To make extra-beautiful hearts for St. Valentine's Day cards, I die cut simple heart shapes, then I place those inside embossing folders with floral or musical note designs, or whatever design seems nice, run that thru my Sizzix Switch, and the result is very elegant, unique, textured hearts! Have done the same with other basic shapes such as circles, hexagons, rectangles, etc.
❤I'm making 108 Valentine's for my mum's Aged Care facility. I'm doing the top folding pop up heart by Studio Light. I have done a green, blue and peach set by cutting the top layer pieces in white shimmer card then embossing Altenew 3D folders. Camellia is my fave but Daisy Bed and Beautiful Bergenia look great too! Always love the 'How did you do that!?!' Reaction, ha!
Terrific ideas! Thank you! I like to add double sided adhesive sheets to the back of a piece of vellum before embossing, then add it to colored cardstock. I think it was Amy’s Wares channel that taught me that one…. Really pretty! 🧑🏼🎨😀
Your organization of your EFs is awesome! I noticed you made notes of the "sandwich" for each one. I've done the same thing with a Sharpie on the top outside of the EF itself - saves time and cuts down on using the wrong sandwich. Thanks for these tips!
I like the partial embossing technique for a border, or other portion, like a diagonal. It leaves a quiet space to put the sentiment or other die cut elements, etc. Very nice summary, thank you.
I had so many ideas that I need to make multiple videos. Partial embossing is on the list that I didn’t get to in this video. Thank you for your suggestion! I typically do straight across, s9 I love the idea of a diagonal. ❤️
Your demonstrations/organization/multiple use/card designs/technique videos are so well presented. You have an absolute pleasant voice - you get right to the purpose of the video - you are well organized in your presentation - and - you are greatly talented. One of you videos happened to show up in the side listings of the RU-vid format and I clicked on it. YAY! Another wonderful card maker. I now ------ have many of your videos in my files so I can refer to them over and over until I am confident enough to do the techniques and ideas on my own. Thank you for all the time, effort, organizing, and example showing before you even present.
Great ideas - depending on what project I’m doing with my embossing folders I will use a brayer to apply ink to the folder. That way the lines from the ink pad direct to embossing folder are eliminated and you have more pressure control.
Oh, a fun new challenge! I love my water brush and never thought to use it on an embossed card front. I'll have to try that. Those folders you created, for your embossing folders. are so cool!
Thank you! I linked the folders as a card aroungpd the 9 minute mark, I think. I make them with my envelope punch board. I’m glad I sparked an idea for you to use your waterbrush. 😃
You have done it again ! Great ideas . I love 4,5,6 techniques. I as well refer many times to your past videos and have found new delight in card making thanks hugs
I had to watch the video to see which technique you were referring to. I have that example posted in the Embossing album on Facebook in my group, Villages Card and Crafts. You are welcome to check it out over there. 😃
Ty so much for sharing the tutorial. Very interesting! I particularly enjoyed the last one with gluing the flowers on the cardstock before embossing. I'm going to try some of these techniques. Ty. ❤
Bonjour 😀 ! Merci pour toutes ces techniques d’embossage avec les classeurs. 💕💖 Vos explications sont bien compréhensibles en regardant la vidéo ! 👍👌 Bonne continuation ! 😊
Thanks! I’m going to have fun trying embossing never thought about trying that. For the last one with pressed flowers I have collaged a page with different papers and then used an embossing folder which was fun.
Thank you! That’s a good question, but not really feasible since the folder pushes the image into the card stock. You can, however, emboss a panel and adhere it to your base, so the base remains smooth. I hope that helps.
I love watching your videos because you are so easy to understand and share so many creative ideas. I have the spellbinders platinum 6 machine and I find that certain embossing folders are quite thick. With the thin folders I do ok, building the sandwich as directed. I stopped trying to use the thicker folders because I’m afraid I’m going to break my machine using the sandwich method. Do you have any hints as to how to use the thicker folders?
Than’ you!! 🩷. Just a reminder that the instructions for the platinum 6 is basically for Spellbinders 3D folders. With that, I start with the very least when trying another brands folder…base plate, folder. Adapter. If too tight, eliminate the adapter and try cardstock. I have a piece of cork that is great for when I need a little something.
My intention was to get them all done. That’s in the works. We had a family member pass this morning, so it was a struggle today. I’m sorry to have let you down. 😪
Hello! Well I have a set for my distress oxides and a separate set for dye inks since the properties are different. I wouldn’t want to contaminate my dyes with say the pigment from my oxides. I’m glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
Hi! Newbie here… how do I know when to use distressed oxide vs distressed ink? Thanks for your cheerful attitude. You give me confidence to try! Greetings from St. Louis MO 😊
Great question! Distress are dye inks. They are transparent in nature and dry rather quickly. These could be a great option for a fast project. Oxides are a hybrid ink…mostly pigment and some dye. These have a chalky, opaque quality and dry slower. I tend to prefer Oxides since I like a more opaque finish. Both inks are fantastic. If you have one color in both types, try them on the same piece of card to see how they behave. That might give you a better idea of what you are looking for in an ink. I highly suggest swatching. You can download free swatch charts for the entire range at rangerink.com. Thanks so much for subbing! Happy crafting!

