Sadly we have morons like that where I live. We have blizzards that reduce visibility like that and yet people will drive like it’s dry, sunny and 70F. It’s not that they don’t know, they’re just too damn cocky and think they’re above Mother Nature.
@Ragetiger1

I'm not, I'm in California where this is all too common. 80MPH on a road and slams into a car either going the speed limit or off the shoulder from the zero visibility - max speed in this state is 70 on certain parts of the interstate. First rain is the same issue, too fast for driving conditions but will blame everyone else for the crash and chain reaction they started.

I’m a professional driver. I’ll tell you this is what professional drivers do, they drive. The problem is all of you unprofessional drivers that don’t know what the hell you’re doing you drive ridiculously slow, causing crashes that create these pile ups . If the speed limit is 7245 in Driver, you can see you turn your hazards on if you’re too scared to drive did you get off the damn road!

Regarding the big truck, and the boat stuck on the railroad track, he was using what we call a “lowboy” trailer, so that he’d have clearance to get under freeways. That gives him about 2 inches of clearance underneath the trailer and most railroad tracks won’t support that.

That is correct. It's not the first truck to get stuck at that crossing. Not long after this accident they finally decided to put up a sign to warn truck drivers to not cross the tracks. And the boat was one of only two custom made in the world. The man in the black jacket was the owner. He's also a friend of my boss 🙂

I’ve had to wait for a train at a train crossing when the arms came down. It’s not instantaneous. You can wait, and wait, and wait a long time before the train finally comes through. This timing is meant to keep drivers and pedestrians from attempting to cross the train tracks when the train is dangerously close to the crossing.

They aren't "accidents." The word accident implies blameless and there is always someone to blame, even Mother Nature. The proper word to use is crash or wreck. When a family of 4 is killed when a drunk driver driving the wrong way down a highway runs into them, it's not an accident. An example of a car accident is when you hit a Moose at 60 miles an hour. You can't fault the Moose. A blowout can cause a nasty wreck but it was an accident. Someone is most always at fault in a car wreck therefore it wasn't an accident.

Lack of patience seems to a common modern problem. Often when I'm on a bus in heavy traffic, people want to get out before the official bus stop. They do it in all weathers. I was once stranded with my family on a train, for over two hours. I doubt whether most people these days would cope. I blame overuse of electronic devices, that give some people a shorter attention span.

A lot of people have the mentality they’re invincible or they can run away from it. There’s an adrenaline rush and with a phone, they can show friends how brave they were and how powerful the storm was. But as soon as the basketball hoop goes so would I. I’ve seen tornado damage and assisted with recovery. A tornado will pick up an entire house and move it 6in while the house next door still has the decorative metal butterflies attached to the side of the garage. This probably wasn’t a full tornado on his st, but it could be the edge of one and he’s going to have some recovery work in the future.

You can’t help but feel for him, but he only waited like a minute or two? And then it looked like the train wasn’t moving crazy fast and there was a good unobstructed view both ways so i’m surprised he couldn’t avoid that. The train crossings are very rare here in the US, but I do recall waiting at one for a very long time. Was kinda silly imo because the train was right there parked and took like forever to get moving. There’s a single rail line that goes through my city and their timing is spot on. Hardly any wasted time waiting. I suppose those are a lot lighter and can accelerate and decelerate a lot quicker hence the name light rail.
@MrNoName7474
@MrNoName7474 10 месяцев назад
I just saw another train crash in the video and can’t help but wonder why there aren’t sensors or cameras at intersections so that conductors or automation could apply the brakes earlier in advance of a collision. Perhaps that’s already in place somewhere, but I work for a company lol so i understand if the tech is just lacking.

@@tjampman That’s a good idea. Worth a try and flashing lights or the lack thereof will be more visible than just a vehicle. Saw a video recently of a large pileup on a highway and I couldn’t help but think if any of those cars put on their hazards the next 6 crashes could’ve been avoided. Was rather unfortunate, but took place over several minutes as people continued to get pummeled. Video started out with a black vehicle parked right in the middle of the highway with no lights on… like everyone knows what’s coming. Guy filming was parked on the right shoulder with hazards on and a flashlight on the other vehicle, but was probably more distracting as I would be more likely to move left into the same lane as the parked car and less likely to look forward as I would be looking for hazards on the right.
@TitaniumTurbine
@TitaniumTurbine 10 месяцев назад
Ahhh this makes sense now. I have german ancestry (but am American) and I once waited at a red light for nearly 15 minutes. By then, there were three cars behind me and they all followed me when I merged back into the straight lanes. I remember feeling guilty about not waiting longer.
@ReedThomas71

The pile up in India was hilarious. Those vans looked like clown cars with all those people climbing out of them. It looked like someone flipped a light on in a kitchen and roaches were flying out and scattering from everywhere. I didn’t know you could get 29 people in a 5 passenger vehicle. Every door and the back gate flew open and people started rolling out of that thing and kept coming out one after the other. That was more amazing than the smog to me.

Whenever my old boss had one of us move one of the tracked vehicles we had (excavation company) he would never say run it here, or run it there. It was always "walk" the machine here or there. That is how slow those machines are. You could easily outpace the bulldozer and excavators by walking at a moderately brisk pace.

@Ragetiger1
@Ragetiger1 10 месяцев назад
You have to get under the trailer to pull the pin, You have to have the landing gear on the trailer down so you get the weight off the fifth wheel. Might not be enough time. Issue is that truck was coming down the track with the trailer stuck going up. It's a slight bend, so might have been impossible to do something like detaching from the load itself.
@ejb992
@ejb992 10 месяцев назад
@Ragetiger1 you don't have to have the landing gear down to drop a trailer. All you need to do is release the king pin and pull forward the trailer will slide right off and drop regardless of load. This is actually an issue with malicious drivers at truck stops that will pull the king pin release out of spite causing the unaware driver to lose the trailer when they attempt to leave.

Labate had a lowboy trailer only a couple inches off the ground. The tracks were raised, and he got stuck.

i get the feeling the boat got stuck because they didnt want to damage it after the barrier came down between the cab and the trailer, it would have meant scratching the boat, best just to let the train do all the damage eh..

The train saved the boat owners a lot of future grief. As they say “the best day of a boat owner’s life is the day they are no longer a boat owner”.

That car pileup in India is crazy. Any first world country would have drivers trained well enough to know not to drive at full speed when you can't fucking see where you're going.

Bro, the incident number three @13:39 of video's time line. It happened on Noida-Agra Expressway aka Taj Expressway. This didn't happen bcs of air pollution. And this incident happened in Dec or Jan. Coldest months in North India. Delhi is 45 Degree C in June and 2 degree C in Jan. So, this is not pollution or smog. It is fog. And let me tell u, it was not very thick fog. I have experienced worse situations, multiple times. Fog is so thick, that u have to cancel ur work and return. when u can't even see 2 meters away. INDIA is not that polluted, as u r potraying it. Delhi is polluted in around October, bcs the farmers burn down, the leftover of the rice plant, bcs it is a strong plant, difficult to pull out, so they burn it, which creates smog for a week, only. Otherwise, it is not so polluted and Indians r very conscious on the matter, specially our current govt. is very serious on it. If u r praising somebody, there is no problem, if u r totally mistaken. But, if u r criticising somebody, it is ur duty, that u r 100% correct and well read, about it.

Sure, one of if not the most polluted cities in the world isn't polluted. It doesn't have hazardous air for over half the year. If Delhi were to meet World Health Organization guidelines for annual average concentrations of PM2.5 the potential gain in life expectancy is estimated to be 12 years.
