MG kits are the reason I fell in love with Gunpla. My first kit was MG Wing Zero Custom back in 2009, and it was a phenomenal experience.

I completely agree, Bandai on the other hand...

I mostly build 1/144 HGs and RGs but after building the MGEX Strike Freedom and MG Freedom 2.0 I started to build more MGs.

MG is perfect for a solo display flying of in a combat pose like a possible statue. But HG and RG are best for large battle scene displays sure it gets cluttered. But it shows the look of a intense battle.

Since the very low MG release, I've been building 3rd party semi metal build kits. In Era+ is a definite recommendation if you haven't tried building a 3rd party 1/100 yet, also try SNAA/Supernova. Super robot style would be Motor Nuclear

I want to keep it short but it’s awesome seeing gunpla become so popular in other parts of the world and mecha I think you have a big place in that. I remember watching when you have within the tens of thousands of subs and now you’re close to breaking half a million. Congrats man and thank you for what you do. It’s good for the hobby and great content.

The one Master Grade I've ever built (ecopla barbatos) was an absolute delight! I really hope that someday I'll be able to build some MG gundam witch kits as good as the barbatos was.

Of course I like the bigger size of MG kits. But one thing I unexpectedly really love about them is the inner frames. I just like having a whole other layer to build, finish and paint under the armor plates. Even if I don't pose any kits without armorm I just really enjoy the process of working on its inner frame.

Let me take this opportunity to ask mecha to please review more older MG kits. They are more on the market now and sone of them are very different, fun, and holds up fine. In desperation for MG kits i bought zgok, ball, acguy and they are all fun . I would love reviews on other older kits( and lets be honest i would still view reviews of kits i already built)....

1/100 is the superior grade. Also; Give us a MG Woundwort and Tallgeese 2.0, bandai! please!

If I know someone is going to only ever build one kit I always say MG........but if you are going to build an army HG, especially for grunt suits. MG barely bothers with grunt suits anymore.

Nice review! I got a MG Hi Nu many years ago and recently saw the RG Hi Nu and started regretting getting the MG, but maybe not so much anymore :)

Seriously with every model I acquire, I cut out the box top and collect it. I've got at least a drawer stacked full of the model "covers." It is a practice I began just a few years ago when my Gundam model compulsion really took off. Now I find myself building models from series I've never even heard of simply because they look interesting. Addictions cam manifest in many different forms. It's wild, but this is one of the healthier variety of neuroticisms I grapple with

I have a lot of MG kits, but I have a lot I haven't built because they're so much of a commitment for me. I personally love cracking open a HG and building it in a night. much more satisfying to me.

Their use of the term "gimmick" definitely more aligns with "feature" or "look at our engineering master at making this mechanism that should be there in the real thing actually work."

my personal affection has gone to Endless Waltz mastergrades, however i started my entry into the hobby with 1/144 scale, a sinanju red comet RG. i found over time that 144 scale is just not easy for me to work with at all, i broke the head V of my wing zero RG just by cutting it from the runner, it folded over when i went to remove it after cutting. I have only gotten two master grades thus far, Tallgeese and Deathscythe, but i absolutely love them. My plan is to get Shenlong, Sandrock, Wing Zero (the non-angelwinged version), Heavyarms and Epyon in the same scale over time, along with deathscythe hell because i have ALWAYS loved that EW design. Not sure what i plan to do after i complete my main Wing/EW cast, but i know im gonna have a blast

My first kit was in 2008 from Gundam Seed, Strike Gundam in 1/100. After that I continued to buy some kits in 1/100. Other sizes were added later.

As a person who has almost no space for display, for whom most completed kits sit in boxes in a cupboard, I want to share how it's not the scale that matters, it's what you want to do with your kits. I loved building all the grades but end up displaying the kits I love the most. Currently it happens to be an RG Zaku, a PG zaku, a 1/ 100 Aerial, and a HG Scopedog. Honestly it's the level of love you have for a kit that males it good and I've loved some MGs and loathed some MGs. Same for every other grade.

I love MG, but I like RG MUCH more than MG mainly because they are SO much more mobile, posable, and flexible. Plus RG has (in my opinion) more collaborations.

The fact that the FAZZ Ver.Ka exists is enough evidence that MG is the best grade.

I'm definitely in the "won't throw out the MG box" camp- Not just because of the amazing cover art, but since the boxes are good for storing non-displayed accessories/extra parts and almost always can fit the built kit inside if you need to transport it somewhere. It's a waste of both cardboard and convenience to get rid of them, really!

Just built the Zeta ver ka. What a kit, I can stand in front of the shelf admiring it for hours.

I love MG! Personally was always disappointed with HG with their small scale and lack of detail, but MG always satisfied me. I like that MG feels more complete and the right scale for a figure

I completely agree with this list. MG is by far my favorite. I mainly build MG and the occasional PG. Ver Ka is also my favorite type of MG. I have quite a few, but my favorite build so far is the Sazabi ver Ka special coating limited edition. It took me about 80 hours to build and finishing that build was so satisfying. Not recommended for beginners.

