In fairness I have to agree with the director for Bioshock. Keeping it R18+ would ensure that the movie could properly go through the plot where as if the studio execs got their way and it was made PG13 you would get something completely unrecognisable.
Sadly, by the time the movie was being tossed around, producers had convinced themselves that an R-rates movie was just impooooosible to make money with. By the time deadpool finally proved them definitively wrong, the IP's peak popularity had passed
It could be done with pg-13, it would just be difficult. If it was pulled off, it would likely be better than what they could make with R, but any misstep at all would ruin it, whereas R leaves the director some easy ways to maintain the tone, it just makes the budget harder to work with because studios consider R to be a bigger risk.
I wish it was never conceived, then Tatum might have been Cable. Looks more like him than Brolin, has the physique for it and he can do serious and comedy well.
Tatum would be awful for Cable, for starters Cable is much older then Tatum and Cable is insanely gruff what Tatum isn't plus Tatum is a pretty boy what Cable really isn't. If Tatum has to play a comic book character it should be Shazam as he would be perfect for him.
Yeah, Tatum is a decent actor with the right material, but I don't think he has the chops to play a pre-existing character with a personality so different from his. In my opinion, he just isn't suited to play MOST comic book movie characters, period.
The Simpsons movie came out more than 10 years ago??? Yep just one those moments when you realize that your life is running away like sand between your fingers...
To be fair, People were clamoring for a Tron sequel for years before it actually happened, Tron 3 could definitely take that long. Would it be the same story? Probably not, but it could still be good.
When done right you can actually get away with a lot in a hard pg-13 and the movie is stronger for it, but you really have no margin for error. R would give you wiggle room to properly set the tone and tell the story, but then you have less wiggle room on the budget, because R rated movies are rarely blockbusters now like they were in the 80's and 90's.
I wouldn't mind if they'd just kept making TRON: Uprising. The art style for that all-CGI cartoon was kinda weird, but the story - which took place between Flynn's disappearance in the '80s and the "present" events of TRON Legacy - was pretty good. Sadly, it left off on a cliffhanger after only two seasons, and it's been at least five years since Season 2 ended… :(
1. THUNDER CATS 2. Dark Crystal (reboot) 3. Labyrinth (reboot) 4. He Man (reboot) 5. The Last Star Fighter (Reboot) 6. Legend (reboot) 7. STAR WARS (TLJ) Complete DO-OVER
Please Disney, don't reboot Tron. I'm happy for you to do a semi-reboot, kind of like you did between the first two films, but not a complete reboot please.
Nick Ferrazza Disney should sell the Tron rights... everything they touch turns to shit... they should have stuck to animated movies for little kids. Tron has a great potential.
Because the fact that Murray didnt like the scripts for Ghostbusters 3 Dan wrote the Ghostbusters game and then Harold, Bill, and Dan all said that wad the 3rd and final "movie" of the trilogy
The problem with that is, you play as a new Ghostbuster but (from what I've heard) you're basically rehashing the first two movies' plots. It doesn't actually work as an honorary third "movie".
Flutterbutt225 no you actually go to hell and have to fight your way out with the original 4. The beginning of the game you try to capture the librarian and it goes wrong and well you go to hell
Definitely missing the Akira and Cowboy Bebop movies. I've heard they're trying to go ahead again with Akira but I've been hearing that since the late 90s.
Olive add batle angel alita that james cameron has been hinted at for years or the live action version of robotech where toby (spiderman) maguiere has the name only rights to
Ghost in the Shell was fine. You could see the nods to the Puppeteer story all through it. You actually don't want a "faithful" movie adaptation, because it would be shit, and you'd be sad. That movie was pretty clearly setting up for a sequel too, only Batou got anything like enough screen time for what should have been an ensemble movie. Also, no movie goer who isn't already a fan of GitS is going to sit through 20 - 30 minutes of metaphysical musings on the nature of life and conciousness as an ending, anime / manga is the natural home of the longer stories in that world.
That's what I was thinking. Since It made so much money I think Hollywood might be less gun shy about R-ratings. At the very least maybe they'll stop churning out shitty PG-13 horror movies.
