This is why I like having a truck camper instead. I'm not doing any hardcore overland expeditions, I just want to be able to get far enough away to escape drama and the people who generate it.
I agree! I have an overhead slide in utility shell built out of fiberglass. I just got out of trucking after 12 years and got my pickup up and running after sitting at the trucking yard for four and a half years. It's a 2008 Tacoma 4x4 Access cab with a 6-ft bed. I've been tempted by trailers but I honestly don't have a place to safely store one, nor do I want to go to the expense of buying one when my rig now is fully paid off. I'm trying to get this rig set up where I can live in it while I'm in the United States. I have a microwave and an ARB refrigerator behind the driver and passenger seats. I built a plywood deck at bed rail level which gives me a sizeable basement below the sleeping area. I have an attic above the truck cab where all my clothes and shoes are stored. I have a six gallon water jug and a 2000 watt generator in the basement. This arrangement frees up the sleeping area but does require a bit of a climb to get in. I have heavy duty bumpers with a winch. Because I'm in Texas and it's smoking hot, I'm trying to figure out air conditioning. So far it looks like I need to buy a portable unit and place it in the rear left corner of the sleeping area with the exhaust hose coming out of the port hole of the left barn door. A window unit would be too impractical for my setup. Here's a link from my old website of my build a few years ago. Back when we lived in a somewhat normal world.. www.angelfire.com/tx/nale/durashell.html
Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ru-vid.comUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
If you have been a bachelor for any length of time, an RV isn't an big adjustment. I'm used to doing my laundry once a week at a laundry mat, and my 5th wheel is as nice as my condo was. ( I miss the fireplace and garage) and Im amazed at how quiet it is considering how close we are packed in. Covid-19 changed a few things, lots of kids with nothing to do (pool is closed) and the idea that I can be gone in a hours keeps me from feeling too stuck. My take is living in an RV is pretty much like living anywhere, apart from a few minor adjustments. None of them qualify as the 'dark side"
a 5 gallon bucket with a 1" hole in the lid and a $5 toilet plunger from walmart makes a decent washing machine! use a separate bucket with clean water to rinse and just hang dry.
Buy yourself a mop bucket with the ringer deal on the side - makes the wash/rinse water extraction MUCH EASIER. Then thing dry much faster when hung up.

