10 Most Odd Planes in the Sky 

I worked at Edgley aircraft in the eighties making the Optica and actually got to fly in the prototype one evening and take the controls for a few minutes

The Optica seems so “right.” I believe a set of courageous investors will resuscitate the design, implement some computer based manufacturing, and finally bring it to market.

So where are the Skyvan, Flying Flea, VFW640, Hansajet, Piaggio Avanti etc? Rutan was a very clever designer but there were and are others.

Colomban Cri-Cri should be on the list. Also many Rutan design could be mentioned, but my favorite is the Scaled Composites 151 ARES Mud Fighter.

Not sure I would use the word reputable with Jabiru. They had a lot of issues with their engines.

Hollee Crap - what nonsense !!! The Jab J43 twin was developed and built in South Africa. It was designed as a cost-effective twin trainer with asymmetric thrust. Only the prototype exists. You do not get extorted by farmers for landing, we have all the normal rules for landing that apply elsewhere in the world, get permission to land on private property. Do not land on a runway with X's at each end. Seriously WTF ??!!

Interesting that so many new aviation company’s seem to have arson happen to them effectively destroying their production capabilities. So many it almost seems beyond coincidence.

The Jabiru did have one great safety feature the engines rarely ever work long another to get airborne.

I built a radio controlled Patchen Explorer airplane about 10 years ago. I still fly it occasionally. Quirky but fun plane.

4:51 that pylon pod engine type leaves alot to be desired in a small plane. I think more practical in multi engine larger type plane situation.
