10 PERFECT Snub Nose Revolvers for Self Defense

When it comes to protecting yourself and your loved ones, nothing quite compares to a poymer framed, striker fired micro compact 9mm pistol. If you're in the market for an EDC, getting an FN Reflex, or a SIG P365 is a complete no brainer.
But snub nose revolvers can’t be overlooked. These little powerhouses pack a punch that'll make a bad guy twice. With their unwavering reliability, ease of use, and lightning-fast response, these small-framed revolvers are a perfect fit for your holster.
And because revolvers don’t have a slide, if they ever fail to fire, you only need to pull the trigger again until they do. Granted, they have terrible ammo capacity, but the .357 Magnum is nothing to scoff at, and there are plenty of snub nose models these days that have a cylinder capacity of 7 or 8 rounds, making them more appealing.
In this video, I’ll talk about what I believe are the Best Snub Nose Revolvers for self defense.

I’ve had the no lock 340PD as an EDC for several years but keep +P in it for faster and more accurate follow up shots. My circumstances require the lightest pocket revolver available and this works nicely. Shooting full house magnum loads feels like catching a 95 MPH fastball without a glove.

For years it was S&W 686 357 magnum snub, then the Ruger SP101 357 magnum was my carry for years. Then I got my SS Kimber K6s as my EDC with it’s beautiful craftsmanship and reliability with night sights and it’s capacity of 6 shots of 357 magnum or 38 spl.+P and also hammerless covering “ALL” my favorite options!#Kimber#K6s#357magnum#6-shot#Snub❤

I carry the Smith and Wesson M&P 340 NO INTERNAL LOCK model as my backup gun. It's the same as the 340PD but it has a stainless steel cylinder instead of a titanium cylinder so it is a little more robust and 2 ounces heavier than the 340PD. I have the Crimson Trace Lasergrips on it and that in combination with its XS Sights 24/7 Tritium Night front sight that it comes with makes it surprisingly accurate for a snubnose revolver. I do carry full power 125 grain .357 Magnum ammunition in it. Recoil doesn't really bother me much, and with only five shots in it, I want each one to carry plenty of punch.

This video brought to you by Ruger and S&W. Madman may disagree, but this video shows no other alternatives, and frankly there are some damn good pistols out there, that new cost a third of the price of Ruger and S&W, and I would put them up against those guns in your picks, any day. I have a Rock Island revolver that while I personally hate the kick, and web numbing of my hand, it is as accurate for the size of the barrel as any of the Ruger or S&W mentioned guns ... my Rossi isn't a snub nose, but is a spectacular, accurate, and rugged revolver.

9 mm makes a lot of sense in 9 mm. Military Arms Channel had a video that shows that 9 mm out of shory barrels are very efficient. Remington makes 9 mm short barrel defense ammo. S&W 9mm revolvers but they tend to be expensive as they are limited run series

An Astute idea for sure, but I don't plan on collecting different kinds of ammunition. Also I'm sure 38 is nearly the same size, but I do not feel like risking a squib round. So in my eyes getting a different gun defeats the point of the ask. But I am no gun expert so... idk@@cageannette625
@stever8776
@stever8776 10 месяцев назад
@@cageannette625 Military Arms Channel did a comparison between 9 mm snubnose revolvers and .38 special. The 9 mm won hands down! Plus Remington makes special ammunition for short barreled handguns. Full moon clips make reloads much faster. Compared to speed loaders. Most people have the manual dexterity that make putting rounds into the clips that they are no problem. While removing the spent rounds can be a pain. But a de-mooning tool is not that expensive. Unfortunately S&W only makes small runs in 9mm. But they sell for a premium on the used market. As those in the know appreciate the increase in velocity. And the wider choice in defense ammo in 9 mm. Cheers

I still content that .38 spl is a better round. Yes the ammo most get is Wimpy. So hello Buffaloe Bore, Under wood, double tap etc.. As we all know, a side arm really is best, when it gives you time to get to a shotgun with double ought Buck shot, or a Rifle. my top favorite pistol caliber is a .41 magnum.

double action is actually better for a beginner, because strikerfires are known for questionable triggers, like Glock. not to mention, jams happen once in awhile with 9mm. in other words you have to be extra careful and cautious, but you'll never get that with a revolver. how do i know, I've own 5 throughout my life. i can take a revolver to the range, and not have to worry about anything. but i never go to the range to shoot 9mm, without shielding, because there are cheaply made 9mm handguns out there, but you get what you pay for a revolver. if you ever hear of accidental related death, it's caused from a 9mm. but it's impossible to have a misfire with a revolver, because you have to pull the trigger back. most revolvers are double-action, but some are single action. either way you look at it, the breaking point is further back, therefore it's a longer pull, but it's not like you can't shoot it. with 9mm, you have to have some practice, because most 9mm don't have a safety, in the traditional sense like a 1911. instead it's with the trigger itself, so for a beginner i wouldn't recommend any 9mm, until you get more experience. with a revolver, you can put it a small one in your pock and forget it's even there.

@@ResidentGunNutI would be inclined to accept your challenge if we could settle on some practical definitions. For example, a S&W K frame 357 with a 2.75" barrel (Models 19, 66 and others) might technically fit someone's definition of a snub nose revolver, but would be only borderline practical in the context of this video. And to discuss short barrels while displaying 4-5" barreled firearms is, at the very least, disingenuous. And a S&W N frame, even with a 2" barrel, can hardly be described as a snubbee.

@@shastaham7630 no need to overcomplicate things. a snubnose is a revolver that has a 3-inch barrel or shorter. now whether or not a particular model (e.g. an N-frame with a 2-inch barrel) could be easily carried concealed is an entirely different matter.

.357 snub ain't for everybody. Old folks with arthritis, persons (some women) with small or weak hands. Some .357's have a recoil that has to be felt to be believed. Good choice for concealed carry, older Charter Arms .44 bulldogs. Stay away from the time they were called "Charco", real pieces of junk. They'll throw a big old 200 - 240 grain round down range, with manageable recoil. Ammo is a little expensive, but, is out there.

Many years ago, I purchased a Kimber K6s and it was one of those that ended up with a broken firing-pin. I returned it to Kimber and they replaced the pin. Recently I bought a Kimber K6xs and loved it until after 120 rounds of +p (and only dry-firing it using snap-caps) you guessed it, the firing-pin broke. Now, I was worried about using my original K6s with that pin Kimber replaced. I found a website that makes upgraded replacement firing-pins for the Kimber K6s and purchased a replacement pin and had it installed by a gunsmith. I now have that gun working fine and stopped worrying on the reliability factor. Because of the broken pin in the K6xs, I will be returning to purchase another pin (I will not be returning the gun to Kimber) for the K6xs. I am not the only person with a broken firing-pin on my new K6xs, there is another firing-pin break with a K6xs talked about at Buds Guns in the “community” section. I feel safer buying a new well-made pin and paying a gunsmith to put it in than trust Kimber and their firing-pins.

Would it really be too much trouble to show pictures of only the actual snubby versions instead of the longer barrel models. Videos really are not necessary and provide less information rather than more.

Agree --I had a s&w model 637 "airweight" in .38 special. Sold it quickly, as my dominant grip hand would buzz & have tingle sensation after 50 rounds. I know it's not a 'range gun', but I couldn't fire it enough to become familiar with it's shooting characteristics. Replaced with a model 61 stainless in .357 mag, 2.125" (2 & 1/8th inch barrel), combat grip, gutter & blade sight. Awesome bedroom gun, or carry. Looks amazing too 🤩
