Hi Angie. Cheers to Friday nights with my RU-vid girlfriend. This was a great video. I’m always particularly interested in what you have to say about skincare. You are also a walking talking billboard for great skin around here, as many people ask me what I’ve been doing to make my skin look so great and I tell them all about you. I’ve been sleeping on my wedge on my back now for 3 and a half years and use almost all yr skincare products. Anyone reading my comment who hasn’t tried Angies skincare routine, I’m the same age as Angie and was a sun worshipper inQld Australia which has the highest skin cancer rate in the world. Try laying 3 hrs each side using a mixture of baby oil and brown vinegar. I did this for years and had the deepest tan, looked a lot older than I was. I have had so many skin cancers cut out, burnt and frozen off that my dr lets me take my own stitches out with a special little thingy he gives me. But since using Angies skincare routine, I never leave the house without putting 50+on, use all my skincare and retin a, which I’ve been doing for about 4 years now, and I’m blown away by the results and positive comments I receive. So Angie, as always, thanks for top advice, I believe Angie has the best advice I’ve found on RU-vid. Sending you sunshine from Oz with 50+ xx🌞🌺🏖

I'm so happy to hear you're a sunscreen convert!! But I had no idea you've had so many skin cancers removed... I worry about that too since I was also a sun worshipper. Thank you so much for sharing your skincare journey & I'm psyched it works so well for you!! xo ~a.

Tracey, I am so moved by your story...especially the part that your Doctor knows you so well, and is confident in your many experiences, to allow you to REMOVE the stitches. How my heart hurts for you. But THRILLED you are on top of the fight and not permitting C to stop you. I trust your story will be encouraging for all, and for all to recognize the importance in knowing ABCDE's of skin cancer and what to look for on change or progression of melanoma. Here's a friendly REMINDER : A: Asymmetry B: Border C: Color D: Diameter E: Evolution (change) ~ continued health and wellness to Angie's OZ friend. 💖

-Nellie -m hello fellow Queenslander. So happy to see yours and Tracey Higgins comments from my side off the world. I agree it is frustrating to see that a lot of the products that are mentioned are not available here. I know we can order from overseas but they become quite expensive. Do you purchase anything this is available here. Even Chemist Wharehouse has run out of some Cerave products. Just about to buy more sunscreen, could you let me know what you use? Have a fabulous weekend 😎

Only one issue with this list..For those of us with curly hair, a silk/satin pillowcase is an absolute must to help with frizz! I do think it helps with my skin as well. Alot of us are side sleepers and will never change. Cotton sucks the moisture right out of your skin. Silk/satin does not as much. Otherwise I agree with everything else!
@LibbyKirkland
@LibbyKirkland 3 года назад
I've been a side sleeper my whole life and I started to notice creases in my forehead and cheek, especially on the side I always slept on. The wedge does take a bit of getting used to, but now I love it, I settle into sleep right away and no more creasing! (plus it helps with flair ups of acid reflux!)

I was going to say the same thing. I haven’t never heard of using a silk pillow case for skin or waking up with perfect hair. The reason us curly girls use it is because it is far less damaging to our hair. Cotton pillow cases cause friction that we don’t need.

The silk pillowcase is a must for me. It's amazing for preventing frizz, tangles and breakage. It also isn't as porous and absorbent as cotton, so more moisture stays in your skin and hair.

Silk pillow case for hair: it’s supposed to help avoid breakage, I’ve never heard that it did anything for styling, that doesn’t make sense. I went through a period of high breakage and my stylist suggested I switch to a silk pillowcase because it’s gentler on hair during the night, and it’s been a gradual process but he was right.

