Marvel's and the Fantastic Four's greatest villain has often been the Earth's only hope. For more awesome content, check out: whatculture.com/ Follow us on Facebook at: / whatculture Catch us on Twitter: / wc_comics
the Name he chose: "Valeria", it sounds a lot like "Latveria" meaning that Doom Named Reed's Daughter after Doom's Home, it shows that he cares about his' people
Dr Doom isn’t really a villain he’s just a main antagonist to the FF and disagrees with their view points. He actually has a decent code of honor and seeks to fix the world albeit through his control. Emperor Doom proves all of this which is why I love that story. World hunger ends, wars end, crime as a whole is pretty much gone. In other words, there is order and it works. It set the precedent of the ethical question “Whats the real value in freedom?” that would go on to be explored in numerous titles.
@@olofacosta3192 not all Tyrants are bad. Peace through Tyranny is a real thing and it has happened before. It was rebels and their stupid desire for “freedom” that ruins society. True Freedom is the same as True Chaos
Love how they blur the lines between hero and villain. Reed Richards a hero has done many villainous things. Whereas Doom the villain has done numerous heroic acts.
Doctor Doom is one of the most complex and misunderstood characters in the marvel universe. His means are always at an end and everything he does is in the best interest of humanity. I hope the movies one day capture the character well.
I love the way Doom can kind of play on any side, like in Infinity War where he realized Thanos was too crazy and too powerful and teamed with the good guys to stop him. He did screw everything up by trying to take the gauntlet for himself but atleast unlike Mephisto who also saw that even though their evil Thanos is bad news or everyone, good and bad, Doom actually did something while Mephisto was like 'I want you guys to win but Thanos is the most powerful so I'm going to do my best to convince him I'm on his side'
If I remember correctly, there were also a handful of times where Doom did the right thing BECAUSE it was the right thing to do & not because it benefits him.
It didnt END well though. The idea of a reformed Dr Doom fighting the Ultimate Reed Richard is such a perfect idea that I cant believe they flubbed the ending by making it Mephisto all along.
@@guccifer764 eh...Mephisto is a major antagonist of Doom's, so it makes sense he could be the heavy, and knew impersonating Reed would be a legitimate tactic. I just didn't think it every rose above ok. Whereas, when Chip was writing a "good" Doom, it felt more like he could slip back at any moment, even though he was trying to be good. It worked.
No poverty, the protection of orphans, widows and the dispossessed. He will fight the devil (and has) to a standstill, is a powerful wizard and is so good at his job that people beg for him back when the Fantastic Four try to put someone in his place? A bright day is Doom's Day. (Held whenever he wants, every year.)
I hope we get Doom for years to come in the FF-MCU reboot, hes one of my favourite villains from Marvel, and he alone should stay alive like a true comic book antagonist should do.
Victor Von Doom took out his future self in Iron Man #250 because he was disgusted with how weak he had become and totally dependent on life-support armour to eke out the remainder of his life.
Dr. Doom is absolutely the BEST Supervillain in comics ever! They can introduce Doc Doom in the MCU as an antihero and move covertly to sponsor the Masters of Evil to do the Under Siege arc (good luck to Doc finding a real challenge to do battle with Capt. Marvel), then set up Emperor Doom or Secret Wars.
Woah, you got his motives mixed up, it’s not just about power, has seen every ending to every timeline across infinite multiverses, he’s the only character to have seen beyond even the multiverse gods to the Omniverse. In every ending, the only one that survives is one that is Doom, his dictatorial control over earth is the only thing that saves ALL OF EXISTENCE from eventual collapse.
Yeah i remember seeing that. Doom saw all the possibilities and he's the only one that can rule the earth and save it. Its like he's destined to rule the world.
He is a villain but he's not evil lol, he just thinks that the world is in better hands when he rules it. Which is actually true! The only safe timeline is where he actually rules the world, plus he's that type of villain where if he sees you he won't do anything because you haven't done anything to him, neither does he want anything from you, because you don't know him and he doesn't know you, plus he has actual humanity, it's just not obvious.
I'm not going to stop saying this anytime soon: Jules' sincere messages at the end of the video have made me love his presentation. It carries through to the rest of his videos, too.
If he's not the antagonist, he's the protagonist. If he isn't fighting the heroes to take over the world, he's helping them save the universe. If he's despised even by his mother, he's content that people won't stand his evil.
Doom and Magneto are the best villains because they have some qualities that are noble which makes you feel their plight like Killmonger in the Black Panther movie. Sometimes they are not villains at all!
