The most fascinating and scary are the stories when people, adults even, disappeared from the company of others in such close proximity. Truly hair raising. Thanks for sharing this.

I'm in the woods a lot and all I can say is keep a weapon and a device that's trackable with you. Also if you're way out and you see other people try not to let them see you. There actually are some people that live out in the wilderness and most of them left society for a pretty negative reason. There are also a lot of people that grow weed or even cook dope and some will kill to keep that secret.

I've hiked and camped dozens of the places rusty does these cases on, yet I'm still here. Besides them rocky mountains can kill anyone any time with something as little as a slip, it's really not that creepy that people vanish in em once you've seen what those places are actually like first hand.

@@jimbob465 When you meet many visitors or watch them, public land visitors that is, you sometimes wonder why the numbers of missing and injured is not higher than it is. I used to make 2,000 - 3,000 visitor contacts per year in the field, not including those I saw at the visitor centers. Between my observations and the questions I was asked I found that a lot of people lacked the skills and knowledge necessary to survive some situations they could get themselves into. I'm retired from the U.S. Forest Service and worked in the field most of my career, successfully avoiding management/desk positions most of my time.
@wannabetowasabe

@Road Rants I don't know why you didn't mention the Sierra Nevada of California, it contains the largest area of Congressionally, contiguous designated wilderness in the continental U.S. I worked in them for just over 20 years after transferring in from New Mexico and two other states I was in during my U.S. Forest Service career.

Do you have anything/information on Elizabeth Mathews. She disappeared back in 1998 in February . She was 48 at the time. She went on a hike near the grand canyon. She( my aunt) worked for USFS as a geologist. She was also a experience hiker and loved the national forest. She has never been found. As of today, she is still missing. She lived in Flagstaff AZ.
@dugclrk
@dugclrk 6 лет назад
Too many experienced hikers/campers don't have basic survival skills and virtually no bush crafting knowledge. That being said most of these cases don't seem to involve getting lost. They seem to just vanish.
@wannabetowasabe
@wannabetowasabe 5 лет назад
I would disagree. When bodies are located, sometimes many years later, the situations can often be reconstructed and poor decisions and accidents are usually the root cause.

i used to be really into solo camping. till one night i was looking for a nice clearing to set up. i had started late and it was getting dark. i started to hearing branches breaking in the distance, the sound of people coming towards me. looking to avoid and interaction with others as i was deep in the park alone i hid. and i see three men walking back with ski masks one and machetes in their hands. as soon as the coast was clear i got the hell out of there.

It has come to my attention by several listeners that Jesse Sgro was found deceased about the same time I uploaded this video. Sgro's body was found in about 12-14 feet of water. His canoe was located on the other side of the lake with all his personal belongings still inside. Thanks to those who updated us on this case. My condolences go out to the friends and family of Jesse. abc11.com/fayetteville-man-missing-in-bladen-county-state-park-found-dead/3342634/

It's strange that his canoe wasn't turned over but they say this.... "A park ranger said Sgro's body was found in the middle of the lake, several hundred yards from a nearby pier, in 12 to 14 feet of water. The ranger said* it appeared Sgro had been struggling to swim*." I wonder what put him in the water to struggle in the first place.

Kepano The work that Rusty does further raises awareness of such phenomenon as unexplained and strange disappearances of our brothers and sister. I’d only wish more and more people were spreading the word and info about this frightening reality we are living in. I highly respect the work of David Paulides but in such subject there is no and can not be a monopoly on discussing such a troubling issue. I do appreciate your comment and I do share your respect for David Paulides dedication and his efforts to shed the light on unexpected missing people cases practically all over the world. I know Russian language and RU-vid has numerous videos on missing people all over Russia that match cases similar to what David Paulides and Rusty discuss. Scary and sad indeed. Rusty , thank you for your site .I am 70 now and spent most of my life in love with the wilderness.I have an internal compass that allowed me to go where I pleased without a second thought. This often baffled others including much more experienced hunters. "where are you going Neal?"Back to the truck of course.The truck isn't that way Neal. When we walked in here this oak tree was on our left. This brought laughter from my companions.You go that way and when you get tired just stop we'll come find you Neal. The twist in this story is that we had parked the truck within 300 yds. of one of their houses !!! I did not have keys to the truck so I just kept on to his house. His wife asked where the others were and I explained. She was a full blooded Seneca and had a good laugh.She declared that I must have some Indian blood and that I had better go find them before dark.When I found them they told me not too tell anyone about this.Too late !Your wife already fed me.........The reason I am telling you this story is that the stories of the missing are heartbreaking, and they make me crazy!!!!! Between you and David Paulides I can't make any sense out of those who disappear. What the hell Rusty?

