Sometime could you please do a video talking about your ankle injury? I am out for a second semester due to a second ankle surgery. Also, what helped you with any ankle pain? I love KT tape, but it can get expensive!
Another fact i know of is to keep your water bottle cold for practice or preformances. Instead of filling your water bottle up with ice and only getting a bit of water, fill your water bottle half way then freeze it laying on its side. It will not only keep the water you put in there cold, you will get more water
@@a_k_406I think she was saying there's less ice taking up space where the liquid is. Instead it's spread thin along the side of the bottle, allowing for more liquid space in the bulk of the mass. Sorry if that sounds a bit too scientific!! (but haha thanks for pointing that out!)
Love these quick hack videos! I'd really appreciate if you would consider addressing how to begin to teach correct turnout for children. I find it very challenging to get my little ones to maintain a neutral spine since their cores aren't developed yet and as a result they tend to sit in the lower back to "unlock" more turnout. Any advice or exercises you have that would work to help teach those with insufficient core strength to recruit the right muscles would be so appreciated.
I took that advice about the demi-pliés in class today, and now I feel like I definitely won't be able to walk tomorrow 😂😂 but in the best way possible!
Please do a video on injury or ballet recovery essentials!!! Like for example, ice packs, heat packs, pain relieving cream, etc!! Also, I don't really know about foot stretchers and what to think. What do you think??? And, is there a foot stretcher you would actually recommend??!! ( BTW- congrats on 100k!!!!!❤️❤️)
I'm a competitive dancer of all styles and in ballet I really struggle in keeping my weight in the balls of my feet, I'm always on my heels. Could you help ? X
madison rose my dance teacher always says tits over toes 😂 keeping your upper body upright and slightly forward will help with your balance and moving on the balls of your feet
Madison rose I'm the same. I always struggle to keep my weight in the right places, but I think I am going to try Madeline S' tip to see if that works.
YOU'RE AT 100K OH MY GOODNESS!!! You always upload when I'm at school 😭😭 but your videos make me want to go home faster! it motivates me to get through!!! LOVE YOU KATIE ❤❤❤ SO HAPPY FOR YOU
Hi Katie! I was wondering if you could do a video with tips on improving holding your leg in the air à la seconde? What am I supposed to stretch/ be focusing on when lifting my leg etc? Thank you, I love your channel! ❤️
Oh.My.GOd!!! I really did not expect this to be THIS helpful !!! Hallelujah and thank you so much !! I'm actually sooo exciting to go back to class tomorrow and start implementing all of these !
Hello, Katy. I have a contribution for another way to store your ballet platter skirts. I discovered it while helping out with costumes in our ballet school wardrobe closet. Someone purchased a children's plastic outdoor swim pool. The platter skirts fit perfectly in the pool. You can stack as many as 7 or 8 skirts on top of each other, with tissue paper separating the skirts. I thought is to be a brilliant idea. I loved these helpful suggestions you shared. Definitely will be using the last three suggestions. You are such an inspiration. Could not dance as well as I do if it weren't for learning from your tutorials. You are such a sweet angel. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video it was very helpful!!!! Could you make a video about dealing with body image? I’m not as skinny as a professional ballerina but I would really love to be. I’m not starving myself and I don’t plan to because I know the dangers of it, but no matter how much I think I’ve improved as a dancer I always see myself as fat compared to the other girls in my class. I’m at a very healthy weight for my height (one pound above the minimal recommended weight) but I still feel like I’m very fat. I’ve been told I don’t look like it but I was wondering if you had any advice for how to deal with this.
The marble thing was recommended to me by a physical therapist when I was a kid. You can also use scarves or cloth pieces for different levels if you like.
❤️❤️❤️ Katie i love ur vids! I was wondering if u could do a video on good hip stretches/ how to improve your turnout because i have naturally tight hips, great video as always!
