30 times to Brazil, never been robbed. Just once, I had a necklace showing on my neck, someone tried but failed. I even walked in Copacabana at 0200, nothing happened.
Use common sense, do not carry too much cash, I used a very old phone, no jewellery or expensive watches, when you go to the beach just bring a couple of hundred reais. If you go to Lapa to dri k be careful and do not accept any drinks from someone on the street, it may be spiked. I love Brazil and hopefully will go again next year.
Thanks for all the tips! The US has new regulations that require Covid PCR testing 72 hours before entry. It would be great to see a video guiding on where/how to find testing in Rio.
@@poseiidon725 Right now I'm still traveling back and forth my husband's Brazilian. Eventually we'll stay down there permanently. Times are difficult these days
Im also Brazilian and I think you should have mentioned the gangs. Ive seen people get killed in front of me so the only tip I would give you is to stay out of the favelas.
Your pronunciation of jewellery was spot on! :) I hope I can move to Brazil soon. Have you any suggestions for the Recife region? Mainly the best way to rent long term. Obrigado!
aaah!! you made my day! hehehe!! thanks! =) Humm... for recife... I was there last week (as a tourist) and I could realize it´s cheaper than other capitals in BR. The best area to live is Boa Viagem. If I were you, I would choose something on Airbnb because the bureaucracy to rent long terms stays in local websites its too complicated. If your long term stay is less than 1 year... airbnb is your best shot.
Ola! This is only my second video that I have watched of your videos. They have been very helpful and enjoyable. I love your English. You speak very well! I will be going to Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, next month in April. My first visit to Brazil. It will be a short trip this time but I hope in the future to visit more of the country. It is truly beautiful. Anyway, thank you for making these videos. I hope you will continue to make them. Obrigado!
I lived most of my life in Brazil. I was mugged multiple times, had my life in real danger by criminals pointing guns or knifes at me. Having phones and wallets in the front pockets will only avoid pick pockets, but it will do nothing against armed robbers who are everywhere. Crime in general is not higher in Brazil than in Europe or some parts of the US, but violent crime like armed robberies and killings are much higher in Brazil. I left the country for good due to lack of safety and rampant corruption.
There another one guys when you are walking by the sidewalk and someone try to convince you to buy something don’t buy it and never accept something for free like fruits in a market , jewelry on the streets . Don’t trust people who looks like a employee from some place with paper and pens on the streets too and sayings that gonna give you a ride to your hotel , and offering things for feee like 3 days in a hotel 5 stars is just a big scam in the end they will charge you a lot or force you to buy something And never táxi guys just Uber
I can accept it all, really, but not using my phone on the streets 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️no, no, no! I go to Brazil to take pictures and not to use my phone in a shop, restaurant or my hotel. If I cannot take pictures in the old town of Rio, Salvador, Sao Luis and Recife then why bother going there? If only small towns like Ouro Preto, Diamantina, Goias, Paraty are "smartphone-safe", then I will only have pics of Brazilian provincial towns? Sorry, but such things just make me freak out 🤦♂️ no, no, no! Vacations are meant to be relaxing, not a constant paranoia-parade
It is just prevention... of course you can take pictures, but be aware, especially if you are alone! Unfortunately in Brazil we don't have just pickpockets, but thugs that rob in the streets...
I carried my camera around in these cities. No problems. I just put it back in my bag after taking the pics, or leaving the area i was photographing. At the same time I just dressed casually (shorts, t-shirt and flip-flops) and walked at the same pace as a normal Brazilian. You won't have problems if you just fit in normally. Brazilians are taking pictures everywhere too.
@@SteveChilleri take pictures to have memories, and not for likes. Is vacation in a country where I need to be scared to take a picture even vacation? This is worse than Afghanistan, sorry.
@@frankozrin5611 just have to be aware of your surroundings. I've seen people here in the US get their phone stolen so it can happen anywhere. Don't be a clueless tourist.
To generalize a country the size of Europe, saying that it is dangerous, is the same as generalizing the US saying that there are school massacres and gangs everywhere in the United States.
