Great video. Not too long and not to short. And, you said it all. Minimalism is a way of life and once you attain it living is easier. You don't have to think twice before making purchasing, just make it something worthwhile and keep it. Replace things, don't add to them.
A friend of mine a few years ago told me about her experiences preparing her parents' house for sale after they had died. Her mother had passed years before, and now her father had recently passed after a long lifetime. So now she was clearing, cleaning, and repairing the house to get the best price. One thing that she came across was a journal her mother had kept as a child, which opened a window into her mother's world, history, and character that she had no other way of knowing. My friend is a writer, specifically of children's books, so this was of even more value to her. Getting rid of even cringey documentation of our personal history may not be the wisest thing. Better to put it away in a Memory Box or save an image of the pages electronically than to just wipe it from existence. YOU may not have a use for it, but someone sometime else may find that history valuable. I'm assuming you have already decided against having children, who might otherwise find documents from your own childhood fascinating, reassuring, and/or insightful for a number of reasons... While these writings may no longer have any bearing on your current life, you can't know what they could mean to others. I wholly support the notion of minimalism, and I think it's something we need more of. That being said, how many minimalists will pass from this earth leaving no mark of their having been here? Their existence will have been like grasses cut from the lawn, invisible.
I'm glad you've had all these realizations but please do not think going shopping or anything makes you a "bad person." Yes, you want to be cautious of not making impulsive choices or being irresponsible with your money, but buying things (especially if it gives you dopamine) is normal for humans to do. You are not a "bad person" for being human :)
Thank you. Came to say the same thing. And also that when you have a platform like this and say things like that you put that idea into other peoples heads and not everyone has the strength to not internalize that and start believing it.
