In my opinion, I rather give up space and other low living costs, to be able to live in a large city. So even if I can work remotely, I will not give up my costly city life. I currently live in OC California and I miss very much West LA. I'm planning to move back as soon as I can.
In Ireland if everyone can move further out of Dublin it'll be a dream for dubliners, I can't afford anything anymore despite great education, job.. It's beautiful in the countryside here
I really like the fact that the narrator, whoever she is with certainly one of the most beautiful voice I've heard, doesn't butcher the pronunciations of cities.
As a local Hong Konger, living here only touches your heart when you are the rich and super rich. You can live at the Peak or South side to enjoy the most breathtaking views of the mountains and sea while enjoying the most exotic food HK's famous for. While most of the ppl overcrowding at home, at subway, at work.... can barely breath, think, feel and live properly.
@@franciscodaniellopezfiguei5713 are you joking spain is very beautiful and culturally so interesting but nordic and western cities in Europe are the most expensive to live in, not necessarily better but definitely higher salaries and cost of living
Thanks for the informative video but I think you should have mentioned an average salaries as well for comparison. That would give us the idea of purchasing power of an individual.
Yeah, I don't know what data they used at all for London and Sydney to not be included. Property rental is notoriously over priced in both aforementioned cities.
@@TheKh65 Yeah I agree - lived in Sydney and I'm surprised that any of Scandinavian cities wasn't on the list! I live in Reykjavik and I think only Hong Kong outperformed it...
@@alux that's your opinion but I travel most of this cities . West Vancouver BC . Paris are expensive . I would love to say San Francisco will break your bank . Shits everywhere in bay area . But I miss San Francisco .
Hi 👋 As a Japanese! Tokyo is not expensive city. I’ve traveled 11 countries and Perth and Sydney were really expensive!! I think it’s depends on your budget :) Anyway, have a lovely day ☺︎
Something's off about this video in terms of Quality...The sound, video quality, background music, and the pace of the video...all seem off. I like the overall content that Alux provides to me and believe me, it does help...but something is off this time.

Hong Kong, Singapore and Osaka are joint leaders on the Economist Intelligence Unit's 2020 Worldwide Cost of Living Survey. Please correct me if i'm wrong..
I’m confused at how London isn’t on this list. The cheapest rental will be about $3000 a month and that’s not right in the centre! Parking is $60 a day in Knightsbridge... I mean... yeah 🤷🏻♀️
I live in Celebration. My goal is to get to Golden Oak. Disney's no slouch, folks. It's a perfect nirvana here. Everything is so perfectly organized, with a place for everything and everything in it's place. Nobody is on top of one another. I have been around the world. Disney did it right. They are also masters of sight lines. Once you are on property, nothing else exists, EXCEPT for where you are at. If you are in Disney Springs, you don't see anything else. The same goes for Hotel Plaza Blvd., Torrowland, Mc Donalds, etc... You get the picture. It isn't exactly cheap to live here, either. What do you all think of a two bedroom apartment costing about $1,600 a month? A glass of red wine can easily be $15. A t-shirt is about $25. A dozen eggs (for the good kind) can be $5. Etc... Anyhoo, I love it here, and its worth every penny. It's quiet. Gorgeous. A ton of amazing wildlife. Really, the perfect place to live, IMHO.

I went to Istanbul when i was 16 with my family, and we've decided to never go there. People are horrible there as well as there are very less places to roam about, you're more likely to get robbed and drink useless tea.
Shatakshi Sharma I’ve been there twice, went there last year as well. It’s extremely pretty and there’s a lot to do but it’s really crowded. But then again everyone has there own opinion.
@@harisahmed3771 im american, born and raised, pls you guys just judge people by their names, my mom is white and my father is Indian, btw my opinions are still same, it's a shitty place, where anybody can easily get robbed, everything is affordable that's the plus point, but admit it it's small. Well, i have visited mumbai, actually it's my dad home, it's definitely crowded, but if you have money in your pocket everything's worth it, but did i mention that i was particularly talking about Istanbul not mumbai. I wasn't even trying to be mean. My family has experienced it, so i typed it. It's just my opinion so you need to chill out
Move to Japan, I'm in Atsugi, right outside Tokyo. Cheap food, Cheap Housing, Cheap public Transportation, Clean, Clean, Clean, People have pride. I cannot wait for me and my wife to move here.
