With the launch this week of the DCS World Heatblur F14B Grumman Tomcat, many will rush out at mach 2 to buy it.
THE TOP 10 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD NOT buy THE HEATBLUR F14B GRUMMAN TOMCAT
when it comes to the f14 tomcat, made famous by the movie TopGun, starring Tom Cruise and val Kilmer as Maverick and Iceman, I'm just as susceptible as any other kid from the era to its sleek 1980s charm, those powerful turbofan engines and its dodi di di dan, danger zone coolness
But is the Heat blur f14b mod for DCS worth your time and money?

1 it's complicated as all hell. this isn't just a jump in and fly kind of situation. look at the list you need to rehearse just to take off! this is quite a complex simulation. in fact, it's exactly the same as a real tomcat. so don't expect to jump in and be firing aim9s with ease. there's a learning curve here.
2 once you hop you can't stop.
assuming you make it through rookie school and get the thing off the deck, you have a good chance of falling deeply in love with this. it could be tough to put the game down - so you may need to seek out support groups to unhook yourself from the addiction.
3 you need friends.
now you have a full-blown new addiction to contend with, so you can kiss goodbye to all but your closest of friends .
fortunately, the f14 is a multiseat aircraft and takes two to tango. but don't worry if you can't find someone to fly with you, you'll be able to make great friends with your Rio. jester.
4 it's attention to detail is too glorious
flying a simulated aircraft is hard enough, but you might find this even more difficult given the attention to detail n this F14 is stupendous. just look at those buttons and switches. incredible.
5 it's impossible to pull a 4g inverted dive with a mig28
top gun pilots have confirmed the tomcat could perform the 4g inverted dive maneuver completed by Maverick in top gun, even if it did exceed the aircraftS 2.4g IMPOSED limits -
but the real issue you will face is the mig 28 didn't actually exist. it was a fictional aircraft -and was just an American f5 painted black
6 if you do a flyby of an admirals tower you won't get to date penny, Benjamin.
alas, unlike Maverick, no matter how many control tower flybys you complete in the game it's unlikely to net you any ladies. well unless you find that extra special girl who really takes a shine towards your in-game bad boy antics.
7 you need to read the manual.
just look at how detailed this amazing manual is. it's even got videos for you to watch. woah
8 this is a real man's jet.
when questioned what the difference was between an f14 and the f18 hornet that replaced it, a pilot once answered, " the f14 was like a muscle car, the f18 was like a suburban SUV. one was rough gruff and tough whereas the other was air-conditioned, had a CD player and has heated seats. great for a around town but, which would you take to fight?
9 you might throw up
like Tom Cruise did when filming the first top gun.
The producers of top gun insisted on placing cameras and pilots in real cockpits for the filming of the film - but unfortunately, 90% of the footage was unusable as the actors including cruise, couldn't stop throwing up and the quality of the footage too low. With VR support and powerful turns at your beck and call in the game, you may too take home a barfta award.
