1. Not tracking your business 2. Not running on a system 3. Not having a predictable schedule 4. You're too cheap 5. Not having protocols for everything 6. No deadlines 7. Rarely hitting goals 8. 100% agree! Every time I look through the book selections in the Business section of most bookstores, 98% of it self-help feel good crap. I want MATH! Give me business math! Give me systems! I want strategy to be able to actually get the data and figure out my break even analysis as accurately as I can without just "guessing" on a profit goal. How am I going to actually calculate my marginal cost vs marginal revenue using real world techniques?

One of your best videos yet man. I was guilty of a lot of these on my first business. On my second business, it ultimately failed with me still letting a few of these bad habits linger. On my third venture now and coming at it from an entirely different angle. Not repeating my mistakes and moving to set myself up for success. I don’t know everything Pat that’s why I like to watch your channel and hear your feedback. But people don’t know that it takes a lot of documenting on things you implement in business even with people that you work with. Like a plan of action. You document so you can track what works and what doesn’t. Then you can start to cross out what you tried and didn’t work. Or you can reimplement what does work. That also can help to create a system. Like you said lots of data and you can also know when something is normal or Un normal to your business. Also you have to constantly be creative and try knew things to grab attention. That is constant. But anything you do has to make sense and add up with your numbers and why your focus is on a certain product or topic. All comes back to making sense and adding up to your numbers. Great video and thank you. Made lots of notes.

Great episode, but stuck on one thing - can someone further explain "systems?" - Is it to do with delegation i.e. one manager of one department, one for another e.t.c. and then it comes to a manager for all of these essential a sort of business hierarchy? please explain... And keep up the work Pat - half an hour every night for me helps so much...

Michael Cermak he means have a plan for everything. If a customer calls and wants a refund what will you do? The answer is not listen to their problem and decide on the phone. A real answer is you did all the math and decided if they want a refund for less than $100 you give it to them no problem everytime and anything over goes into a new check list to see if they qualify. Where can you cut back and what is costing you time and money. A plan for everything. It's all the same. Track everything and see where to make small changes. When something new comes up you look into it and have a new plan for what to do if it happened again. Little tiny changes all add up to a major change at the end of the day.

Mr.Pat! I used to think and say many things and believe, I was many things to only know from a youtube video how miserably wrong i was and to be told it is wrong with facts. Nothing but the truth that some of the many people that have said and I will say it again. Its not just a video,its not really what you really doing and what would be the real motives and all that with these videos. For me personally its how its reaching and you mentoring virtually to me which is priceless and a gift to be able to do that without physical touch. Yes content over theories ! There are far too many people who just give motivational speeches but there is no actual substance to the video. I recently watched a video by a 21 and a 22 year old who opened a company called hi smile at age 19. One of the owners nik mirkovic has a public Facebook page where he posts about marketing and growing your business. They would be a great topic to talk about in one of you videos , seeing as they are young entrepreneurs who have really used social media to their advantage.

Many here are small business owners. Some maybe asked on eBay/Amazon. Yes sure there are systems you can create informing what is worth selling when and how many to sell. At what price is worth selling at. Your not a maker of price like in many markets you are a taker of price. In Amazon eBay they dictate terms you give up your right to run much of your business. I hear people saying how all metrics are going in the wrong direction. Too cheap declining sales, increased risk. People trying hard to manage an orderly decline. One thing I notice is people hanging on when they should jack it in. Is it. Not a good thing to plan your exit from the outset always ensure you have an exit strategy. All these motivational talks encouraging people to take risk and not give up but so many failures with big negative consequences. Many suffer from being too reluctant to get out and do something entirely different. Would be helpful if there were more or even some when and how talks on good or best exit strategies.

1 year old construction company that is focusing in on the Federal side of work, this is a partnership- 1 civil engineer and a quality control manager who wears many hats with a degree in finance. We have a CPA and a company for bonding and insurance. We have a new office, and web page, and statement of capabilities, and logo on our polo shirts and work shirts.

good day. Hi Patrick! I started my business 2 years ago and now I have a team of 17 people. I understand creating of system and tracking and measuring everything. But when I saw this video, you stressed so much on tracking everything and creating systems that I drew the entire map of my business again and drilled down as to what else I can track so that we can scale the business and improve the way we provide service to our clients. In this process of thinking, I created a Project Tracking Excel that is going to really be very very helpful to manage my business better and help me automate more things in business. I was born muti millionaire my family does not give a penny until im 50 years old it to show you life works. I started bussiness at 17 running handyman business and at 19 i invested all my money in real estate so my college money and time went into my real estate business.
