But not all mistakes are from being distracted by a cellphone. I've seen the same bikers make reckless moves when they drive their cars. Stress, anger, arguments, all forms of distractions. And a majority of motorcycle accidents can be avoided by not speeding
This video showed several close calls that could have been avoided if the motorcyclist was not speeding and left a much greater following distance. The “PLAN” should always first be to slow down in traffic - the goal is to get to your destination not dodge cars
and dont ever assume malice isnt there....I one had this driver purposely trying to catch up to me and swerving at me for absolutely no reason...the only thing I could think of is that I possibly passed him?
Most of these near misses are due to the bikers undertaking at speed, you should never pass a vehicle on the right (left UK), if you do you must be extremely carful and go slow leaving enough breaking distance. I think most could be avoided if they just slowed down and left more space.
second one was terrifying. One time I was riding down hill and an audi q5 just started driving straight at me out of nowhere, there were cars parked to my right so I was pretty fucked but I quickly downshifted to first and progressively hit the brakes and about 15 feet away they swerved back. I had to pull off the road and decompress for a few minutes.

@@loftyintentions1985 I get no revelations from these videos that I do not have already as an experienced rider. But I find them entertaining and amazing to see just how stupid and ignorant so many riders are.
First clip is a great example of paying attention to your surroundings. You won't always be able to dodge stuff like this, but a quick reaction can help you avoid stuff like things. Anticipate, what IF the person on my left would merge over on me.
i love your breakdown of the oil dripping in the middle. but one thing most dnt understand, the air under a vehicle is the same relative difference as the car to the air above. so the oil drip moving 70mph suddenly falling into static air will dissapate most of it over a spread area. nt just under the center
In the Netherlands, it’s illegal to pass on the right. You can also get fined for going slow in the middle or left lane. So everyone always sticks to the right and passes on the left. Would have prevented a lot of these crashes!
It's common sense and I ride like that in any vehicle. I would always move into the left lane if there was any vehicle pulled over to the shoulder just to give myself a little more wiggle room if something happened, like a pet dog running out
5:00 Middle middle middle is really fine, and any rider should train with that line as well as with others. My favorite may still be (for a left turn) Right, Middle and Left only when you see ahead of the curve for late apex and a good throttle exit :p
I’m not sure, it’s like you were emotional when someone was speeding and got ran over by the semi (understandably), but when someone else is speeding and the outcome was a near mishap, you’re more accepting as long as you have an adequate skill level. It seems like the point of speeding needs to be addressed, regardless of skill level, because of the significance of the increased risk to your life it provides. Had the car been going just a tad bit faster through the intersection, regardless of his skill level, he would’ve had a very bad day. Stop speeding. 16:47
riders should decelerate during traffic and intersection. be curios why vehicles are slowing down beside you and infront of you that means somebody is crossing in the intersection
I’m coming up on 40 and decided recently I’d get my motorcycle license and buy a bike - I’m not interested in speed or showing off etc.. but after a week of watching your channel I’ve become really worried 😦 Would you recommend I do it and try be as safe asp, or it’s too late to learn new skillsets ??
Be sure to add a MC safety course and have at it. The biggest asset any rider can have is common sense and self awareness, everything else will follow. You're 40 you should have those by now. And watch Dan's videos.
You are way tooo late in my opinion! One learns the basic balance of riding on two wheels when at a young age and carries over through your years of riding. If you have not been riding most of your life at 40 I would NEVER recommend anyone start riding unless you do not care about your future well being. I have given this same advice to many people over the years and totally believe it. Some situation will occur and you POOR instinctive reflex action will be wrong, and down you go. So just be ready for the day and hopefully it will not be serious!

Swerving and darting through traffic is a fine skillset to have, but what I see mostly are riders that are not paying attention to what is developing ahead of them. Most of these close calls could be avoided if the rider was paying attention and slowing down before it became a critical close call. These riders are living on a prayer every time they take to the road!!! The 4 wheel vehicle ALWAYS wins!!
Only recently found you as a creator, quite happy I did I've only just started riding bikes and you have a lot of lessons to teach good ones I might add. So thank you for everything you've taught me so far and everything I believe you will teach me later on. You're a great help
The new KIA logo DOES look like KN. But that said... it is VASTLY better than the old, generic, lame logo. This logo is ultra modern, futuristic, and screams premium quality to go along with their increasingly good designs. The old logo looked like a lame brand with a goofy looking emblem. It ruined any car they put it on now matter how good the design of the vehicle was.
Do motorcyclist know how hard they are to spot sometimes? When traffic is going 2mph you're not expecting a motorcycle to pop out at a speed of 40mph. Slow it down. Watching these videos are making me wonder if getting a motorcycle is a good idea. Safety is gonna be drilled into my riding.
