10 States With The Lowest IQ 

I have spent years in several different states. No matter which state you live in there is no shortage of stupidity.

I heard a bunch of Texans moved to Oklahoma and it raised the IQ of both states😂😂

My father was a sheet metal worker and his IQ was around 130. He read a lot and was largely self-educated.

A woman in a small Texas city called in to ask them why they had scheduled the total eclipse for a Monday instead of a Saturday. Not kidding.

Well laugh as we might, the good news is, no state in the US has an average below 90. I was bracing myself for some of the worst states being around the 70’s. I’m relieved to be disappointed.

I find it hard to believe Florida isn’t in the list, have you seen those creatures?

I was told by my kindergarten I had scored the highest IQ for all the kids in the state of Utah. Turns out I am just good at taking multiple choice tests.

Born and raised in the midwest. Company I worked for was expanding and I had to contact citizens by phone in Mississippi. After the "Hello" I stated my name and Company I had worked for the reply was "WHO IS YOU?" I knew it was going to be a long week.

I'm from Kentucky and kept getting more and more nervous the longer the list went on, when you got to the last one I was like "whew!"

This past year I discovered IQ isn’t linear. Some of these guys were the funniest, had the fastest wit, and much better than me at “seeing and doing”. Though I was always first to finish written tests with math/trigonometry, definitions, etc., I felt like the dumbest person there for everything else.

Conclusion: The differences between Averages of IQ in America are very subtle. All states fall around average.

Because someone is not good at standardized tests, like the IQ tests, does not necessarily mean their IQ test score reflects their true intelligence.

A lot of these jobs are changing rapidly to involve much more technical skill, especially in math, computing, systems analysis and problem solving. IQ is almost meaningless, we know there are different kinds of intelligence, including emotional intelligence which can mean a lot in customer service. But yes I live in the California desert. My emotional intelligence is extremely low, and I teach electonics and programming and building supercomputers. I have neighbors who barely know 500 words but can fix anything in any house or even build nice agricultural infrastructure - a chicken coop or even a livable shed out of junk they collect. What is intelligence?

Can we just say, "The South" and be done with it?

Not sure how accurate IQ testing really is. I'm in the 98th percentile and I've done so much stupid stuff, I could write a book. I once worked with a computer programmer who stood and stared at an air filter for almost five minutes thinking it was an indicator panel. Pretty sure your examples of people doing stupid things isn't really a reliable barometer.

To be fair, sewage treatment plant operators actually have to know a lot of chemistry. Ph levels, salinity, water hardness, etc...and making certain that the discharge water stays within certain parameters. And no, I'm not a sewage treatment plant worker! 🙂

This correlates almost entirely with the list of the poorest states with a few exceptions. Poor people don’t have access to decent education in the U.S.

My IQ is 95 and I passed my Advanced Calculus with 75%.

Excellent as usual! My problem with IQ and the suggested employment is that I know many people who graduated from a university with a BA or better who have resorted to a TRADE job (plumber, welder, etc) because the money is better and they enjoy it! I'm not correcting just stating why I don't give a whole lot of credit to the IQ scale.... that and my mother absolutely drove me nuts over how high her IQ was versus everyone else!

If the IQ tests are based in English, then it makes sense California and Texas would have lower scores on average. The exceptions draw down the average, but they aren't very accurate tests when you are dealing with lots of immigrants, especially from Mexico and central America. Also highly correlated with poverty, well, the same deal really.

People give the IQ test too much importance. They actually believe that people's intelligence is based on a number.

Well, in Canada, in order to qualify as a journeyman in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, you have to take calculus. It’s not for dummies.

I am not a welder, but welders are not stupid, you have to be certified and well trained to become a succesful welder.

Briggs, you could have just shared the stories for fun without forcing IQ into the equation. It’s rather crude, not every person with intellectual challenges, made that choice. Some people don’t aspire to betterment and that is a choice! For the innocents, they have to live with attitudes like yours. Critical thinking is important. How many times did you question yourself on making this video? The answer will point to your own IQ.

