I had the opportunity to work on STTNG for two seasons. During that time I had the opportunity to meet Ricardo Montalban and I can tell you that the pecs were definately real. He had a very strict and strong workout every day, despite being in horrible chronic pain from a spinal injury from an earlier film. One thing I always say when ever anyone asks. He was the lovliest man I have ever met, and on the day he passed, the world lost a living saint.

Nope. The show's producers (Bob Justman and Herb Solow) said in the book Inside Star Trek: The Real Story that the issue was they knew this was Roddenberry's girlfriend, despite the fact Roddenberry was married at the time to someone else. They thought that was unethical, so they said she could not be on it. Period. So Roddenberry put her in a blonde wig. They knew he did it, but just shrugged because she was wasn't the lead any more, just a recurring performer not in every episode.

I think the whole kiss thing is more focused on the white man kissing a black woman, though the others would actually take it as being interracial I think it’s because of the whole race problem in America being predominantly based on African Americans and because of that the kiss is more impactful between Kirk and Uhura. Um, when they talk about "interracial kiss", pretty much they literally mean white person and black person kissing. Pretty sure no one cared if white and Asians kissed by the time of Star Trek. And Desi Arnaz is a white man, a descendant of Europe. If Majel was the problem, and not having a woman in a position of authority, why didn't they find another woman to be Kirk's first officer. After all, it really is dumb that the captain and first officer were always leaving on the away team. Sure Kirk wants his science officer there, and that's Spock.

Perhaps they should have rephrased the kiss legend. Maybe it was the first Black/white interracial kiss on American primetime TV. No way was it the first broadcast interracial kiss period. Besides the examples you mentioned, I have a very strong suspicion 😉 that James Bond also beat Captain Kirk to the punch.

I think the whole deal with the kiss was it was a black woman and a white man as the United States had a weirdly specific thing with racism at the time. A black man would be banned from the musicians union, Still the first black person white person kiss on TV wasn't Star Trek it was on a British soap opera in 64.

As a gay man, I never felt anything was missing. Outside of TOS being TOS, they are usualy a military vessel, and I roll my eyes at any PDA, straight or gay. You don't make out with people at work. That is why they ones that were not Discovery were good, the stories were never them working, unlike that kiss in front of the crew. Again, as a gay dude, I saw them waving their flag there. The TOS episode not included was an okay example, and would have been pretty big back then

Majesty Barrett was recast because she was having an affair at the time with Gene, and the producers wanted to avoid appearances of nepotism. Ricardo absolutely was that ripped. He, throughout his life, kept himself in remarkable shape. Didn't know Alaxander Siddig was Malcom McDowell nephew. Wild.

Ricardo Montalban had been a major Mexican, and American "Artista" (Actor) since the 1940's. He was a personal friend to William Shatner. He was always well-built due to his dramatic action/acting roles, however none had ever called for him to be bare-chested as much as his W.o.K. character, Khan Noonian Singh. He did an Entertainment Tonight interview that aired in the early 80's where he was asked "point blank" if his chest in that movie was prosthetic. He responded heartily, but humbly that he had to do "quite a lot of push-up's to get into that kind of shape". Of course he then reported back to work at "Fantasy Island" as the well mannered & fully dressed Mr. Roark, and then, on to a prime-time soap, "Falcon Crest". Hats off, and Muchos "Saludos" to Don Ricardo Montalban.

Yes, all hail to Roddenberry for creating ST, but if I'm honest, his writing was marginal at best... There was no character development in ST until he was gone. All the characters were 2 dimensional and his plots very predictable... After his death, TNG became a much more enjoyable show to watch. Pardon my blasphemy, but that's how I see it.

I personally thought Khan's chest was fake. not because I didn't think the actor couldn't pull it off but because 1) it was too clean shaven, 2) too uniform in coloring as opposed to the rest of his makeup, and 3) the necklace he wore never really moved which is a standard Hollywood means to coverup the seam for a prosthetic. So, yeah, Makeup artist on set, you did a crap job. You made real flesh look fake SHAME!
