I had an emergency c-section. I had placenta previa and started bleeding heavily at 31 weeks, we rushed to the hospital. I went under general and from the time we walked into the hospital they had me prepped and my baby out in 11 minutes. Loved my nurses and how well they handled the situation and my fear!
OB staff are crazy fast. I swear a speed test has to be part of their application process. I worked in the ER for a while and we had an imminent delivery come in during the night (baby was already crowning). Labor and delivery is 3rd floor, ER is 1st floor. From the moment we called the code to when their staff showed up was 60 seconds flat. It was CRAZY.

Omg #10! I actually got some grief from one of the midwives I worked with for not gaining enough weight. I gained 15 lbs for the whole pregnancy (I started at a normal BMI), which I know is below the recommended amount. I didn't diet, count calories, or anything. I continued to exercise through my pregnancy, but never excessively. I ate mostly healthy, sometimes not, and then just waited to get hungry again before I ate. Baby was born 6 lbs 11 oz, perfectly healthy, and my pregnancy was normal. There seems to be a slight double-standard with weight. We never want to hurt someone's feelings by saying they should lose weight, but if someone needs to gain we just flat out say it. Anyways. I don't hold anything against the midwife now - she was just doing her job. But as a first time mother, to be asked by someone if I was "even eating" was actually really upsetting. All my other stats were normal, bump was growing fine. And in some countries they don't even weigh you. Ok, ok. I'm done now, promise lol
There are countries who actually set weight gain guidelines at 15-25 and not 25-35. I've had pregnancies where I've gained 15-20 pounds and most of my providers were like "it's fine, it's less weight to lose later anyway," and the babies were 7 pounders with perfect apgar scores.
BMI chart has been widely discredited as bad science and also racist. No medical provider should be using it in the modern world. Millions are denied or delayed care because of weight discrimination. Usually this is for patients who are not skinny, but it happens to people of all weight. It's really sad.

I would really love one of these videos that deals with induction. I feel like the internet scares the crap out of new moms when it comes to induction. I am 40 weeks + 1 today and my OBGYN scheduled my induction for the end of next week as is standard practice. I found when speaking to her about a lot of the things that I was worried about she said were not true or grossly exaggerated Some examples being: they make Labour significantly more painful. They can make labour longer. They can make you need to have a C-section. They can make you need more medical interventions. Etc
I had a scheduled induction at 37 weeks due to having cholestasis and I had only about 2 days to prepare for it (everything was very last minute) and I was terrified to about it because I too read a lot of negative things about it online but honestly the experience wasn’t bad, I think it made me feel better knowing what I was there to do rather than having my water break at any random time The contractions are pretty painful but I was given the 3 doses of meds (I don’t remember what it’s called sorry) and when I couldn’t handle the pain I just got the epidural and it was amazing from there on honestly I would’ve gotten it so much sooner Overall I had the contractions for almost 12 hrs I think and gave birth 2 hrs later :) pushing only took me 30 min
I personally loved my induction experience. I was 3cm when I was admitted, started pitocin at 10am & my daughter was born just under 15 hours later at 12:47am. Everyone will try to scare you & say that pitocin makes contractions unbearable but that is NOT true! I went through my entire labor & delivery without an epidural & it was fine! I didn’t feel a single contraction until my water broke at 8cm & then my daughter was born 2 hours later so it was only painful for those 2 hours. You got this!
I was induced with twins for my first pregnancy, so Pitocin contraction are all I know. I labored for 7 hours without an epidural on Pitocin (I did have a dose of fentanyl) and only got one because I was so sleepy. I took an hour nap and went from 7cm to crowning. Looking back I definitely could have asked for something to help me sleep instead because I was never in a lot of pain. It did hurt but nothing that I couldn’t just close my eyes and breath through. I was able to deliver both babies without any issues.
Currently being induced. 4cm 70% effaced, 8 hours into labors. Contractions are intense but doing okay with the gas so far. 😁 Can't wait to have my baby boy. ❤️
@@Nurse_zabe 24 hours after pitocin started, 18 hours after she broke my water, I only got to 7.5cm and 80% effaced so my labor ended in a C-section but was a blessing in disguise because I had a large dermoid cyst on my ovary that was missed by all the ultrasounds so she was able to remove it. We're both doing very well. He was a healthy 7lb 11oz. ❤️

