I’m becoming concerned Adam is going to be on an upcoming episode of hoarders and the entire episode is them finding and pulling board games out while he cries in the driveway.
As someone who's always had a love for the urban beauty of highway overpasses crossing over rivers like Albany's nasty polluted Hudson... thank you for introducing me to Tokyo Overpass. I've ordered a used copy and I can't wait!
The content of SU&SD with the silky smooth tones of WhatCulture? That's a subscribe right there. (You guys should do a series on bad Games which can be fixed with house rules and homebrew content!! Like Root but its most Points in X Turns, or Strip Monopoly)
Starling Games, the makers of Everdell, are right up the road a bit in Manchester, NH. I'm halfway tempted to take a run on up there and ask them A) why this game is so hard to find, and B) why in the name of the great dice-makers in the sky does this game cost EIGHTY-FIVE GODDAMN DOLLARS.
RU-vid pushed this to me randomly. Instant sub. Inis is my all time favourite game. The card art in Inis is done by world famous Irish artist Jim Fitzpatrick. Growing up in Ireland in the 80's and 90's I remember his art was all over our school textbooks, so I was astonished to see it used in a board game in the 2010's! In fact, at first I thought it must be a copy cat, but was delighted to discover they actually had licensed his art for the game! Thankfully, it's also an incredible game!
Loved that you mentioned the texture of the Wingspan rulebook, haha! Isn't it nice? I have a long list of things I love about Wingspan, and the quality of the rulebook paper is one of them!
That was beautifully wonderful. The graphic design nerd in me is satisfied. Still, most of these are chill, stroll in the park games about appreciating nature. Are there violent/adventurous games that also has great but ungaudy artwork?
My friend has a copy of Everdell, played it once and I can confirm it is a beautiful game with bits of worker placement and engine building included. I loved this game so so much.
I just played my first game of Everdell today Gorgeous game, took a minute to really get cooking but once we figured it out I completely bought into it. 10/10
I went online first thing after watching this video and FOUND photosynthesis in stock in my country. It's not even localized here! it's astonishing. Probably the best recent purchase. Thank you
Just discovered this channel. Nice picks. I bought Inis for art alone, unfortunately, I didn't love the game. I agree about the Wingspan rulebook. Some unmentioned games I'd toss in: Root / Vast (same artist), Mariposas, and Sagrada.
Thank you so much for this list. I have Wingspan and Parks, which I love very much. So happy to see them appreciated by others too. Beautiful games and beautiful experiences!
A trip where you go to national parks is actually very affordable especially a circle trip of southern Utah and Northern Arizona (you drive in a circle and hit each of the parks such as arches, bryce, zion, grand canyon, petrified forest).
Oh yeah, the Everdell-frustrations are real. Keep waiting for that one call of my game store. It almost feels like a pregnancy. Games that I would add: Santorini (not a big fan of the game, but god those cards are pretty), Caper (so stunning, so whimsical!) and Isle of Cats 🐱
Hi Adam; Everdell is back in stock in the UK. There are several online shops selling a copy (from Zatu to Bad Meeple - I mention these two as I have used them in the recent past) 😀
I was melting down with fear throughout the video that Everdell wasn't going to be included. Glad it came out Basically On Top. I would put in a vote for any of the new editions of Brass.
such a fun list! some of my favs: Raiders of Scythia, new Pret-a-Porter, Oceans, Feudum, Fae, Elevenses, Codex Naturalis, Cosmic Frog, Santa Monica, Remember Our Trip! Nunami!! 🤓
Bosk, Root, Wingspan, Everdell, Parks, Cupcake empire, Planet, Tokaido, Scythe, Modern art Oink games edition...in no order..if i had to choose it would be root
Love that you included Parks! Only you forgot to mention one thing, I have never had such a satisfying experience putting a game back in its box before this. At the very least, Parks raised the bar for storage design
Kingdom Death shoulda been on this list.... sure it's got horrific looking monsters but they are the best looking horrific looking monsters there are in anything ever. Nightmares have never looked so good.