40 years ago when we had our first child and cloth diapers were the norm, we'd clean those dirty diapers by first putting them in a sealable 5 gallon bucket with bleach added to the water, then put it in the bed of the pickup while we drove. It worked really, really well!
I'm confined to an electric wheelchair sooo...RVing is out for me. Instead, I bought 36 acres in a pristine national forest and now live full-time in my "campsite" surrounded by huge trees and a 2+ acre spring-fed lake. Paradise!
richardscathouse...the problem isn't really getting into an RV, it's turning around, maneuvering and using the bathroom/shower in it on a bulky electric wheelchair. I'd tear the RV up - you should see my doorframes/doors/cabinets/appliances in my 1,250 sq. ft. house. It's a sad sight to see. Thanks for the thought though!
They are right this varies tremendously. I boondock. My rv furnace requires 110 or a generator so I have not used it in years. I spent the last three winters in my rv using a little buddy heater with a long hose to a 20 gallon propane tank and this works fine in my 17 footer.
Thank you ,for the helpful advice . I will definitely take all of this under consideration and take notes . My husband and I are now new to the” RV living”. We have no problem staying out of that type of “drama” you are referring to. . We are just trying to enjoy our lives and be adventurous. Making new memories..But we will be smart and take all safety measures... Happy travels and we will subscribe to your channel!
Like my Green Beret father who did Four tours in Vietnam once said, “If it’s got Teets, Tracks or Tires, pretty soon you’ll have problems with it.” I was in the Navy. Did two four year tours, all overseas. And when I came back, I wanted to see the country. So I became a truck driver. I once stopped at a truck stop in MS. It was called the 35/55 truck stop. Looked nice too! Stopped, took a shower, went to sleep, woke up at 6am to start my day. Went to put my shoes on and WOWSERS!! The bottom of my feet were on fire!!! I brought my foot up to look at the bottoms of my feet and there was (disgusting mental picture coming) blood and some sort of piss underneath the surface of the souls of both feet!! Like my skin was rotting off!! It was awful!! I got on my CB radio and called out for help. The radio lit up with all sorts of laughter and hollering. But through it all I heard one driver tell me to take it to Baskin Robins, which is channel 31. When we both got there he told me he saw something like that back in Vietnam. He called it Jungle Rot. He said the only thing that will kill it is to point the bottom of my feet at the sun and leave’em there. He said I’d get a bit of sunburn, but it’d save my feet. SAVE MY FEET?!! Ya, it’ll get so bad, infect the rest of your feet and eventually it’ll cause you to have you feet amputated. I asked him how I caught it. He said, “Did you take a shower at that place and not bleach the shower floor first?” Yep! That’s how I caught it! He left, I got on my phone and called my dummy (dispatcher for my driving company) and then just stuck my feet out of the driver’s window for about six or seven hours. I must have fallen asleep and it was about 5pm. I pulled in both feet and the skin was rock hard. The next day it was all peeling off and tender to the touch. I couldn’t drive for two more days. So a word to the wise: Do NOT take a shower at ANY place on the road without bleaching the shower “FIRST!!” To this day, I still have loss of feeling in both feet. **To the Vietnam Vet who saved my feet...Thank You sir.
Your video turned out to be better than I thought it would be, NICE JOB! Thanks! I've been on the road now for almost 13 yrs doing all Volunteer Disaster relief and Ministry! Stay Safe!
For sure. That's excellent. Unfortunately a few people do not have that option either because they are too poor to afford any kind of motor vehicle much less a motor home, or they don't drive. These poor including myself are stuck where they are and are sitting ducks when things get so bad with inflation that they can no longer afford their one bedroom apartment. Not looking forward to that future at all.
Raised on farms and ranches, and grandparents that introduced me to boondocking at a very young age. I've always said that if you can't pee off your porch without the neighbors saying something, your neighbors are too close.

We've been fulltime for a while. With Richard having issues from military. Better being mobile, had very few issues with assholes, but we find them sometimes. Love your videos!! You guys brought to light some interesting things. 👍👍
I imagine that's one advantage to being mobile: if it's unbearable, you pick up and head out. You see those epic neighbor battles on the news sometimes where they're stuck with each other.
Matter of fact it’s how I live. In August 2020 I started living in my 2014 Toyota RAV4 making my income with Rideshare and doing deliveries. The difference is I work to build my own Ride Local platform and take new riders or deliveries with a QR code. Since I have done this I travel back and forth twice a year from Yuma,AZ to Grand Rapids, MI. I use DoorDash when I travel across states. Great video and keep it up. Thanks for sharing.
I like you guys . There is one provoking thing you forgot to mention : It is that annoying knock on your door late at night telling you something that could have waited til morning or at least in the early part of the evening before it turned dark . This is really bad for females who are traveling alone !!!