Sacred Shaman - After reading several books on this phenomena about the missing I've come to think that some it's just bad luck or decisions, some it's intentional, some meet with other human beings that cause their demise and some well something horrific is taking place we've yet to be able explain. Once you compile the mountains of data reports many parrallels and patterns emerge that can't be denied ir dismissed. The similiarites are not coincidences. The subject is vast and the speculation immense. I keep reading.

I know that in several of the missing cases with people ditching their clothes, it's something to do with paradoxical warmness/heat in which in a fit of hysteria in the cold, they suddenly become very warm and strip naked to cool down only to freeze to death. Some of these sound like kidnappings, and while I never want to accuse or suspect foul play of those who came back stating that they don't know what happened, sometimes that's the case. Either way, raising awareness for safety while traversing national parks is commendable and should be promoted.

PLEASE EVERYONE, never go into the wooded hills alone, especially not when camping or in the dark! I now feel that the Predators both known and unknown, are responsible for a huge bulk of the missing, and the rest are missing after being killed by an evil man, or after a fall or exposure. Some get lost, but many who are never found are familiar with the area and are those who spend a lot of time in the woods. I pray that all of the victims are found so their families have closure.

Do you think that the experienced hikers or campers are stalked by whatever this is beforehand ? If they frequent the area often, wouldn't that be an easier target? Whatever it is can get a feel for if it's armed , experienced , etc.

Jason Kyles sounds like he was on psychedelics in order to fix himself and it went horribly wrong. Let's put the facts together: From California. Depressed. Carried items including a birdbath, photos and a guitar. Seen naked and chanting. This guy was definitely out there doing shrooms according to the rules of "set and setting", but for whatever reason had a bad trip or was fooled into doing something that ended up killing him. Probably fell off a cliff or down a ravine or something.

Christopher Thompkins disappearance horrifies me . David Paulides even stated that had he gone over that barbed wire fence himself there would've been skin, or tissue etc. and there was nothing but that fiber. Then another thing you think is why the hell would he just randomly throw his tools in the road and hop this barbed wire fence losing his shoes (another weird fact with these cases) when he was done work for the day just walking with the other men ?

How can someone unclip from a rope that you’re connected to with 2 other people and no one realize it or see you?!! I was skeptical at first when I started watching these disappearance in parks videos, but some of these cases are way too bizarre to think that it’s a reasonable explanation. I spent over half a century tramping around trailheads, up and down the Sierras/coastal ranges and except for a few dog fights no problems but I was super prepared/aware always. These fine times? Well!! Roaming homeless desperate people crowded highways, collapsing biosphere UV thru the roof makes life very precarious indeed!!! Over half a century watching lovely mother nature take a spear before my eyes, recently this grand lady entered hospice ~~ our end is near ~~

Yes. We've had good & bad experiences. We've got pictures of some of the bad. About the good/we have had people armed coming across to warn us & had other's come looking for us and tell us to get out of areas...... etc. This is not a joke....we even went into town in one area because of some incidents in that area and took the photos of suspects up in those parts who said they lived in the area. Nobody knew or recognized them/so if you're a local why do you have to go into the park and use the port a potty several times a day? At one point they drove by and because of my experience and background I had my husband walk up to the edge of the road that runs by where we were sitting. The people who drove by us had parked their vehicle ( get away vehicle) past the tree line out of view and the male subject was walking towards us with a 50 caliber gun and I took photos!

