Geralt: *looks at Regis* Regis: *looks at Orianna* Orianna: *looks at the Unseen Elder* Geralt: "Why the *FUCK* are you here?" Unseen Elder: "What? I like wine. Now, stop wasting my time." Duchess: *looks at Geralt, confused*
"Ten details the Duchessa missed in Blood and Wine: 1) Oriana is a vampire 2) Detlaff is the beast 3) Regis is a vampire 4) Her sister is plotting to kill her ..."
6) Geralt knew the Beast's identity (after the fourth old knight was killed), along with Regis & Orianna 7) Her sister is the mastermind behind the Beast's killings and the Cintrian's thefts (literally ignored it all and demanded Dettlaff's head) 8) That amidst a threat against her people, her sister could have, and was willing to, prevent the vampires' attack on Beauclair
For me Regis was the character best translated from book to game, he feels the same, sounds the same (at least as how I imagined), he speaks the same way and in both the games and books he tends to give overlycomplicated answers to simple questions, he is just as eloquent too. CDPR did a great job with him.
I wish that some of the characters that are in the books werent killed off because they'd be great in game companions. Sadly the ones i like werent vampires
@@Witcherino I would love to see the female bow expert, she got pregnant as I remember, was that Milva? Don't remember as I read the books when the Witcher 1 came out.
Re-reading Baptism of Fire or Regis's first appearance and I noticed a cool detail that translates to the game. After Geralt was easily beaten by Vilgefortz, he was taken to Brokilon and healed up but he still feels a lot of pain especially in his knee. When he and his company encounter Regis for the first time and they spend time at his cottage, Regis notices and discusses Geralts injuries and detects that the healing properties given to him healed the major problems but created a few more elsewhere within his leg. Geralt asks Regis if there is any remedy for it to which Regis replies "Unfortunately, nothing. You'll continue to predict rainy weather unerringly for a long time to come". Could this be why Geralt says "smells like rain" just before it actually rains within the game?
@@mrbearbot2913 He shakes hand with Dandelion and Vesemir but I can't remember when and where they hugged. But When Geralt first found Ciri, They hugged you're right. But I meant" Males *by man because you know Geralt loves hugging Sorceress :D
In this game, where is, unfortunately, no man to date, hugging Regis means true love. And the dialogue after visiting the Elder gives a hint in my eyes. After Regis asked, why Geralt put him in danger, he said: "I did it for you. You are in trouble. Trouble Dettlaff brought on you." and Regis answered "Geralt... I don't know what to say...Thank you.". This is so sweet. Further, Regis mentioned at the End by picking mandrake (picking mandrake in the moonshine alone is a hint itself) that everything is beautiful in the moonshine when lit properly. This is a pretty straight comment for Regis, normally very reserved on personal "vampiric" matters and feelings (confessed in the toyshop after the investigation). I think the writer hat hidden some hints for a Geralt/Regis-romance or at least left it open for them to develop feelings.
Regis is a Vampire Scholar, a Vampire Noble, a Vampire Alchemist, a Vampire Surgeon, a Vampire Brewmixer... if he also dealt with Machines & Inventions he could be the Vampire equivalent of Da Vinci😎👍👍👍
there should be a scene where Gaunter O'Dimm saves Geralt or does something to avoid being killed by The Unseen Elder if you still have the O'Dimem mark. it will look epic
Well, it's totally up to debate, which of them is stronger and more dangerous. I just know, they are both spooky and otherworldly mysterious. But Gaunter is more human.. a bit more.
Well, it aint bad to mention Regis (i think) said that there are other elders around the world yet they are far more umm... offensive than the elder we met. Sooooo the whole "the most dangerous being" thing is just a prank.
@@katearcher8514 "Well, it's totally up to debate, which of them is stronger and more dangerous" Gonna disagree there. O'Dimm is so far beyond the Social Anxiety Elder, or any other character we ever see in the Witcher universe, it's not even funny. A powerful vampire is still just a vampire, hardly comparable to an abstract like O'Dimm.
hey i've noticed a small detail in the way Regis says ''i did what i had to do" while beeing attack by the Bruxae. In english version he yell that part with anger, but in polish he just say it more with remorse or sadness. Its curious how the different language versions take different approach. Anyway great job keep it up mate.
The only thing in this DLC that was a missed opportunity was in the dialog of Anna, in which she asks Geralt: "IS anyone else here a VAMPIRE? " There should totally be a decision in which Geralt just shyly raises his hand and points slowly at Regis. Like really childishly for comedic relief. God i love this game.