Bioshock doesn't need to be a r-rated film, but it doesn't need to a Disney film either. With how badly studios screw up game movies (and anime by the looks of it) I'd rather not, they have source material to work with and they still go wrong. I think most games would work better as a tv (or Netflix) series, especially RPG games. I say a series because of the detail that gets left out of films, I mean Prince of Persia Sands of Time spent the last 30mins with the Sands of Time, it hardly appeared before like what?? They were looking to make a Metal Gear Solid and Mass Effect film at one time, so glad they didn't. Although I haven't seen it yet, I have heard the recent Tomb Raider is good, so perhaps there's hope for game movies after all???
What's interesting, What Culture, is that you mentioned the "Confederacy of Dunces" curse; eeriely similar is the equally cursed screenplay "Atuk", based on the 1963 novel " The Incomparable Atuk" by Mordecai Richler. Both screenplays had the same actors tapped to play the main characters, who then died, and both are avoided at all costs by Hollywood because of alleged curses. I had never heard of the one you mentioned, so at first I thought you had it wrong, but I looked both of them up and noticed the similarities. Creepy, huh?
Jadara Hino lol, I had the same reaction. I thought he was talking about Atuk, and I just remembered the name wrong. Didn't realize there were 2 different movies with basically the same curse
One that keeps getting my hopes up is "Logan's Run." I love the classic movie but I think that Hollyweird could really do it justice with the awesome special effects available today.
COWBOY BEBOP. although, I sincerely hope Hollywood won't ever touch that. Particularly not after what they've done with Ghost In The Shell, Death Note, and soon to be, Your Name.
I haven't seen these films, refuse to touch Netflix's Death Note but from what I've seen Hollywood doesn't seem to understand anime, they then try to blend American culture with Japanese and fail. It's a shame Anime isn't taken as serious as it should be. I've only really started watching anime this year but already I find it usually has greater quality over most popular US shows, but it's animated so "it can't be for grown ups" yet these same grown ups will watch Family Guy and South Park?!?!?!
Yep between "Harold Raimi" and "Garnet Hedlund", I think this vid came from a parallel universe. I hate it when RU-vid presenters can't even pronounce the names of the things and people they're talking about. #unprofessional
It's just whatculture bait. He intentionally yells nerds then proceeds to intentionally add "easter eggs" to trigger said nerds. It's his shtick. Overdone but essential to whatculture. I like it but then again, I tend to just listen to whatculture as background noise as I work.
I would love to see a Tron 3. I really enjoyed Tron: Legacy and found the original movie to be entertaining. And let's not forget how amazing the show was.
One day, maybe Kevin Smith will have enough ideas to make a Clerks 3, although I think it'll be a very different film to the one everyone expects if it does happen
Don't lose hope. This video came out a year ago, when I was still mourning the seemingly dead Freddie Mercury/Queen biopic that was going to star Sacha Baron Cohen. Yesterday I saw the trailer for the 2018 Queen film starring Rami Malek, and it looked promising. I _loved_ The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. It's easy to picture as a film during our current comic book film mania. "Confederacy of Dunces" is always relevant, and Will Farrell would have been great, but I'm superstitious and can't fault anyone for being wary of waking JKoT's cursed mummy. Just as we're all glad the book was published and found it's way to the rest of us, despite him not living to see it, I think we'd feel the same about a film adaptation.
Really ? I used to loved to have a part 2 or reboot. But after all the crap reboots i dont even wanna think of it Poltergeist ...cgi trash🤦🏾♂️ Ghostbusters.. feminist version 🤦🏾♂️ IT ( overhyped and still bad ) Fast furious.. tooo much Blade runner ... mehh Alien covenant .. meh Exorcist series were decent The mist series .. 🤦🏾♂️ weirdo trash. Where are the monsters ?? Its kinda hard to make new movies .. its all super predictable Decent/good movies. It follows , get out, and a couple more
King Conan. Used to argue with folks that would say Arnold couldn't be Conan. Because if age but the final few stories in Howard's series was basically old king Conan
The avatar sequel started filming in September 2017. They have a record breaking 1 billion dollar budget. It's now planned to be 4 more movies, they will be filmed all at once. Filming schedule will continue through 2018 with post production running through 2019 and a release of the first film in 2020 or 2021
The Adventures of TinTin sequel...Peter Jackson said that it's not cancelled and it will happen, but 6 years have passed: No news. I know I can't be the only one waiting for this sequel...
