town...
Pete, loved it as usual, but I think when you're doing these promos for a particular pedal, it would be a good idea to have an image of the settings you have in place for each style up in the corner or something. I kept wondering what changes you were making to the settings for each style! Keep up the great work!
Agree, it's a pity you don't show knob settings on pedals testing... and did you plugged it in clean, boost channel, or FX-loop ? does it react well with gain boost in front of it ? cya!
Rémi LAMBERT have you tried kyuss, corrosion of conformity, early Queens of the Stone age? Are you completely new to the gerne of do you search for some „underground“ Bands?
@@peteplaysmusic I have the original metal zone but this new one actually sounds pretty damn good. Might get one to test it out. I love all of these riffs you're so talented. I need to get back to practicing!
I have always loved the metal zone had one years ago with a marshal 4x12 half cab sounded awesome!!! But I was also 17 and anything loud sounded awesome then haha
I have an old HM-2 that I bought decades ago when I had a small Marshall. My favorite sound was running the HM-2 into the amp input with pretty much no bass or hi boost or cut, the level turned up all the way, and the list all the way down. That gave me a good hard rock tone with a lot of harmonics. I haven't tried it with my B-52 AT-100 half-stack yet.
I just picked mine up yesterday at the Guitar Center in my town, and I ABSOLUTELY FUCKIN’ LOVE IT!!! My guitar sounds like all of my favorite Metal bands
I love how all it takes is Ola making one positive video and Boss paying for some advertisement to change everyones mind about the Metal Zone being the worst pedal on the planet.
Little known fact, the original Metal Zone may be regarded as one of the worst distortion pedals ever but it’s actually Boss’s 2nd most successful pedal ever, selling almost 1 million units. The new one is still much better though. Thanks for watching! :)
Sheep will be sheep... When its cool to hate it they hate it.. When their youtube flat sound guitar god says its good everyone follow. This pedal was and is shit.
Excellent and informative: Mine is on the way and I'm looking forward to seeing how it sounds plugged straight into the clean channel (I don't have an fx loop in my little ol' vox tube amp! ;)
Finally got the chance to play the Chapman ML1 pro modern 6 string in Vegas. Was truly impressed not only by the build quality but by the pickups. Granted I played it through a Friedman BE50, but the chord definition at high gain was impressive.
I had one of the old Metal Zones years ago, boy did that sound bad. The new version sounds a lot better for certain! That Chapman 7 string sounds pretty good too!
Care to share settings and signal path? Glad to see more love coming for the Metal Zone. Specially the Waza craft. A lot of people who said it sucks didn't dial it in right.
Fuck, thank you so much for this demo. I was hoping to find a black metal demo for this pedal after seeing a regular metal zone on Wolves in the throne room’s board. You delivered and then some!
Gah !! Pete your a riff writing master !!! Everything I watch your videos it makes me want to grab my guitar! (Also makes me want a Chapman guitar lol)
Seems genuinely improved, which is awesome and all, but I kinda like my OG just fine *because of* its quirks - slamming it into the front end of an amp for ridiculous sudofuzz, or using it in the FX return for what essentially amounts to a completely different (pre)amp for a grand total of $50 on ebay. Wild little box that's fun to fiddle with. I could do without the hum it overemphasizes with that crazy gain stage, but a noise gate makes it work fine enough.
Starting from 0:31 growling: My tea's gone cold, I wondering why I got out of bed at all The morning rain clouds up my window, and I can't see at all And even if I could it'd all be grey, but your picture on my wall It reminds me that it's not so bad, it's not so baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
hola gran video, estaba indeciso entre el Boss metal core y el metal zone waza y este video me hizo decidirme por el metal zone waza , básicamente por su versátilidad , thanks