Your videos had helped me so much throughout my pregnancy. I was scheduled to be induced at 40 +6, which was on a Wednesday. But I had an NST that Monday I failed it , got sent to the hospital I was having contractions but they told me that I was probably dehydrated, didn't even check if I was dilated and sent me home. Around midnight that same day my contractions got worse and my mom made me go to the hospital I was having contractions every minute and so all of the nurses ran into the triage room to check if I was dilated and I was already 7 cm. They took me straight to the labor and delivery room gave me my epidural which slowed my labor down tremendously around 7am the next morning I was 9 cm dilated they gave me pitocin which did absolutely nothing but by 9am I was pushing there were quite a few complications while giving birth. Everytime I push my baby's heart completely stopped I was having a hard time breathing I ended up being put on oxygen the entire time she had came out with her hand up so I tore in every place imaginable. My placenta broke upinside of me so my doctor had to reach her arms in and pull it out in pieces. I am 5 weeks postpartum and have to get a d&C done because I'm bleeding through a pad an hour and have been for about 2 weeks.
Is there any information you can give me about the D&C procedure, and are there any risks for having it done? I'm only 17 and have never had any kind of surgery or anything of that sort, I'm a little nervous

My first son had his cord wrapped and had recurrent deceleration and I still had a vaginal birth. Nurses were scared, but you’d never have known! He’s great and had no issues. ❤️ My second son also had his cord wrapped, but had no deceleration. 🤷🏼♀️

Brittany Jackson I had a lot of bleeding, luckily I was in the hospital when it happened. I woke up to blood gushing out heavily. They got my baby out with 11 minutes. I didn’t really have pain until after they checked me, but I was in shock from the blood loss so I wasn’t very alert to the pain.
Loved your talk about the cords! I know people can get freaked out when thinking of a nuchal cord but generally it’s not concerning. My friend who had her baby last year though was definitely an outlier, baby had recurrent decels as labor progressed further, when they did the c-section they found baby had a nuchal cord X5!! Have never heard of that before!

I thank you for bringing up pregnancy and baby loss. I wish I had known about the harsh reality prior to. I was under the false assumption that we were safe after 12 weeks.
My mono mono twins had so many knots, twists and a nuchal cord together. The cords were thankfully SO thick and to this day, I'm so thankful for our amazing bodies! Thanks for this video!
I’m glad you explained the difference between scheduled, emergency and urgent c sections. When people ask I often say not scheduled but not sure if it was emergency. I had to have a c section because my fluid was too low and my baby was breach. So I delivered that day but the time pushed back a few times because other emergency/more urgent c sections came up.

I was a month and 6 days premature and I wrapped the cord around myself.. I think mother said that I was in NICU for 6 weeks for jaundice, I would fall asleep eating and I was only 4lbs6oz. She had an emergency c-section on New Years morning at 6:15am. So proud of her and the team that nursed me and mom back to health.

From personal experience, you'll never be ready. You can be finally stable, debt free, stress free and have a perfect life and when you give birth you with still freak out. You'll never be ready until you have to be. I have one and am pregnant with my second. As long as you and you can husband are happy with it then go for it
I knew my c-section was emergent because my labor nurse and doctor told me, it was a long labor and baby was doing well but suddenly dark meconium began leaking out and baby's heartrate dropped too low. They really rushed me in there! I was happy I'd had a trial of labor at least, felt my body was more ready to switch to mom mode. But so so glad that emergency c-sections are available and they move FAST
The heartburn one I always thought was untrue. Maybe I just dont get heartburn! I had no heartburn my entire pregnancy! And my daughter came out with so much hair. I love your videos, btw. So informative. :)
I don’t think it’s true for everyone. My sister has babies with crazy hair and no heart burn. Me on the other hand I can’t get rid of the heart burn and mine come out bald.
I had an emergency c section due to a bad preeclampsia and hellp syndrome at 30 weeks. My team of doctors, nurses and anesthesiologist were so amazing though. Not a minute passed where I was scared for me or my baby as I was surrounded by so much sweetness. If you have a NICU baby (preterm) it's okay!! Like my nicu nurse told me, even though little, that tiny person is still a baby getting where they should be. No matter what type of birth you have, no matter how little or big your baby is, you're a mom! And everything will be okay ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

*More examples of Urgent vs. Emergency C-section* My mother had three C-sections. The first she had an umbilical cord prolapse this is an emergency. The second was planned because of scar tissue from the first C-section. The third (me) started out as urgent because of bleeding, turned into Emergency because of a placental rupture in combination with part of the placenta didnt want to detach from the uterus. Emergency is when eminent death is approaching for mother or baby. Urgent is where it will likely be a serious issue soon, and scheduled or planned is exactly how it sounds!
This! I'm so tired of people saying emergency when it's NOT. I know someone who was impatient, got induced at 39 weeks, body was trying to tell her it's not time and after 14 hours she got an "emergency" section 🙄
I feel so wrong watching these videos sometimes because I know I would not be supported by family members, friends if I were to have a baby right now. I am over the age of 18 and am really craving to be a young mom but I know I would be shunned by most people but I think your videos and many like this are very educational for those who want to have a planned pregnancy but need to make logical decisions and be properly educated first.

