With the release of the Captain America: The First Avenger in July 2011, audiences got their first cinematic taste of the superhero in red, white and blue. Steve Rogers was introduced in the comics in 1941, first appearing in Captain America Comics #1. He became an American super soldier designed to fight the Axis of power during World War II.