HI! Sorry it's been a while since I was able to respond...work. I'm sure you know how that goes lol. Here's the folder LISA HORTON BUDDING BLOOM EMBOSSING FOLDER • shrsl.com/4e6w3 (SBC)
🥺 Does the first technique of INKING (either) SIDE of the embossing folder take "some practice"? I tried it, using a Dahlia-looking embossing folder (image highlighted in orange outside), but neither version ("em" OR "de") gave me A N Y areas remaining uncolored! I tried, also, to use a diffuser shim to just get a section, but in each case the whole surface was colored. Is my E-Folder too shallow? Is "my hand" (applying ink) too heavy? Wendy, you make this look SOOO simple!! Any words of advice would be MOST welcome!!
I have some questions for you...what type of ink are you using and how juicy are the ink pads. I would say that a light hand is best as well as just using the edge of the ink pad to swipe the surface. You don't want ink to squish into the depressions. This works best with a 3D embossing folder. If you are using a standard folder and using a heavy hand that could be the issue. I would try to master the first technique before moving on to the diffuser. It isn't that this is difficult, it just requires a tender touch. You can do this! Try again. Change the folder/ink/ or even paper. Speaking of that, what type of card are you using?
@@villagecardandcrafts WOWSER!! You are QUICK! Firstly, THANK YOU!! For your expertise, for your patience, and for being SO generous with your time!! Secondly, NOTHING about this project is optimal: the inks I'm using are Memento Dew-Drops, and I wouldn't call them juicy, but 2 out of 3 I first tried worked as I would have expected; the 3rd I changed out for another color, as it WAS too dry; I thought I had the "light hand" part down, but it didn't seem to matter with this E-Folder ... ink went into the "dents" as well as on the high spots. When I was trying for color in the recesses, I tried to carefully remove the ink from the high points, but that only succeeded in smearing together the patches of the 3 colors I was going for ( !!) So I just went for it. The result wasn't ugly; just not what I was trying for! As for the paper ... Since I usually use my computer to generate my sentiments, I use a very crisp-feeling, v-e-r-y smooth-feeling, HP 32 # / 120 gsm (100 Brightness) "printer paper?" This paper has a fabulous "hand", AND makes a substantial envelope, as well. I'd give up and try a different folder, or a different technique, or both, but I was SO looking forward to using this one, with a Valentine's sentiment I'd come up with. 🤦 🤷
Don't get discouraged! I just pulled out the same embossing folder which is a Parkland (aka JOANN Fabric brand) Standard 2D folder. It was cheap! I also pulled out some of my Dew Drops. They worked perfectly. I really believe it's your choice of paper. 32# and being a smooth copy paper is great for a printer, but not so great with certain techniques. The smoother the card, the more likely the ink will slide into places you don't want. The embossing folder could also be slipping around. I would highly suggest trying another type of card stock...something a bit heavier. I actually can use my Canon printer with Recollections (Michaels) 65 # white card stock. Remember that not all card stock is created equally. Having a card with some tooth to it will work better for many techniques, while a smooth card will work for others. When I first started card making, I didn't believe that card stock wasn't all the same paper. I was using Joann's --- that was definitely my issue. I switched up card stock and voila I was getting better results. Let me know if you decide to try something else.
@@villagecardandcrafts I absolutely will try again! ... ... ... Since I received your last message I've been on a scavenger hunt, and ... VOILA!! I found in my stash a pack of RECOLLECTIONS 65# !!! NOW I'm tuckered! I'll have to get back to embossing tomorrow. Thanks BUNCHES, Wendy! I'll let you know how it turns out ...
@@villagecardandcrafts Well, I "got back to it" yesterday, but got a NASTY SURPRISE !!! The E-Folder I've been working with (Parkland "Dahlia"? "Mum"? whatever ...) WAS DESIGNED for A4 CARDS !!! I kept trying to run the thing through on the Recollections 65#, but kept coming up with the pattern UN-centered in the specified section!! I kept thinking the card stock had slipped out of the folder, because the pattern would "run off the page"!! I finally cut 4 pieces of printer paper THE size of the embossing folder, pieced them all together, and found that they made a full-sheet-size of 8 ¼" x 11 3/4" !!! ‼ I've not thrown in the towel yet, but this is going to take some jockeying, and the use of diffusers to keep the image from looking like I mis-aligned the folder. Might even have to make a panel of the image, applied to an under-layer ... we'll see. hee-hee-hee ... Wish me Luck!!
If your card is warping badly, you may be using a lighter weight card for a more 3 D folder. Try a heavier card stock but remember to spritz the back. I do not get much warping at all. I hope this helps. ❤️
You’re welcome 😊. Here’s the video on the mini folders: EASY Mini File Folders With Your PUNCH BOARD! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FtqWWhSrpIM.html Thank you so much!