Yep, even Dr. Dray, our dermatologist influencer, loves her. P.S. you still absorb Vitamin D with sunscreen! If you live in a cooler, grayer part of the world like I do, in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, taking a Vitamin D supplement, or incorporating more into your diet is essential! I even use warm UV lightbulbs to "glow" up my apartment. Vitamin D is tantamount for hormone synthesis, among many other things, my fellow post-menopausal ladies! Can’t live without my silk pillowcase. Not for wrinkles or hair, but as a side sleeper it doesn’t dry out my face the way cotton does. I used to wake up with such dry skin and my nightly face products were basically sucked out into the pillow case. Now they aren’t and I don’t have to rehydrate my skin every morning anymore. Plus it’s the feeling of pure luxury. It also helps since I AM a “hot sleeper”. At only $20 per pillowcase on Amazon it’s totally worth it! 💕

I have started using an eye cream recently for the following reasons: - It is more lightweight than my moisturizer (I like thick hydrating/greasy moisturizers); - I use it right after toner or serum but before my retinol to prevent irritation around my eyes - it turned out that I am not so careful with the retinol transferring towards my eye area so I started getting redness and irritation there. It might be not necessary product indeed but I do not think that my regular moisturizer is very suitable around my eyes and I want protection for the delicate skin from retinol. This works great for me so far...

Angie, as usual you hit a home run! So glad you addressed so many of these skincare products that we all wondered about. Since I started watching your videos several years ago, I have added many of your suggestions to my skincare routine and deleted many that were not necessarily good for me. THE BIGGEST THING THAT YOU TAUGHT ME WAS SLEEPING ON MY BACK CAN BE LEARNED! As a life-long side sleeper, my head between the pillows and rolling around all night, I thought it was not possible to ever sleep on my back. Well, I'm here to tell you it can be done with minimal effort and a little bit of perseverance. Since I've started this routine, I wake up with zero bags under my eyes and my face looks so much fresher without the dents and wrinkles I used to get. THANK YOU, GIRLFRIEND! When you have naturally curly hair, silk pillowcases are everything. Also, anyone who claims silk will diminish wrinkles is...well...wrong. But silk is not as absorbent as cotton, so theoretically, if you are a side sleeper, your skincare will stay in place better overnight.

The comments reflect how individual needs/results may vary. I've had dry skin my entire life, my undereyes, while not terribly wrinkled, saggy, or discolored, are forever dehydrated. I layer moisturizer over my entire face. I also use a dedicated eye cream and, when wearing makeup, a moisturizing eye primer in the inner corner and undereyes before concealer. That's what works for me. All to say, take in lots of information, figure out what works best for you, then do you. I think that underpins Angie's entire channel, and it's why I love her content!

100% agree. Hyaluronic acid is a gimmick product because the particles are too big to be absorbed by the skin. Your skin feels moister on initial application but then it starts to actually draw moisture out ultimately leaving your skin feeling drier.

What a dermatologist explained to me was this: HA creams pull moisture from your face to provide a temporary plumping effect. Eventually, it evaporates, causing dryness. Her suggestion was to layer another moisturizer on top of the HA product, or put the HA product on a damp face.
@mave143

Apparently it matters greatly on the type of climate you live in. Hyaluronic acid actually pulls moisture from the air into your skin. It's like a magnet for moisture in air so if you live in a dry climate it will then pull all that dryness into your skin defeating its originally intended purpose.