I've had a fair amount of driver training. The more I get, the more faults I see with other drivers. Something I see very frequently is that a driver will glance in their mirror and make a decision immediately. They don't calculate the distance of the driver/rider in the next lane, and they don't calculate the speed that the driver/rider is moving. They glance and pull a static image. Also, many people do not know how to properly adjust their mirrors. You can minimize or almost completely remove blindspots with a properly adjusted mirror. If you can see the side of your vehicle in your mirror, it is wrong. Then, there is always the lack of seeing a bike. A loud exhaust doesn't help. A car on a highway won't hear you until you are next to them or ahead. Always wear a highly visible color. Even with a quick glance in a mirror, that intense high vis top will catch their eye nearly 100% of the time. Be safe out there. Remember, there is only a mandatory 6 hours behind the wheel training to get a driver's license in the U.S. in most states. That is way too little. Everyone should have to take a defensive driver course and an advanced defensive driver course at a minimum. It would save lives.
Could you elaborate on the mirrors placement ? How should they be adjusted in a car generally ? I usually adjust them just enough where I can see the gas cap of the car @_@
@thiccanxiety2796 I'll try. Your mirrors should see the lane next to you and the lane outside of that. You don't need to see the back of your car. It's not going anywhere. To see behind you, you have the rear view mirror. You should be able to see a vehicle in the lane next to you in your mirror all the way until it comes into your peripheral without the mirror. My instructor explained things so much better than me, plus he demonstrated it while I was seated in the training car. It took a while to get used to. I was so used to adjusting them just like you do. Now, the only blind spot I have is the very minimal space of the A pillar. Google proper mirror adjustment. I quickly see an image from AutoDeal. That may help you visualize it.
@thiccanxiety2796 Do you live in the U.S. and do you have any children between 15-19? Weird questions, I know. There is a program in the U.S. called B.R.A.K.E.S.. They move around the country and offer training courses for new drivers. Parents get involved as well. It's a great course. I put my daughter through it twice. I remember them teaching proper mirror adjustment during the class. My daughter absolutely loved the training. They teach accident avoidance, skid control, and proper use of a.b.s.. They show firsthand how distracted driving affects your ability to drive safely. At the end, you and your child get a course completion certificate that you can use to get a small discount on your insurance.
It's hard for a lot of people to calculate speed of a motorcycle looking straight on from a mirror. That's just the nature of human eyes, there's no relative piece on a motorcycle that can help quickly assess speed in contrast to a car. Like looking at a single stick coming at you compared two sticks spaced two inches apart.
@@nicholas4514 thanks for making me think about this cause youre so right. I adjust my mirrors to see the back door handle only because I was taught my driving instructors to do so...but when you think about it it doesnt make sense!
On that left hander where you’re saying middle, in the UK in this situation you’re taught to stay to the right. That gives you best visibility into the corner, gets yo7 seen sooner, and means your head isn’t hanging over the middle. That case would not have been so close if they had been positioned on the right. Then move to middle once corner completed. Middle for right turns (left for us in UK!). We don’t talk about oil on the road as much as you guys do!
Very first video passing on passenger side where it’s harder to look across a seat and see you in the right lane. And “Ride like you are invisible”, means, use defensive driving and leave a cushion, make sure your intentions are communicated. It doesn’t mean zig zag, speed up, cut in. This is basic driving.
With these videos I have classified riders into a couple of categories..... No common sense, unable to anticipate what is developing ahead, riding too fast for the situation, taking unnecessary risks, and unable to handle their motorcycle properly
tip#1 - on a bike its always your fault, yes peiple are dumb and mean, doesnt matter, expect it ... getting mad or blaming wont change one thing ... in a car, an idiot can get away with alot more of nit understanding what the absolute limits are .. on a bike not knowing even one limit will get you effed up .. the trick is learning those limits slowly and building up to them feeling them out and 'never' allowing yourself to get in a position that takes you beyond what youre sure of 'to the point' of stopping the bike completely or even getting off of it and pushing it etc .. dont let the situation control you, and if in doubt, slower is always better ..

I tend to see most road debris, if not off to the side of the road, be in the middle. The just built up the shoulder on a couple curves right by my house and everyone has since thrown all the loose gravel into the middle of the lanes. It's so annoying but can't really do much about it.
Any people from the west learn to ride in asia for one week especially in Cambodia or Vietnam and all of them will unlock the ability to identify threats on the roads from miles away, they will have it like spider senses. Those type of near miss situations are daily occurrence for Asian rider and drivers. Anytime you get out to ride just only for a 15mins to go to work, you will get at least 4-5 near misses. If you’re busying arguing with those people while riding you’re gonna get wrecked by another idiot that doesn’t pay attention on the road. They have no concept of safe distance, 98% of 125cc and below rider don’t have license, especially 80% of common folks rider ( the 125cc daily commute ) they will be tailgating you inches away, or keep shoving themselves in on the road next to you until their shoulder almost touches yours and like 6-7 motorcycles stucking in the same lane inches away from all around you. Even when you leave a safe distance gap they will shove themselves in there either perpendicularly or parallel, all they want to do is go first and give no sh*t about anything, they will cut right in front of you when you’re turning or when going straight as long as they see a gap wide enough they will go, they have no concept of safety nor understanding the right of way all they care is me go me go me go you getting closer to me? Me cut in front of you, because me want go first. Me shift lane no looking back or use turn signals, if you don’t brake me will blame you for have no eyes, me riding all over the road swirling up and down cutting left and right, me want turn me will turn no look.
