For me, two instances come to mind: 1-Menderbug - Hollow Knight: It only has a 2% chance of spawning in the first segment of Forgotten Crossroads. 2-Shiny Pokemon pre-gen 6 (Pokemon games) - Encountering a Pokemon of an alternate color at that time ws about a 1/8192 chance or a 0.01%. Though the odds have been increased in modern generations and several tricks can be used to further make it easier, at that time people would beat the games without finding a single one, with the exception ot the Red Gyarados in Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal and their remakes. There were some other guaranteed shinies, but it would take completing several tasks before obtaining them, so even those could be missed.
Fallout 76 takes place in *West Virginia*, which is an entirely different (but adjacent) state from Virginia. And no one from hereabouts will take kindly to anyone confusing the two.
I'm upset you talked about wow but didn't talk about the time lost proto-drake. I've been looking for that thing since WOLK released in 08 and I've only seen it dead once.
Before the alien update I had always found the flatwoods monster to be the rarest cryptid in the game. Mothman is just annoying. Now as far as it goes for rarest creature in the game, that honor goes to the owlet which only spawns in two places, one of which it dies near instantly thanks to cave crickets.@@Batiel1ownzRS
Today was my brother's first encounter with the Blue Velociraptors in Dino Crisis 2. He's played and beaten the game so many times that it was a surprise when they showed up! Turns out they only spawn on Normal or harder difficulties, and you must have a combo count of 20 or higher in an area where velociraptors spawn, and then go into another area right after that typically spawns raptors.
PinkPuff from Final Fantasy 4. Only shows up on the moon in an easy to miss room, and has a 1 in 64 chance of showing up. I has a similiar 1 in 64 chance in dropping a tail, which you can use to get adamant armor.
I was literally going to add this myself. The worst part is the only room they appear in is extremely bland and ordinary- one chest is in it pretty close to the entrance and exit. Meaning, if you grabbed the loot you likely had no encounter at all and never knew about the creature. And if you did fight it, they were annoying, as they casted berserk and you played on autopilot slowly watching the fight go on, encouraging you to skip this already 1/64 chance fight. But my sorry ass tried to farm their also 1/64 drop for the best armor in the game. Never did get it.
Don’t remember exactly how long I waited farming a mob in EverQuest for J-Boots. Somewhere between 22 - 28 hours, I was pretty delirious by the end of it all. Yeah, I don’t miss MMOs in the slightest.
Could've mentioned the Blue Conjoined Fatty from Isaac. If you're a diehard like me who only does Hard Mode, you can't find this enemy at all on the only two floors they spawn on. Had this entry out of my bestiary for a few years before I got it lol
Poseidus used to take much longer to spawn. Used to take up to several days. There are still a couple of eve rarer, usually mount dropping, monsters out there.
In Diablo 2, Akt 1 there are nests, who spawn little birdlike demons. Once in a while the nests can spawn as an elite group with affixes and everything. I have played thousands of hours of D2 and only encountered this once 😉
Been playing Sea of Thieves now off and on since around early 2019 and to this day have yet to see the shrouded ghost once, or even hear of any of my friends seeing it. Also the World of Warcraft one is kind of confusing, I'm not sure if they just don't know the game like that or what but there are wayy rarer world spawn bosses like timelost protodrake or aeonaxx which have even longer respawn timers and are only lootable by the person that got the kill.
I put in over 1000 hours in Dark Souls, platinumed on 360 and PC, then did it all over again for Remastered, and only saw a vagrant *once*. In the forest, going towards the Moonlight Butterfly, there's an illusionary wall. I went through it on Remastered and one of them spawned there, I freaked the hell out. Here was a demonic crab looking thing that 1000 hours of play told me shouldn't be there. I wish they had made them work a little better, even if just in a sequel, they'd have been great to have more often.
So if you're talking about enemies that can only spawn when interacting with a world in multiplayer, then the nemesis from diablo 3 is pretty rare since it only spawns if someone in your friends list dies and even then it takes a couple hours of playing before one actually shows up
The Mother/Earthbound series has rare encounters throughout each game. The sesame seed in the SNES. And at least one enemy in an early act in M3 on GBA.
I came across the moth man in F76 randomly one time and I got so confused when it nearly instakilled me. Glad to know I really dropped the ball on that one 😂
Being a retro gamer, I only have played FF VII of this list and you could do an entire list on the hidden / hardest to find enemies of just final fantasy games over the years if you wanted :3 Heck NES RPGs for that matter… There’s always one enemy that only shows in one area in every one of those games with a less than 10% chance. Warmech, Tyranosaur, Brachiosaur, Chimera (8 version), Tonberry (10 version), and Simugh to name just a few! :3
WarMech can make a mess of you if you're not ready, too. I back-and-forthed the map it was on for almost an hour only for it to stomp me. Didn't get me the second time, but still. And that 3/64 spawn rate is redonk.
