You should be paid by these fragrance companies because every time I listen to you you convince me that I need one more bottle of perfume they really need to pay you for all you do.
Addict really doesn’t suck! I have a vintage bottle and I believe a bottle from 2014. Honestly, the difference is only something you notice if it’s your signature scent. I’m happy Dior didn’t make this one into rubbish!
I'm on my third bottle of Pure Poison. My first one was the original bottle I bought when it first came out. I hardly notice any differences. Hope they continue to keep it that way.
Goodness, I never thought of LouLou as a bit of a beast...I used to wear it all the time but I guess against the Opium and Poison I used to wear to go clubbing it was a bit tamer lol x
Love this video idea, your content is always spot on 👌 I must say, as an Opium lover (the perfume, not the substance) that I think YSL made a mistake when they gave it the same name as the original. While I do love the modern version, it is too different (more resinous, a LOT less spicy than the vintage) from the original to be marketed as the same fragrance. If you expect the perfume to be the same or similar to OG opium you may be disappointed, but if you love orientals and Myrrh and are able appreciate the modern one for its own merits and not as a rehash of momma Opium I suspect you will rather like it.
I enjoyed this video Tom. I have always been curious about Eden yet never tried it, I might now. I love Loulou❤💙 and hadn't smelt it for years, but picked up a bottle a few years back and was not disappointed. Noa is another scent from Cacharel which gets a lot of love. It seems perfhaps Cacharel scents tend to hold up fairly well over time and are inexpensive as well.
Lovely information. I'm a lover of Samsara and Bois Des Iles . Sandalwood is my bag. Have you ever used the sandalwood soap called Mysore Sandal Soap? I learned about it on the blog Bois de Jasmin. It contains authentic sandalwood from Mysore. It's actually a really great soap and it smells wonderful. I get it on Amazon. Thank you for all your videos. They help me unwind after work. You've introduced me to several gorgeous scents that now reside in my collection.
I wish I could smell the vintage Opium. My mum told me it was her signature scent in the early 80s and it was so strong that people could smell her from the other side of the street...
Kandake Amanirenas I am an 80s girl,and opium was one of my favorite fragrances,i have had the re-formulation and i have to disagree with Tom on this one,in my opinion it is no where near as good as the original. I managed to purchase a sealed vintage bottle off ebay,and as soon as i sprayed it i was transported back to those days,it is truly amazing,it is only an edt and lasts longer than the current edp formulation. It is truly a magical fragrance as were many of the perfumes of the 80s and it is well worth your time and effort trying to get an original bottle!
I don’t really know.. but knowing how the world works in other departments such as healthy and food industry, I wonder if the problem were the allergens or the new shiny and patented aroma chemicals that the industry of flavours and fragrances wanted to put into the market.

Excellent video, Thomas, thank you! I love the newer Lou Lou, it's gorgeous. I prefer the original Addict as well but the current formulation is still a really good quality perfume.
I do also agree if we are talking the reformulation and not the new release of 2019 (in a new different bottle) which I can not say anything about because I haven't smelled it. However I do own an older version and one that I purchased this year which are quite different. This years' version, which I am afraid has been discontinued to be replaced by the new formula mentioned above, is so much more floral compared to the older version and I very much prefer it. I am very curious about the new releases too. Grès still makes some great scents. Cabotine is another one.
@@ergastiripetra1209 The current EDP smells like the bottom of my cigarette-smoking mom's purse circa 1963. Maybe I'd do better with the EDT? Afraid to try, hahaha.
@@Floydwellian I have never smell current EDP or any other older formula . To be honest it was the bottle and the good price that made me buy her. I have to say that it smells nothing like ashtray ...it's more like some very vintage French soap to me .

My mum bought opium in the 80s on a plane and applied it right away! People were giving all sorts of looks, but she was living her best life! Ha! What a queen!
I'm so glad you made this video because, hey! it's important info! I love my 2018 Opium EDP and I'm beginning to love Panda (it's taking a few wearings in different weather). But now I don't think I want my first bottle of Eden if it smells too much of plastic doll heads. Love ya, Tom!

Lou Lou was my signature for years in the 80s/90s and I must say I don’t really care for the reformulation. It’s ok but it’s thinner/shallower somehow. Totally agree Re- Insolence I e owned both the original and reformulated versions and they smell almost identical to me. 😀
Loulou was also my signature back no the early 90s. I own the reformulation and it's quite different. To me this one smells like insect repeller, but I still wear it out of pure nostalgia.... Was surprised to hear Tom thinks it doesn't suck
How about Lancome Magie Noire? Anyone know how the new rectangular edt bottle compares or just if it's still good? Would appreciate any input on this. Great vid btw! :)
I can't wear the new Addict but I love the original. The new one is so mothball indolic and sharp on my skin and the original was divine, velvety and smooth. It doesn't fade, it does last for hours but it's also not good on me for hours as well. So the only one I disagree with :)
I'm hemming and hawing between Alien EDP, Alien EDT, and Pure Poison. I haven't tried any of the reformulations of those and I don't like wearing perfumes with very intense projection.

I actually haven't tried it. I kept hold of my older version, I really hope it hasn't been changed too much. With Mugler though? Their reformulations can be devastating...:(
I was anticipating Angel in the list but like you I have a ton of old stock enough that I may not even have to get the latest version. I wasn’t impressed with the EDT.
Re Opium,,, I have the original in very good condition both edt and extract. Whilst the reformulation is good, it think the initial spray is a bit plastic, after 10 minutes it settles down, however, not a patch on the original... lacks the complexity and finesse. Eva .. Worcester

Yes! They are much smaller niche houses though. The main one that jumps to mind is “Rogue Perfumery” on Etsy. He still uses all kinds of things like oak moss and stuff. 👍
I love your videos but I cannot agree with you on the laws regarding ingredients being horrible. Particularly the slaughtering of animals for the sake of any type of cosmetic is appalling and I am very pleased that companies are taking this into account more and more and the use of slaughterhouse by products is happening less and less
