@Barbara A.Taylor The cross over "what if" kinda comics are always fun. Robocop vs. Aliens, RoboCop vs. Terminator. I would love to see Robocop vs. Judge Dredd.
Then wcw had a slight edge from showing reruns later that night, I used 2 juz watch wwf & then wait 4 nitro reruns risking 3 hourz less of sleep 4 school but knowing everything that happened tho.... Also VCRs were the best too n case I wanted 2 sacrifice & watch 1 more than the other n da 7-10 time slot (central time zone)
To me 100 percent of the blame falls on nash and Hogan. They had a golden storyline that could have won the Monday night wars but they let their ego get in the way. Just insane to think of the shit they pulled.
Bro just ride that money train lost all respect for the biz for the amount of money they were making Hogan bitchoff nash hall should of never had the contract they had they could do what they wanted ok fire me got a guaranteed contract I get paid anyways
I am not a wrestling fan (though I am a fan of wrestling fans), and I wanted to find out what happened to WCW, and the things that kept coming up were 1) Vince Russo 2) Fingerpoke of doom 3) David Arquette. Honestly, when I found that out about Arquette, I thought (and still think)it was one of the stupidest things I had ever heard.
I didn't riot...because I was one of the 500,000-or-so people who changed the channel from Nitro to Raw because I wanted to see Mick Foley win a world title...and I never went back.
That was back when I still flipped the channel between the 2 and I never heard the infamous spoiler, I just watched Mankind win. Makes me wonder if I would have watched Nitro had I known Raw’s ending
I'm one of the few who actually liked the Fingerpoke Of Doom. I was a huge nWo fan back in the day, and seeing them reunite in a swerve was highly enjoyable to me.
@Brian Smith it's amazing, the video clearly stated that "robby" piper came in and they reenacted the WWE Screw job in Montreal, that is why things went south. i know thinking isnt a big thing for pro wrestling fans, but you can at least listen.
Although it began to suck, it's still the best era of wrestling compared to today! My father worked for WWF from 77-90 here in CT, so I was raised in it. The Monday Night Wars (with the ECW creeping up from the underground) was legendary and like any war someone had to lose. . .too bad it was us; the fans! I've tried to watch in the past few years and I just can't do it.
He also came back to wrestling last year, making a serious effort to actually try and be a real wrestler to make up for the 2000 debacle. Nearly died in a deathmatch against Nick Gage in November. Got superkicked by the Young Bucks when he appeared on Being the Elite and asked them to let him enter the Over the Budget Battle Royal at Double or Nothing. Guy sincerely loves wrestling.
1. Judy Bagwell on a forklift. 2. Anything that Jim Herd came up with ( Ding Dongs, Big Josh, Ric Flair as Spartacus, etc.) 3. Ed Ferrara as Oklahoma 4. The Renegade
Nice one...I remember loving all pro wrestling back then, and earlier....There were a whole lot of bad ideas missed on here...lol. I actually knew NWA/WCW before I had found WWF. It was sad to see WWE rejects ruin that company...at one time, they had a very different style that was, in my opinion, better for years....dating back to before the Hogan Era there. Actually got to see a lot of future WWE stars coming up in their early years through the NWA....the biggest has to be Undertaker as Mean Mark Callous....if I remember right, he teamed with Dangerous Dan Spivey back then...lol
Even though he doesn't say this line, all u hear is, 'hey Rick ya prick,' although Rick does stand in the ring, shouting, 'come on chucky. Where you at chucky,' why did he think it was real. Brain damaged.
LOL. I hated that so much! I remember thinking that manical laughing was a hint a future WWF guy heading over. We had crazy debates on the school bus ride home about who it'd be, then we all were so quiet the next morning from embarrassment after it was revealed to be Chuckie.
Otaku Evolution by all accounts he’s a really friendly guy, and his working indie shows proves he does respect the business. And he was great in Scream!
He DID beat Hogan clean, because Hogan had almost everyone in the tank for him and Bret Hart stopped the ending bell from being rung. But when they held up the title shortly afterward, it REALLY annoyed me. They just couldn't let Sting enjoy his victory.
@@SeasideDetective2 The whole thing was just comedy of errors. They should have just booked it to be a clean victory for Sting, instead of booking Hogan to pin him with a quick count by Nick Patrick. But then they managed to mess it up when Patrick didn't actually quick count, so Bret Hart coming down to restart the match and THEN have Sting win "clean" was just so confusing...because it wasn't a quick count.
I clearly remember the finger poke of Doom, and then hearing that mankind is going to be winning the belt tonight, they do all their stuff pre-taped. And I had really enjoyed Mick Foley's character, and I wanted to see where it was going. After the finger poke of Doom, which was basically the finger to the fans, I went to WWF, and I was there for a long time. I never even saw the end of WCW. I just heard that they went bankrupt
Three nails in the wcw coffin in my opinion: 1) Bischoff becoming the “leader” of the nwo in 1996. 2) sting/ hogan starcade match. 3) nwo wolfpac formation. Yep there are other bad moments but IMO these events started the ball rolling.
the stupiest thing about david arquette winning the title was DDPs reaction. why the hell was he so happy to lose the world title? it made no sense what so ever.