I love my rosehip oil!! It is a little on the pricey side.. I order it off of line . I've been using it for over a year now and it is so amazing. And I use moisturizers on my face and neck and the back of my hands now. I have been doing my neck and chest and the back of my hands for about 6/8 months. And I am starting to see a difference in my skin. I am 41 years of age I wash my face twice once in the morning and once at night and then I put my creams and moisturizers and oils on my face and it seems to be doing the trick. I have a few Fine Lines around my eyes. I know that we're not going to completely stop aging or are skin aging LOL. But I can tell a difference and I get a lot of compliments on my skin. People do not think that I am 41 years old🤭 so that's a blessing for me. And it brings my self-esteem up. If you just try to stay out of the Sun and keep some kind of sunscreen on your skin and then moisturizer skin you're going to see tremendous results on your skin. Don't get me wrong I like getting in the sun I like having that sun-kissed tan to me. But I'm blessed I have Indian on my side of the family my daddy is Indian so I quite naturally have a light tan to me anyways. But now that I'm getting older I'm trying to take better care of my skin so now I try to get things with at least with SPF 30 or even do 15. But believe it or not some of the stuff is in sunscreen also helps with your skin to. But I love watching your videos you are a very beautiful woman. Hi Angie I'm with you. No extra creams. The one exception is I got an eye cream in one of m monthly proscription boxes. Upon reading the ingredients I noticed in contained ingredients targeting dark circles, like licorice root. Well I don't have dark circles, but had a stubborn spot on my temple close to my eye. I use proscription Retin A, but not close to my eyes. So I decided I have the eye cream. I'll use it on the spot and it began to fade. It is now almost gone. I feel the same about the silk pillowcase. I got one as a gift, but I have a Temperpedic adjustable bed and by morning the pillow was on the floor. I didn't want to waste it so I cut it and dyed it to make a decorative pillows for my guest room chair. The rest of the pieces I cut into little squares and made eye glass wipes and one silk sleep eye mask. I can't use my Retin A on my neck so my Dermatologist told me to take an empty jar add 3 Tbs Cereve and a half tsp Retin A mix and use that on my neck, chest and back of hands. I also can only use mineral Sunscreen. First I bought the Australian Gold and it was very drying on my already dry skin, so I added my hemp seed and rosehip oil to it so I could finish it up. My one oil is my Hemp Hemp seed + rosehip seed oil. I use it mornings after my other serums and Vitamin C. It is not thick and sinks right in and plays well with my Retin A if I ever get a flacky patch. If I find cheap make-up wipes I buy them to keep in my purse. I hate if my hands get sticky & use them as wipes. Or wipe finger prints off my makeup containers. Have a fabulous Autumn I have a pot on the stove with cloves, cinnamon sticks, pumpkin pie spice simmering and a Pumpkin Latte I'm sipping, on this first crisp morning.🎃🍂🍁🌻🎃

Hello Angie, Love your advice and am following most of your skincare routine and seeing very nice results! I do, however, use a silk pillowcase. It does actually work for me. Just like anything else, using a silk pillowcase takes time. I actually prefer a satin, because they are Cruelty-free and less expensive. After one night, no I also didn’t notice the difference. But after about 2 months, I could absolutely 100% tell a difference in both my hair and my skin. I highly recommend the best selling ones on Amazon, a two pack is about $10 and I have 3 sets. Skincare is incredibly important to me, I have a background on chemistry so I enjoy the science of it, but more importantly I’ve had skin cancer and know the dangers of not being vigilant. If you’re looking for a great pillow too, I just bought a cheap two pack from tjmaxx for my base pillow, then ordered The Coop medium density from amazon as well. I’m only 34, but I am disabled and have had spine surgery and I’m having another next month. They are supportive, never lose their fluff, and are perfect for back or side sleeping.

@HelenDemetriou
@HelenDemetriou 3 года назад
Face creams and eye creams may have the same ingredients but it's the % of each ingredient which makes it different. For e.g. you have oily facial skin but the skin under your eyes may be a lot dryer. The concentration/% of glycerine in your moisturiser may not treat the dryness under your eyes and using a moisturiser with more glycerine to help with the eye problem may be problematic for the rest of your face. This is why it's good to have separate creams for your face and under your eyes. Creams are not made the same and use heavier butters/oils for dry and delicate areas such as under your eyes. The same goes for the neck; it's very rare that your neck would be as oily as your face and you wouldn't want to apply the same % of ingredients on your face that is needed for a neck with dryer skin. We know these areas are a lot different because of when we use acids or retinoids. Great video, watch them all 💚💚💚

The reason I bought my silk pillow case was to help preserve moisture in my skin and help with irritation when my skin went berserk at the beginning of menopause. I find my skincare doesn't get absorbed as much by the pillowcase and my scalp is less dry and irritated. As Angie says, if you sleep with your face squashed into a pillow nothing is going to help that. I try to sleep on my back, but as I also have back issues pain can cause me to switch positions during sleep and end up on my side. Wedges don't help with this. And nothing will preserve a hair style if you are a tosser or grind your head into a pillow. The weight of your head alone will flatten hair. Silk does reduce friction slightly for hair so it reduces some breakage, but my advice is to check everything else you do with your hair ( processing, styling, products, implements, as well as your health) before relying on a pillowcase to treat hair damage or loss.