I can imagine Doom seeing a future version of himself gets to rule in a way he wouldn't have done it made him furious that anyone (even a future version of himself) actually showed him up.
Doctor Doom battled an ancient evil in MARVEL TEAM UP #43-44 (Ma-Ap'76). He shot Captain America's shield into space to prevent the Badoon from getting it in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. He even had his own solo series in ASTONISHING TALES #1-8 in 1970-71!
awesome look at a character I didn't know that much about, and always appreciate the positive words at the end of your videos Thanks! and keep up the great work Jules!! :)
just a shame you didnt include the next panel when Doom is speaking to Valeria, 'know you have my protection, anyone who seeks to harm you shall court the wrath of Doom'
I will point out for the number 1. Strange could have taken the power first and even stated that he didn't want it. Doom took it second because someone had too.
Looking at the comments. Guys, Doom’s a villain, he’s done some good things but let’s not pretend he never willingly and knowingly committed the atrocities that he did, that’s just psychotic. Take that from a dude with a Doctor Doom pfp, lol.
I think a lot of people see a villain with good qualities and then just automatically consider them an anti hero, even if the bad vastly outweighs the good.
Ummm. Doom already reverted back to evil in Ultimate Iron Man! Maybe you could have mentioned he tried to save to planet from Reed’s mistakes in the new Doctor Doom comics. He reverted back and in the new Doctor Doom comics (which you actually have pictures of in here...) he tries to be good and then *spoilers* goes full blown evil and even states so in the comics that he is always going to be evil. **spoiler spoiler** He ‘heroically’ saved his world by sacrificing another. He destroyed an entire parallel world where had two young sons, Constin and Doru who he was fond of and his wife Fruzsina who he even claimed to love. Heroic at a cost.
After all the failed attempts to bring Doom to the big screen, we desperately need to see his origin story brought to the MCU...before they try to introduce the FF.
Doctor has literally annihilated an entire universe, quadrillions of sentient people, just because that universe's Reed Richards insulted his costume. Anti-hero's don't do that. Doom is definitely a villain.
Imagine having this complex, interesting character and saying "So hear me out, what if we make him a Computer Programmer and change his name to Domachev? Everyone will _love_ that!" when asked to put him in the 2015 movie and then wondering why the movie bombed.
Hickman's (and the various artists') work on: Fantastic Four, Future Foundation, Avengers, and New Avengers, all culminating in Secret Wars is one of the best comic book runs.
About the young woman "requirements" thing for Marvel Zombies I legitimately don't know what that refers to. (Well, I have an ideax but I don't remember that being a thing)
Why wasn't his nearly abolishing crime in Latveria mentioned on this I mean sure his methods to doing so was basically marshel law with doom bots taking lethal measures against law breakers but is that really any worst than half the stuff MCU iron man has done
i do agree that dooms future where the world is at peace, perfect peace, no fear, want, or hatred is the best future, but there is just one thing he did, that i cannot allow him to live, he killed my parents, and dont think im copying magnet from x-men first class, mostly i plan on doing FAR more pain to doom in his death
Yeah but number one on this list he also did some rather horrific things to the fantastic four and allowed evil characters to control territories that could be seen as actual hells.
Doctor Doom is pretty much the #1 Marvel villain. Also on a kind of unrelated note I think the 2015 Secret Wars should be titled Secret Wars 3 because it is the third comic with that title and we can finally say Secret Wars if we are referring to the 1984 comic and Secret Wars 3 when we are referring to the 2015 run.
I really can't read Iron Man anymore because Doom's run as the hero was infinitely better on every level. Brian Michael Bendis pulled no punches at making you really believe that Doom was really becoming heroic.
You glossed over the 'Saved baby Valeria' part. The baby had actually died before, even with the help of Reed Richards, Bruce Banner, Michael Morbius, Walter Langkowski, and Otto Octavius. They all could not solve the complications that occurred due to the conception having occurred in the Negative Zone. Well, because of Franklin Richards and some circumstances involving the multiverse and time, Sue was pregnant again with the same baby and having the same problem. Dr. Doom saved the child using a combination of Magic and Science. Sure, Dr Strange may be a medical doctor but he is no science guy. Strange has even acknowledged that Doom may have become the Sorcerer Supreme had he gone a different path.
What he named their daughter is a name that meant a great importance to doom Valeria is the name of someone who he loved just for anyone who may not have known that
At about four minutes in you talk about Valeria's birth asif she wasn't guaranteed to die? Strange or nobody else could save her I think. Doom was the only one brilliant enough but I could be wrong. I do think they tried looking for help elsewhere first though