My IQ is 130.... and I have Autism..... and I can't get a job because people get offended because I don't Small Talk enough. Also other stuff like I'm not great at reading and spelling and so on. Fun fact because I looked it up myself and I believe this is true a IQ test more or less is a common sense test mixed with engineering. If you have a good amount of Common Sense and if you're good at engineering kind of like myself your IQ would ranked pretty high. If you're a normal person where you're going to refinance your house so you can go on a vacation or use the money for a down payment for a new car yeah your IQ would likely be kind a lot... 🤷‍♂️

Low education is linked to religiousness.

Here in Texas, our schools score fairly high, but the honest teachers admit that Texas education scores are falsified, which is really sad because Texas still scores so low.

Worked 28 years as a secretary in South Carolina schooks. Over and over parents moving in from other states questioned our education. They were surprised at our higher standards, long school days and free services. Our special ed students are allowed to take SAT and other exams so it lowers our scores. Also we still have a large population of older, isolated people who were not offered a quality school Despite this they have succeeded in life and are beautiful Christians.

Thanks for the video. Very enjoyable. IQ assessment is a very controversial field; more than a few experts question the validity of this type of testing. The interesting thing about the video is the type of job matches for these supposedly lower-IQs. Jobs like HVAC technicians, plant operators and welders are very important professions. A good master welder is a valuable asset to lots of fields including manufacturing, metal fabrication and industrial repair & maintenance. A good example of this is the manufacture of nuclear submarines. The hull plates must be welded together with absolute mastery because even one small imperfection could lead to certain death for an entire crew of Navy Sailors. Anyway, it was very entertaining. By the way, perhaps you should consider a video on another assessment measure called Emotional Quotient (EQ). This is a supposed measure of a person's emotional maturity and sensitivity. Now that would be interesting to see which states have the highest and lowest EQ measures! Thanks again! 🤔🙂

My father was a sheet metal worker. He was a Forman at Lockheed. He designed the TV dinner trays for Swanson He also designed created and installed the gally kitchen in Jaque Custeaus boat the Calipso. In the 70's He made the average of 50 cents a minute. A very talented man. He was a Washingtonian.

I thought IQ tests were long since proven to be a poor indication of intelligence? The New Yorker magazine had an article on that.

How would you know the average IQ of a state? 95% of all people never do a reliable and supervised IQ-test, most of the people who do are not recorded. Additionally, there's often a reason why they got to do a supervised one in the first place, thus, the tested fraction is not a representative part of the whole population.

Remember that IQ tests are heavily social-economic based, so poor people who do not travel a lot do worse then people who have more and travel more.

Funny how California and Texas, the two states with the highest GDP made the list. I currently live in Texas, but I'm from Louisiana and I've been to all of these states except California. Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana don't surprise me. I don't know if it's coincidental or not, but all of the aforementioned states have large minority populations. Mississippi and Louisiana respectively being #1 and 2.

From a young age my folks could never tell what I might do that was very unchild like. My Grandpa came along with my Mom food shopping when I was 18 mos. He got what he needed then we were standing at the front of the store talking to a local Policeman. I joined in like I always did and scared the Policeman but I was sweet enough and cute enough for him not to label me a freak. My folks decided to enroll me in a study of children at the U of MN that measured a lot of things that also threw in an attempt to expand the MMPI and recheck the nonreading IQ test at the time. I remembered going there and it was fun until I was 4 when I was in an hour long interview with a 40 something woman in a suit an interviewer and it was the first time I was near someone who made me afraid and I knew I could not get up and leave but I remember I told my folks in the car I never wanted to do that again because I never wanted to be with that lady ever again. Very seldom do I react quickly to people throughout my life because I am aware my feelings might be wrong or the other person may be in physical or emotional pain which I also often sense. I hope I did not skew their tests for most kids. Lastly my Mom and Grandma took my 3 yr old sister and 4 year old me to see Bambi in 1955. The volume was too loud but the movie itself scared me, then angered me but I had to tell Mom that "it was a bad man who made that sad, scary movie for little kids." Didnt learn I was probaby right until 2016. IQ was high but I got MS at Age 11, was born with cold clotting disorder which creates TIAs and Lyme in 1974 and again in 1988. My MRI is a star burst and that ended my IQ but perhaps I would be off drooling somewhere if I started off normal. Now I just seem to annoy Creators (not on purpose) and trolls (on purpose) online from time to time.🤣