There're cities where tourists need to take more precautions than they normally take in their hometown, but sometimes what TV shows is not what tourists will find. ;)
Hey so i am from morroco i am planing to continue my studies in brazil can you just please make a video talking about how is the studies in brasil thank you ❤
Suggestion for a New Video - "Traveling Documents" - By traveling I mean, my wife has me go out the house with a hidden pouch that has my passport, mother and fathers name written down (what is this with mothers in brazil, i feel bad if you were adopted) and my address. What should we take with us, what if they are stolen etc. Thanx.😎
You have to be aware! The best thing to do is come with someone else to whatch around while you take your pictures and also avoid going in downtown in Holydays and sundays!
Hola Felipe! I mean in big cities, if they have to talk on the street, take buses and metro, that's right, we avoid use too much jewelry. If we're going to have dinner in a special occasion, if we take a taxi or drive your own car... then its ok.
I've been to Rio de Janeiro five times it's very dangerous I liked the South of Brazil better Santa Catarina I'm from France but I love Brazil but when I go to Brazil I don't leave with other money
Cool! Its not a tourist place, so you will have the chance to see many local things\food\habits! And learning Portuguese is important, only few people speak English!
Just see what is going on there now at the airports and you will never come back there. look at the 2 Brazilians who are being held in Germany because they got there and their bags are full of cocaine. Some traffickers changed their tags at the baggage loading area, without being scanned and YES all got on camera. it's being a frequent issue with Brazilians being arrested including Portugal and Spain. yes, super safe to be there and get out there with a jail card. Please people pay attention, this kind of crime is there for all to see. The danger is getting back to your country and be arrested for being a 'cocaine mule" . my question is: is that a safe place to be?
@@onlyinbrazil4736 come on, this has being all over the world this past week . this girls spent 1 month and 8 days in jail because crooks there placed 40kg of cocaine in their luggage. Also 8 month ago a men was held in Portugal prison for 2 month also with cocaine in his luggage . This is very very concerning to me as my family can end up in jail very easy. How this is happening? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SivqjYh_7mY.html&lc=Ugw0dhlPvs2Mv0lgXGx4AaABAg.9oPcRHwjKec9oT3wZhQsz8
I have lived in Brazil for over 10 years, and I have a very bad experience. I've been robbed more than 3 times, my family has been kidnapped (they only stole money and didn't hurt, luckily). There was a time when my colleague didn't return money I lent, and when I ask about it they get angry. Worse is that many bandits use their money to buy drugs and cachaça. I've heard a case where an elderly man lost all his belongings, even documents because of the robbery and he's living on the street now. I became a youtuber to show the reality of Brazil to the poor immigrants who are arriving here
@@onlyinbrazil4736 He's saying horrible things about my country, lies! Brazil doesn't treat anyone badly we are a super receptive people, but we are not muggles either, we don't accept those who come to cause trouble, steal, harass... He probably did something bad, the people wasn't well liked and he got angry. There is a video where he says that all Brazilian children are rude, there may even be children who are rude, but generalizing saying that all children in a country are rude is horrible!
I've been to Brazil three times I didn't like the North I didn't like the Northeast I didn't like the Southeast I didn't like the Midwest I liked the South I liked the South of Brazil
OK. Here are my tips. Dress like a pedreiro with a bit of paint on your T-shirt. Instead of a shopping bag, carry an old tin of paint with a handle, empty of-course, and looking well used. You can put your money inside, under a dried ring of paint at the bottom of the tin. If you like going round everywhere on the bus (as I do) put your paint tin temporarily in a plastic bag (otherwise the cobrador may object). If you're wearing tennis (trainers) instead of chinelos (flip-flops), don't wear designer models - always keep it old (worn). And the moral of everything is - who do you want to impress with your swanky clothes? What benefit is it going to bring you, apart from being charged higher prices.!!!!!!!!!!!! You'll have a fabulous and unpretentious time in Brasil with real people, far from those just out to appease tourists.
