This was unexpectedly an empathetic video (based on my first impression of the title). I’m organized at work and a high achiever, but disorganized in my home. Perfectionism is my lifelong enemy. Overwhelm is real. If I can’t do all of it, I never want to do it and then spend a whole day on housework. I’m working through this mental block all the time.
I had the same issue .my narcissistic father installed perfectionism in me . So 6 years ago I decluttered like kon marie for a week . Then I started quick 5 min cleans and declutters .now I can have guests over anytime. My house only needs 15 min of a quick clean if that . You will get there it’s better done messy then not at all You can treat yourself to a professional deep clean after you declutter then you will have a clean slate ….. it will happen don’t worry
*“Stay away from those people who try to disparage your ambitions. Small minds will always do that, but great minds will give you a feeling that you can become great too.” - Mark Twain*
Thanks for this video. I have always been an organized person. However, for the last 4 or 5 years, a lot - and I really mean A LOT - has changed: taking care of my 96% disabled twin sister, my aging parents, financial issues and gradually losing the confidence in close family and friends, miscarriages and most probably my divorce. My house, my performance at work and my mind are up side down, a mess. Diagnosis: burnout and major depression. But not everything is bad: my parents and my sister care for me and my dog makes me laugh a lot and feel very loved and special. With this in mind and your advice, I may be an organized person again and have things under control. Thank you and keep posting videos on organization, planning and self care. LY Carla - Portugal
Good for you to look at the positive and to be nice to yourself. Taking care of loved ones is always more important than anything else. All the best to you.
Perfectionism is a real problem. It’s been that way for me my entire life. Even as a child, I can remember I was supposed to clean up my closet, I’m sure my mom meat straighten out my clothes, put things away, etc…. I took everything out of my closet (you know that was a mess 😝) It ended up being a huge job. For some reason I thought they was what was meant by “cleaning up”. So, I did everything possible to avoid “cleaning up”. 🤦♀️
You did a great job without throwing anyone under the bus 😂. Actually I learn more from a bad example...weird I know, but someone's clean organized space looks good to me. However a messy space makes me want to do differently.
Me after a week of trying to make less mess: wow my room is cleaner My mom walking in: you call this clean? My empathic friend: oh, your room looks like a normal busy person's. See, mom? Im better than a few others and im getting better Pov, i was in college.
I feel seen! I have ALL if theses habits and am currently living in chaos. I am so glad this was part of today's email. I will be more conscious of what I do or don't do in my daily life. I get so overwhelmed sometimes and ignore the chaos and read a book instead of tackling anything. Thank you so much!
I think it's ok just to make the video and call it what you want without worrying so much about offending others. I'm not someone I would call "organized" so that is why I wanted to watch this. Just do what you do and those who want help won't use the title as an excuse to be offended. Just relax and be confident! 😊
I love this so much! I am so guilty of MANY of these! Thank you so much for this video -- I actually really needed this. 💕💕 Especially the speaking nicer to myself. Clutter blindness is REAL.
Great video! Useful insights! I definitely can relate to perfectionism. I like decluttering and organizing projects- but I’ve always told myself I don’t like routines… good thing to think about!
I recently got married and my husband and I are both neat and clean but different. He deep cleans once in a while I like to do quick cleans frequently . I like things organized and labeled he just throws things . I learned I clean my way he can do it his way . We are both right
This was so refreshing to have what has been going on in my brain for what seems my entire life put into actual words. Literally. I remember in Junior High School a boy wrote in my yearbook "to the most discombobulated girl I know.". BTW - his Mom was an English teacher. 🙄. Anyway, I guess that has subconsciously stayed in my brain. I have so many notebooks where I would start a journal, a brain dump, or a series of lists. 🤦🏼♀️ I think I have finally found a planner that will help me organize my thoughts and lists - and use your HOP system. Here I go again getting all discombobulated. Anyway - thank you for this video. I may save it and revisit it when I need a reminder that I am OK.
Laura I don’t appreciate you talking about me and alllllllll of my list….. lol. Great video. I resonated with many of these habits. Appreciate you digging into this subject.
Laura, I love your videos. I wanted to make comment to help you in future videos. I wanted to recommend to you wearing blush or a bronze on your videos or changing out to a warmer light. I think the light is reflecting off your foundation and making you look super pale. I think it might be if you have SPF foundation.
I can't get the sound to turn on, but that's not because of you. I'm the most disorganized person I know. I procrastinate, and I let things just stay where they fall until I have a free minute. Easy to figure out I have to work three times as hard to clean up
I need to borrow the magic ward for a second. 😆 I am a perfectionist & once a spot gets organized I do well at keeping it organized...it's just a drudgery getting it organized. Hence why I need the magic wand. Lol
Great video!! So helpful. It brought clarity to the problems I face in organizing which in return helps me solve them. Thank you for the great content!
Year sago I read a quote by Zig Zigler that said something like The biggest time waister is Perfectionism, it stuck with me, and I find I have to fight it daily.
The last one is me. I stick to lists on my phone and no more. Then it is always there AND I can search if I had one going. I do occasionally do a paper list for some things like write out holiday menu to post pictures in the kitchen vs my phone then I can look up instead of unlock my phone which means wash hands and too time consuming.
