It's funny though, because the tie isn't the problem. The shoulders in his suit are. Your tie does not need to match your lapel width. You shouldn't wear a skinny tie with a wide lapel, but that doesn't mean you need to wear a grandpa width tie with a suit with larger lapels either. However, the Indochino suit he's gushing over, doesn't fit him very well. The shoulders in that shot - and throughout the vid - are creasing, which means it doesn't fit. Just an observation...
Nahh, stay as the power behind the throne, accountants and lawyers always end in the winning side... but nobody hates accountants, Except the ones that liked Rocky 5 (that accountant motherf... stole from rocky 🤣🤣🤣).
1) Dont wear white socks 2) dont wear a short sleeve shirt with it 3) dont shop at cheap stores that produce for the masses (the S/M/L format may not fit your body type properly, making you look less sharp) (also ad) 4)button it correctly (if two button suit, only button top button so it drapes nicely, never button both. Let bottom open up) 5) tie should always be proportional (as thick as lapel and collar) 6) right fabric and color essential (basics like navy and gray always good go to’s) 7) not wearing a watch (a watch is a nice compliment to the suit) 8) dont go over the top with accessories (doing so makes you look childish and less distinguished) 9) dont think a suit or classier clothes are exclusive for formal events 10) cut open the vents and pockets and additional strings and such that arent a part of the suit itself, they merely serve to keep the suit intact during transport. @6:33 for examples (was almost guilty of this myself until my mom saved me as i was walking out the door once) Ur welcome.
What I've learned: 1: Wear socks that match your trousers. 2: Wear long sleeve shirts. 3: Buying suits off the rack (H&M, Zara). 4: Button only the top button for the nice, attractive silhouette. 5: Tie should always be proportional. 6: Choose the right fabric and color. 7: Always wear a watch. 8: Don't wear overblown accessories. 9: Don't just wear that suit formally.
Good tips, but to be honest: None of the suits Jose wears in this video do fit him. They are way too small and tight. The fit look ridiculious, especially the shoulders
I've bought suits that were tailored for me, and I have bought suits off the rack. The truth is if you look comfortable in a suit, and know how to wear it you will impress regardless. Off the rack is fine. I'm 45 and wear a suit 3 days a week.
Awesome comment. I remember some years ago I bought a suit from target, it was only $100 bucks. First I made sure it fit, once I knew that it was ok I had it altered to fit better. In total, alterations were $63. Your right, it’s all about how to wear the suit.
Hey man I am Saujash Maulik..A big fan of your work..I started my channel on fitness, fashion and motivation just because I got inspired by you..Now I am at 1k subs and making content on celebs like Sourav Ganguly..Robert Downey Jr is also in the list ..thank you for inspiring.
Bonus tip: Have a great fragrance ! Expensive ones such as: Dior Sauvage, Versace Eros, One Million, Creed Aventus And Cheap ones: Zara Vibrant Leather, Zara 9.0, 😎
Arguably, your fragrance, shoes, and hair can make or break your outfit. Also, I would and do wear Aventus(decant) but I've found another house, which I've been very impressed with. It's called Swiss Arabian, and most of its frags are under $100, have great projection, sillage, and overall high quality. If you'd like to check them out, here's their link shop.sa-usa.com
Jedna Budala versace eros and one million are not expensive fragrances, they are cheap to mid range and if you want a great fragrance you’re better off going with a niche fragrance, like something from amouage, frapin, acqua di parma, creed, etat libre d’orange or parfums de marly for example
If you are planning on never using the pockets on your jacket, do NOT cut the strings off, over time this pocket will start to slouch and it will look sloppy.
Agree with this except the bit about cutting the pockets. You never use suit pockets as it ruins the line/drape... leave them close to stop them sagging with time. Flaps cover them anyway, so nobody knows
Luckily my grandfather took me out to get my first suit and got It tailored. He also taught me the dos and donts. The vid just helps me tell any other dummy not to do these mistakes.
That's because Hugo Boss is not a fast fashion store like H&M, Zara, or JC Penny (like he mentioned) which caters to the masses and tries compensating for all body types. Specialty stores like Hugo Boss and even slightly cheaper brands like Express are tailored towards slim body shapes, which is why their suits look so good.
I’m kinda mad Jose affiliated the short sleeve button up with the accountant when we have always worn full suits…the occasional suspenders and bow ties
For anyone in high school or college. By a suit off the rack (Black or Dark Blue) at a discount store. Spend $150. Take that suit and dress shirt to a tailor. Get it tailored to fit you. Once you have a suit that fits you, you will love wearing it! Then buy a nicer brand. I have an Indochino suit, it’s great. I paid around $350. A great fitting suit is like wearing lingerie for women. If you understand that you know something most men don’t.
I think you're right on most of everything you said except about wearing a pocket square. I get more compliments from that single piece of fabric more than anything else from strangers. A mistake to me is wearing a suit with a t-shirt.
Wearing a pocket square that doesn't match the tie is old-school classic styling. Also wearing a carnation or rosebud on the jacket lapel is old school. Nowadays flowers are artificial but the look can still be there when done right. The comment about these accessories being childish just shows that he is new to the game of men's suit style. Wearing a suit with a tie shirt is not only deplorable and lazy it also contradicts the very reason for wearing a suit. Finally wearing a suit with sneakers is some neo-style Bull S___t. Men's suit-wearing is like an art form with traditions. And like all traditions, there are boundaries not met to be crossed. Style can be unlimited without crossing suit wearing traditional boundaries. Cross those boundaries and one will look clownish, without style, unassumingly cheap, and other negative appearances. Above all, the surrounding environment also affects the style of suit-wearing. An inexpensive suit can be worn well in certain environments but will become a red-herring in classy events. On the other hand, an expensive suit can be over the top or too top shelf for some occasions. Rare as that may be. Balance is always the key.