Thank you for talking about birthing hips. When I was 19 I was underweight because of a fast metabolism my family doctor at the time saw my hip size and told me that I was going to have a very hard pregnancy if I could even have kids. Because of this occurrence until like a month ago I have been terrified of ever being pregnant on top of the fact that my family has a lot of history of miscarriages. I am not expecting now but my fiance and I like to start trying in a year or so. Your videos along with some others have really been helping me demystify pregnancy and giving birth and now I am actually excited to be pregnant one day.
Tall... thin ..never bigger than a size 4....and narrow hips here. About to have my 4th any day now. Labor #1 easy n fast. 1st pain to delivery...6hrs. #2... Super fast...no meds. First pain till delivery: 1 hr 45 mins__super easy! 3rd baby was 4 hrs start to end as she was a semi induction after a partial placental tear...so they started labor for me, still fast. The hips thing is a myth indeed!🤣
To add to the cord around the neck: If you deliver vaginally, and there's more than three loops of the cord around the neck expect the doctors to share all of the potential negative side effects. On the brighter side of things, and using myself as an example, but babies can develop normally after having the cord wrapped around the neck 6 times and being vaginally delivered. I set a hospital record on the number of cord wraps, and my parents were expecting me to be extremely disabled based on what the doctors said. I'm college educated, have a technical full time job, a house, husband, fruit trees, and my only issue is scoliosis.
Something I just have to get off my chest (Pun intended) breast feeding with implants??? I rarely ever EVER hear anyone talk about breastfeeding with implants. Does anyone know if there's anything to be especially wary of?
You should be fine if you still have some of your beast tissue. Sometimes they cut and put the implant over the breast tissue/milk ducts and directly under the skin-in this case the ducts are severed from the nipple and you can’t nurse. Other times they cut under the tissue/milk ducts and it goes implant, intact breast and nipple; in this case you usually are able to breastfeed as the breast is left pretty much intact THOUGH you may have fewer milk ducts still intact as some may have been severed to make room for the implant. If you have the second style implant, you should be able to breastfeed but might struggle in some areas. You might have fewer milk ducts and so might have to work harder to keep up with babe. You might also lose some nipple sensitivity with breast augmentation which could make it hard to get a good latch. That’s me being realistic but plenty of women with implants go on to breastfeed as long as they want to.
I did a breastfeeding class when I was in nursing school and there is nothing to be worried about!! I’m not sure if they’re still up but Hayley Paige has talked about the topic and she as well as most mothers with implants have been successful:)
I've had implants since long before I had children. I've had no issues breastfeeding with my first 2 children and I'm currently 33wks pregnant with #3. I had saline implants put in using the TUBA method for the first set. I breastfed my first 2 children. Then last year I had silicone implants put in with a donut lift and they went in periareolar. I've been paranoid it would affect my ability to breastfeed since they cut my areolas, but can confirm I'm able to express colostrum now. So, I'm assuming breastfeeding will go fine with #3. The only struggle I've had with being large chested is when they were full and hard, I really had to pinch my nipple/areola flat to help my babies get it into their mouth and latched well. I'm sure naturally large chested women experience the same struggle. So, implant moms should be able to breastfeed the same as anyone else. Don't worry about that. Get help from a lactation consultant at the hospital after you have your baby if you're inexperienced.