Though when the city is under attack during Night of long fangs, while G and Regis are tracking captain's men down, 2 alps will attack but Regis doesn't move to help. Damn and ive almost died there, usually have to run
@@Fenrispro my guess is that Regis didn't want to land himself in hot water since Bruxae and Alps are more smarter and have more conscience than Fleders or Gharkains.
Regis never helps me during "Night of Long Fangs" :,D i get ripped a new one by two bruxa and an alp at the same time and he just stands there waiting for me to die for the 10th time
Having not have read the books, I didn't know who Regis was before he appeared. When he did, though.. he made such an impact that he instantly became my favorite character. By the mere fact alone that Geralt willingly hugs him, while to my knowledge no other men has gotten the same treatment, shows that he also means a lot to Geralt and is easily a brother to him. Not even his Witcher brothers gets bro-hugs. Everyone else gets handshakes.. which would be a tremendous gesture from someone like Geralt given his proclivity to stay distanced from practically everyone.
Well said, I must say that the games portray him very well, you get a good sense of who he is even without reading the books. And that really is the case for pretty much everything.
In the books, Geralt even threatens to kill him after Regis saves him from a soon to be execution, because he noticed Regis didn't cast a shadow; telling him to never see him again. Then Regis casually appears later and makes fish soup with his company and Geralt threatened him again and exhaustedly stopped caring. Then he became a very dependable, wise and loyal friend. Truly my favorite character from the books.
@@Magabes_and then Regis IS extreamly willing to lose His life protecting geralt and His Lady Love, He goes through hell, and He still IS at geralts Back and call after that
Anna: punishes a man for selling a barrel of wine without telling her also anna after finding out her sister is the reason for vampires killing hundreds of innocent people: yep that's fine
Techincally she only found out about Syanna's scheme before Detlaff made true to his threat and butchered the Beauclairians. Syanna only meant for the 4 men who abused her in her exile to die, plus her sister. Syanna actually wanted to come to Detlaff and make sure no innocents would die. However, Annarietta (perhaps understandablly) wouldnt let her own sister die and chose to hide her in the land of thousand fable. Anna is the one who was responsible for the deaths of the innocents.
@@JonasR001 idc if you want only 4 men to die she could've just picked some of the bandits that were working for her to kill them a lot more easier solutions if you think about it but nah instead she made love with a dangerous immortal vampire cheated him and made him go berzerk .. he didn't ask for any of this she said it herself only her knows what dettlaff is capable of doing so why do all of that if you know what's the outcome? the funny thing is all of this was happening whilst she was sitting and drinking the stolen royal wine lol .. no matter how you look at it it's true that syanna has been through some tough shit for no reason but that doesn't excuse her from all the terrible shit she did she's as bad if not worse than the common bandits lol
Everything is good in there, that's why it couldn't be called overrated (atleast for me) . The animations and physics could use some improvements though.
First night with Regis in Baptism of Fire is great: Drunken Dandelion: "We're on a secret mission, just like I told you." Regis: "And ingeniously concealed." A few minutes later: Regis: "Dandelion, you were going to tell me about the child of destiny." Drunken Dandelion: "Alright alright, let me have another swig and I'll tell you everything." After that I couldn't help but love him and Dandelion.
He generally was a certified badass in that book, along with all those scenes in which Geralt basically threatened him and Regis ignored it altogether. xD
The books had been on my TBR pile for a while but I never got around to reading them. Started immediately after finishing B&W and learing that Regis is introduced in the 5th book, because I can't get enough of him. Though at the moment, I'm still into book 4. Almost finished it, but every free moment I have I'm torn between either playing the game or reading the books. Both are equally enjoyable 😃
Ah, Commander Shepard, we meet again. Still crazy we bump into each other on completely different genres of videos years later and we both still have the same picture XD
One interesting Polish detail about Regis for You guys. I absolutely love specific creative decision about his design, which is completely unintelligible outside Polish culture. Regis's look is strongly inspired by the way poets of Polish romantic era would dress. Especially his hairstyle and sideburns are almost copied from portraits of Adam Mickiewicz. Why is this important? Because poets of that era were obsessed about folklore and loved themes related to vampires (which are of slavic folk origin). Mickiewicz (whom as I said Regis resembles) wrote a work called "Dziady" (which translates to something like "forefathers"). The book takes place after partitions of Poland and talks about the persecution of Poles under the rule of Russian tsar (based on personal experiences of author's collegues BTW). One of the most memorable scenes is when the main character, who is held as a political prisoner signs a song called "vampire song". In the song he claims he'll revenge on his enemies like a vampire - with all of the bloodsucking and so on. It was highly controversial when it first came out, lol.