I do fully appreciate your candid commentary on Quartesite and Rving in general. I need to know the good with the bad. I will be going on the road once I am no longer required by my last family member. There would be no reason at all to stay. However, I don't want to fall into a trap I can't get out of so I thank you for teaching me the downfalls. Happy travels!
I've dreamed of having an RV or buying a bus, tossing the chairs and do a build. That was 30 years ago and still haven't done it. BUT, I just viewed one of the best RV videos on the internet. I smiled and laughed at some of it and felt badly about my fellow humans in another part. Thank you soooo much for doing this. I loved the video and learned a LOT viewing it.
...and my personal favorite: Insect swarms. During the Canadian summers, mosquitoes travel in clouds. No joke, and you can actually here them coming! 😨
Oh almost forgot about MAYFLIES!! Just in time for Catfish days in Trempaleau WI . slimey, in your hair, mouth everywhere. Try walking to your car after the festivities, slime on the roads.
Caught in a blizzard in Iowa. Pulled into a truck stop. The owner of the place was out in the weather, helping RVs and truckers to parking areas in safety. We stayed two nights until the road was cleared, for free. Back on the road, we counted over 200 truck wrecks and 500 auto wrecks when we departed. During a sudden wind storm in Virginia Beach, winds in excess of 90 mph, wrecked trucks, RVs and cars, throwing trees and other debris everywhere, as well as killing traffic control lights. we pulled off the highway and into a Walmart parking lot. The store GM was outside directing traffic into safe parking areas. He brought well over 200 high profile vehicles to safety. When you see the good, then the bad is not so bad after all.
If people are realistic , even with all the things you mentioned, it still seems like a great way to live! I remember when we lived in a 3 bedroom house in a beautiful neighborhood, still there was some shmuck in the neighborhood that was always calling the city for things like trash cans not quite in the right place or cars parked a day too long before being used etc , a lot of neighbors were really fed up with it and were looking for who it was. Also when I looked out my kitchen window, I could see the guy next door in his kitchen window. And as nice as he was. (Ane he was super nice!) I really wished I could see scenery instead and sunlight without seeing other people next door. There were other things also...And now that we have moved into an RV, I see beautiful green mountains and fields etc. I never want to go back. Simplifying our lives has really been a stress reliever! And helped with our bills. YaY!
We have to all work together to get rid of the real noisy, obnoxious bullies, thugs, slobs and pigs and their filthy noisy, farting dogs and cats that wreck everything.
Feel same way in apartments! The thing I'm finding more frequently and getting tired of is either a couple fighting (I mean REAL fighting, hearing banging on walls ect.) and smell of pot and people coming over at all hours to buy some. I've had wanderlust all my life and ready to explore.
You are spot on about the perfect camper . When we first started camping we jumped in, use to walk the campgrounds making a list of things we wanted on the next camper. 20 years later still same camper no list. You learn to make do with what you have. great video.

I don’t own an RV & don’t plan to buy one but I’m always trying to learn about travel life. And I learned some stuff here. My plan is tent camping 🏕 with a 4RUNNER. I have no interest in going to those commercial campgrounds. I’m trying to get away from people with my crabby Springer Spaniel. I’m a veteran bicycle camper & I’m used to the difficulties with laundry 🧺 & showering. 🚿 You couldn’t have said it any better-it’s not a perfect world 🌎. And if a thing can go wrong it will. If you can minimize catastrophes you’re doing really well. Don’t worry about what people say about you. Who cares? ‘All things are impermanent. Strive on with awareness.’ The Buddha 🕉☯️
Thanks. Glad you learned a few things. We had a crabby Springer as well, we loved him with all our hearts and knew his triggers, but in hindsight I feel like we lost 10 years of our life catering to his Springer rage. We love dogs and it’s really hard to say this. On our last trip to Baja we adopted a puppy and she is amazing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JY1jRFhRv6I.html

I often wondered about that. We would lake about every weekend in the summer down at the Arkansas Mountains in Oklahoma.. We had tents and picnic table awning, cooked on a camping stove went fishing tanned up and til I went back to school. Well on occasion a huge RV pulled in late ran that genirator sound, I couldn't wait to hear the crickets and bullfrogs again (my sleeping music )..So now I have a new perspective on those loud RV 's.. For whatever reason they were banned from the original reservation.. They didn't always come around but the lake authority always let them in. Thanks for a new look.
i am single and have been living in my RV for 3 years now. and i am truly beginning to hate it. navy showers truly suck. staying at camp sites is way overpriced and the homeless discrimination is truly showing me the world of Bigotry.
It’s not simply a matter of people being bigoted. Most people living this nomadic life are very decent but it comes with some very unsavory types as well. Theft is or can be a big problem with transient living. Also, while the vast majority use proper sanitation, the occasional bonehead that poops on the ground (or worse, empties their holding tank illegally onto the ground) and leaves it uncovered makes for unseemly sights and smells. I did the “RV on the water” with a 37 foot sailboat for 2 years and sailed 2-3 days a week returning to an anchored spot in a protected bay. Out of 8 sailboats in that bay, mine was the only functioning sailboat-the rest of the sea nomads there never moved their boats which created an eyesore at times and lots of drugs and alcohol intoxicated live-aboards were noisy at all hours of the night, sometimes dumping their feces overboard brought marine patrol (cops) constantly harassing everyone because of the bad behaviors of a few. It was a wonderful time with beautiful sunsets and dolphins and the like, no worrying about insects or other critters, and very inexpensive to live. But the constant threat of bad weather, anchors coming unmoored at the most inopportune times, seagulls and pelicans and cormorants and herons emptying their bowels 30 feet above you as they perched on your mast, constant worry of thieves, keeping the bank of marine batteries charged, running generators to operate an AC unit necessitated the running of generators which were expensive to keep maintained in the salt air environment, and those frustrating navy showers became too much for me and I up and sold the boat 2 years ago. I could’ve endured all of that for much longer if not for the few vagrants that made us all look bad and brought unwanted attention and scornful looks from nearby land residents.