Many years after I stopped being a sun worshiper I developed a tiny basal cell carcinoma on my face so I see her every 6 months to make sure everything is good. It's one of the reasons I don't use HGH. I know this sounds crazy, but plz bear with me, I had chronic back and neck pain for 30 yrs (car accident). I heard many phyto toxins aggravate swelling and joint pain, so I decided to go avo-vore for2 days to see if my joints wd feel any better. Had no idea it wd erase my back/neck pain completely in just one day!! Wasn't hard to do at all. Now I'm using a sort of elimination diet to find which foods were causing the inflammation. So far I've been fine with dairy, green beans, mushrooms, pumpkin and smallish amounts of berrie, and, of course,avocados...that's why it's called avo-vore. U may like to check out some videos by Dr Berry, Stephanie Keto Person, or Carnivore Yogi, if you're interested.

I just have to comment on the “silk” pillowcase. REAL silk won’t slide! I have ordered many from Amazon and some, even though they claim to be silk, are actually SATIN! Angie, I know you are a back sleeper but I’m trying a specially molded memory foam pillow which is made for back and side sleepers. I am a side sleeper and at 60 it is showing on my face. I also splurged for the silk case that was a cool $65 extra ....yikes. I’m not sure that it does anything and the pillow, I assume will work IF one sleeps on it correctly. I wake up during the night sleeping on the center which is intended to cradle the back of the head for back sleeping so I’m not sure that this very expensive pillow will do anything to help the wrinkles caused by side sleeping (in case anyone reading this is considering buying one.) Also, I’m trying a breast pillow that straps on like a bra with the pillow part going between the breasts to prevent and possibly alleviate the dreaded chest wrinkles. It works pretty well -I’ll say that it definitely helps. I found this item for $10 on Amazon so worth the small investment. I’m just mentioning all this in case you would want to do a video on these things (excuse me if you’ve done one on these items already). Hi Angie, happy Friday! Great video, as always. I don’t use any of the things on your list except the silk pillowcase, and here’s why I do that: (1) I just can’t sleep on my back (I have a lot of issues that cause pain if I do so for more than a few minutes, and I snore, which makes my husband wake me up!); (2) I am in my 8th or so year of hot flashes, eps. at night, and I live in Florida (!!!), so yes, I need that coolness; (3) my hair has very open cuticles and needs the extra smoothness as I’m transitioning to my natural wavy hair (I think the silk is most important for wavy & curly hair with high porosity/open cuticles, so if your hair is smooth and straight with tightly closed cuticles, you won’t see a difference - also, it doesn’t change overnight - it often takes until you’ve shed the existing hairs and new ones have grown out); (4) I like that silk is less absorbent than cotton, so my skincare is staying on my face! Anyway, I always enjoy your content. Have a great weekend!

I love your channel and your scientific, well researched and honest reviews. You have changed several things in my life and I am very grateful for that. About the silk pillow case, I have been using it for some time and I personally do see a difference in my hair texture. When I sleep on my all cotton pillows, my hair is looking rougher and I get a lot more frizz. I live in a very humid area and have fine hair, so the amount of frizz reduction makes the silk pillow case worth the money for me.

I really think a large majority on how we age is in our genes. Skincare definitely helps and I love it, but genes and taking care of yourself (not smoking, too much sun etc.) is the biggest thing.

Agreed....my mother had excellent skin (thanks mom) and her philosophy was lots of oil and water...drinking both and using both topically as a way to hydrate. Really nothing fancy. Without going crazy on either, she ate healthy oils like olive, coconut, almond, etc. in cooking, applying lighter oils to her skin and drinking water more than other fluids like alcohol, milk, teas, etc. It worked for her and it appears to be working for me. Of course genetics plays a big part as well - her ancestors were all Norwegian.

@@HollyL56 - I agree. I think much of what we experience with our skin ( really, with our whole body) has to do with our genetic make-up. Some are luckier. Some, not so much.

I use an eye cream/product that has caffeine as I get major puffiness under my eyes. You can’t find other skincare products that contain caffeine, nor would you really need it in other areas of your skin. For those with sensitive skin around the eyes some also contain a retinol formulation that is specifically for they eye area (although I am just able to use regular retinol). Otherwise I would agree with you. I use a caffeine containing product with my PM cleanse and just my regular moisturizer any other time.

I can't understand why no one has mentioned using reusable makeup cloths! They take off all makeup including waterproof mascara without needing any cleanser. I have found it will also gently exfoliate! Less money and less in the landfill!

