make a backup of your iphone and do a factory reset and then restore that backup that will probably fix it and the reason why is because after a while random stuff will clutter up your phone and make it a bit slower personally i prefer to do a local encrypted backup through itunes or finder on macos because thats a more complete backup and its completely local
Your videos are just so good. Pace is great, editing is perfect. I’ve become addicted to setting up shortcuts and automations just like these. Another great one is to turn off always on display when connected to car Bluetooth system.
Good video as always. I’ve had already done pretty much all of these (except the talking ones) as I’m paranoid about battery health! But for the one for unplug from charger, I get the phone to check battery level and to only disable low power, low brightness etc. if the battery is above 50%.
Steven. Enjoy you! Enjoy your column! Lots of good stuff! Maybe one of the problems you have with your battery is all the shortcuts you have running? I find that when I use many of the Apple Apps such as movies, music, etc. the power use is exemplary! Can go for 8-10 hours easily! When I use Apps that focus on colors, brightness, moving, etc (games, for example) more battery is used. Have you ever compared battery usage with the Apps being used? Maybe some apps just use more power than others, or maybe some app manufacturers trade battery usage for other things that enhance their software? Just a thought.
Thank you! I've run automations for a number of years and haven't had adverse battery experiences. For me, when I film my iPhone for prolonged periods and the screen stays on, that's what gets my battery.
I have one more for the OLED display iphones and people, who use light mode or automatically switch between light and dark. You can use an automation that under a certain amount of battery, it will turn dark mode on. I just cannot figure out, how / if at all you can switch to auto light/dark mode again after charging.
Hi Stephan loving your videos and the shortcuts ! I was wondering is it possible to play a music of my choice instead of speak text when it reaches 80% when charging.
It's unpleasant, and yes I notice that. I think the feeling comes from the refresh rate lowering, and the processor clocking down in speed to save battery.
The watch is always connected (the iPhone should be near to stay connected and not dead) so I dont think thats possible but you can make an automation where when you leave your house the watch goes into silent mode then press the little blue arrow on the "Turn silent mode off/on" to toggle instead.
Hi Stephen, Can you pls brief me that I want to make shortcut which speak the text saying battery is fully charged pls unplug. It should be repeated until I unplug from charger. Once I unplug it should stop speaking.
Shortcut Request: Given you have a Vision Pro, can you setup a shortcut that will activate when you put vision pro on and sets your iPhone to unlock using your apple watch. When you take your vision pro off, disable the apple watch unlock for your phone. I want to easily be able to use my iPhone while using vision pro but then when I leave the house or am not using Vision pro, I want face ID to be the only way to unlock my iPhone. Thanks!
Hey these were fantastic. With number 8, is it possible to play a specific sound? Maybe a text or ring tone when plugged into power? I tried finding this but it doesn’t seem like it will let me choose the sound.. Thanks so much I love these tips
You can! The "Play Sound" action lets you play any audio file. So I would upload it to iCloud Drive somewhere, use the File action to retrieve it, and then add the play sound command to use the custom audio.
@@beardfm hey thanks for the response! I got stuck on being able to choose my sound, I will have to do some digging and look at your other tutorials and see if you messed with that one before!
thank you for some great ideas. I do have a question, I set up an automation to set Display on Apple Watch on when I raise my wrist, my only problem is that it won't work unless my iPhone 15 Max is unlocked. Will these run when the iPhone is not awake? Thanks!
Thank you for the video, useful and informative as usual. Wonder id there's a way to create a shortcut to lock *and switch off* the screen? There's Lock Screen action alright but when run it does not switch the screen off and may occasionally even pop up a notification.
You're welcome! Unfortunately there's not a settings to "never turn on the screen" that can be adjusted via Shortcuts. BUT you could create a Focus Mode that disables all notifications, and turns off the always-on display if you have that, and trigger that to run when plugged in to power, and turn off that focus mode when disconnected. This way the screen will never turn on!
Unfortunately there's no action for that, which would be nice. But you can put your charger on a HomeKit smart plug, and create an automation that when the phone charges to 100% it turns off the smart plug!
can action button do like change shortcut back to back with two hold? like i want to change brightness to 50% and 70% with two hold on action button without confirmation or select the menu
Hello, I created an automation on my iPhone so that when it reaches 20% it says "Battery low!", if I don't put it on charge at 20 and it drops below 20, the command runs even on charge when it reaches 20 and say "Low battery!" how could I make it stop saying the text if it is on charging even if it reaches 20 during charging?
So for your automation, before the speak text action, add a “Get Battery Status” than if statement. That can return whether the battery is currently charging. Then you can say, if charging, do nothing, otherwise, speak text!
@@beardfm can you please do a tutorial in that way? I am new on iOS and i can’t set the things you mentioned up! I hope you will agree to do a tutorial, i think will be helpfull! I am really don’t know how the shortcuts works! Thank you!
im struggling to see how useful these are when most the functionality can just be accomplished from control center. If you were really worried about battery u wouldnt have any of the stuff u toggle on to begin with
I find the automations particularly useful, this way I don't have to watch my battery to know when Low Power mode should go on, nor do I have to even trigger a Shortcut. Just happens automatically!
Is that UI specific for the iPhone 15s ? I have a 13 and my shortcuts app looks nothing like what you’re showing here and I don’t have those options either
@@beardfmi have location based automation..which turn wifi on and off including silent mode. The automations sometime work well and sometime they do not. Has it happened with you as well?
@@beardfm Spotify and WhatsApp background activity , but it’s nothing that significant, yesterday I went to bed with 46% of charge and in the morning it was dead
Do automations in themselves cause battery drain? I don’t mean to rain on your parade in any way, I would like to use some of those, I’m just uncertain how to work/if they will cause battery drain by themselves.
All the automations are from Apple's first-party app, Shortcuts. So it's not using any more power to monitor the system than if you didn't have the automations. I've had automations for years now and don't see adverse effects.
