I know you're joking but when items like the Decathlon 10L cost under $4 and work well as packing cubes, why use "real" packing cubes? Quecha 10L hold toiletries or damp clothes, work as shopping bags, stuff down jackets etc.

The small no structure bags are great as an alternative to a packing cube. I pack the first day of cloths in one in my main pack. When I get to my destination I put on my clothes and I now have a empty day bag to fill with snacks, and beverages.

Hi other me from another dimension. That's darn near word for word what I was going to write. Of the choices Pack Hacker offers, I think the Decathlon 10L fits the bill perfectly as a packing cube / arrival day kit thanks to its better shape - not overly tear drop. I used to use the Sea to Summit which looks marginally boogie, but crinkles a lot.

I have the old Osprey packable bag, it's still available for ~40€ on Amazon. Packs down to an apple, strangely comfortable even filled with spontaneous shopping. Has only padded straps, one water bottle side pocket and a top for small items. Otherwise one big compartment, which can be used as a big packing cube or dirty laundry catch. The best thing it's 18l but packs down to size of an apple. Perfect compromise for me - handy for biking and so much else 😇

Forget the Forclaz 100 Compact 10 L, get the Forclaz Compact and Comfort Tote Pack 15 L instead. It might be a bit heavier, but it has a lot more functions and structure. It is a backpack and a tote bag in one and has padded straps and back. I could even fit my 15 inch laptop in the back sleave, though it sticks out a bit at the top. You can stow away the straps and the small hipbelt to give it a sleek look for the city or use it as a backpack for more adventurous trips. And if you don't need it, you can pack it into its own pouch which doubles as a inside zipper pocket when in use. I own quite a few packable bags, but this one is my favourite because of its versatility. And it wasn't even expensive!

I have several Aer bags, all good but the go pack, i think is Aer’s best product, i have taken it on long and short trips, use it for shopping, with my laptop (in a sleeve), daily edc,… it has held up great, does not look too fancy and attracts attention. Absolutely love it

I have the Eddie Bauer 30L STOWAWAY packable. Its roomy. I use it as a bookbag and sewed thin waist straps to take the weight off my shoulders when I bike. I inserted a couple Amazon bubble shipping envelopes in the hydration compartment to give it structure and to protect my laptop.

My favorite packable backpack after owning a few of these is the Cotopaxi Batac 16, can compress just as small as most of these but the straps are somehow just really good. For and alternative to the Aer Go, I like the Rennen Ripstop Rennen, its just as light and structured, but set up as a more "normal" bag, seems tougher, and can get just as flat, or rolled up.

I have the Matador Refraction packable backpack. I'm satisfied with it - I like the design with the 2 external pockets and nice water bottle holders. I wish the shoulder straps were beefier and the non-padded section of the straps were not as scratchy, but I think that's par for the course for these types of bags.

I’ve had the original version of the 20L Sea to Summit ultra-sil backpack for around 7 years and use it daily. No colour fade, folds up smaller than your fist and super lite weight. Also have the Kathmandu 15L pocket pack, another great packable daypack.

a nice selection, i hadn't heard of many of them! my personal one i use is Arcteryx heliad 15, i use it most days of the week when not traveling also, but it doesn't hold up in the rain (not sure why they didn't make it weather proof considering the brand is outdoors) but i have had my eye on the Patagonia Black hole tote pack since you guys featured it as i also have a spare personal bag when traveling and i also hate seeing backpacks worn on the front so i think a tote backpack would be perfect!

With Decathlons in lots of o ersess locations, cheap but sturdy and well made 20L and 30L Quecha packs make excellent return overflow or emergency replacement packs. In Thailand, under $10 bought me a legit 20L pack which then held my personal item sling and gate me 15L of extra available storage room for my return flight.

I have too many of these but I still like watching videos. My experience is that I am a huge fan of the Wandrd veer, especially if I have camera gear. For absolute minimum then the other extreme for me is a Terra Nova ultra 20 but it's hard to find now.

I’ve never seen the flowfold optimist before but I like the materials. I have the Osprey UL Dry Pack and it is a great packable bag. It is excellent in the rain which saved me on some trips. I don’t usually like roll tops so I’ve been looking at the Osprey remnants as an alternative bag.

I own the nomatic collapsible backpack and the matador on grid packable backpack and the nomatic is my choice unless I am lacking space or I have no plans to use it (just in case). Specially for trips in which I will be carrying the bag all day, I prefer something with little structure and ventilation but still packable to fit inside my 30L bag.