I have been investigating this phenomenon for many years think David Paulides is doing an amazing job. I too believe that ETs are responsible for many of these disappearances. When you look at hundreds of cases bizarre patterns emerge.... bizarre weather-related events, no scent picked up by canines and often this missing is wearing brightly colored clothing. If something was looking down from above bright colors would essentially make that person a target. What else could it be that has such a vantage point?

It is so easy to become lost anywhere. Here is something you need to practice. While walking anywhere every few steps, glance back where you have come from. The lay of the land looks much different when you look back than it does when you are going forward. Also, always note landmarks, both forward and back where you are coming from.

Grand Canyon Park disappearances are some of the most mysterious ones--Most hikers are inexperienced and might accidentally fall off either of the rims (North/South), but there are a few, like Travis Butler, who were good at hiking but still end up gone w/o a trace. :(

That would be far too costly and difficult to achieve due to the vast surface area coupled with uneven terrain , wildlife, and the cost of wiring the entire forest.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Have you every left the city? Do you have any idea of what you are proposing? Do you have any idea of how many cameras would have to be set up to provide continuous coverage of a medium size national park, for example, Yosemite National Park at 780,000 some acres with the type of topography that exists there? This is not some gas station/convenience store environment here.

The case of Jesse Sgro hits very close to home. I never really knew him or any of the Sgros, but they used to live in my neighborhood in Fayetteville, NC just around the corner. They moved about 10 years ago. Theirs is a very big family (Jesse was one of at least 12 children). It's a very sad case like the all the others

According to an article, dated April 14, 2018, by ABC11, Fayetteville, NC: -Jesse Sgro, 22, the man who vanished a week ago at Singletary Lake State Park in Bladen County was found dead Saturday. -Sgro's canoe was found across the lake from his campsite the next morning with his life jacket and cell phone still in the boat. -He was found in the middle of the lake several hundred yards from both the pier and the far shoreline, Katie Hall, a state parks spokesperson said. Sgro's body was found in about 12 to 14 feet of water. Hall said Sgro had removed some articles of clothing, apparently in an effort to swim. -

my thoughts exactly. i dont get how being so close to the road and only being 50ft apart from each other how the two of them never heard or saw anything, especially when the one in the middle looked back a moment later. those woods dont look to thick either. you're spacial awareness would sense someone by the side of you or you'd see something following you. Someone doesnt just disappear moments after he was there. you'd even see cars passing by. The middle one holds the key

I’m excited but at the same time a little skittish because of these videos! Lol. I promise you all that if I feel anything weird while on the trail, I shall persuade my friend to head back right then the way we came. :). I’m just looking forward to taking a few pics and having fun. Rusty you will be first and foremost On my mind! I know that if I disappear and you report on me, you will do it with the utmost respect! :D. hugs everyone.

In a few days I'm going to travel to the Phoenix area for visiting family at Christmas. I feel a little bit less safe there as I do on a midnight, full moon, cross country ski trip in the Sierra Nevada. Far more people disappear in the city than do in remote areas. Most of the time, it is found that these people make some very poor decisions to get themselves into hazardous situations and make even poorer decisions as they try to get out. It seems like the worse the situation the worse the decisions they continue to make. Join groups and clubs in cities that take trips together and provide training for backpacking, cross country skiing, kayaking, etc. Pick up some basic skills, such as map reading, compass use, surviving if an unplanned circumstance comes up and properly equipping yourself for emergencies. There are hundreds of millions of visits made to national parks, national forests, public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, National Wildlife Refuges and similar state lands every year. I know many families that have been fishing, hunting, backpacking, white water rafting, rock climbing for many generations who have never even heard of someone they know running into a problem. How many people have turned up missing when they went shopping at their local grocery store? Do you all stay inside your house and have someone else shop for you as a result?