So, I built Gunpla a long time ago, 20ish years ago, between 2000-03. Then I got into Transformers. 1/144 is about a Deluxe class Transformer figure, the MG 1/100 is roughly the size of a Voyager class Transformer. I've recently built a few kits, and the MG Epyon took slightly less time than the RG Freedom. Master Grade, if found on a decent sale like at Hobby Lobby is worth it imo, as I've paid way more for a Transformer for less of an experience. If that makes sense.

at this point the MG line is now the PG line, serving as a big gunpla event coz bandai nowadays would rather just pump out 1/100 kits that aren't MGs

The MG box art is a lot like the old Airfix kits. That is to say, everyone is a story unfolding in front of you, whether its a GM getting blown up and the suit in the box has the odds getting worse. Completely compareble on the airfix box is a B17 surrounded by 109's, it's got an engine on fire and the tail gunner has clearly met his maker and you have no idea if the bomber is going to get home. They just grab you and draw you in, stick it in a book and people will gave at them for hours

I started with MG and stick with MG. I got 200 plus P-bandai, and normal MG kits 100+ already. Mg is life!❤️

My strike noir from the mid 2000's still holds up almost 18 years later.

MGs look amazing but kit selection just pales in comparison to HGs. It's the main reason I quit collecting them. I also prefer how most HGs could be completed in a couple hours.

I would tend to agree, but, with how collectable to HG/RG are, I can't take myself away from them. lol

when i'm done with a master grade i tend to mangle the top of the box to only have the front left and use some sticky poster tape to stick it on the wall. plastic model kit and a free awsome poster :P if they could just offer a high resolution scan of all the box art's for use as wallpapers that would be fantastic :P and the only "problem" with master grades shows up when you would like a plastic box to keep the dust off them....then your options start to dry up as car / plane models are much more popular and not nearly as high as a gundam standing up (especially looking at the sazabi ver.ka and the full amor unicorn gundam...and the strike freedom...and with it's wings deployed the wing zero custom also takes up a lot of volume....i got a lotta big boys :P) but after all these years still no MG/MGEX/full mechanics or what is the 3rd option 1/100 kshatriya, cmon bandai your killing me here :P though if that were to come out i might need to hang it from the ceiling or something....

8 is exactly why I don't like the shift to RG. I like the complexity of an MG build but even some MG parts are hard to deal with, and I'm still young, trying to imagine dealing with an RG in 10-20 years and I shutter.

Bro the MG line is so Meh overall. I feel the need to always get conversion kits for them. The rg are so much better as of late and I hate to see the bigger mgs being not as good looking.

I enjoy MGs very much. Always appreciated the details and inner-frame. My personal wishlist would be an MG GM III Unicorn ver. and MG Gaplant Tr-5( most definitely would be p-bandai like the rest of the Hazels).

MG is the best, in the past, decades back, with exception of Ver Ka, a lot of MG inner frame nowadays is just blocks of plastics with pegs and holes, close to no inner details or robotic mechanism. Damn I miss when they made RX-78 and Zaku Ver.2.0, they all out in doing the inner frame.

also MG kits makes you feel powerful in a Gunpla battle in a Build series.

The first couple points definitely the reason why most of my collection are mgs especially ver.kas .. that n when i have company over the first thing they see is the wing zero ver.ka n the usual response is "that ones cool!".. 😅

I agree that MG is a best to collect if you want better details. For me, when I buy them only my favorite mobile suit are needed on my collection

Master Grade is definitely my favorite, partially due to my stupid big hands. While I wish Bandai would make more MG kits, I've really been enjoying building non-Bandai 1/100 kits like the SNAA Blade King and Thunderbolt. Many of the US online shops are starting to carry more of the kits too. Also, I recognize those runners during the Ad read. I really like the kit, even if the color isn't my favorite.

I still haven't gotten a MG kit yet, I've been overly happy with my beautiful RGs. But I think I'm gonna go out of the box (lol) and start with a MG Ball. I'm still waiting for a RG Nobell tho. C'mon Bandai, they would sell like hotcakes!

This used to be my favorite grade. But with seldom telease, decreased of display shelf, i turn to hg and rg. With hg, the time needed to make one is relatively low and the option for custom is more plenty

As much as I love MG's, I can't get them that much cause of my limited space. I only get the ones I really like such as the 00's lineups.

I dont agree its the best anymore, primarily due to shelf space, finances, and lack of standard releases. Lately its been mostly kits I dont care about or already have an older version of and dont care to waste money. I genuinely think RG is the best now. Not only have they continously evolved the kits over the past decade, with incredible build technics, articulation, and detail, but we are seeing them more often now, and even are getting kits from other timelines finally. Most that are available post Strike Gundam I have happily replaced my MG versions with, making profits to basically get the RG for free but also freeing up lots of space on my shelves which I love.

You're absolutely correct MechaG, I have two PG (Unleashed and Perfect Strike) and yet due to space constraint I still enjoy my MG's and are still looking to expand my collection. I have 2 RG, Nu and Hi Nu, highly detailed but tiny, bough the two HG from Hathaway, Penelope and Xi but they lack details.

Bandai needs to go back to regularly release MGs. Now any releases they do is mostly rehashs of older kits on Pbandai. A recommendation to you is check out the Solomon GP02 1/100 Kit. This one can be considered as a MGEX kit in it's complexity and gimmicks.

MG is the best... They're good in size, in which I won't have any trouble with the parts (1/144 parts are small and easily gets lost when assembling or taking a part when you start painting)... It has the inner frame and the cockpit to go along with it... Good articulation in moving the joints for standing or action poses...

I gotta say it. PG Gundam mk II is the best pg I've built, (ive built most of the "recent" pg)

HG SHOULD be the best. Especially kits like the Origin kits to show that they can have similar detail to the rg series, without the finikiness. They should need to add those little details and put better decal options in. I tend to get HG's then if there is a rg of it buy the decals.