With the first crash, once you see the driver change lanes aggressively the first time, you can assume he is a distracted, irresponsible, anxious asshole who is going to try to exit .
I just picked up my first bike, a Honda Monkey. Never ridden before and waiting for my gear before I go for the first time. Watching all these kinds of videos have me seriously reconsidering what possessed me to buy a bike in the first place. It’s starting to feel like it’s just not safe enough to ride a bike on the streets. These videos all do seem to have one common thing: they all seem to be going faster than the rest of traffic. Makes me think that’s why the cars are “cutting off” the motorcycles. They just aren’t expecting something to shoot up along side.
The second to last rider may have been a hot shot but still dumb as a rock. Speeding way over the flow of traffic even after dodging the turner (which traffic had stopped for) then looking back multiple of times for long enough for someone to have easily pulled into his lane. Then claims to the truck driver "I wasn't even speeding"? LOL! Looking backward while speeding in traffic doesn't seem to be a skill you want to develop!
Just for starters, it WASN'T an open lane, the driver didn't see him. The yellow DID save him, the truck driver was already tightening the turn because he DID. Do enjoy the videos however 👍
At 6:20 it appears that the car to the right of the Kia was trying to force his or her way in causing the Kia to brake a little short. Good thing the rider turned back around in time. What do you think? It also could have been the camera angle making it appear that way.
Here in Australia, they expect you to stick to the left lane position in turns, we drive on the left, specifically in case of people going wide and preventing head-ons
That happened to me one this lady almost hit me but I moved the motorcycle and got and the shoulder and then accelerated. Riders have to be more aware of their surroundings.
I seen someone a few days ago weaving though traffic and line spiting (illegal here). Was pretty sure I was going to see laying on the road later but luckily not.
The first one, at 0:16, the cars' ahead red lights were all coming on, and the white car straight ahead was slowing right in front of it, so why would you speed up?? To lane split between the 2 white cars? You're just asking for trouble. This is typical for why Dan can keep doing these videos week after week - this same stuff keeps happening over and over. IMO 90% of these situations could be avoided by not hotdogging it all the time. Just ride with the flow of traffic and don't try to save a minute of your life by endangering yourself and those around you. Factor in the cost in $$ and time this guy will now have to spend to get back to zero. For what? To save a few minutes?
Looks like the 105. Riding in LA traffic, this type of stuff happens all the time. Black car should have been at threat level #1 and the rider should have expected something chaotic from him. I don’t trust anyone on the road, and a car switching a bunch of lanes is a potential death wish. 539
Dans certains cas comme dans des virages à gauche tu dis de ce placer au milieu et d’aller sur la droite de la route pour éviter un obstacle comme une voiture, sauf que si tu te place déjà à l’entrée du virage à droite, non seulement tu est déjà dans la voie de « sécurité » mais en plus étant donné qu’on est sur le côté externe de la route on peut voir la fin du virage plus rapidement, et donc voir si un véhicule dépasse sur notre voie plus rapidement et donc être en sécurité plus rapidement et prendre les info plus rapidement. Aussi si on ce place au milieu, pas tout le monde peut avoir la présence d’esprit de ce décaler sur la droite sur le moment venu, quand un véhicule nous fonce dessus, c’est pour cela que si on est déjà placé à droite a l’entrée du virage qui donne à gauche on est beaucoup plus en sécurité. Réfléchis à ça mon ami. PS : en France, on peut faire des cours d’amélioration de pilotage avec des gendarmes ( police ) à moto, et c’est la première chose qu’il nous apprennent.

Besides ALWAYS riding with my high beams on in the daytime (as recommended by my auto insurance agent, who also rides), fork mounted driving lights (day and night) drastically reduced the incidences of folks swerving into my lane. Being seen is KEY to rider safety, and the more lights you have on your machine, the more you will notice the difference. If I’d known how dramatic the difference would be, I’d have added them decades before I did.
I'm a brand new rider. What sort of lights do you run on your bike? I'm assuming they're LEDs mounted to the front forks? I guess I could put some on the frame in the back too. My jacket is black with a giant high vis yellow stripe, and I'm trying to find some high vis-style pants and boots cause my bike is matte black.
I can’t believe someone actually recommended you to run your high beams constantly. I’ve seen this a few times recently on newer bikes and it impedes my vision during the day with my tinted visor.
@@threefoldcrossroads All my lights are LED. The most effective hi-vis gear you can wear is your helmet. Ins. Industry study showed that wearing a hi-vis helmet, or ANY color other than black or gray, increases your chance of being seen by oncoming traffic by over TWENTY TIMES. Even if you’re wearing other hi-vis gear, your helmet is the highest point, and seen from a much further distance.
