The Gulf of Mexico is home to a vast array of bizarre deep ocean creatures that aren't normally seen by people, including the famous Magnapinna / Bigfin squid! Today we look at just ten of these incredible life forms, from the slender squid to the oddest bottom-dwellers.
A HUGE special thanks to NOAA for providing me with the raw footage for this extraordinary Magnapinna encounter, which has never been shown in this channel before! It's easily one of the highest quality recordings of these magnificent creatures I've ever seen.

I'd guess that "the bat" is a species of gymnosome pteropod. These are a group of molluscs sometimes referred to as "sea butterflies"--the gymnosomes mostly eat other shelled pteropods.

Another fantastic video watching made me think of all the times I drove the boat down Charlotte harbor out the pass into the gulf I was never in water deeper than 80' and always wondered what 500 miles west would be like though over that way is Mexico and down that way is Cartagena Columbia and all the water in between.

The world down there is so bizarre and strange. I kinda always wonder what strange creatures lurk there which we can't even imagine. And even more what kind of creatures lurked down there millions and billions of years in the past and never had the chance to be part of the fossil record with their fragile bodies. How much did they change... or did they even change at all? I guess we will never know

The "bat" may be a deep sea octopus or squid. I forgot the actual name of it. But it's been in other footage The unknown towards the end? Possible a siphonophore? The squid at the end looks like the "being" at the end of the movie The Abyss

I almost feel dumb for asking, but for any marine biologists out there that happen to read this comment, I have a question or two. Does anyone know about these deep sea creatures' reproductive cycles? It fascinates me, I've been watching this channel for years, and I've always been stumped. I lean more towards exotic veterinary work, yet I've never actually studied on deep sea animals like these. What's the key difference between the male vs female specimen? Do they experience sexual dimorphism at all like most land animals do?

It's not new original soundtrack, but this video uses a lot of Myuu tracks, some of which aren't frequently used or haven't been used at all before on this channel :) He's one of my favorite composers ever and viewers of RU-vid horror content have almost certainly heard his work before as it's so widely used, from MrCreepyPasta to Mr Nightmare and early Corpse Husband creepypasta narrations!

"The Bat" is quite interesting, and I don't claim to know what it is, or have any credentials to say that I should know, but I seem to recall from the dark reassesses of my mind a mollusc flying in this manner. Perhaps it is a shell-less snail or bivalve? Bivalves feed by syphoning water through a powerful suction method and this might explain the undulations? It doesn't really look very bat-like in its motions, bats have a skeletal structure under the membrane, whereas this clearly doesn't. Can you also get over your fic=xation with Magnipina Squid? Its a silly obsession with no real reason to think they are sinister, just makes you look a bit silly, really!