Since switching to your skincare routine my skin has never looked better! I switched gradually, adding products over time so the expense wouldn’t be so great all at once, and also to give my skin time to adjust. I’m so glad I found your channel because it has made such a difference in my 54 year old face. Love your videos!

@sheilabergstedt5650
@sheilabergstedt5650 3 года назад
@@user-zt6mb7nf3i The last time I watched the full routine she was using Colleen Rothschild Micro-mineral Soothing Toner. She doesn’t apply it the traditional way though, not with a cotton swab. She uses it more like a lotion applying it with just her hands. I use this one as well and I absolutely love it! My 20 year old daughter tried mine and she loved it so much she now uses it too. Angie also uses a green tea one sometimes but I personally like the Colleen Rothschild better 😊. I’ll see if I can find that video.

So happy as much of what you've mentioned, I've done all these years. I'm 71 and always get compliments on my skin. I still have an oily skin and as a youngster had breakouts. Today I'm grateful for the oiliness. I have never used neck cream or eye cream as neck cream makes my neck break out and eye cream makes my eyes puffy. I do use an eye gel from time to time. I hate those face wipes and have never used them. They're also terrible for the environment. I use a milky cleanser first to remove makeup and then use a facial wash to washaway residue. I don't use astringent either.

It's friday and that means the treat of seeing Angie; I looked forward to it every week ! LOVE all your videos. I have learned so MUCH from you up and down the spectrum and continue to do so. I'm so happy I have expanded my makeup/ skin care routine. Good to know I didn't fall into any of the the "don'ts", so close to the silk pillowcase - thank goodness I heard the voice of reason to clarify that ! Also, instead of wedge I use 2 pillows and sleep on my back. whoop! whoop! to Angie

I L O V E my Bioderma micellar water (and recently found giant bottles at Costco for a steal). I use it to remove eye makeup and break down sunscreen, then I wash with a cleansing balm and sometimes follow that with a hydrating cleanser but sometimes just the micellar and cleansing balm are enough. I remove all traces of the cleansing balm with a warm washcloth.

I have a good question, lately people have been stating that Niacinamide cannot be used along with Vitamin C. I use CeraVe PM for my morning routine, which is when I use my Vitamin C serum. CeraVe PM has niacinamide in it. So what do you use in the morning for a moisturizer and your vit C.

It's based on old, outdated studies. Vitamin C works fine with niacinamide. Check out Dr. Alexis Stephens here on RU-vid.

I know some say Vitamin C and niacinimide are fine together, including Angie. I think it depends on the percentage in each protect used. Also most things I’ve read says there’s only a possible reaction with ascorbic acid as the type of C. I’m sure it’s different depending on your type of skin. I think I probably have mild rosacea. I for sure get red cheeks with ascorbic acid and a higher percentage niacinimide product, so I don’t mix them. YMMV.

Great video! I will be switching from my Tatcha cleansing oil and rice powder, and trying the Clinique and Neutrogena. I have been using Tatcha for years and loved it, but the oil thing makes sense. One thing I won't give up is my Blissy silk pillow. I know I roll all night, so I don't expect it to help wrinkles, but darn if it didn't help my hair! I can get up in the morning and my hair is no longer smashed every which way. I do have shorter hair, so that is helpful. Thanks for all the great tips!

Love all of this great advice especially not needing "eye cream" when we can use our facial serums and moisturizers under the eye as well. One thing I wish I could do is sleep on my back. I just can't do it. I don't breathe as well on my back. I've tried different pillows and I have the head of my bed elevated as well (per doctor's orders). Sleeping on my back would be best for this medical issue as well. So it would be very good if I could sleep on my back. I've even tried Breathe Rite nasal strips to see if that would help me sleep on my back. Nope! I wish I could. If I want to sleep I have to be on my side. I do use satin/silk pillow cases though.

Regarding eye creams, I like to use a separate eye product for 2 reasons. I like to use caffeine around my eyes to depuff that area specifically. Also, as an avid retinol user, I like to use more gentle retinol eye products that are specially formulated for the eye area. As an example, I tried using the 1% drunk elephant retinol around my eye area and my eye area freaked out; got red and flaked. Now I stick to retinol products made for the eye area.