Thank you for the clip of him screaming at Geralt when he leaves the toyshop prematurely Letalis, that was absolutely hilarious and I never would’ve thought to find it.
xLetalis that’s the only time he yells in the entire dlc. Compare that to the GWENT event where his younger self is screaming perversely left and right at peasants hahaha
I Love Regis! Even more now that I've just read the books. I like how he reads Geralt like an open book and quietly gives him the gift of his loyalty and friendship. Thanks for the videos, as usual 😊
The vampire language Regis, Dettlaff, and the Unseen Elder (along with the rest of the vampires which belong to the Gharasham tribe) use is based on Etruscan, a language that existed side by side with ancient Greek, whose alphabet came from Greek, and was appropriated by Latin. Etruscan was previously spoken in now known region of Italy. Fitting, considering Toussaint is inspired by both France and Italy. However, the pronunciation of his name probably has nothing to do with it, since his name is read the same way in other slavic languages (or any other language that has the 'write as you speak, and read as you write' rule, plus if we don't know how Latin was pronounced there's no way we can know how Etruscan was pronounced).
@@xLetalis You can see the language in the knight tournament. I took a screenshot before and after the name you chose is added to the list of competitors. It makes translation pretty simple. All of the signs are in this language so you can literally translate everything. I think this is true everywhere.
not only that , i just noticed that in the middle of the Note left in the Dollmakers shop, Henrietta has a 3 digit code in the middle of it. 683 to be precise.
@@CyranofromBergerac You're mistaking Etruscan language and Glagolic. The Etruscan language is "vampire language spoken during scene with Unseen Elder. Etruscan civilization vanished in first century with Roman empire. Glagolic (the symbols used in a game) is symbol system brought to slavonic regions of Europe 800 years later.
Those wooden Nilfgaardian soldiers would sell like hotcakes to collectors like myself. About Regis, I love the fact that in this game- just as in the books- he doesnt grin (showing his teeth while smiling). He has always smiled with a pursed or close lips to avoid people seeing his chompers. Im surprised the humans in this game do not look closely at him when he speaks. In the books Geralt remarked that Regis smiles with pursed lips, and when he figured out what Regis really is, Regis finally smiled like one of those ginning apps in android phones, baring his fangs and spooking the hanse.
@@aqbaplaygames3435 nah dettlaff killed thousands of innocent people because he was angry that he couldn't kill Syanna, no one can calll that anything close to moral
@@arshiaaghaei I think he regrets that he couldn't keep Syanna save, while he promised to Geralt. And he was shocked, that Geralt had to face prison. But not becoming anathema in his vampire society and calming Dettlaffs whish for revenge is something, he should be glad of. I guess Regis compassion for the deaths of humans is one thing that bothers him.
@@omnipoticus9908 Agreed killing Dettlaff is for sure the "greater good" option -- Syanna might even arguably be the "worse person," having been motivated by revenge and greed and also having killed lots of innocent people, but Dettlaff is more powerful being and may have been enraged to killed a whole city of people again in the future. But hey, it's a game and I love Regis so I let Dettlaff live :P

All these later I come back to videos about Regis. His character genuinely may be the most compelling I've ever come across in a game, his story, his portrayal and his voice actor is simply phenomenal. Each line is read so perfectly, delivered with such realness.
Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy was my favourite Charakter in the Witcher Universe the second I read about him for the very first time. When I found out that he's alive in B&W I totally freaked out ^^ This Video is awesome
They do say it fairly often (atleast in the german Version i have) XD And this "dude" Read them quite recently one month ago ^^ (Please don't hate me for being a little bit too enthusiastic about this particular vampire)
@@Trathien- Fun fact DUDE - some people like me and Jojo Ravenclaw for examlpe just know and remember the full name without opening google. What a scandal!
I prefer the scenario where we keep Dettlaff alive because eventually when geralt dies brogis will need a friend. (He can't hang out with Unseen Elder .d)
I know I'll be pretty anxious when that comes around. After B&W, tis ís Regis for me. Don't know if I'll be able to watch when the character design and voice of live-action-Regis will be totally different from game-Regis. The only actor I could think of who I might like to see cast in this role is Jason Flemyng. I think he could really portray the composed, intelligent type
Regis is Vampire Da Vinci, as another commenter put it. I mean, he's an alchemist, an inventor, a surgeon (though if my memory serves, Da Vinci didn't exactly perform autopsies _legally),_ an all around intelligent and well-put-together person.