As a trucker and a rv-owner.. just a suggestion. If at all possible, unless you're 30ft long do not take up a spot at rest areas. Please use the rv or car side... and if you do use a truck spot. Mind leaving your marker lights on. Or reflective tape... be safe out there

We were stuck in the middle of multiple tornadoes. We couldn’t turn around bc tornadoes were hitting the ground. We couldn’t keep going bc tornadoes were right in front of us. 5 twisters hit the other side of the highway just a few feet beside us. Yes, all the same time. I have never been so scared in my life. All I could do is pray. 😭😟 My parents loved their camp ground until later that evening when they got overran by ants. Ants in all their beds, ants all over the walls and floors. They said they fought ants all night and couldn’t drink coffee bc ants got all inside the coffee pot. Usually we have a great time though. We love camping!!!!!

Things break in a house too. Plus, property taxes, utilities, garbage, water, everything else with a house. Also, yard care, watering, weed care fertilizing, and the equipment. Lets not for get HOA fees and the micro managing of your life they force upon you. Add all this stuff up.
From '80 to '90, I worked as a caravan mechanic for Point South tours. Mexico in the winter and Canada / Alaska in the summer. About 6-7 months a year. Did motorcycle caravans too. The best RV on the road is the worst RV in the camp. You want a Vanagon on the road and a Wanderlodge in the park. One of the biggest problems / benefits of RVing depends on your attitudes and outlook. Then, there is the heat, humidity and bugs in the tropics & Florida. Also, you must have realistic expectations. Keep in mind that; the attractions with the most hotels do the most advertising. Some of the best places don't have any hotels and, you don't hear about them. You've all heard of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon but, have you heard of the Toroweap unit of the Grand Canyon? You must start by choosing the kind of places that you want to see. If you want to see lots of pristine wilderness, better to buy a smaller camper with ground clearance. I drive a 1970 Dodge 1 ton Power Wagon. It has a 9 ft. utility bed with a steel-framed camper welded on top. It worked well for taking care of problems on the caravans. I took it on the Copper canyon train 5 times. It is 6 wd so, worked well in the Alaska mud,,, and occasional Mexican mud. Between caravans, I did camping trips in Europe, Asia, OZ, north Africa. Also, drove to Peru on my own.
So true! Especially the annoying reservation systems, including high fees to make a reservation at all, no ability to reserve open spots on the day of arrival....and campers who hog spots for a week just to secure the weekends.

#11 - Outside TVs on RVs! People leave those stupid things blaring and they're not even outside using them. I think they should be banned unless you're at some sort of sporting event and tailgating.
Sharon -- My new Thor had one and the first thing I did was was to pull it out and gained some extra storage too. I can't see the point of a big TV outside while camping to get away.
We try to be very respectful with our outside tv, it's never loud and we never ever watch anything R rated because of the children in campgrounds. I find loud obnoxious talking all hours of the night and loud music to be a bigger problem than our tv.
Greg Kurts I would much rather have a bar!!! My husband likes the t.v. to watch sports on tho. Our inside tv is super tiny and at an awkward angle to really enjoy watching. I tried to watch the Hurricanes play hockey on it, it was impossible!
Mel Rey most RVs these days have little to do with camping or anything outdoorsy. We chose a hybrid because we wanted to feel like we were still camping. The tv has been a life saver for entertaining my niece when it was too rainy for playing.
The only thing that really bothered me and sounded completely unreasonable was the discrimination factors. I had no idea that certain RV parks were limited to seniors, nor did I know that they would deny you based on the age of your rig.

