The first thing I learned in my plant journey many many moons ago was that plants eventually mature! I learned this lesson with a Monstera large form that is now 30 years old and has claimed a good portion of a room we once referred to as our reading room but currently is referred to as the Monstera room! LOL
Great video. Thanks for sharing! Do you have any tips for when to chop a self heading philodendron? My birken is getting very tall, and my prince of orange looks leggy and is leaning over the pot. ❤
I love my Philodendron Prince of Orange. And, typical of me (being behind in the trends!) I've only just got myself a Philodendron birkin 😂 It took me a while to fall in love with the birkin, but I'm looking forward to watching it grow. Thank you for this wonderful video. I enjoyed it very much.
Again... I'm so glad I found your channel! You answered my questions regarding "self heading" philodendrons.. Boy am I introuble in a few yrs🥺. I live in an 800sq foot home and I have 4 on your list and that doesn't include my other "big"plants...and my other plant collections 😆
I have a Congo Rojo that sits on my large kitchen table. I’ve had it for six months and it’s already over four feet wide! The new leaves are over 12 inches long. It will soon require its own room!! Gorgeous though.😊
Thank you so much for this list. Sadly when you purchase plants many will just say philodendron without name. Serenity Collection includes Imperial Red dating back 6 years. Amor eterno. Also Imperial Green, Moonlight, Prince of Orange, Black Cardinal. Heartache when comes the time too big. Even if you only have one year together, it's worth the adventure.
Thank you for covering the different categories of philodendrons! I am not able to follow the newest trends, so I was delighted that you covered the birkin and the prince of orange!
Thank you for the amazing information. I really looked for a combined overview of types and size. I’ve already need a bigger apartment to fit my plants 😂😂
What a delightful channel! And I live in a dinky house and somehow was oblivious to the ultimate size of my philodendrons at maturity…it’s gonna be great!
I think I will sit mine outside on the porch and let it go wild this summer, then chop it and bring one cutting in for winter and pray for the best. Great video and explanations! Appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
Honestly, they can be a bit tricky. Most of them grow so tightly together in terms of their nodes that it can be really hard to get in there and successfully cut between nodes. But that’s how you do it. Once you’ve cut between a node just take that part of the plant and you cut off and either water propagate it or go direct to soil. I personally find water easier but that’s just me.💚
@@AlohaPlantLife I actually decided to put a tiny moss-pole behind it, (made out of strip of plastic sheet,- I sacrificed a placemat, cut a 2-3" strip, bent in semicircle, held with long twisty ties, stuffed with moss. The birkin's roots are attaching to it. I hydrate it every day. I am essentially "air layering" it, though the stem is not cut. Since I "tour" my plants every day, it's no big deal to hydrate daily.
Great video, but Philodendron Ring of Fire and Philodendron Narrow aka Tiger Tooth aka Jungle Boogie are actually climbers, not self-heading. Not fast climbers, but still climbers nonetheless. 😊
I have a dozen or so Philodendrons, but the Birkin was the most difficult. I had two but both failed, with white leaves & green leaves all turning brown.
Any chance you're still down to do that thermatophyllum video? Been looking for care tips and really struggling. Recently acquired one that I have no clue what it is but it's from Lowe's, so can't be that rare.
I can’t recall exactly what I said in this video about making a video about them, but I have since released this video: 21 Plants That Are NOT Philodendron Anymore and Why | Repot and Educate ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LQmt8maHDJM.html
@@AlohaPlantLife In the intro you mention not covering them because they aren't the same growth habits as the philodendrons you're covering here. Thanks for the link and watching now! Took me a while to notice and mitigate a disease among my all my philodendron types (including a xanadu), so want to give them all the best chances possible.
Those are two arborescent types that I mentioned at the start of the video have been moved from the philodendron genus to the thaumatophyllum genus. I think I’m going to do a future video just on those that are now in thaumatophyllum since the growth pattern is quite different. I love my thaumatophyllum hope I own!💚
Hi Drea. I think that I have the Moonlight (I bought it with no name on it). But I can’t seem to keep it happy, probably it’s the watering I can’t seem to get right. The leaves roll inwards, get limp, and dies. Do you have any tips? I have both Pink Princess, Birkin and (I think) Prince of Orange and I’m not struggling with those varieties.
Care should be pretty much identical to the prince of orange so definitely odd that it’s giving you trouble. Have you checked to make sure the roots are still healthy?
@@AlohaPlantLife The whole plant unfortunately came apart, when I took a closer look. The roots were completely rotted, so no wonder the poor plant couldn’t keep the leaves alive. Bummer- it was a gorgeous plant 😔