Here's a fun one about Regis, but not anything lore but the game itself you can do with the follower mod and the console. Use the follower mod to get Regis in his form when he and Detlaf show up just before you find Syana, then use the console to spawn in 20 of the toughest enemy NPC's. Regis will obliterate them quite handily.
I have a grey long-haired cat named Regis. Best part: I named him long before playing the game (haven't read the books). I named him that because Regis is latin for king/prince. The coinsidence made me jump up screaming at the TV when I first met him in BaW though😅
What i most wonder about in this section of the game is why there cannot be a fourth ending, where instead of killing Detlaff, you weaken him to the state where we can lock him up in the cages in Tesham Mutna's underground chambers designed specifically for vampires, and let him cool off for weeks, months, years, a century maybe.
This has been one of your videos where I for once didn’t miss a single, tiny detail. If anything I’m most surprised about the fact that that some folk didn’t know about the jail ending (my personal favorite, I enjoy being able to pay back Regis for all his help in finding Ciri even if it doesn’t show up in the games, plus he's one of my favorite characters) given that the main requirement was not giving the bow to Syanna. I might be biased but she and I did not get along since the moment I met her so It was very easy to let her get killed 🤷 Great job as always on the video!
Well done :) I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway! BTW... would you believe that a ton of people also didn't realize that the reverend is not the real serial killer?
xLetalis I wouldn’t have guessed! But then again, it looks like most of us on this channel have played the Witcher games thousands of times hahaha I most remember about that mission when some time ago I found the real killer and accidentally triggered a bug by picking up one of the “concerned” citizen notes after finishing the quest, it made them keep reappearing forever as if I had killed the other guy! (It was some time ago, hopefully it's patched now)
Book spoiler ahead.... As for the parts about Regis not meeting Ciri, that’s not true. They met in the experiment room with the acolytes of Vilgefortz trying to take her away once the fighting had started. He killed them and told her that Geralt was there and looking for her. Great channel btw, nice work 😄
After reading the books, Regis is definitely one of the best character in The Witcher series. A 5 century year old Vampire who was a barber surgeon, punk and the best wingman you can ask
Dear xLetalis, Regis was the one character of the books, I really desired to see in the game (after the confirmation of Yen and Ciri, of course), but knew exactly i wouldn't because of him being dead and so. So when I started BaW for the first time, when I was chasing Detlaff this person intervened. I sat in front of the screen with a wide-open mouth, grinning inside like a ginger-bread-horse (like we say in German) and thought by myself: No, it can't be, this is not possible, by no means - yet it was Regis. Let's be clear: BaW is pure (book)-fan-service, but the biggest is the implementation of Regis into the game. And I'm loving it. CU twinmama PS: Did you know, that you can read all the posters, many notes, graffiti, and the shop-signs. The majority is written in English (just with glagolitic letters), only in BaW you'll find some written in Polish, esp. the old map of Toussaint and most things related to the bandit "hanses". And whereas in the main game all these writings fit the situation, sadly the devs ran out of time when programming BaW. So you'll find an "armorer"-sign as a name-plate in the crypt with the quarreling couple of ghosts or a poster requesting work of local peasants (from two villages in Velen) at the gate to the statue with the missing crown-jewels. Some of the writings are in mirror-script, esp. the candid graffiti inside the tavern "Alchemy" in Oxenfurt, or all the posters for the Gwent-tournament in Toussaint. The dev(s), who implemented all these writings had a lot of fun, but obviously were afraid someone might censor those profanities in the graffiti, if they found out.
I actually loved Regis from B&W before even reading the books! Then I read them and loved him even more :) Also thanks for the information about the writings!
When I found the cemetary before meeting Regis, you bet your katakan rear I looted that entire place before realizing I totally just stole from a guy I would LOVE to have as a best friend XD
Regis seems like a great guy to have a few drinks and a deep philosophical discussion with. Definitely one of the best characters in The Witcher, especially the games, which is remarkable considering the smaller proportion of the series he's in compared to other characters. Unfortunate that he and Geralt separate at the end of B&W. They seem like good friends.
xLetalis Regis seems like the kind of friend you visit once every few years, and it's like you were never apart. Maybe when Geralt needs a break from Corvo Bianco he seeks out his old pal for a snifter of mandrake and a catch-up.