Folks, having been there and done that, I can relate to all you spoke about! lol It has been an adventure for sure! Our biggest complaint is the young couple who pull up next to you in their rig and then roll out the outdoor tv and play till the wee hours! Of course, we do get our laughs of the day watching the newbie's backing in for the first or second time! Hold my beer and watch this!

I travelled the American West in a 1970's vintage Chevy Suburban many years ago after college. Was fantastic!! Had it fixed up with blackout curtains and a place to sleep in the back. STILL PLENTY of room for the mountain bike, archery equipment and camping gear.

Just stumbled across your channel today. Excellent video. Being handy with tools and able to fix minor issues while traveling is a huge plus. A lot of people go out and buy a new RV and expect it to be to problem free. WRONG. Stuff breaks, systems stop working, etc. You cannot rely on RV dealers to get you rig in for service when traveling... they always seem to be booked out for service weeks in advance. I totally agree on the "there's no such thing as a perfect RV". I Perfect example of this is the truck camper I own, which I've made a lot of videos about in my channel. It's not fun staying in it when the weather turns bad, because there's no place to comfortably sit for long periods of time.

Seems to me the trend right now is a lot of trailer trash out on the road and they're pissing all of the resorts RV parks off hence all these crazy rules.

@@jamesgibson7207 In December my family and I were in a state park and some tool was running a LOUD subwoofer system thumping in his trailer till about 2am. No cell service in the area and no park rangers to be found till the morning. I avoid parks of all kinds when RV'ing. Prefer boon docking in middle of no where.
A note about laundry needs: Might you possible consider something like a "Wonder Wash" and a laundry spin dryer (Google "laundry-alternative.com" for some examples). These items WORK, and your laundry will be dry within an hour if you're willing to hang a clothesline somewhere, inside or out of your RV. The spin dryer spins the clothes to mere dampness. For the record, I am not a representative of, and am not pushing an ad for, the Laundry Alternative; I just know from experience that these items do work pretty well, especially if you would rather avoid laundromats during a pandemic.
Regarding Quartzsite, I can only imagine... It doesn't surprise me in the least to hear you describe the cliques that form there. It's a small town that, for two months out of the year, is filled with 100k people converging upon the place. I've seen some TERRIBLE human behavior from people in Full Time RV groups on Facebook so it wouldn't surprise me in the least to hear that this gathering is chock full of d'bags and self-appointed primadonas as well. The more that technology and the internet move us forward, making it possible for people to connect with others online, the more and more desensitized many become to the feelings and needs of others. There are two RU-vid channels that I use to be a subscriber of that I've since distanced myself from after seeing their truer natures expressed on video at Quartzsite. Safe travels you two... Good video.

Europe in the summer and fall??? Wonderful! I wasn’t old enough in the 60’s to hitchhike all over Europe but RVing there sounds even better! I know you’ll share all kinds of information and videos of places we’d like to visit. Thanks for this great video. I know people would rather have the sunshine than the gloom but it’s good to know the truth of what goes on. I figured there were clicks at the big hangouts. I’ve quit watching some full timers that have childish remarks on their channel. I’m a loner by nature so maybe its best that way.
Wow, this is fantastic info!! Thanks very much, it’s always so helpful to hear from folks who have gone before you. Did you by any chance buy your vehicle in Europe or the UK? We’ve got all of our European friends checking on rules for buying vehicles in Germany and Austria as we are looking at vehicles there, also looking at some in the Netherlands and the UK and we have questions about logistics. There are just so many more choices in terms of EV’s in Europe and for more reasonable prices than the $400k rigs available in the states, so we prefer to buy over there, but know that will come with challenges.

