IMO the andorians should be featured more prominently, also. I would like to see an andorian officer as part of the crew of a starfleet ship (no, Hemmer doesn't count, he is aenar, not andorian). The encounters of captain archers enterprise with them made clear that they are much closer to humans in terms of mentality than for example the vulcans. In theory this should mean an andorian officer should get along pretty well on a starfleet ship, but there could also be differences that could cause issues and exploring those could lead to a good understanding or the race.

Honestly? The Blue Gills should have been the baddies of Picard S3. Their Goa'uld-like hijacking of people would have allowed for the same kind of paranoia and plot-twisting as the rogue Changelings when it came to characters suddenly breaking bad. And that species had just as much of a grudge against the crew of the Enterprise for spoiling their plans for conquering the Federation as the Borg did.

Another vote for the Horta. I can’t remember the name but there is a beta canon novel with a Horta ensign. Instead of viewing a monitor when scanning a planet she “tasted” a sensor made for her and got the data that way.

Here's some aliens I'd like to see more of: The Kzinti--now that these fierce felines have been canonized by ST: Picard and Lower Decks, let's see some live action ones. The Husnock--yes, I know they were exterminated by Kevin Uxbridge in "The Survior," but there must be a way to bring them back via time travel, mirror universe, alternate timeline or whatever. The Hur'q--another extinct race of aliens which could be brought back through various plot devices.
@generalilbis

The Kzinti are off-limits to live action Star Trek, as I understand it. Their creator, Larry Niven, agreed to a deal to have them appear in Star Trek... but limited them to only animated shows and other supplemental material. So the Kzinti member of the Cerritos crew is cool... having one appear in Discovery, Starfleet Academy, Strange New Worlds, or any other live-action show means Larry Niven will come a suin'

Interesting little factoid. there was a Star Trek video game (almost certainly not canon lol) that came out back in the 90's on the NES (i think they called it Star Trek the 25th anniversary. not to be confused with the one that came out on the Game Boy) where Kirk and his crew actually return to Sigma Iotia II. As they're approaching a time rift opens and yeets them somewhere else, and the game is about them getting back to Sigma Iotia II to figure out what happened and fix it if possible. And it all revolves around the Communicator that McCoy left behind in A Piece of the Action.

The Iotians were technically explored again in Beta canon. In the Star Trek 25th Anniversary game on NES, the Enterprise goes back to Sigma Iotia, only to discover the entire race was annialated by using tech they had created out of McCoy's communicator. An anomoly sends the Enterprise into Romulan space, and you have to carefully work your way back to Sigma Iotia, time travel, then win the communicator in a game of fizzbin, to win the game.

Except, as far as I can remember, the Weyoun that dies in the battle for Cardassia, at the hands of Garak, is the last Weyoun clone, Maybe there's a mislabelled vial of Vorta goo knocking around in a cloning facility in the Gamma Quadrant, gathering dust, awaiting revival for this line, But for now, at least, he has passed from this plane of existence in all possible forms. It's Sci-Fi though, so it's possible he could turn up at some point. Rather than Vorta Juice, perhaps there's a pattern buffer of a little use tranporter that has him stored away. Like the race Bashir cured of the blight. Imagine a trek through gamma quadrant territory similar to the very narrow path of territories Voyager flew through in the Delta. We need to see what the outskirts and border powers are around dominion territory. Did they encompass the entire territory? Are we expected to think that Dominion bordered territories held by powers like the Vaudwaur? Krenim? over in the delta quadrant. So a "Fringeworld" that explores the powers in areas we did NOT see. Like behind Gorn, breen, or north of Klingon Romulan territory in the unknown delta quadrant space. According to the old map there is an unknown space that runs the length of the galaxy, south of the Gamma side of wormhole, north of Breen territory, approaching the galactic core, then south of borg territory, North of Gorn, then Romulan, and so forth. Its a large space (if the map is still accurate) for many regional powers and maybe one to two as yet unknown galactic powers. Its the last majorly untouched regions of the milky way before we have to start branching out to Triangulum or Andromeda.

There was an Iotian security officer in the Corp of Engineers novels and he was easily the best part of any novel he was in. As was a Binar pair, the novels really explored a lot of species that the shows kind of forgot about.

Tamarians. they had that one episode in NextGen and I think I heard someone say they were in lower decks once although that show is crap it doesn't belong in the franchise so I never saw it but I would love to see more of them. There was one in some books I read which was a great addition to Beta Cannon

What about some of the TOS brief but hinted characters like the organians or the metrons or theKrell (a private little war) don't just look to later episodes for inspiration look at some of the OG characters who can inspire new stories.

More changelings and TRIBBLES! Maybe…more assimilated races as Borg? A Klingon, Jem’Hadar, or Hirogen Borg would be badass.

Notably in Star Trek Online. The Voth are a minor foe turning reluctant ally and the Vaadwaur are a major foe.

The First Federation, the Nanite civilisation on Kavis Alpha IV from TNG S03E01 “Evolution”, the Terratins on Verdanis from TAS S01E11 “The Terratin Incident”. Did either or both of the latter two become members of the Federation?

"You know what I'd LOVE to see more of? The Voth" Has any Trek fan said that? I didn't think they made that much of an impact in Trek at all for a mention, let alone the #1 spot...?

I wonder, would the era that Discovery is set in potentially be suitable for the Mintakans to achieve faster-than-light travel? I think it's implied they're a fairly rapidly developing people.

It would make sense if the Breen Home world was truly temperate if Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel de Homem-Christo left Earth to settle on that world and create a new species see if anyone figured out who the those names refer to