Love the video. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a bag that would work for more formal occasions but is still able to be packed in a backpack without taking up too much room. I took my normal A5 size satchel for a short conference but it took up too much room if I have been going for longer.

I have the Mystery Ranch packable backpack. The best use case for this bag is to use when you are at a destination (either city or beach...I've done both). It does fit in my Aer Travel Pack 3 Small x-pak or my Monos Hybrid Carry on Plus. The versatility of this bag is what makes this work for me, understanding that I only use it as a day pack to carry items that I would take traveling through a city or the beach (Mexico City and Aruba). Your review is quite accurate. It's a bit difficult to pack into itself, but if I only do that once during a trip, I can live with that.

I like osprey. I'm 65 going on a 9 month trip to thailand. Traveling solo means I need to carry light. I'm looking at getting backpack carry on and personal. I also will be traveling with Cpap bag ugh... If you have not done a video showing carry on with personal front and back same time would be interested to see if there is better personal bag for front carry. I also need carryon light enough to lift over head plane as I have minimal use of 1 hand. Love your videos

Why didn't you mention the forclaz 25l foldable backpack? It's got everything, even laptop sleeve and a hip strap. Laptop sleeve may be used for hydration system or you can put a foam sitting pad inside and get some padding for you back(the one that sells in decathlon works perfect, and you will always have some sit with you on your hiking).

The Matador is near perfect. They should’ve ditched the zipper on the exterior stretch pocket. The zipper limits what you can put in there, kind of negates the purpose of a stretch pocket… I wish it was just a stretchy mesh pocket.

@@PackHacker Nothing fancy. Just a decent size messenger back that packs down flat into the bottom of a travel backpack. Main compartment that can fit a 13-14 inch laptop with a bit of padding (like their Go pack) and an external quick access pocket is all this thing would need. Maybe a small water bottle holder on the side? I'm a big fan of Aer stuff, but I prefer to use a messenger back as a walkaround bag when I'm out traveling vs. a backpack.

used my eddie bauer stowaway packable 30l backpack for over 10 years. it held up well until recently when i put a box inside which damaged the zip. now researching for a new packable 30l backpack....or perhaps buying back the same eddie bauer. the only thing i didnt like about it was the strap was very thin and my shoulders would be tired from days of use. what i love about it is that is really unstructured so it usually looks small until its filled with shopping goodies/groceries by the end of the day. does anyone has a recommendation for lightweight 30l packable backpack?

@@PackHacker I have used it every day for 6 weeks last summer in thailand and cambodia during the monsoon including a two day hike in the jungle. it's super light, if you want to bring it with you but not carrying it, it fits in the packable sling pouch from decathlon. it has a belt if you are carrying more heavy stuff. the outside mesh pocket is usefull to carry a big bottle of water or wet stuff, the two side pockets can carry small botlle of water but i used one as a trash and the other to carry a micro umbrella (from decathlon also), you can carry a some clothes or things you buy at the market in the main compartment. the outside pouch becom an inner pocket where you can put sunglasses or lights , anythings you don't want to loose at the bottom of your bag, the outside pocket on your back where you are supposed to put a computer or a foam pad is nice to put things you want easy access while being a little protected like a book guide. it has no shape which means it takes no volume on your back which is convenient when you walk among a crowd. it has two loops on the front so you can hang two plastic bags to carry additionnal bottles of water. so even with 3x1,5l of water you still haven't used your main compartment. it perfectly suits my need and is so light that I don't care carrying if empty.

I used it for 6 weeks as a daily bag in thailand and cambodia during monsoon last summer, including a 2 days trek in the jungle in mondolkiri. It's light weight, if you want to bring it with you but don't want to carry it you can pack it in the packable sling pouch from decathlon It's super lightweight, it has no shape so doesn't take volume when in a crowd, it has a belt for more heavy stuff, the outer pouch becomes an inner pocket for sunglasses or a light or anything you don't want to loose at the bottom of the bag. The outer mesh pocket is great for wet stuff, the two lateral mesh pocket are supposed to be for small bottles but I use one as a trash and I put a micro umbrella(from decathlon too) in the other. The outer pocket on your back is supposed to be for computer or foam pad but is great for things you need easy access but with some protection like a book guide. You can put lots of stuff in the main compartment, like clothes or things from the market, it has two loops on the front so you can hang plastic bags and carry easily 2x1,5l of water, plus 1,5l in the mesh pocket you have 4,5l of water and you haven't used your main compartment. This bag fits perfectly my need.