I hitchhiked round Europe in the 70s and then owned campervans for nearly 30 years. The main difference now is that some towns don't welcome you as there are so many on the road now, on the other hand there are more places run by local authorities that are very cheap for a spot and basic facilities. There is a book of those but I forget its name. I only ever stayed in relatives driveways when in UK but I think it's much more expensive here than most of Europe.
Ive been living in my RV in Colorado for about 4 months. Im at an RV park I think it's great. I think I got lucky though, definitely figure out where your going to park that piggy
Well, RU-vid decided to unsubscribe from yours & a bunch of other channels I watch. If that wasn't bad enough they re-subscribed me to channels I dropped & haven't viewed in months! Good video by the way! I don't understand why people think that RVing is going to be nothing but honey & roses. Life doesn't work that way, there is always going to be some bad with all the good with any trip. The longer your on the road the more things will happen to upset the apple cart. You've just got to learn not to let those times get you down & work through them!
that has been happening to me too. I'm getting notifications from channels I never watch or have anything to do with, and being unsubscribed to channels I do watch. I'm about done with RU-vid.

There are people that just are not meant to live the RV life, its the best life if you know how to do it, most people that jump into this are not mentally ready and still dependent on society's comforts, if you like living in a house or apartment or town home with your king bed and 50 inch TV just forget a nomadic life its not about fitting everything you have in your suburbia home into a rolling home you wont be happy, its about true minimalism and living for the road and next place to experience, its about camp fires and sitting outside your rig listening to the wild life and fishing and dipping into a mountain stream in the morning and being away from society not just joining society with another 1000 RV's.

I liked the video and the concept. I haven't stayed in a camp ground ever while traveling. I choose to live stealth. just a personal choice. I dont really like being anchored anywhere. Quartzsite is a hit or miss year to year. Not sure I would really care about rumors or gossip. This is why I dont like camp grounds. Seasonal campers are all drama. I travel to get away from people not be with them. Just my 2 cents. Ill trade you a sub for a sub. I appreciate your support. See you out on the road.

I've driven through Quartzite so many times honestly you couldn't pay me to stay there. Ugh! There's a lovely RV Park maybe 30 minutes away just past Brenda AZ that we love. After the sun goes down you can see the beautiful star filled sky, it's not too big & has a pool plus showers, etc.. And thankfully we've never had the political or clique drama that oftentimes goes on.
Jules BJeweled i remember 25 years ago.....not all that mych going on in Quartzite. Haven't been around there in almost 15 yrs. But then again, that part of Arizona is building up, soooo.
rodney perry. Well I'd bet it hasn't grown much in those 25 years. It has a few fast food places, a few truck stops, I don't remember a Starbucks unless they've built one in the last few years? I couldn't even find a decent grocery store. I'd drive over there just to grab a fast food meal or a soda since it was maybe a 20 minute drive (one way) from where we were staying but if I needed anything more substantial I just hit the I-10 and drove on into the Phoenix area instead. Now THAT'S where it's truly growing, areas such as Buckeye, etc have begun to explode. And since I was on the 10 freeway it was still just a quick little trip.
I live near Quartzite Arizona in a small town called Blythe and Quartzite is really just the same, just maybe one store or two that’s new but that’s really it. It has an RV dealership and maybe a few new restaurants but not your average Five Guys or Applebee’s restaurant’s 😂. But yes, the town is still the same.

@@scruffy281 I see you posted this Pre-Covid; i will say this about Full-time RVing. I Love it. But, the gasoline is expensive, the maintenance, new AC just got replaced, cheapest was $1500 for unit and labor. Others wanted $3000. RV parks are now charging outrageous prices. Do a lot more boon-docking because places are filled up due to wild fires and hurricanes. The upside is you get tired of paying high property taxes of home ownership and restless being stuck in one place. If you like to live the Nomadic lifestyle then it is very liberating. But, you have to have money; not Wealthy but food, gas price, maintenance costs, insurance. After the pandemic, it's nice to be isolated somewhat.
I have 2 pet peeves when it comes to camping. We don't have an r v, we tent camp. Now I camp for the solitude and quiet. We don't have pets. Pet peeve # 1. Music. It infuriates me that people find it necessary to blast their music. If you wish to have music, fine, have it but use headphones or ear buds. I do not wish to hear your music. #2. Pets. You love your pet. Ì do not. No matter how much you adore little fido to please keep in mind that not all of us share your opinion. Oops, I guess I have a third one. Coming uninvited into my campsite. Walk by, say hi. That's fine, but I don't need you making yourself at home and telling me your life story. OK, so I got that off my chest. Thanks for reading.

