I love roll and writes this one is my favorite video. My favorites are cartographers, dice dragons and danger, paper dungeons, hadrians wall, welcome to and three sisters
From this list, I'd like to try Silver & Gold, Welcome To, Rolling Realms, Ofrendados, Dungeons, Dice, & Danger, and Cartographers. I think the only Stonemaier Games game I've played is Wingspan, yet I think I'd be intrigued by seeing different games' mechanics referenced, and be drawn to try some of them. nice detailed explanations on these games. If you loved Welcome To, I'd suggest Welcome to the Moon. I thought Welcome To was a bit overrated. They took Welcome To and went with 8 different boards offering the same basic concept from Welcome To on different maps. Rolling Realms also has tons of fan-Made realms that are really well done. I think there are more Expansion realms that he will fully publish. Cartographers is my wife's favorite of the Roll/Flip and Write Genre. Now there are several map packs that really change things up in a good way. Riverside is also one of my favorites you have listed here. Really like the way the river changes things up every game. My favorite Roll/Flip and Writes of late are Rawr N Write, Hadrians Wall, Twilight Inscription, Three sisters, Railroad ink (With all the expansion dice), Longshot the Dice Game, Isle of Cats Explore and Draw, I think my Roll/flip and Write games are about 50% of my collection so far with more on the way.
Living vicariously through this series, as I'm disabled and chronically ill and not currently able to make it to cons. Some friends are going to a gaming con tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they bring back. 🥰
I rate this series - a 10 out of 10! This is so great and love the conversational style vs. more review. I love reviews as well but the amount of games in each episode has me eagerly tuning in whenever they pop up! I like roll/flip and write and have a few but don't get them out enough. Many are easy to play solo - so I should reach for them just for fun much more.
Great video and still really enjoy the series! I don't play a lot of roll and writes because it's not my favourite way of playing (I like a board, meeples, larger experience) but I really appreciate the diversity of those games that you showcased here !
The only roll and write game I own is an old copy of Roll Through the Ages, which hasn’t been played in ages. I am thinking of trying Cartographers though. Looks like a potentially fun small box game.
Wow Amy, a 9.0 for Welcome To! (Very close to AFfO!) I wonder how you rate Welcome to the Moon then. Even though we had a phantastic time playing Trek12 with you a while ago (the playing group for sure makes a difference), Roll and Writes are not my preferred games. I also have quite a few in my collection, but hardly ever get them out. Love the great and fun video as always and can't wait for #5.
Welcome to is SUCH a great puzzle, for all the reasons Amy explicated. Very satisfying *and* addictive! I really like the Ice Cream truck and Christmas Lights modules, they really add an interesting twist to the game.
Loving this series! I have 3 roll and writes (down from 8), generally they don't really work for me unless there's some tactile element (Hadrian's Wall with the meeples, Rawr and Write with the DNA Dice)
Great video! Love Riverside, Troyes Dice and Metro X, but I m more into more meaty ones like Hadrian's Wall, Fleet The Dice, Shu's Tactics. Looking to try Twilight Inscription. Wonder what u guys think bout meaty roll n writes?

This was a great video A&M, I really like you doing this video as a roll/flip etc n write only. It's good to have one of your ten game vdeos dedicated to a mechanic or theme or whatever and you should keep doing these interspersed of course with a mixture of others as you have been doing, just to keep it fresh and different but also us watchers knowing you might do one of these types of videos again on a topic, mechanic, theme etc. I wanted to share a couple of comments - 1 - Roll(etc) & writes are my least favourite game mechanic, dislike them with a passion BUT there are some (Fleet the dice game) that I just cannot get enough of. Welcome To - Amy you hit the proverbial nail on the head with that game. FtD game 9.0 and Welcome To about 8.8. - 2 - I can't get enough of Troyes Dice, I completely agree with Maggie here, its not the best roll n write but there is so much that just gets me coming back to it. The bandits expansion adds something too - but I keep finding new ways of doing well, or trying to mitigate where the black dice falls. I just find this very thinking and keep coming back to it. In fact for ANY game I have owned in the same period (approx 2 months) there is no other game I have played more than T-Dice, but weirdly in spite of R&W being my least favourite mechanism, welcome to is not too far behind T-Dice. T-Dice 7.8 - doesn't quite cross the 8 threshold because the comments on how the cards come out etc are spot on. Strategy sucks because there's just a bit too much luck in this one. I also think regardless of a black dice being number 1, you should always have the option of purchasing a number for 0. BTW best way to teach T-dice is show them the payment system, where a dice of a number and colour can be placed and then just play, you provide them with options for each dice that come out so they make up their own mind, really easy to teach as they naturally see it coming together. 3 - Cartographers is the worst game on this list by far. It's too repetitive for me - I understand and can see why its popular but it is one of those games even after several plays I just have never really enjoyed that much. Weirdly tho, I just bought the Underground Map 3 pack, just to see if changing up the maps might get me to like it. 4 - Rolling Realms - did you note the story behind the creation of this R&W (Jamey has a good write up on his website - such a great little initiative in 2020 due to Covid) - I like this game lots because I have played and I think also own all the Stonemaier games. But a mate of mine who has only played Viticulture and Wingspan had exactly the same feeling, you really need to know the games represented in Rolling Realms otherwise it is way too confusing. 5 - Back to Troyes Dice - I learned this before playing Troyes the game. I cannot get into it and based on a friend's suggestion, learn Troyes before T-Dice as things make sense that way not the other way around. God, Troyes the game has me confused! FINALLY... LOL, Maggie in one of these videos choose ten thematic games for both of you to rate (truly thematic games, whether or not you like them!) and Amy straight after/before do one on ten really "thinker" games. You often say about mechanics, but thinking games usually have a blend of different mechanics that make it work well. My personal opinion is Teotihuacan is not really thematic but more thinky.
I used to never take roll and write games seriously, but playing Twilight Inscription and Hadrian’s Wall has really change my perspective. Thanks for the overview of some good roll and writes to check out.
Fleet: The Dice Game was the one that blew me away and get me into more roll n writes and made me want to own some instead of just trying them as a novelty
You might want to check out Welcome to the Moon too then, it's awesome in my opinion (coming from someone who loves Hadrians Wall and Twilight Inscription too)!
Still watching the video (like a quarter of the way through, at present), but wondering if you all have played Dinosaur Island Rawr n' Write. That game was such a pleasant surprise for me, a really fun and crunchy puzzle that evokes some of the same feelings as Dinosaur Island, which I'm also a fan of.
I only play my cartographers heroes when I have someone else around, alone I usually play an app... And I have welcome to but I don't wanna play my first game as a solo so I am waiting someone to play with me.