Cost may be relative to income. Some cities may have lower prices but the local income is even lower. My nearby city is not on this list but it is on the list of the most difficult to earn rent money.
7:18 Nonsense, Swiss people are never happy..😅 we have almost every second saturday some demonstrations in the city centre.. you cant eaven go peacefully shopping on a saturday afternoon because its like entering a war-zone in the shops and sometimes hundreds of people will demonstrate outside again for something (and they do it on a regular base, its like a freetime activity for some of our citisens). Often there use to be a full parade with police and hundreds of demonstrants and they use to block down the full streets and the public transports in the city centre. Sometimes for hours.. And then you have to sit (or worser stand!) and wait on the station, until the trams can drive again, or you can WALK. Last time i unfortunatley walked straight INTO a Demo with two hands full of heavy grocery shoppingbags, just trying desperatley to get out of the chaos somehow.. Thats why we have such good chocolate: to soothe our nerves! 😉
Ha Ha Ha! I know what you mean! It's like they have brainstorming sessions about "OK, now what can we complain about? Dirty city..nah.....high crime...hmmm, nope...oh wait how about pollution or environment issues??....dang, no... I got it!.... unemployment just went over 2.5%!!!! Let's hit the streets!!!" Lived in both Geneva and now Zurich, more manifestations happen there. I think it is because of the close proximity of UN....they think they'll be heard I guess.
I don't understand why some people are complaining because their city is not in the list. I live in New York City, believe me is not funny to leave in an expensive city.
I have a question about billionaires please. If billionaires don't have their billion dolllars sitting in a bank account rather in forms of investments and assets, then how do they get the cash to pay for something if they like for example a sports car or a house ? All their money is in the form of assets that make more capital, so how would they get cash if they want ?
With a Hong Kong Rant you can build a one room house in South Africa or three rooms at your back yard if you already have a house... or just buy yourself a second hand car, old toyotas or vw polo... Lol And it is equal to our annual salaries...
Chiba and Saitama are not factored as part of Tokyo when determining geographic area. The Tama section, however, IS. Factoring Chiba and Saitama into Tokyo is like factoring in Anaheim and Huntington Beach as part of Los Angeles.
I enjoyed the exercise, but my brain had difficulty translating. I'm a native New Yorker. A gallon of gas, the cost of milk, eggs, bread as a 'unit', rent, average salary, average single payer taxes would have gone a long way to help me figure out "expensive." (i'm a home owner/landlord and I don't buy 'designer' jeans so I struggled with this list!)
Alux.com Your's is the best RU-vid channel out there. So much informative with amazing facts and knowledge. Keep it up 👍 Would really like to work with your team once in this lifetime 😉
@Alux.com How San Francisco didn’t make this list is insane. A family of four with a combined income of $138,000 annually is considered low income in that city. I live in San Jose California which is an hour south and it is not any better. We have people out here spending $800,000 on a three bedroom house that was built in the 1970s. New home starts off at $2 million
I would like to live in tokyo , because it is a very beautiful modern city , and you can go to villages and see the natural scenery in any time , In addition to, there's the city of anime and manga " Akihabara"
Before watching this video: Hong Kong is definitely no.1 After watching this video: Yay! Hong Kong is no.1! How did I survive living in this city? Oh wait, I was born here so I do not have a choice
the purchasing power of the dollar is different in different cities and therefore the list should take into account the median income of the city to justify how expensive it is in reality for the residents. For example rent in Mumbai would be 500 dollars per month whereas for similar property in Dublin would fetch 2 times that. Also the rent fetched per month would be 0.5% of the price of the property in Dublin while getting only 0.2% in Mumbai where the earnings are at least 4 to 5 times less as well. Comparing like that on relative terms would also get the lower cost of living cities per world average also into this list as it would still be too expensive for their residents.
