@@leonardsheatravel For like 200 bucks a night or less. You can get a nice condo on the beach. Yep on the beach. I'll be there next month. Can't wait!!
@@leonardsheatravel We are thinking of going the first week of December again for my wife's 40th. Have you been there during that time frame? If so, how was the weather?
Puerto Penasco has been a large part of my life. I started going down there as a kid in the mid-1980s. There was literally nothing down there at the time, it was more like a poor Mexican fishing village with an American minority mobile home gathering nearer the beaches or rocky coasts. My grandfather owned and built a cabin in Cholla Bay in the 1960s! The family and I would always go there and visit, the cabin still stands even today. In the early 2000s, a man named Gus Brown turned Rocky Point into a resort city, and the big towering hotels began to appear around the early 2000s. Rocky Point is the Spring Break getaway for college kids, it's a party every time of the week. All you need is a 24 pack of beer, a gathering, an ATV and you've got the trip of a lifetime.
I've been 3 times, but to the barrio, to help build homes. There is an insane amount of poverty here which isn't a surprise I suppose. The people are genuine and full of love. There are definitely 2 sides to this city, but there are different kinds of beauty in each. There is a very special place in my heart for penasco, both for the authenticity and need for the impoverished, and the beauty of the more mainstream portion of the city.
It's got a lot better. Before the resort phase in the 2000s, the poverty was horrible. It's like three times better now than it was before the 2000s. Before, kids would attack cars with squeegees, leap onto carhoods, to wash a windshield and get a handout. Not anymore.
We have gone there for 20 years, never had anbad time, the people are humble and laid back. The clean beaches and town is nice. The food is great and inexpensive. Try the green smoothies near the train tracks.
I take my ATV and that is my vehicle. Nobody honks a you, 30mph laid back. You can walk to most places. La cholla bay is a must, no waves like a quiet lake. There is clam beds and volcanic mud. Don't want to leave when your there.
Its Name is Puerto Peñasco Mexico OR Sonora Playa . Not arizona beach ,rocky point or anything like that . This is MEXICO NOT U.S So get it Right or go to your miami or wherever you came from .
