01:15 Countries offering digital nomad visas
SafetyWing Digital Nomad Insurance: safetywing.com?referenceID=traveleconomics&Ambassador
Bali (Indonesia)
If you are checking news about digital nomads you have probably come across this new digital nomad visa being launched for those willing to move to Bali, in Indonesia.
The island of Bali, which is already known for being one of the most traditional digital nomad hubs, just launched its new digital nomad visa, and let me tell you, it is a pretty good one.
Latvia
Latvia is the most recent country in the European Union which is also part of the Schengen area to have launched a digital nomad visa.
It is important to mention that the digital nomad visa in Latvia is only opened to citizens which are part of the OECD, which includes the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and some other countries, which are 34 in total.
The financial requirement for the Latvia digital nomad visa is to earn slightly above 2800 euros per month. This financial requirement is very similar to other European countries offering digital nomad visas like Estonia and Croatia.
Italy (Venice)
Italy is the first country in our list today which does not have its digital nomad visa already launched, although the government is discussing a legislation to attract high-income remote workers from outside the EU to the country.
While the country doesn’t launch its digital nomad visa, the city of Venice has decided to act faster than the national government, creating an initiative to attract digital nomads today.
The city has launched a portal called Venywhere, aimed at attracting digital nomads to the city.
It offers a range of services to remote workers willing to relocate to Venice, including visa and residence permit consultations.
Albania
Albania is another European country that is opening up for digital nomads. After a huge overhaul in its immigration policies last year, it is now much easier to get a residence permit in Albania if you are not only a digital nomad, but also a retiree or if you just want to start a business in the country.
The government is planning a legislation especially aimed at digital nomads, but, as of today, there is no official date for the release of the digital nomad visa in Albania.
Romania
The main requirement to get the Romanian digital nomad visa is to earn 3 times the average gross Romanian income per month. This translates to roughly 3300 euros per month as of today. You also need to be working for a company outside of Romania and provide a clean criminal record to apply.

Spain
Spain is another European country that will launch a digital nomad visa soon. While the digital nomad is not yet taking applicants, the country is likely to launch its program before the end of the year.
There are a number of details which still remain unclear, but some news regarding the Spanish digital nomad visa seem very positive.
Ecuador
Ecuador is leading the race in South America when it comes to digital nomad visas, as it was the first country in the region to have a fully established program for remote workers in 2022.
The income requirements are pretty flexible in Ecuador. You need to show you have been earning at least 1275 USD for the previous 3 months to the application or north of 15300 USD for the past year.
Colombia
While the digital nomad is not yet launched in Colombia, it has been on the works in the Colombian government, and is likely to be similar to the option available in Ecuador.
The Colombian digital nomad visa is expected to be launched this year or the next.
Most Western passport holders can come to Colombia and stay up to 180 days per year, without having to deal with a lot of bureaucracy, but the digital nomad visa is likely to allow remote workers to stay in Colombia year-round dealing with a minimal amount of red tape.
Brazil
Among the requirements to get the Brazilian digital nomad visa is the income requirement. Currently you should earn at least 1500 USD dollars per month to be eligible, which is definitely less than similar programs in Europe for example. Alternatively, if you have an 18000 USD balance in your bank account, you can also apply. From the financial requirements standpoint, Brazil currently offers one of the most flexible digital nomad visas
Montenegro
Montenegro is the last country of our list of 10 countries launching digital nomad visas. The Montenegro digital nomad visa is still in the making, being discussed by the government since the beginning of the year. The program is due to be launched at some point between 2023 and 2025

Thanks for the video. Now, please do one about countries that are more tolerant (or even accepting!) of black and brown people...

Does México have a digital nomad program? I’m from here lol but I’m curious to know (plus this information could be useful to someone else who reads this comment). Thanks!

There isn't a specific digital nomad visa in Mexico, but there are many residence permit categories that are a good fit for digital nomads wiling to live in Mexico. Gracias y un saludo desde Hungria.

I’m still leaning towards Turkiye and Albania. Any news on Greece? I think living there temporarily would be splendid.
@traveleconomics
@traveleconomics 2 года назад
Greece also has a new digital nomad visa and some decent tax discounts for a few years if you move to Greece. Turkiye is the cheapest, Albania has the lowest taxes.

Awesome content: Please can you confirm if the "Romania Passport for $25,000? European Citizenship For Sale" video doing the rounds are true ?
@traveleconomics
@traveleconomics 2 года назад
Thanks. That's absolutely false. No country in the EU sells instant citizenship anymore. The cheapest country in Europe offering citizenship by investment is North Macedonia and the investment is at least 200k EUR.

I would like to move to Morocco, any thoughts on that one?
@traveleconomics
@traveleconomics 2 года назад
If you are a retiree that would be fine. If you need to establish a business in the country and deal with international clients, I do not recommend it. Morocco has very problematic laws regarding moving money in and out of the country and high corporate tax rates.