I have a turnout video from AGES ago, but I should update that one. I will work on it! The stretching and flexibility routine might help you too. Here it is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v0OzPShRHgM.html
YES! For 9 years as a kid, I danced ballet, and no one EVER told me to place my weight more on the balls of my feet. Now that I'm back in class, at 40, it;s one of the first things I learned! I find trying to "stay off my heels", I can balance SO MUCH MORE.
me with my several-year-old nail polish that looks yellow as cooking oil: ;-; i actually learned about burning the edges of fraying cloth/threads from one of my grandmothers who owns a clothing shop. I saw her doing it to some thread as a little kid and asked her why she was doing it, and she told me. now, i'm glad that my knowledge will be useful :)
The clear nail polish on the ends of pointe shoe ribbons works sooooo well! I think it would also be beneficial to put them on the sides of the ribbons right above where you sew them to the shoe; mine have started to fray there, probably because my ribbons are constantly getting pulled. I am definitely going to try the leg strengthening and hip loosening tips next time I go to class, thanks so much Katie! ❤
So F-ing helpful. Thank you so much! I’m an adult beginner and I’ve been gritting my teeth and wearing the tights because they are warm and keep me all tucked in, but I admit I was not a fan of the tummy roll. Im so happy there is something to do about it.
Thank you! I did actually - it is included in the same video as the pas de deux. Here it is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OhF9JV7OON4.html
The first time I was on pointe we had people that had experience help us learn how to tie them and we had to burn the ribbons and the girl set the ribbon on fire😂😂
Thank you so much for the tights tip. Even my non dance tights feel too tight at the top, despite the fact that I have a tiny waist, so I usually don't wear them because of that.
So most of the stuff on your channel is pointe related, I can't wait to go en pointe so I can use these tips too (wish me luck next class im going to discuss pointe with my instructor !!)
katie, thank you for your generous sharing of knowledge. It helps me not only in dancing also in my daily life i.e. the jealousy video and when life go crazy video.
I just get tights one size up so that they sit right on or even slightly above my waist, also in the ones my size I wouldn't be able to breathe at all :D
Hi Kathryn, can please do a video on endurance. How do you build endurance without building the wrong muscles? I find I always run out of energy in my allegro. Thanks :)
Can you address the issue of how to live with, work through and learn from injuries? I have been practicing yoga for 6 years and have coped with various injuries (mostly NOT yoga related) I had to learn to practice equanimity while I was healing. Also cross training (Swimming and walking) helped me stay fit when I had to back off a little from my practice. I would find it interesting to hear your thoughts 😌
Great video. Would hack number 10 be good for strengthening ankles in general? I'm not a dancer, I'm about as graceful as a turnip. But, I have repeatedly torn ligaments in my ankles through Softball and to a lesser extent, netball. The exercises my physio has given me are good, but I'm not feeling a huge improvement at the front of my ankle joint.
Ah, I wish I had access to something like this as a young dancer. I remember being a young 15 year old...15 ish years ago (GAH!) and struggling with a lot of these things! haha
i think i heard that for banging the noise out of your pointe shoes, you can put them on and do degagés so they mold to your feet AND bang the noise out
I've had to do the foot thing where you pick stuff up since I was little because I'm flat footed(I have no arch) my mom made me do that when I was little to help correct it and signed me up for ballet to combat it along with my pigeon toedness as well. Lol my feet were just a mess when I was little
Watching all these videos of ballet performances among other stuff is intimidating. I am in my late teens and am interested in starting ballet. I don't want to go pro but it's somehow still very intimidating. Excited to at least try. Also I'm crazy nervous. Does anyone have any tips or just comments on suggest I should know before starting?
I am an older dancer, and moving house - also dealing with long term recovery from two fractures in shoulder. I will not be able to attend classes for many weeks. These tips will be fantastic to help my fitness. Can you recommend the best exercises to do on my own, to help with strength and flexibility, that will hopefully, enable me to return to class in 2018?
Honestly when I started ballet I was so terrified about the tights because they looked so small! Like a toddler’s pants. I’m so glad I tried them on and stretched in them because they got more comfortable
Hi Kathryn, I want to start more ballet training next year (I’ll be 15) but I’m not on pointe and I’ve had very little ballet training. What do I need to do to become the absolute best dancer I can possibly be?