You should do a video on what you, as the patient, can say no to or refuse. I hear a lot of women talk about things thy were upset with after their birth and many were things they could have just refused.
jellybeankisser love this ! I agree. Most things you can refuse. They make you feel you can’t but legally unless your baby is going to die immediately or your unconscious, you have final say in what happens to you.
Yes! There's really not much information out there on things like refusing IVs, and I'd be interested to hear how to approach refusals with their care providers and how it changes anything to do with the process.
I have a bit of a background in ECE and a part of that came with a lot of knowledge about the body, pregnancy and labor/delivery, babies. And not to scare any mama's but when my sister in law was pregnant, we all found out about halfway through and she really did not know what to expect from any part of the journey. So everything was a suprise, actually a shock really. She had many issues during labor and delivery, she had a dangerously lengthy labor which ended in an emergency csection and an absolutely traumatized mama, physically and mentally. She was not prepared for even the best case scenario, and to have had the almost worst case scenario every step of the way, it was really hard on her in more ways than one. So much so breastfeeding was off the table, connecting with her baby was off the table, honestly she was fighting for herself to survive mentally and emotionally. So it is kind of hard to hear when a mama considers herself to have had an emergency c section, and when you kind of go into the details you find out that it was just not a a part of the plan that they had a relatively challenging experience but like she said not in the case of an emergent situation. And then I compare that to the knowledge i have of my sister in laws birth and other mama's who have shared their birth story with me, how traumatic birth can really be, how actually dangerous it was for them, life threatening even. And you realize how important it is to understand what is happening to you during your labor and delivery and how to label the birth for what it was so theres not a chance for someone to minimize your experience or so that another mama isn't triggered and etc. Just my thoughts on the subject 😊
I worked in the OR at the same delivering place. I was an induction because I was 41 wks. That night, I was 2.5 cm and they gave me the epidural so I could sleep and not deliver on the night shift. I was in labor for 19 1/2 hrs and almost needed forceps. I was having cervical change.
I have a couple of questions. 1) I tore really badly last time and I'm horrified to give birth this time around. Will I tear again? 2) how to deal with nasty midwives/nurses. When I had my daughter I had some horrible nurses. And it made the experience so much worse than it already was.
My sister tore with her first I told her to try kegals with the second because I do them regularly and have never tore after 4 kids but I also think it was because she was really tense 😬 even with an epidural she was scared to push but the baby was coming no matter what 😆. The second one was much better she did tear but minimally no stitches and she was better at pushing anyway I’m sorry you went through it but don’t be scared ❤️
My emergency C-section was following an amnio that went wrong and my son was in a dire condition. My amnio started at 9 a.m. and by 9:11 a.m. I had been moved down the hall to a surgery suite and he was delighted. 11 minutes total including changing rooms, prep and delivery. The needle from the amnio had punctured a vein in the placenta and he had lost blood into the sack and was delivered in shock with an apgar of 1. I will always tell everyone I had the easy part that day. I just got knocked out and had surgery, my husband was the one with the traumatic experience as he didn’t know if he might loose his first child and saw him being taken from the operating room white and not moving and having to be taken for emergency care.
You should do a video of rair or not common problems during pregnancy. Like preclamps and being rh negative so you have to get rhogam shots. I would love to see what you have to say about them I had both with my daughter. I'm 16 weeks now and hoping I dont get preclamps this time
My heartburn required a prescription from weeks 36-38. Was she hairy? So hairy that the midwives commented on it. She’s three and a half now, and still a fuzzy little miss. 😂
I needed a prescription the entire 3rd trimester and my baby had barely any hair on her head but had crazy peach fuzz everywhere else lol her back was hairier than her head 😂
I love your videos! Very educational even tho I'm not pregnant. I have posteral hypotension and no one in my family has it so none of them can answer questions about how low blood pressure affects pregnancy and the ability to get an epidural during labour. Does tokophobia include fear of having a c-section? I've tried to do research on my own about this, but I can't find anything good information that isn't just people writing articles saying not to be afraid. (For reference, after hearing about my mother's section with me where it was botched and causes her pain even to this day, and after seeing my sister go through a horrendous experience with a section as well, I'm absolutely terrified of having to have a baby in case I end up needing one as well. Even thinking about it or watching anything about it makes me verge in panic attacks at the best of times. I'd love to see a therapist about this, but I'm not in a country where I speak the language fluently, so it's not possible right now. So anything you would like to say about the topic would be great. I want to have children one day, but this is holding me back from that.) Thank you.
Hearing my mother's experience with a C section with me in 1984 over and over again has absolutely terrified me. She has a scar across her whole belly that has no sensation. She also contracted Hep C from the hospital blood transfusion that has been affecting her for decades. It has been helpful to me to watch modern videos to learn that C sections are not the same as they were back then, nor as common. We have had many advances in medical technology, and that's awesome.
One thing my fertility doctor told me is that during TWW and through pregnancy, you don't eat for 2. But you should eat twice as well. And that really helps me
Had an emergency csection in 2012, I had severe preeclampsia and was in the hospital for a week. The perinatologist came in to tell me at 1:50 pm to tell me my daughters cord had completely stopped delivering oxygen to her, she was born at 2:27 pm not breathing. I was 27 weeks pregnant and she weighed 1lb. They were not providing medical intervention for until she tried breathing on her own. Once she took her first breath, all the NICU nurses and the neonatologist rushed her to to the NICU, where she spent the first 3 months of her life! Now she’s 7 going on 17
What’s the “farthest” you can get in labor & chose to still get an epidural? I’ve seen a lot of movies / shows / videos where the woman is like I change my mind I want an epidural & the Dr is like “it’s too late”
If baby is coming coming! I would guess 8-10 cm. my sister wanted epidural, they put me out the room to give it to her. 2 minutes later they called me back & said its too late, she’s gonna push, nephew was here in less than 5 minutes 🤗
It seems to be that by the time many women ask for a late epidural, they're in so much pain that they can't hold still enough for the anesthesiologist to safely place the needle. Your spine is not a part of your body where you want them to slip and stick a needle somewhere it shouldn't be!
99% sure that once you start pushing you can’t get an epidural anymore. Which can suck because some people just feel that urge to start pushing even if the baby isn’t even close!