For us, "less is more" is the way to go. Our "RV" is a camper, small and light. Lot of things we don't have, but a lot of things TO have can really turn it into a big job--which we don't want. We take a hotel every three or four days, for showers, and all that, just one example. And the camper is "modular" meaning it comes off when we need a truck.

OK...for the washer and dryer stuff...you can buy a portable washer at Walmart or Amazon, etc...they do an amazing job and they hold an unbelievable amount for a small washer...it may take a tad longer, but you can just wash smaller loads then you did in your "stick & bricks"...by the time they come out of the second part (Spin side), they will be almost dry and you can use hangers or whatever to dry them the rest of the way. If you are washing a lot of bedding now, you will likely have to visit a laundromat...otherwise, these things are amazing. After seeing a woman doing 6 adult T-shirts in one the other day, I am going to try and wash my sheet in one...I just use a bottom sheet on my bed. As for the Quartzsite comment...you don't have to become involved with the "drama" and besides these things happen when you are living in sticks & bricks" too, so what's the difference?
You cannot go by what other people's experiences have been. You can listen to what they have to say to learn, but don't be discouraged...Give it a trail run. Come this spring 2020, my house goes on the market and I am RV bound. Nothing hugh, 30 foot will do it for me. Nothing to keep me here...just me and my pets to travel .

If you put fabric softner sheets ramdomly in cupboards it usually keeps the rodents out of the area. We keep them in ours and haven't seen evidence of mice in the RV.
Lemongrass also works. Then just like when living in "bricks and sticks", remember than rodents are like water and air. They are love the path of least resistance. When mouse-proofing we always mixed steel wool especially the ones for stove cleaning with our insulation gap-filler (Great-stuff at Lowes, etc.) You might not be able to find very point of entrance. We were shocked about big mice were able to sneak through what we thought were pin-hole sized gaps. So you might still get a few surprise guests. We placed the extra large mouse sticky pads near warm areas (like water heater or furnace, etc.) We would mix D-con pellets with little natural peanut butter on the middle of the large sticky pad. Your 'sniffer' will tell you if there is one taking a "4ever nap" on the pad.

I'm 55 y.o. and have been thinking about getting into RV'ing. I have watched too many youtube videos on RV'ing to count, but something recently struck me about how folks who are already into RV'ing talk about purchasing RV's ......it's like they're almost apologizing for the industry because there are flaws in either the production of the RV, there's flaws in the selling of the RV (lack of PDI), there's flaws with the upkeep of the RV, there's flaws with the warranty and non-warranty work that will arise, etc., etc. Hey, let me tell you all something : QUIT IT ALREADY!! Look, there's no perfect RV......we get it. It's like expecting to buy the perfect car or house. Those don't exist either! The perfect spouse - uh, ain't happening. The perfect schools? Can't find it. The perfect neighborhood? Not until Jesus returns. So, continue to give it to us straight (who aren't into RV'ing yet), both the good and the bad, but please quit ''apologizing" for the quirks of owning an RV. (PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ON TO OTHER RV SUPPORTERS). God bless.

