Black Panther's eyesore of a finale wasn't the VFX artists' fault. For more awesome content, check out: whatculture.com/ Follow us on Facebook at: / whatculture Catch us on Twitter: / whatculture
Lando wearing Han's clothes: I always thought it was bcuz Lando left Cloud City in a hurry and didn't have time to pack, and Han's clothes were available in storage on the Millennium Falcon. He used Han's temporarily until his own outfit, the only one he had with the disco pants, puffy shirt and cape, came back from the cleaners...
Alternately, it was to show Lando moving to be part of the team, take Han's place for a bit, or in honor of his pseudo-dead friend. (And his old outfit is HECK to pilot in).
Was delaying Black Panther even an option? Infinity War was going to come out 2 months later, and in the theater I worked at we still had showings for BP when it came out. Delay BP a month and you're risking having your own properties provide competition for each other.
And since people will obviously chose infinity war the film that had over a decade of buildup for it over this new film everyone would have seen that and been confused when they go there since the first time we see wakanda is in black panther
Well, they could have easily delayed Black Panther by a month or 2 as long as they delayed any other Marvel movies coming out that year. People have mentioned that if they delayed Black Panther there would be overlap with Infinity War. They could have avoided the overlap by pushing back Infinity War's release date.
Born in 82 and Star Wars was a huge part of our lives. Not until I saw the family guy joke did I ever think twice about the Lando thing because I actually always assumed it was what people who fly ships like that just wore on the regular. Guess I was right.
What would really piss people off is when they see the behind-the-scenes footage and see both Chadwick Boseman and Michael B Jordan in actual battle suits!!! My wife looked at me and said what the, why would they put cartoons looking CG over the actual suits? They did the same thing and Avengers endgame with their time travel suits. They were just out of control is all.
6:05 can someone PLEASE redo these VFX with today's technology? I would love a re-release of this movie but with the highest graphical fidelity possible for this film. It would then make owning the movie so much more worthwhile.
The MAIN criticism I'VE heard/seen/had about Black Panther was "War Rhinos" being used by what is supposed to be the most technologically advanced country on the MCU's Earth! Using animal mounts, especially endangered ones made no goddamned sense!
8:27 Is that a clown painting in the background? Only caught a glimpse of it but it gave me Gacy vibes. Though the internet may have just messed up my brain
When Cory takes Michael's mask, I was happy I didn't go see that in theaters. Because I would have audibly raged and left the theater but with a cracked laugh because I was broken...
Another interesting fact about Street Fighter is Raul Julia's costume being obviously too large for him. We all know now that he had the stomach cancer, which made him lose a lot of weight. So one might question why they didn't adjust is costing to fit better. It's because he lost weight so quickly, there was no time to resize him. You can actually see in some parts of the movie where the costume does fit a little bit better. But in the fights it especially, it is noticeably way too big. So tragic.
I'm more than happy to accept that it's just me but, in avengers endgame does anyone else hear Tony stark say "the bleaker street magician gave away the 'store' " instead of the 'stone'? It bugs me every time I watch the film and as far as I can tell, nobody else talks about it! Anyone else hear store instead of stone?
Dutch angles: Psychlos are just Batman villains. I'm surprised no one has seen it before. Lando's outfit: Wouldn't it be simpler to say he left everything behind on Cloud City and Han's wardrobe was all he had access to? Seems much simpler to me. Star Trek V: my theory has been that the budget ran out after Yosemite. Top Gun: people called it "too gay" because of the sex scene? Not the beach scene? That's not real. Is it? I don't know how to give a cheeky like, so this is just a normal one. Is that okay?
10. Battlefield Earth (All The Dutch Angles) 9. The Irishman (Frank's Old-Man Beating) 8. Dawn Of The Dead (Pink Blood) 7. The Empire Strikes Back (Why Lando Wears Han's Clothes) 6. Mortal Kombat : Annihilation (Hideous Animalities) 5. Street Fighter (Guile And Bison's Clunky Fight) 4. Star Trek V : The Final Frontier (The "Janky" God Effects) 3. Top Gun (The Corny Sex Scene) 2. The Matrix Resurrections (The Lackluster Cinematography) 1. Black Panther (The Awful Final Battle)
I reckon that Annihilation tested so well because everyone assumed it was gonna have better special effects on release, so judged it more on everything else. If the producers had bothered to ask them, that may have been what they were told, but jumped the gun because they thought they could cut corners.
Yeah, the Street Fighter fighting with Bison couldn't have had anything to do with the fact that Raul was in the throws of end stage cancer, or anything like that.
7:43 "...save for the late, great, Raul Julia's performance as M. Bison, of course." The way this sentence is phrased, I am legitimately curious as to whether or not this was an intentional reference to the M.Bison "of COURSE!" meme. Either way...kudos.
I thought Lando was being. goof. “Look at me! I’m in my friend’s ship! Now I’m wearing his cloths! What fun! Laugh with me and marvel how I look better in them than Solo!”
"There's one big reason why Resurrections was so disappointing. " Yeah, it's because the waichowski sisters assumed being trans would be enough to guarantee success.
Ive come to emjoy that when im watching a movie in theaters these days ...i can pin point the scenes im gonna be seeing talked about in youtubes videos ..... i may need a life
Part of the issue with Black Panther is visual effects studios bidding too low. They take the job at a loss trying to make a name for themselves. Then when they can’t handle what they agreed to, they blame Disney.
'Star Trek V is without question the worst of all the Trek movies' - definitely not after Abrams got his mitts on the franchise, and its bad repute has a lot to do with a Get-Shatner attitude, even though he had better ideas than a lot of others who handled it
In my opinion the killmonger chtalla fight was bad because of the impossible camera movements. That's why it looked like a game scene in the first place.