I loved Regis. To be absolutely honest, I never knew that "The Witcher" was a series of books until 4 years ago? So, I met Regis due to Blood and Wine. I swear, I basically fell in love with this man, so compassionate, so intelligent, so powerful in combat; I even loved his alchemy and mandrake brewing hobbies, not to mention his freaking voice acting. It broke my heart to kill Detflaff in my first run, (Not because of Detflaff himself), just because of how sad Regis felt right after. I never wanted him to be banished from Toussant, but I feel like maybe that was the best possible outcome in the end. He survived in the games, true, but I'm afraid to ask, did he survive in the books too? I would be so damn sad if he didn't. Fuck Yen and Triss, Regis is the best (?).
I can relate to everything you said :D As for the books... I guess you could say he doesn't survive... you learn how his story in the books ended when you meet him, in the barn where you fight Dettlaff.
He kinda died...sort of. When they were fighting Vilgefortz I think, and everyone in their adventuring party also dies except Geralt, who met up with Yen and Ciri.
Well, the Games are chronologically after the books And hell yeah, Team Regis all the way!!! Triss drugs and SAs geralt, AS well AS Breaks His Trust in Other ways, Jennifer and He cant live with or without eachother which IS plain Not healthy and their Trust issues will never allow them to find happyness togeather for more then a Moment. But Regis hands down IS the Most unwavery loyal and loving WHO Chose geralt over absolutly everything!!!
btw, I had already finished the witcher 3 and blood and wine by the time I reached the book, Baptism of Fire where Regis first appears, and I still remember how happy I was when the group was staying in an old elven necropolis and they find Regis hiding under a tombstone. Just from the description I could guess that it was my good natured vampire friend that the group was meeting for the first time, and I think that is the reason why I love that book in the series so much, because we don't only get Regis, but also Zoltan and Milva are introduced and I'd be lying if I said I loved Cahir from the start, but man that battle on the bridge with Geralt instantly made him a favorite of mine.
probably leads to nothing but what the hell. there is a tomb in regis's lair. there is nothing spectacular about it but it is the only tomb underground (apart from the knight/ witcher with silver sword) and it is very close to regis's living space. I searched the name on it and not much came out. you might be the only one to shed light on it. great vid. keep it up man
I remember finding that tomb when I played through. Thought it was cool there was still a use for the Eye every now and again. Wasn't there a biography or account of the buried guy in there with him?
About the teeth, i think all higher vampires have a special third form, for Dettlaff it is that vampire monster thing and for Regis its a large bat(his gwent card is a large bat). People said all higher vampires turn into bats but this led me to believe its exclusive to Regis. That is why his teeth are like that.
About bat form of Regis, there is a gwent card about him as I remember that show him as a hairy ekimara with wings instead of hand, it wasn't that much like Dettlaf's ultimate form. I dunno ,sometimes gwent is wrong but it was the only thing I found in the game about it
True! I have that Gwent card at home. Didn't realize that Regis could also have a bat form until I looked at those cards again only a few days ago and saw his name on it :-D
@@kia_sm3853 I actually like Regis's batform more than I do Dettlaff's. Too bad we didn't get to see that one in the game. Regis reminds me a bit of Dracula's batform from the 2004 movie Van Hellsing with Richard Roxburgh playing Dracula.
In the books his bat form is literally just a 'large black bat' that he could only choose to be in during a full moon. I don't think it's anything like Dettlaff's final form, which seems to be more of a rage-induced distorted mutation. A thing that there was no coming back from, a physical manifestation of insanity.
A glass of Sangreal would not go amiss with our dear friend Regis. "I so don't feel like going anywhere... sit here awhile longer?" - Geralt of Rivia, enjoying a catch up with his Vampiric companion
I actually found a small ”detail” in Kaer Morhen. When you have to go with Lambert to the Circle of Elements and the trolls throw rocks at you. So if you shoot one troll with a crossbow, the troll will say that he’s hurt, instead of warning you to go away.
I love practically everything about his story, and the etruscan bit about the vampire language is really interesting, where i live in italy there are many words in dialect that resemble it.
I found a book in the house of Triss in Novigrad. It called "Interview with vampire" or something like this, I played in Russian language so I don't know how to translate more correctly. There was a story how Regis helped some man who was in the house on fire. He took man off the fire without any burns on his body. The man started asking Regis how he did that and Regis told him about vampires and about himself. The man said that he will never tell this secret but when he was about to die of old age he wrote this book
