10 Signs of Happy Betta fish 

I love how curious bettas are. Like.. when I rearrange some plants and hiding places in my tank, all the fish are like “OMG! This is post apocalypse!” Everything is wrong! We are going to be sad all day:(“ and my betta is like “let me check that out.. ooooo! a new plant!”😄

My betta fish is a male named Splashy. He lives in a 40 litre (10.5 gallon tank) all to himself. He is always watching me and my family. If I literally get close to the tank to say hello he will come straight to the exact place my face is and just floats there. As soon as it's time for food he is up at the waters surface and will feed out of your hand. He also enjoys to be petted gently. He sleeps under leaves on his rock bridge, in a plant, betta floater log or on one of his leaf hammocks. He also sometimes shows off by jumping slightly out of the water like a shark on the attack haha. 🦈

My betta is a happy and healthy betta, because she is every one of the signs of a happy and healthy betta fish. Active, no loss of appetite, curious, loving, funny, aware of surroundings, almost never goes into the hiding places I give her (she goes behind one of the hiding places I give her when night approaches (9 PM-5 AM) , but she never does that in the day) her name is Lemon and she is quite the curious and aware fish!

I am so glad that I watch this. My fish had bubbles all over the top of his tank, and I worried that it was somehow contaminated. Although, I couldn’t figure out why. Apparently he’s happy. He definitely engages with me at feeding time. His tank is on my office desk that I sit out all day so he’s definitely used to me. That might be why he’s so interactive. This video is very helpful. I have one male dumbo ear betta in a 6 gallon and he’s like my little puppy buddy . Always aware and interactive. He will flare at me just for 1 second time to time when he hasn’t seen me all day. He loves to dance and play, blow bubbles, and he wiggles so much at me especially when I pick up his food container ❤

My betta lives in a 4 gallon tank on my desk. There is a piece of artificial wood in it with a few (way to many) live plants on and around it to create a nice, dark hiding spot for when she feels like using it, but every time I see her, she's constantly swimming around in the open to be seen or exploring the mini jungle of red and green. She's a dark purple half moon with some almost dark orchid colored scales, but I had gotten her originally for her pure black color when she was still in that cup at the Petco. Had Athena for 2 years now and she is just absolutely gorgeous, colors and personality. Literally staring at me right now as I type this, lol.

My male betta is so chill with his pleco and snail tankmates. I love the way they coexist so peacefully :)

If you're reading this and wondering if you're keeping you beta proper here's the gist: You need a 5-10 gallon tank, a heater (MUST HAVE HEATER), grab some cheap aquatic plants (real ones, this is so important, helps keep water clean), and you should be good.

Rescued my male betta from a cup at a chain supermarket. Named him Mr. Betta because he is deffinatly the king of the 40 gallon breeder tank he shares with a few platys that I spawn. Though he is very laid back and has never shown any aggression toward any of my other fish and snails. He has some permanent fin damage from the store, but he has no problem swimming around and getting into many hijinks with the plants and breeder box that the platy fry go into. Such wonderful fish. I would recommend everyone have a betta in their tanks just for the sheer amount of activity and fun they have. Just make sure the tank mates are peaceful and don’t fin nip.

I needed this. Some youtube channels show no appreciation for anything other than garbage content where they do experiments like having sororities or other potential sad situations. I'm sorry I've just been so depressed about it. I have primarily bettas and they have all been my pals.

My white and red betta, Lightforce, as well as my dark blue betta, Darkforce, really love living with me and their bubble nests are MASSIVE! I am so happy I can keep them very happy and healthy

My purple and red delta is called Jin. He plays with the panda corrys and even lets the shrimp jump on him. He's pretty young and super tolerant. He's in a 15 gallon well planted tank and seems really happy.

This was very helpful! My betta is new and lives in a 10 gallon heavily planted tank with cherry shrimp and since he is new, it's difficult to gauge his mental stimulation and normal behaviour. My old bettas were much more inquisitive, but this one seems to stay in the top and middle of the tank. Doesnt check out the bottom, but that may be because of how many plants there are at the bottom. He never hides or go into small spaces so that might be a personality trait

I just set up a 54 liter tank and it's fully planted with the background full of wood and hidey spots and to top it of a lot of floating plants with long roots (might have to trim it later on). It's currently cycling for the next month but I can't believe how good it looks. I'm getting a Samurai Betta fish once the water levels are right (probably gonna call the fish "Halo") and I'll add 3 - 4 shrimps in there (names unknown yet😂). It's my first tank ever so I'm really excited.