As a person who has the title Hunter of the Shrouded Ghost I can vouch for its rarity...I meet day 1 players constantly tht comment on the fact they have never seen it and find pirates that have is just as rare.
@TrumpisTheRootOfAllEvil No that also spawned for me it was So Large that You only Had Like its Leg on Screen Right ? That was in 1999 when i played it.
Shikigami weapon, ffxi spawned invisible with 22 hour respawn timer for an extra f u to the player also dropped the best summoner body piece in the game till the hat urgahn expansion
FF7 - Years ago, and not until after I had played FF7 the first time did I even know about the Ghost Ship. Its the monster you need to morph to find a way to turn off Emerald Weapons timer. The tunnels the Ghost Ship is in can be traversed without even being attacked once so I had no idea what it was until I accidentally came across it in a walkthrough. I consider that one missable and uncommon, which sucks considering its an awesome enemy design. Most people know about it now that play and love FF7 but it wasnt always that way. FF4(2 in NA) - The Pink Puff (SNES). Only findable in the last dungeon in one room and nearly impossible to get to spawn, you then have to hope they also drop the Pink Tail, one of the most elusive items in gaming history imo. That item can be formed into the adamantium armor. To this day I have never fought them, and if you didnt know about them, likely the most missed enemy in any Final Fantasy. I only knew of the Pink Tail item due to the game's manual. For years it confused me, I didnt understand where this thing was....its understandable I didnt find out about how for a long long time. Thanks WC! I hope you do another list like this 🙂
About the SNES game the Alert/Siren items for a 100% Pink Puff encounter do NOT exist and its NOT even a 1% rate in the remakes IF you do NOT own/use any.
Thought I knew everything about OG FF7, have never seen that killbit or whatever it’s called! Holy shiiiiet! Did encounter a scorch mothman in 76 on my own too, was too low level to kill it. Got a pic tho
I have thousands of hours on the seas and i have yet to see the shrouded ghost. Not counting the one that was part of an event that ridnt count for the rare title.
I got an old one for fallout 76 its been patched to not be as scary. The robots of watoga turn neutral after the quest mayor for a day but kill all the robots in the city and the hit squad will be sent out to kill you it used to be nothing but overpowered legendary Mr gutsy bots.
Always thought i was nuts cause no one else id met who finished ff7 had ever seen a damn killbin i got it like 3 different playthroughs on the original ps1 version. And posidus for wow really.....not really a rare mount farm just one thats farmed alot could have gone for so many different mounts like time lost proto drake, invicibile from the lich king, mimirons head from ul'dar, the green proto drake from either dungeon bags or eggs from sholozar basin or hell how about go real old school and Barrons mount from original wow that things got a ridiculous low drop rate that someone who played since vanilla to bfa has never seen it drop and i used to do 45 min baron runs. (Just a short list of mounts off the top of my head )
I’d love to see a commenters edition. Putting my hat in the ring while they aren’t TECHNICALLY enemies Shiny Pokémon have a horrible spawn rate and you encounter them to catch or KO so while technically not an enemy they still have encounter chances that’ll make you give up trying.
@@Saddonghussein could’ve! Very well could’ve if you’ve ever shiny hunted. Things go wrong. They KO you or you fail it altogether. I’m the process of catching they can flee, KO themselves and or KO your team.
I found a shiny Electrike in Omega Ruby completely by accident. It was my first shiny ever and luckily caught it. I had no shiny charm too so it's very rare.
Mothman is a rare spawn? You're kidding right? In the like 40 hours ive played of 76 he scared me shitless *7 TIMES* i have no idea what i did to make him hate me considering i only played 76 with my friend (i personally do not like the game. I found it to be an awful fallout game) and only walked around collecting junk to build stuff!
The fallout 76 one isn't correct. I've only played a small amount of this game and even I've seen the server wide announcements when these things are coming.
@@PhaRoaH87 it happened to me twice 😭😭. One time I knew I was in for a fight but the other time I just popped in for some quick rares and to rest and I hear that fresh meat thing. First time he wrecked me. Second time I got him but it took all my heals and it was down to the wire. And not even any great gear. I stopped going into cellars so much after that
@@PhaRoaH87 I didn't make it to the end game. 101 hours in and I'm two quests from the end. It's fine but it got mad repetitive and better games came out. Honestly sea of stars got me off of it
Hun? Never played a souls game before, and Ring was pretty easy. Helped I went a summon spirits and dragon incantations. Some bosses took a dozen trys, but was surprised when most were single shots.
Elden Ring isn't that hard even without cheats or exploits it's just trial and error same way Bloodbourne is. Both have their charms if ER Isn't for you don't blame the game or make invalid claims. It's ok to not be good at a game. Maybe try playing with a friend it at least makes the experience better.