So basically this list boils down to: get good quality stuff and know how to get it functioning again when they break, get used to roughing it at times (and learn to love it), know where and when to splash on minor luxuries and avoid large groups (or gatherings) of people (of any kind). Especially the last one: I have been in all sorts of interest groups (from car brand specific clubs to historic re-enactment groups) and without any exception they generally suck to the core after a few months when you start noticing the politics, the bullshit, the lies, the sub clubs, the rivalry, the gossip, the bitching and moaning behind peoples backs and the (financial) interests. Then there are the swollen ego's and the acquiring of both money and power. More often then not these three things tend to reside with those who can't handle either of them with almost always disastrous results. I have been looking for a place/group to "belong" to for the better part of 2 decades, finally accepting that it is impossible to find such a place or group. The good news is you can get a strong feeling of belonging but it will not be in a group or a place but with you and a significant other, maybe some kids and some pets. Really, take it from me, of all the tips in this video list, the last one (#10) is the most important in my opinion, you simply can't fix people, not even the rare good ones and generally stay away from big pretentious events. They started out great, go bigger and bigger every year and mostly after the 5th (or so) time they are organised they start to get soar, over organised, over regulated, boring, it's experience becomes subject to or get filled with sentiments of jealousy and should be avoided like the bubonic plague. Better find the smaller, enthusiasticly and passionately organised events which can be enjoyed as they are meant to be.
I TOTALLY hear you about groups of people. I too have looked for an interest group to "belong" to, be a part of, a place to learn good info about the subject at hand, etc. Have checked out numerous HAM radio clubs, computer clubs, etc. Inevitably the politics, cliques, power plays and the drama turned me off early on and I left disgusted soon thereafter. As you said, you cannot fix people - where there are people assembled in any size group >3, you WILL have drama. I RVed full time for several years, and I can tell you it's NOT like they used to portray it in "Trailer Life" magazine - where you'd meet all sorts of wonderful people while RVing and make all sorts of life-long friends. Basically I found it to be apartment living on wheels, only in a tiny box with all the same bad behavior one encounters in many apartment complexes. MOST of my 'fellow RVers' were ill behaved trash with lots of money, I'm sorry to say.

Nice blog. I have used an ultrasonic pest repeller for 13 years now, and have never had any rodents in my homes, and now my home on wheels. Have also never owned a washer and dryer my whole adult life, so laundromats are a regular part of my life and no big deal to me. It is amusing to read the numerous negative comments here against RV life. Everyone is, of course, entitled to their own opinion. But for us full time RVers, it seems just as equally nutty to spend a significant portion of your money and life slaving away, working to pay off a mortgage on a house, that after your mortgage is paid off, will be at least 30 years old, likely in a location you chose mainly because it was in close proximity to your job, and in the end of it all when you are gone or no longer able to live at home, it will be a house that your kids and/or family likely will not want to keep, sell your things at an estate sale, and flip the house. Pfft... not for me. I love my home on wheels. If I don't like my neighborhood, I can pick up my house and move it. Whole setup cost me under $70K and will be paid off in less than 10 years. Just my opinion. Happy trails, all.

After the meetup in Phoenix, we went to Quartzsite. Luckily it was after the big crowd had started leaving so it wasn't crowded and since we tend to keep to ourselves anyway, it worked out okay for us. I'm not crazy anxious to go back, though. I'd much rather just hang out somewhere in the middle of BFE with nobody around for miles. I just don't get what is so great about Quartzsite... Maybe I'm a stick in the mud?!?! :D
I feel the same way. Quartzite is actually a neat little desert town to pass through and visit during a normal road trip. I actually found it years before I ever became an RVer. But I have never been there for the mass RV pilgrimage and do not intend to either. I'm not a fan of large crowds (or people in general!) and for me there is no desire to go hang out with thousands upon thousands of them.
We're just about to get started on our full time adventure and really enjoyed this video... thanks! Having been in the RV & automotive service industries for over 30 years, I particularly appreciated ya'll telling it straight ("Not perfect and stuff breaks"). So many people just don't understand RV's and get discouraged the first time they have a go at it. I was taught by a veteran of the business that RV was an acronym for "Ruined Vacation" LOLOL Thanks again for the great video! P.S. I had never even heard of Quartzsite until this video (and I've watched a lot of them) guess I have more research to do. :)
Stuff breaks at home too, however most people's view is not as good as the view on the road and you sure can't change it. I guess the scenery mitigates the RV problems somewhat. In the last 24 hours at home I have had a nail in a brand new tire, my clothes dryer quit (guess I'll see you at the laundromat) and my kitchen sink clogged up (waiting for the plumber now). I will say it has been easier to deal with than had it happened in the RV.
Kelly Pennington Nothing I haven't felt with in my twenty years in long-haul trucking! Most truck stops have washer dryer service! Just be human one machine only don't try and take over and you'll be fine midweek and after midnight are ideal times for laundry