I have my Own Suits at home and I'm only a 17 year old black male and I'm also in High School! The ladies are in love with my Suits and me"👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾🐐🌟🌟🌟
I wear a nibosi watch and I like it because it looks expensive but its only like $100, I also love watching your videos and you help me out a lot for want to wear and when I should wear it and I also love how informative you are at helping choose the right look.
One thing I dint completely agree with is the tie. I normally wear ties that match the lapels of my jacket, however, depending on the cut of the suit, build, and the tie itself I think it can be acceptable to wear a tie that is slightly smaller than the weight of the tie but no more than a quarter of an inch.
Most people getting their first suit for a job interview. Like anyone got money for a tailored suit at that point. Just try different brands and the rest your tailor will do for 30 bucks. Tailored suit is for the second or third suit.
I'm not sure if this falls into the categories you mentioned....maybe the s/m/l section, but you have to know what size jacket you actually are. My husband wore a size 42R for the longest time until he went to the store and got help from a sales person who looked him up and down and said "you're a 42 short" and my husband thought the man was crazy. Turns out he was right. The 42 short fit him so well, like it was tailored to him.
The only person I know who wears a short sleeve button down......works at sales (Dunder Mifflin). Drop a like if u know who I'm talkin' about! Determined Worker Intense Good worker Hard worker Terrific
Wearing a suit with a hoodie and white sneakers 🙈🙈. I guess the only thing missing was a baseball hat !! All this US influencers really need to come for training in Europe to get a sense of style !
Need help hope you see this comment. I have bought a light grey check two piece for a wedding this weekend. I ideally want to wear a waistcoat however couldn't find one in the exact pattern. do you think it would look stupid to wear a plain grey waistcoat with it or any neutral colour you could recommend?
Hi. All the mistakes definitely true except the last one on the strings. Obviously the label, must be removed but when it comes to the strings on the pockets especially for the outside ones, those pockets are really meant for fashion and I really can’t think when I’ve ever been obliged to use them, unless if I’m a lecturer so I can put in my chalk. I feel opening them will make you start getting ideas to put stuff in them and that will spoil your suit or mess up the look as stuff will be bulging. As for the inner pocket I do recommend opening it up as you can place small items like your ID, Passport, hard cash or a credit card… Hope that helps
1:41 I hope you're talking about low tier stores like Zara or H&M. Because off the rack in SuitSupply are actually great. Even I've seen you doing that with the low/mid/top tier video. :D
Again great video but a little too late for me. Got my suit of the rack for a wedding im attending to. Next time I need a suit ill go check out the site you mentioned and get me some custom suit.
i disagree with the last one. i dont cut open suit pockets. keeping them sewn together makes the suit look crip and fresher. if you cut them open and put stuff in them its gonna stretch out the pocket and its gonna look weird. in my opinion
If its a pocket that I am not going to use, I tend to leave it sewn shut. I don't use it, it doesn't hurt the suit and no one can tell if it is sewn shut or not. Why is it a mistake?
#2 biggest suit mistake (Right after wearing it with a hoodie) - Thinking its all about showing off how much money you "have" in your bank account. Wearing a suit its all about charisma and being classy. I strongly suggest to visit Italy (Milano, Rome) and just watch everyone in the streets being classy and all.
Hes wrong about how there's only Small Medium and Large suits at places like JCPenny, you can find suits that will fit you almost perfectly (might need to get it tailored) but he's bashing on stores like that for his sponser
Can someone explain to me the mistake about the tie? I don’t understand what was wrong in the example He should with the gray tie that had the red X, like how do i know if my tie thickness is good? I didn’t even know ties had varying thickness.
I'm a tall young guy at 6'4 1/2 but at some point need a high quality suit because I outgrown my last suit and couple other regular fitting dress shirts. But thankfully I do have a little bit of semi formal wear I can rely on when I am at a more formal setting. But when it comes to a super formal event like wearing a tuxedo that is probably going to be difficult because just like the suit I need a high quality tuxedo.
I’m a tailor and I can promise u guys that this Indochino suits are not gonna be good. There are many many many companies which give u custom made clothes online or even in a store. If u guys want a really perfect fitting suit. Then u have to go for a bespoke Programm. Especially when u are a bit older or u are a little out of shape. I mean this companies have a cut similar to Zara and just change it a little bit to ur size. That makes sense if u are 2m tall. But that’s it. The fit of a perfect suit comes from steaming not just from sewing. Really really great brands are tagliaore, cerutti, borelli. This brands bring a great value for the price. But we go here above 600€ close to 1K. If u are 185 cm tall and have a normal body shape, a good tailor can make those Suits good looking. But it will never reach a bespoke suit. Also no one has to wear a watch and if u do go with a Dresswatch. No chrono, no submariner or Daytona, no Flieger. A Daniel wellington fits a suit better than a submariner. I had a customer which was wearing a pocket watch. A massive gold IWC. That’s also ok. What I have to agree with is that stupid fashion of colorfull accessories. Leave flowers and red socks home pls.
I don't know honestly. All I have to say is that I love to button all the buttons on everything I get. And the rule about leaving bottom button undone on suits is just very dumb and crazy and stupid. It should be definitely abolished.