All these Betta’s loving there owners and mine wants to square up 😂. His name is killer and you only get to look at him for a period of time before it’s throwing hands mode. Gotta love killer man. He had attitudes at Petco and I said that’s the one and now he thinks he’s grown enough to square up on the hand that feeds him and takes care of his spoiled butt 😂❤

My betta lived in a symbiotic bowl with pothos plant growing on top (roots in water) for 6+ years. Made bubble nests despite no female. About 2 yers in, he jumped out and lay on carpet for long enough to dry out. Tossed him back in thinking he was lokely dead. Sank. Several mins later he was swimming. Had to cut off a bit of shriveled fin, but otherwise fine. Renamed him Miracle. He never jumped out again and lived another 4 years in that bowl with no electric filter or heater.

My fish is very happy like I haven’t ever seen the bigger bubble nest to ever exist he stays near the top of the tank and only goes in his hide sometimes at night he loves getting food. He is very food made motivated. He has a 5 gallon tank and tries to attack the bag whenever I have to clean his tank. I think he’s happy.

I walked into a aquarium store and saw my little baby trapped in a small container where he hardly had any space to turn around. I asked the aquarium store owner why and he said they don't require a lot of space and don't care. I was heartbroken to see him in there. When I took him home and put him in a Timmy Turner fish bowl, he was slow at first but then he dipped and dived all over the bowl! He was so happy!!! I love my Fifi!!

Nice video :) I’ve herd that bubble nests do not indicate happiness and are just a sign of sexual maturity. The rest of the tips are very helpful.

I’ve had my Samurai Dragon scale plakat for about a year and he’s such a curious little one. He has been getting less active as he unfortunately is going blind but he loves following me when I get near the tank so that’s probably good

I have a roommate for my betta fish, my betta fish is called Neptune and he’s a sweet boy, he’s shy but he’s active sometimes. When I first introduced fredrick(bristlenose pleco) and Neptune, I did it nice and slow but Neptune was so excited 😭😭 he chased him around(I know this wasn’t aggressive because he wasn’t flaring). They became chill friends, but then when I added pipes, I added the bigger one first that was for Neptune, he was so happy and was kinda teasing Fredrick, but then when I added the smaller one in their tank for Fredrick, he just glared at me-

I have 3 beta fishes named Tajo,Laney, and Ophelia and I can tell 2 of my female bettas are happy happy while I feel like Tajo looks sad at first but actually he is happy too they are so cute I love and care my fishes so much This video helps me tell if my dishes are okay ❤️

Bettas are my favorite 🥰 I've owned several over the years. My newest one is a big, beautiful veiltail named Montgomery, or Monty. He's in a 5.5 gallon with some live plants whose names escape me. He's so active and curious, I love him already

1:53: Is that a 24k Gold dumbo ear plakat? Damn, that is so gorgeous!!! I'm pretty sure my bettas are healthy and happy. They are always eager to eat, they always flare when I try to flare them, they do build bubble nest once in a while (two of mine make bubble nests daily, haha) and they swim tirelessly all day long. Just have to stick with regular grooming and care and you're betta will be fine, fine, fine.

I need to get this out so why not say it here lol My fish is really happy, at least I hope he is. He has a 6 gal tank (dont bully me I’m getting him a bigger 11 gallon one soon), he has about 40 billion plants and a few houses, I clean his tank every 3 weeks and water changes are 2 times a week, he swims around all the time and when I go to sleep he sleeps in the plants closest to me, every day without fail, he’s there, when im gone for awhile and come back he immediately swims as close to me as he can lol. I’m also convinced he knows his name, when im having trouble finding him and I say “Nike come here” most of the time he works his way over to me. Also he’s weirdly indestructible, I went camping with a few friends and my dad texted me that the filter malfunctioned and spilled over half the tank of water out and that a few plants died, I came back asap and got a new filter and new plants, Nike seemed unphased and was just happy to see me. I went away for 2 weeks recently but made sure someone was feeding him and cleaning the tank, well.. the person who was cleaning the tank dropped the temporary tank (1.5 for only about 10 minutes when water gets changed) and he fell out, I came back terrified the stress had killed him, nope. He’s fine. My sister has unfortunately and accidentally killed 3 bettas in Nikes life span so far, yes I’ve helped her set tanks up and we did water changes together for awhile before she got the hang of it, I don’t really think it was her fault, the fish were just sick and we didn’t know how to help them at the time, I know how to now but I guess that doesn’t really help the others.. but Nike is probably my best friend right now (🥲)

One of my bettas recently passed from dropsy after a few months. I’m not sure what could have been the underlying cause of it though. He was very friendly and never flared at anything, not even his reflection or the other fish in his tank. His water was clean and his tank mates were healthy, and he also showed no symptoms until his fins began to stick out. He liked to follow peoples fingers along the tank and was curious when we did water changes. He was so playful, but then died after a few months. I suspect it may be because we got him from petsmart as an ill betta. He had a hunched back to the point he swam vertically and was lethargic. He improved drastically after a few weeks so I don’t know what could have killed him.