Kids and I use the finger poke of doom when we play around. I actually charge it like a Dragon Ball Z attack, barely touch them, and they go flying on the bed or trampoline. Only thing missing is special effects while I charge it.
AGREED!!! THAT SHIT WAS ABSOLUTELY LEGENDARY !!!! SHIT IS EPIC TO A 10 Yr OLD KID...... Man I wish I could go back to that era wrestling was amazing back then MAGICAL SHIT
The battle royale they had at Double or Nothing was...not great. Most of the guys were so green you could mistake them for cabbage. People kept moving to the sides and just watching as two people locked up. Could definitely tell who had more experience in that shitshow.
Nope. Best moment ever in WCW was when Sting won his first title vs Ric Flair at The Great American Bash in Baltimore 1990. One of the absolute highlights of my childhood and an awesome time to be an 8 year old. That match was wonderfully set up and still stands as one of Jim Ross's best calls of a match ever.
@@justinorel6592 Probably my 2nd favorite Sting moment was from Clash of the Champions in Savannah when Luger ambushed him and then Rick Rude took the US Championship from him after Sting "got back from the hospital" just before the contract was voided. Rude had MEGGGA heat then with Paul E Dangerously.
Ever. From WWWF, to WWF, to WWE, there was not a single era worth watching. Sorry fans, I am genuinely honest about this. I could see nothing worth watching coming out of New York. And no, MSG is not "iconic," it's a dump.
This list makes me realize that you could probably make a top ten of the worst things Kevin Nash has done in wrestling. As much as I was a fan of his as a kid, I have to admit he was involved in a lot of infamous moments.
Not that I like WWE these days, believe me, I don't, but things were WAY different back in the day. Far fewer options not only on TV but also that huge thing called internet. Funny thing is, WWE is making more money these days than at its peak during the golden age or the Attitude Era
The fingerpoke of doom episode is likely the most popular wcw episide ever, it comes up so many times, look at the star power though in that ring, i liked the luger heel turn, another big surprise after one surprise.
If you watched both, you know on Monday night that there was at least one hour where you had to decide which program you'd watch. One of those shows was a filler for commercial breaks.
Ryan Arko I meant more from a fans rivalry stand point. I know they had to out do each other to get viewers. What I meant was with fans why some considered themselves only WWF or WCW fans. When both had their great and bad points. Personally every Monday back then I would just flip back and forth. I loved both neither was better then the other to me.
If you wanted something truly horrific and stupid done by WCW for this list, I'd have included having Kanyon thrown off the second tier of the triple cage by Mike Awesome, falling 20 feet to the entrance ramp at the end of the main event of Slamboree 2000. It was done in the Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri, and was just shy of a year to the day that Owen Hart fell to his death from the ceiling of that same arena at WWF Over The Edge 1999, in front of some of the very same wrestling fans.
Running the finger poke of doom against Mick Foley/Mankind winning WWF title that night was so bad. WCW never got as high 5.0 rating other then when Raw was preempted.
10:21 I will never understand all the hatred over the *cattle prod* incident... I always thought it was a good way to give *Goldberg* his first loss and not to mention it's a pretty wild _heel_ tactic.
Simon should do a new list like this featuring Vince McMahon booking decisions from the last 3 years. Shane winning “Best in the World”, Shane beating Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar squashing Braun Strowman to win the title back, Sasha Banks losing all her Women’s title defences, WWE completely burying the Women’s Tag Team titles after barely a month, Calling up NXT talents only to bury them or not even use them, Kane squashing Finn Bálor on Raw, Roman Reigns megapush, Goldberg vs Undertaker, everything associated with Saudi Arabia, etc, etc. I think you would have more material for WWE from the last couple years than all of WCW.
Except the WWE is making money. Something WCW (outside of 96-98 and even that can be chalked up to funny accounting) could never do. The moment the WWE stops making money, that should start to make Stamford notice, but until then...
I really liked the DoD lol. I remember when they showed the master screaming: sullivaaaaannn! lol. He looked like a power rangers villain. And when the brought the Yeti! lol
Hogan/Warrior 2 was a 7 star classic. One of the most creative bookings they have done next to putting the title on Arquette. Putting the title on Arquette was PURE booking GENIUS of which was VERY underrated. It was a PERFECT way to tie in to Ready to Rumble featuring WCW. It was an opportunity to promote WCW.
Fun fact: the David Arquette reign happened because Tony Schiavone once said, as a joke, "you know what could promote the movie? Putting the belt on Arquette!", and Russo heard him. This, the concept of TNA Lockdown and Katie Vick all prove one thing: you never, ever tell jokes like this to a promoter/head of booking. They might take you seriously.
When the finger poke of doom happened I quit watching wcw and I was in the nosebleed section at starcade and said this is good cause I was all about Wolfpack