I've heard at least a couple of times over the years that a movie based on William Gibson's novel Neuromancer was being planned. I'm NNEEERRRRRDDDD enough that I would still like to see that.
I guess you could call Manhellton a shitty, probably alcohol-induced but definitely cancer inducing pun-based fictional city name for wankers. #ShittyProbablyAlcoholInducedButDefinitelyCancerInducingPunBasedFictionalCityNameForWankers
The new thing with these movies is to wait a couple of years, after it got pulled, and then make a documentary about how it all went so horribly wrong.
"Star Blazers." In 1974, the animated series "Space Battleship Yamato" debuted in Japan and since became an Anime legend. The (HEAVILY) edited adaptation "Star Blazers" debuted in 1978 and developed a small, but loyal following among the first generation of Anime fans. In 2010, a live-action Japanese version was released and rumors of a live-action American version have persisted since the 1990s. There was even a rumor that Disney had purchased the rights to "Star Blazers;" but nothing solid has ever materialized.
What about the neon genesis evangalion movie, that movie has l itterally been in development he'll for forever, I've even heard that Pacific rim took elements from ideas they came up with for the film.
what about Gremlins 3 and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea movies? Those 2 have been talked about since early 2000s like The Meg was which is finally coming out this year?
Well like you said, a movie isn't made until its made. But recently on Rupaul's podcast, Maria Bamford was asked if she was going to rep rise her role. She said she wasn't at this point because Netflix was moving forward with the movie. She implied this announced 5th season was actually a movie. We'll see though.
Also should add Piers Anthony's Xanth Series which Warner Brothers bought back in the late 1990's and the live action version of "The Last Unicorn" also rumored to be in early production with Christopher Lee reprising his role.
I think an Austin Powers 4 would be awesome. Even if the movie wasn't great, it would bring back the parody type comedy that has sadly died. I know some of y'all will probably say movies like Scary Movie franchise, but they are not the same thing.
Ghostbusters 3 was KINDA made. There was a really good Ghostbusters video game written by Ackroyd and voiced by the original VAs. The plot is genuinely good and many people consider it canon
The Tron 3 movie kills me. Disney sabotaged it's own franchise to focus on SW and Marvel. There is no other explanation as to why you would air an animated series so family friendly at midnight eastern time.
We never got that X-Files 2012 Mayan calendar alien invasion and colonization of earth movie Duchovny wouldn't shut up about. And as much as I liked the look and style of the Dune 80's theatrical version it was still hit and miss. And they had to substitute the Baron Harkonnen's pedophilia with Sting in a space codpiece. By the time the Syfi miniseries came along fantasy films like the Star Wars prequels were too busy playing catch up with The Lord of the Rings visual style. Even John Williams was trying to sound like Howard Shore and the Dune tv films just looked over stylized and tacky. Now that Frank Herbert is dead and his son and his ghost writer have laid waste to the stories another Dune film would be horrible.
Bart S Gremlins 3 would have CGI Gremlins now. I like practical effects. The effects of making the creator rest seem so real is what made the first 2 so good. Now I would only want it if a director that was a fan of the first two and stuck with the same kind of effects would make it. CGI would feel artificial in a movie like that. Plus the two main actors are getting old. I don't know if Howie Mandel stop lol wants to do the Gizmo voice.
Why does everyone want a Bioshock movie? List of other movies people wanted, or made from video games: Doom, Assassin's Creed, Mario Brothers, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Sure some were good, but most SUCKED!
Lycan_Jedi The new tomb raider could be good. If that does well we could get an uncharted movie. Bioshock would be a hard movie to make though considering it’s a silent protagonist, unless they try to make their own story.
Based on what you say about Chronicle 2, I certainly hope it never gets made... Chronicle was a refreshing perspective of superhero movies, the last thing it needs is an "Avengers style connected universe".
i can't believe that they still aren't moving forward with Tron 3..."Legacy" was amazing, did well in the box office, and was one of the only movies that i thought was "actually" worth seeing in 3D...
