The only reason I call it a bass guitar is because because I play in a jazz band and I told my drummer to rent a bass… it was an upright bass and I had to learn it 5 days before the gig.

@@larsheuker It is not a triplet! A triplet is three notes of the same length played in a duration where two notes would usually played. Gallop is not a triplet rhythm, the notes of different duration: an 8th followed by two 16ths or vice versa.
Paul played bass because nobody else wanted to, Dee Dee was really more of a rapper than a bassist (if you know, you know), Krist nearly killed himself with his own bass once, so I don't really see him as somebody to learn from as far as bass goes.

Yes, you added them on top, but had the solid foundation to layer them on. I do that a lot in our 3-piece band, first because there's lots of space; second, it helps fill in the excess space. And third, it's just one hell of a lot of fun that way!!!
All of these except the last three are things I either currently do or probably will start doing in the near future. For the record, the only guitar I own is a bass, but I _am_ saving up for a four-string tremolo for it. Also for the record, the only two amps I currently have access to are my Mustang Micro practice amp and my sister’s amp which she got for her Stratocaster.
People need to remember Metal started with a guitar player on the bass. Geezer was a guitar player, who moved to the bass. And its because of his unconventional style on the bass that Black Sabbath was so different back in the day. Art is about breaking the rules when it fits.
Reminds me of Sammy Hagar's solo album recorded when he was in Van Halen (sometimes called "Sammy Hagar", and sometimes "Sorry I forgot to say goodbye"). It was produced by Eddie, and Eddie also played bass guitar on it, .... and it sounds like "lead bass"! 😅😃😆😀🤣😃😆
I got my buddy who always played guitar to play bass in a band I joined and he’s now one of the dopest bass players I’ve ever seen just because he plays so outside of the box and does a lot of chords and stuff
An actual good tell that someone pointed out to me a while ago is that guitarists who also play bass will often use their third finger to fret two-fret gaps as they're more used to doing that on guitar, whilst predominant bass players will often use their pinky instead.
The only way I can spot an imposter on bass is the angle of their fretting hand. Bass players hold it parallel to the fretboard while guitarist usually hold it in a 30ish degree angle to the fretboard.
One of my favorite tells (that you dont have because you are a very skilled player) is the use of just 3 fingers on left hand, keeping the pinkie tucked away
I was originally a rhythm guitarist and vocalist, and I still play rhythm guitar, but now I'm more into bass, but I'm a pretty big fellow, so yes, I play my 6-string bass like a guitar.
I hope you're actually playing the bass role along with that. Groove first, 'nothing else matters,' but once that's there, you can it add a lot. If not, you aren't "playing bass."

the biggest one, which sadly loads of metal bassists do, is to treat it only as a melodic instrument. the bass is half way between percussion and melody, that's why it leads the GROOVE