I’m currently getting my Fluval flex 34 litre tank prepared for a betta fish. I’m growing a mix of live plants on the bog wood and in two small pots on a sand substrate. I’m fertilising the plants with liquid carbon to get them well established. Soon going to add some media and sponges from my established community tank. Then I’ll add a betta fish. I’d like to add a small number of corys to clean the bottom of the tank of uneaten food etc. Not decided yet. I wondered if snails would destroy my plants. Will my betta be better off alone? My community tank is a calm happy place and I don’t want to create problems in my new one. I’ve set it up as I’d love a betta and am happy to create a happy place for him. Once my little tank is ready for him I’ll go ahead and get one.

on the 11th marked 4 months of me having my betta fish and that same day he got stuck underneath his filter and it was sucking him in, i immediately turned off the filter and he was still stuck so the only way i could get him out was to pull my betta fish out ☹️ his poor tail was all torn up and was absolutely traumatized, he wouldn’t eat at all and you can just tell he was very ill. he float to the bottom, he would start spinning upside down like crazy, hard breathing, he looked very foggy and started losing his color and i have no nearest pet store in this ghost town i live in or transportation. at this point i had to pray he would make it until my aquarium salt arrived, it was supposed to arrive on the 15th and was returned back to the sender because it was “damaged”. at this point i felt like giving up but i knew in my heart he is a fighter, he had a 1.5 gallon and my brand new tank is a 3.5 tank and he’s never had a heater and they finally arrived and it made him feel so much better knowing he has so much more space now! this is my first fish and i am new to this, i would cry because i just didn’t want to lose him. today is day 6 and i just got the salt, and it seems like he’s doing a lot better! he’s eating more and swimming more, he’s not floating on the bottom anymore. i wanted to give him a salt treatment bath but he is very skittish right now and it’s understandable bc of what had happened to him. so i put a teaspoon of aquarium salt and his color is coming back! if i had the salt the moment he got sick he would’ve had a fast recovery but for 6 days of not having any medicine to help him but change his tank, he is a CHAMP! and also, i didn’t have any treatment for him and petsmart told me to use tea tree oil, DO NOT USE IT.i’m not sure if i either put too much but i put two little drops in and mixed it well and he was swimming like CRAZY i thought he was dead. please give me any advice

I just got a betta and the man told me shrimp are good tank mates so I got 3. One was very tiny and within 5 mins my betta killed it😬 After 3 days there are still 2 shrimp and he doesn’t seem to go after them as much. Being new to this and just setting up a new filtered tank I’m worried my Betta might be under stress. Thanks for the info🙂

I just bought my first every tank and my first ever fish betta! I’m super nervous and hope I can be a great owner. I bought a starter tank as they called it in petco and it’s a 2 gallon tank. Is that too small? I really don’t want to mess this up or make him bored! Also I have one plant and a rainbow toy he can swim under! Please any guidance or tips would help tremendously!!

My betta tends to sit in one spot right by the top of the water in between the glass and the intake tube. I just figured that his favorite spot lol. I sometimes see him swim around but I am gone most of the day because of school so I'm not entirely sure what he does majority of the time. I think he gets bored of his food sometimes as well. Some days he eats lot of food and others he doesn't seem to have an appetite. His color is very vibrant, he makes bubble nests often, swims regularly, doesn't hide lots, has never bothered his tank mates (current nerite snail and had shrimp in the past) and flares his fins often. I'm not sure if hes bored or depressed? Maybe he needs some kind of stimulation since there isn't much towards the top of the tank (I have live plants and a rock structure to hide in at the bottom). I'm not sure...can anyone help me out??? My tank has a heater as well so it stays around 79 degrees Fahrenheit.

question, is there specific food (like bits or bloodworms or something) that is best for betta fish?