I absolutely LOVE when You go into a rage tantrum about the competitive nature of a specific game. Throwing swear words and pointy middle fingers into a thorough informative explanation is just pure gold! You have +1 new subscriber.
I'd maybe have Sagrada over Azul - there is just something about the vibrant translucent dice in that game that just really catches the eye. Not sure I'd call that ship game beautiful, but I can see why it'd go on a list for games with table presence, though even then I'd maybe have put Rhino Hero Super Battle over it (arguably a bit close in aesthetic to Tokyo Highway?) If it was a table presence list, I'd be curious if Colt Express or Potion Explosion would make the cut - they're not beautiful, but they do catch the eye
Did you read a few threads in BGG about how many board game visuals nowadays prefer beauty over function? One of the examples they gave is Brass' board redesign is harder to read compared to previous version. That somehow lead them to that conclusion. The visual aspects of the game never entered into my decision to play a game, but to bring the game into my collection, yes.
Holy crap! You do vids on things other than wrestling and they happen to be about my favorite hobby as well?? Subbed!! Btw have about 5 games on this list 😊
As the video went on I was thinking about leaving a comment to mention Parks and Everdell as beautiful games to check out - and there you go chucking them in at 1 and 1.5. Good stuff. Instead I'll throw out an honorable mention for Ecosystem. Really gorgeous little drafting game with lovely nature-based artwork. I don't know many people into board games and wrestling. When this pandemic blows over we should play some games Adam - I'll let you have a go on my copy of Everdell 👍
2:54 "These weighty plastic chips" while showing the cardboard tokens... Adam is referring to the player tokens, which indeed are plastic (and metal) and weighty indeed, so that is a really bad b-roll for the statement
5:47 ADAM: *MAN,* I really wanna go to Japan... Dear Trash Taste Podcast... *PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE,* invite Adam Blampied as your guest... it would mean the *WORLD* to me.
what if you're fascinated by these games but have never played them before, and want to learn to play them but you're autistic so it's difficult interacting with new people (or the people at the nearest game store aren't receptive to newcomers)?
Some REALLY beautiful games out there are: Simurgh Call to adventure Era the medieval age (top 1 to paint as it gives infinite freedom) Runebound Escape from atlantis (1986, also super when paint) Core space: first born Lords of Ellas World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Destinies Junk art Bastion (i also wanted to eat the mana as it looks very tasty) Spartacus: A Game of Blood and Treachery Medina Kleos cleopatra and the society of architects (top nuts in looks) and who knows how many more out there!!! Board games really are next level hobby these days
Nice list but for sure you are missing Tang garden. I know this is your list and beauty is subjective but if you're going to put photosynthesis, Tang garden takes that and makes it even more beautiful with more 3D decorations, landscapes and adds a Chinese theme. I also used to include photosynthesis in my own most beautiful but now I can't look at it without feeling a bit disappointed in comparison to Tang Garden.
Personal opinion (call me basic): spectacle - Teotihuacan, overall art style - anything by Ian O'Toole or Kyle Ferrin, you know, Ride the Rails, Escape Plan, Black Angel, Root, Fort... But am very happy to see Parks at number 1! Good job Adam ☺️
I enjoyed tis video, thanks. Buuuut... Shouldn't it be called "10 Most beautiful Board Games that are currently available via our Affiliate Links"? Misleading titles are annoying.
My first video from this channel. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this video as much as I did! Also, your comment about wanting to take a vacation you can’t afford after playing PARKS is so true. Just booked yesterday a trip to Sequoia National Park, just a couple of weeks after playing the game lol.
Santorini, Ghost Stories, Krosmaster Arena, Takenoko, Blood Rage every time we play them I always get questions. That lotus game I didn't know ill grab a copy. Thanks