Audience expectations are like deluded fantasies, they're still not happy when they get what they demanded. Look at the scream community who can't accept that Stu is dead. Audiences have lost the ability to enjoy movies.
Street Fighter The Movie is so bad its good though ... also ... although julia was terminally ill during the shooting of Street Fighter its clear that not only did he have a great time chewing ALL the scenery -- he was also given what are basically the best lines in the entire script (apart from hearing van damme's rousing speach to the troops ... you know the one "im gonna kick dat sunofabitch bisons ass so hart" ... etc)
Matrix Resurrections may not have had as good special effects as Matrix Revolutions, but it was a better film. The third Matrix movie was terrible so being better is a rather low bar.
@PrinceIsot mad? Not even a little bit. Its just dumb and out of place. But couple that with ignoring the fact that Africans sold slaves then and still today. The whole system of the supposed "monarchy". It's a monarchy but they fight random guys to keep it. Except Tchalla's mom who just got to be queen later on. But more importantly America is terrible but we (Wakanda) are super rich and technology advanced and we ignore the plight of neighboring countries so much that we hid the entire country behind and invisible shield. I wonder if we'll ever see other races represented in Wakanda like we do in Asgard. Some how I doubt it. 😉
What's even worse is that we have already seen how physical DeNiro was in his 40s and in his 50s . A lot of images from his past films are literally burned into our minds so to see his character move like that, it instantly takes you out of the film because you see your grandparents move like that. 😂😅
Was very interested in The Irishman given its great cast, but saw the infamous fight scene first and decided to give the movie a hard pass; making me as lazy and misguided as the director. Q: is that scene integral to the story arc, or could it be skipped entirely?
I remember going to a Best Buy a little after Black Panther came out while looking at TV's. Unfortunately, they were using that scene to showcase the TV's which made both look bad...It showed just how awful the effects were in 4k, while also making the TV look bad by showing such an awful display.
Star Trek V: For me, the annoying part was the scene when the shuttlecraft makes a crash run to board the Enterprise. The exterior shot of the shuttlecraft hitting its boosters looks like a little kid playing with a toy.
Yeah, the "god" effect was no big deal for me, as (decades-long spoiler alert) it wasn't really a god of any kind. The rest of the effects bothered me much more.
In Star Wars Ep.4, don't know if it's CGI or something else, but the halo ring when the Death Star blows up wasn't necessary. What I think happened was that Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country had that effect at the beginning when the Klingon moon Praxis blew up, sending out the massive shock wave that got the attention of Federation starships like the Excelsior. Lucas probably saw that and said, "Looks cool, let's do that in the Special Edition." If the Death Star was exploding because of its main reactor being torpedoed, wouldn't it explode more or less spherically, sending energy and debris in all directions?
That halo ring was added by Lucas when he "improved" the original movies. He just couldn't pass up the chance to ruin the classics he accidentally created.
Given the video games they were based on, Streetfighter and Mortal Combat were perfectly apt movie adaptations. Super Mario Bros went off the f@cking rails tho! 😵😖🤯
The Dawn of the Dead blood had me like "I learned from Dexter that corn syrup and food dye are the best substitute" and then it reveals that the secret formula is indeed corn syrup and food dye 😅
Marvel certainly deserves criticism in some areas. Marvel does not deserve criticism for not simply pushing Black Panther's release date back a few months. that is a 50+ million dollar marketing decision or more. then it either collides with Infinity war, or they are forced to move infinity war back several months, because it doesn't make sense unless , which means Ant Man and the Wasp has to be moved out several months. All of these cost moneys, and put some releases into perhaps less ideal release windows. You are saying Marvels should takes Hundreds of millions of dollars, maybe half a billion dollars of losses because the Producer/Director failed to deliver that quality scene in the time frame necessary. The problem as described in your case seems to be they recognized far to late that the VFX company they hired couldn't deliver what was needed, and then the pivot to the second company took too long.
@@dhenderson1810 Yeah when you have too many things too tightly interdependent it's only a matter of time before everything falls apart when there's one small setback. It's cool and fancy as long as everything is going according to plan.
I always thought Lando was simply needing clothes as he left Cloud city without any luggage. So being he and Had were of similar build he just wore Han's clothes.
If we're talking about Star Trek, how about all of the lens flares that ruined the J.J. Abrams movies. It was almost unwatchable. I watched the Mortal Kombat movie in a hotel room. For some reason, the movie stopped just before the movie was about to end, so I missed the last few minutes. I still don't know exactly how it ends. The black panther fight scene was by far the worst part of the movie and the most confusing. It's kind of Star Wars-ish in tone.
The movie-making decision that gets on my nerves is the writing decision that brings back Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman 1984. If he's going to be brought back with magic, why on earth would the writers choose to bring him back, but possessing the body of some random guy?! This leads to a discussion about consent since Diana has sex with the unwilling host's body. If magic is how he returns just... have him return. "How is Steve alive?!" "Magic." Simple!
In the thumbnail, I'm reminded of the Cylon Centurion getting punched and then the newer Centurion shooting the older one. As for poor Tom and Kelly having to reshoot stuff for Top Gun, I really feel bad for them. There should have been some way to fix it, but it was the 1980's, sex sells.
WhatCulture, please consider putting in a list of chapters with movie titles in the description so that those of us who are spoilerphobes or simply haven't yet seen a movie can watch with skips if necessary. Sometimes the chapter titles give away major plot points so I'll skip entire videos just to be on the safe side.
Maybe he wanted to embarrass DeNiro for his “I’ll punch Trump in the mouth” comment. That scene shows how fragile DeNiro really is and how comical it would be to see old Bob DeNiro throw a punch. I thought he was gonna fall over the curb and break a hip