Once read that bettas eat snails so I made sure the tank had ramshorn, Malaysian trunpets, and one other tiny prolific snail. New betta ignores the snails and have over populated. Any suggestions getting rid of them? I've read that pea puffer will clear them out in a week

What about if they swimming upside down? I just put an air bubbler in there because he was hanging up top of the tank. I can’t tell if he’s happy or not.

dude i was scared because first month he was like WOSH WOSH WOSH all time and today he rested many times, but he reacts to me and food, with more watching he swims around and then rest a few minutes or less and continue, seems likes he just had a bad sleep last night and its recovering

Mine gets very excited when seeing us but she likes to stay right at the front bottom swimming from one side to another kinda fast, is this a sign that she is happy? Also we turn on and off the lights to keep a different place for her..not sure if the lights bother or if they like it. When the light is on I think she can see herself in the mirror reflection? she goes crazy with that lol and its just the glass of the aquarium

You keep them alone as you should. Stop showing pictures where multiple bettas are kept in one tank as it encourages people to think that it’s okey to do that

I think my Betta is not a fan of the hiding ornament I put in with him. He’s often swimming around unless he’s asleep, but it’s been 2 days and I haven’t seen him go inside it. Maybe once, but I’m not sure, I was far away and he may have just been swimming away from it. If he doesn’t like it, I’d rather take it out and maybe get a different one? idk. what is your opinion?

You didn’t cover glass surfing! Which is a huge and confusing one. Tank surfing is usually an indicator or stress, either from PH, light intensity causing fish reflections on the glass, or a bunch of other things and can be fatal as well. If your betta is glass surfing, check the PH, add some plants and dim the lights in your tank to be just lower than the lights in the room.

I had a betta fish for almost nine years. Miss the little guy. I never had a heater or a filter. He lived in a hand blown glass fermenting crock. These are quit large. I’m thinking of getting another. I need my baking buddy. Obviously he was in the kitchen.

I will admit that I don't have much plants butbefore you say anything I have reasons because before I brought them they were in small, extremely dark, over planted (they couldn't even swim in that amount of plants) andovercrowded. So when I put them in natural lot planted tank they were stressed after some thinking and attempting to get them to be happy I came with solution of lessplanted and colourfull tank that isn't too much planted but have still hiding places and they became happy and gained colours (I technically brought mister betta pack cuz they were completely brown but turns out one is red, second black /gray, third is blue /silver/ cyan, fourth is darkblue/red/black and fifth is broken and changing colours from dark blue to purple) but they love to swim in the head decor I brought them and when they're friend swims by they swim out and rub against each other also like to chase each other without hurting each other just calmly touch their friends head and their friend start chasing them but never fight they are just playing but they also like to sleep near each other and push food towards their snail friends (bladders are one of few snails that aren't friends) but they don't hurt each other and never are too far from others but love to see me we often wach YT and TT together and they like to watch me play games they are curious little guys, but are very brightly coloured and like when I put my hand in tank to rest on it and eat on from my hand noone else's hand work they start flaring it's not my hand feeding and are very active cuties (sorry for long speech I love to talk about my fishes and other pets)

I bought my own betta

Today I shifted my betta fish in a new tank and much bigger tank comparatively. Before he was always happy liked to explore and come near the surface at the time of feeding but today since the time I shifted him(been few hours only) he is giving signs of being quite unhappy like he tries hit the glass of the tank or hides . He is exploring the tank but is the other signs okay. I am worried.

My Betta was in a 10 gallon tank but he would never move from it's one spot and was refusing to eat so after about a week or two I decide to by a a 2 to 3 gallon just in case he was sick he wouldn't affect the tank as soon I moved him into a smaller tank within a day he started swimming around a lot playing and he started eating I found my Betta for some reason prefer smaller tanks I would of never put him in a smaller tank unless I had to since my Betta is happier in a smaller tank their is nothing I can do about it as I can't force my Betta to like bigger tanks as a Betta keeper I rather for my Betta to be happy with it's home even if I don't care for it's home I know I'm most likely get hate by other betta keepers but they need to realize it not what is Betta keepers like but should be what makes your Betta fish happy if your Betta fish hates it's tank and is unhappy in it then you should work around your own self-righteous attitude and think about what the fish likes not what you like I rather let my Betta be happy with whatever tank it chooses then forcing it to like what ever tank a lot of these judgemental self-righteous Betta fish keepers think.

my betta made a lot of bubble nest when he was alone, and always interacted and looked at me. when i put him in a tank with other catfish, he wasnt happy at all. he chased them. so i separated him and put him back in the old tank. hes alone again. i think he likes to be alone.

I’m really not sure what my Betta is.. I got him 2 days ago and he just seems off. He mostly stays by the tank heater or behind this plant I have and when he does swim it’s not for very long. However, this one day he seemed really happy and he was swimming around a lot and going in his rocks. So I am very confused. If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it :) Edit: I forgot to say that he always eats right away (After he notices the food).
